Microplankton and primary production in the Sea of Okhotsk in summer 1994   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Phytoplankton composition, density, vertical distribution andprimary production were investigated in the Sea of Okhotsk andin the adjacent northern north Pacific in July–August1994, together with measurements of density and distributionof planktonic microheterotrophs: bacteria, nanoheterotrophsand ciliates. Different phases of phytoplankton seasonal successionwere encountered during the period of investigation in variousregions of this sea. Primary production measured at 144 stationswas found to be greatest (1.5–4 g C m-2day-1) in areasof spring-phase succession along the Sakhalin shelf and theKashevarov bank. Periodic relapses of the spring blooms of ‘heavy’diatoms during the whole growth season were recorded over thisbank. The summer phase of the phytoplankton minimum prevailedin the central and eastern parts of the sea, manifested by thedominance of nanoflagellates in terms of phytoplankton biomass.Primary production was 0.5–1 g C m-2 day-1. The earlyautumn phase of succession was typical of the Kurile straitarea and the adjacent north Pacific. Primary production therevaried from 0.7 to 2 g C m-2 day-1. The integrated phytoplanktonbiomass in the water column varied from 9–12 g m-2 inzones supporting the summer minimum assemblage to 15–20g m-2 in zones of early autumn recovery of phytoplankton growth,and up to 40–70 g m-2 in areas of remnant or relapseddiatom blooms. The numerical density of bacterioplankton wasbetween 1 x 106 and 3 x 106 cells ml-1 and its wet biomass wasbetween 100 and 370 mg m-3. In deep waters it was 8–15mg m-3. The integrated bacterioplankton biomass in the upperwater column varied from 6 to 29 g m-2. The numerical densityof zooflagellates varied in the upper layer between 0.8 x 106and 4 x 106 l-1 and their biomass was between 20 and 50 mg m-3.In deep waters they were still present at a density of 0.05x 106 to 0.2 x 106 cells l-1. The biomass of planktonic ciliatesvaried between stations from 20 to 100 mg m-3. The joint biomassof planktonic protozoa in the water column was between 3 and12 g m-3 at most of the stations.  相似文献

Biomass and productivity of microplankton were measured in theCraternaya Bay (Kurile Islands), which is influenced by hydrothermalactivity and volcanic heating. The hydrothermal fields are situatedaround its shores and underwater within the 0–20 m depth.A dense ‘bloom’ of photoautotrophic microplanktonwas observed there, dominated by diatoms, phytoflagellates andthe symbiont-containing ciliate Mesodinium rubrum. The biomassof these ciliates attained 3–11 g m-3 in the upper waterlayer. The total biomass of the phototrophic microplankton reached30–46 g m-3. The primary production in the water columnwas, correspondingly, enormously high: 6–10 g C m-2 day-1.The depth of the euphotic zone was 7 m. Pelagic photosynthesiswas inhibited in the upper 0–1 m by the spreading of alayer of low-salinity hydrothermal water. The numerical densityof bacterioplankton in the upper zone of the water column variedfrom 1 x 106 to 2.9 x 106 cells ml-1, and its wet biomass from250 to 750 mg m-3. Its production varied at stations from 70to 390 mg m-3 day-1. Chemosynthesis contributed up to 30% ofthis production in the sites neighbouring the hydrothermal vents.Outside their direct impact however, its share was negligible.The biomass of heterotrophic planktonic ciliates varied from30 to 270 mg m-3. The mechanisms of possible influence of shallowvolcanic activity on development and function of microplanktonin the Craternaya Bay is discussed.  相似文献

The population abundances and rates of biomass production ofheterotrophic nanoplankton (HNAN) in Georgia coastal waterswere evaluated by epifluorescence microscopy. HNAN populations(mostly non-pigmented microflagellates <10 µm in diameter)ranged from 0.3 x 103 cells ml–1 in shelf waters 15 kmoffshore to 6.3 x 103 cells ml–1 in waters 0.25 km fromthe coast. There was a strong correlation (r = 0.83) betweenHNAN and free bacterioplankton population abundances, but noapparent relation (r = 0.38) between HNAN and phototrophic nanopLankton(PNAN) abundances. HNAN biomass production in estuarine andnearshore shelf waters, as estimated from increases in HNANpopulations during laboratory incubations of natural water samples,ranged from 0.10 to 0.79 mg C m–3 h–3, with populationgeneration times of 9.7 to 26.5 h. There was a significant linearrelation (r = 0.95) between HNAN biomass and HNAN productivity.We calculated that HNAN may graze at least 30% to 50% of dailybacterioplankton production in Georgia coastal waters.  相似文献

