The site specificity of the apicomplexans Gregarina cuneata and Gregarina sleini , in larval Tenebrio molitor was investigated. Gregarina cuneata was found to inhabit the anteriormost region of the larval midgut, while G. steini was restricted to the posterior portion of the intestine. The site specificity of the pair was conserved in single and concurrent infections. Interspecific interactions do not seem to be presently responsible for the resource partitioning by the 2 gregarine species. Key words. Gregarina, site specificity, Tenebrio molitor.  相似文献

The atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration has beenrising and is predicted to reach double the present concentrationsometime during the next century. The objective of this investigationwas to determine the long-term effects of different CO2 concentrationson carbohydrate status and partitioning in rice (Oryza sativaL cv. IR-30). Rice plants were grown season-long in outdoor,naturally sunlit, environmentally controlled growth chamberswith CO2 concentrations of 160, 250, 330, 500, 660, and 900µmolCO2 mol1 air. In leaf blades, the priority between the partitioningof carbon into storage carbohydrates or into export changedwith developmental stage and CO2 concentration. During vegetativegrowth, leaf sucrose and starch concentrations increased withincreasing CO2 concentration but tended to level off above 500µmolmol–1 CO2. Similarly, photosynthesis also increased withCO2 concentrations up to 500µmol mol–1 and thenreached a plateau at higher concentrations. The ratio of starchto sucrose concentration was positively correlated with theCO2 concentration. At maturity, increasing CO2 concentrationresulted in an increase in total non-structural carbohydrate(TNC) concentration in leaf blades, leaf sheaths and culms.Carbohydrates that were stored in vegetative plant parts beforeheading made a smaller contribution to grain dry weight at CO2concentrations below 330µmol mol–1 than for treatmentsat concentrations above ambient Increasing CO2 concentrationhad no effect on the carbohydrate concentration in the grainat maturity Key words: CO2 enrichment, starch, sucrose  相似文献

A differential equation model of vegetative growth of the soyabean plant (Glycine max (L.) Merrill cv. ‘Ransom’)was developed to account for plant growth in a phytotron systemunder variation of root temperature and nitrogen concentrationin nutrient solution. The model was tested by comparing modeloutputs with data from four different experiments. Model predictionsagreed fairly well with measured plant performance over a widerange of root temperatures and over a range of nitrogen concentrationsin nutrient solution between 0.5 and 10.0 mmol in the phytotron environment. Sensitivity analyses revealedthat the model was most sensitive to changes in parameters relatingto carbohydrate concentration in the plant and nitrogen uptakerate. Key words: Glycine max (L.) An enzyme assay was developed to measure the initial and Mg2+–CO2activated forms of Ribulose 1,5-bisphosphate Carboxylase/Oxygenase(Rubisco) in rose leaves. The assay was verified by co-extractionof the leaflets with partially purified spinach Rubisco andthrough correlation with net photosynthetic rates of individualleaflets (r2=0.7324). Changes in activities were measured asa function of depth of leaves in the canopy for two cultivarsof greenhouse hybrid tea roses. Initial Rubisco activity declinedwith increasing canopy depth for both cultivars. The activatedform of the enzyme, however, remained constant with canopy depthfor cv. Red Success; but increased with canopy depth, then declinedafter mid-canopy in the cv. Royalty. Rubisco activities werealso measured in the cv. Red Success grown in CO2 enriched environments(100 mm3 dm–3) at three humidity levels. The activitieswere not significantly affected by humidity treatment. H1 histones from rat liver and rat testis were separated by reverse-phase h.p.l.c. Within 40 min six subfractions (H1(0), H1b, H1a, H1d, H1e + H1c and H1c) and seven subfractions (H1(0), H1b, H1a, H1d, H1e + H1c, H1c and H1t) respectively were isolated by using a linear acetonitrile gradient. Each individual H1 subtype was identified either by comparing the H1 variants (contained in both tissues but in different quantities) or by SDS/PAGE and acetic acid/urea/PAGE. Moreover, all H1 variants were characterized by amino acid analyses. The amino acid compositions of rat histone subfractions H1(0), H1b and H1e were determined for the first time. It was possible to classify unambiguously the H1 subfractions obtained by h.p.l.c. by following the standardized H1 nomenclature for electrophoretic systems recommended by Lennox, Oshima & Cohen [(1982) J. Biol. Chem. 257, 5183-5189]. Incorrect assignments that have been made in various publications are discussed.  相似文献

A method has been developed to detect thermophilic species of Campylobacter in shellfish, marine and tributary waters, sediment and farm runoff by-products such as manure and silage. The method consists of a 48 h enrichment incubation and subcultured to selective agars. Presumptive colonies confirmed with a latex agglutination (antibodies) to common flagellar antigens of C. jejuni, C. coli and C. lardi. Over an 8 year period, West Coast estuaries (Washington, Oregon, and California) were sampled, resulting in analysis of a total of 512 samples. Results suggest that Campylobacter spp. are well distributed in the marine environment. Two enrichment broths were compared for the recovery of campylobacters from environmental samples. The method described in the Food and Drug Administration Bacteriological Analytical Manual (FDA/BAM) (1984), was compared to a modified method. Use of the modified method described here resulted in higher recovery rates of Campylobacter spp. Recoveries of campylobacters from sediment, shellfish, and water were 10,13, and 28% higher for the modified method, respectively.  相似文献

The reaction of the bis(triflates) 1,2-bis[2-(trifluoromethylsulfonyloxy)ethyl]benzene (1), 1,2-bis[3-(trifluoromethylsulfonyloxy)propyl]benzene (3) and 1,2-bis{2-[2-(trifluoromethylsulfonyloxy)ethyl]phenyl}ethane (6), respectively, with the carbonyl metalates [M(CO)4]2- (M=Os (a), Ru (b), Fe (c)) results in the formation of the osmaorthocyclophanes 2a, 4a, 7a and 8a, the ruthenacylophane 2b and the ferracyclophanes 2c and 7c, respectively. Carbon monoxide insertion into the Fe-Cσ bonds of the ferracycles 2c and 7c, respectively, affords the ketones 3-oxo[5]orthocyclophane (9) and 3-oxo[5.2]orthocyclophane (11). The structure of 2a was investigated by an X-ray structural analysis. 2a crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n with Z=4.  相似文献

The l-anilino-8-naphthalenesulphonic acid (ANS) fluorescent probe was used to monitor alterations in the cytoplasmic membrane of sensitive Lactobacillus plantarurm cells, caused by pediocin SJ-1, a bacteriocin produced by Pediococcus acidilactici. The addition of pediocin SJ-1 to the sensitive cells caused an increase in fluorescence intensity of ANS and a blue shift in its emission maximum from 520 to 475 nm. None of these spectral changes could be detected when pediocin SJ-1 was added to cells of a Lact. plantarum variant resistant to pediocin SJ-1. Upon the addition of pediocin SJ-1, dose-dependent energy transfer took place between tryptophanyl residues in the cytoplasmic membrane of sensitive cells and ANS. Similar ANS-fluorescence changes were observed with the bacteriocin nisin. The concentrations of pediocin SJ-1 needed to effect changes in the fluorescence spectrum of ANS were of the same magnitude as those required for a bactericidal effect and the release of u.v.-absorbing material. A hypothesis on the mode of action of pediocin SJ-1 is proposed.  相似文献