The contribution of autotrophic picoplankton (APP) to phytoplanktonicprimary production, investigated during the phytoplankton growingseason (March–September) in a macrophyte-dominated backwatersystem near Vienna, showed that APP mainly consisted of rod-shapedand coccoid cyanobacteria. Two stations were examined, exhibitingsimilar seasonal patterns in the development of picocyanobacteria,although the two sites differed in picocyanobacterial cell numbersand biomass by a factor of 1.5. Cell numbers determined by epifluorescencemicroscopy varied between 0.29 x 104 and 34.5 x 104 cells ml–1at Station 1, and between 0.23 x 104 and 19.1 x 104 cells ml–1at Station 2. At both sites, the mean cell volume of picocyanobacteriawas 0.5 µm3. Carbon fixation in the planktonic communityof the Kühwörter Wasser was dominated primarily bylarger phytoplankton, although the picoplankton community sometimessupplied up to 74% (mean: 35%) of total primary production.Distinct differences in chlorophyll a concentrations and primaryproduction between the two sites refer to a greater competitionbetween phytoplankton and macrophytes at Station 2. Communityrespiration deviated greatly in time and in level at the twostations, showing a higher dynamic in community metabolism atStation 1. At this site, community respiration losses rangedbetween 12 and 100% of gross production. Hence, community metabolismcomprised net autotrophic, balanced, and net heterotrophic situationsover the investigation period, whereas at Station 2, only netautotrophic situations could be determined.  相似文献

The abundance and biomass of marine planktonic ciliates in BorgeBay, Signy Island, were determined at monthly intervals betweenApril 1990 and June 1991. At least 24 different ciliate taxawere recorded from samples preserved in Lugol's iodine, includingthe tintinnids Codonellopsis balechi, Cymalocylis convallaria,Laackmaniella naviculaefera and Salpingella sp., and the aloricatetaxa Didinium sp. and Mesodinium rubrum. Ciliate abundance andbiomass exhibited a clear seasonal cycle with high values duringthe austral summer and low values in the austral winter. Abundanceranged from 0.3 103l–1 in September to 2.3 103l–1in January, while biomass ranged from 0.5 µg C l–1in October to 12.6 µg C l–1 in December. Small ciliatesdominated abundance throughout the year, and biomass duringwinter. Larger ciliates contributed most to biomass during summer.Aloricate ciliates were common throughout the year, while tintinnidscontributed substantially to abundance and biomass only duringsummer. Salpingella sp. was the commonest tintinnid, but C.convallariacontributed most to tintinnid biomass. The seasonal patternof ciliate abundance and biomass matched that of chlorophylla concentration and bacterial biomass, suggesting tight trophiccoupling between ciliates and other components of the pelagicmicrobial community. 1Present address: Scott Polar Research Institute, Universityof Cambridge, Lensfield Road, Cambridge CB2 1ER, UK  相似文献

The seasonal dynamics of metazooplankton biomass was monitoredin an aerated waste stabilization pond during three consecutiveyears (1994–1996). The pond showed a low diversity ofplanktonic metazoans because of elevated pH, relatively highconcentration of free dissolved ammonia and low oxygen concentration.The planktonic community was composed of the anomopod branchiopodDaphnia magna, and the cyclopoid copepods Cyclops vicinus andCyclops strenuus. Both predation by cyclopoids and competitionwith D.magna excluded rotifers from the pond, except duringa short period in spring 1996. Daphnia magna was the dominantorganism from a biomass point of view. In parallel with biomass,demographic parameters, secondary production and the spatialdistribution of D.magna were studied. A significant seasonaland interannual variation in the density, biomass and productionof D.magna was observed. The maximum density of daphnids variedfrom 264 x 103 to 686 x 103 individuals m–2 and the maximumbiomass from 4 to 30 g dry weight (DW) m–2. The annualnet production was high compared with the production of Daphniain natural environments, ranging from 288 to 593 g DW m–2year–1. The annual net production of exuviae accountedfor ~25% of the total annual net production. Harvesting of daphnidsfor commercial applications that took place during the productiveperiod did not have any discernible effect on the populationdynamics of D.magna. Sexual reproduction was not observed duringthe three studied years. Negative mortality rates, occurringduring early spring, however, indicated that recruitment fromephippia was effective in the pond of Differdange and that sexualreproduction took place before 1994. Swarming was regularlyobserved in relation to high densities.  相似文献

A strain of Coleps hirtus (Ciliophora, Prorodontida) was isolatedfrom the epilimnion of monomictic Lake Kinneret. Growth of thisciliate was tested in response to 12 species of planktonic algaeand seven species of cultured bacteria from lake isolates whichwere offered as food. Eight species of algae (one Cryptophyceaeand seven Chlorophyceae) and four bacteria supported good toexcellent growth of C.hirtus. Growth rates (µ) and doublingtimes (DT) ranged from 0.008 to 0.029 h–1 and from 23.9to 90.8 h respectively. C.hirtus was able to grow on bacteriaat concentration levels as low as 2–8 x 105 cells ml–1.No correlation was observed between growth rate of C.hirtusand cell volume of the prey. aPresent address: Istituto di Ecologia, Universita di Parma,43100 Parma, Italy  相似文献

Five inbred strains (129/J, BALB/cByJ, C3HeB/FeJ, C57BI/6J andDBA/2J) were examined with two-bottle (48 h) preference ratiotesting across concentrations of sodium saccharin (3 x 10–4M, 10–3 M, 3 x 10–3 M and 10–2 M), d-phenylalanine(10–3 M, 10–2 M and 10–1 M), and l-glutamine(10–2 M, 3 x 10–2 M, 10–1 M and 3 x 10–1M). Three consistent groupings of strains were observed acrosssubstances and concentrations:
  1. C57BI/6J (preference at low andhigh concentrations);
  2. BALB/cByJ and C3HeB/FeJ (preferenceat high concentrations);
  3. 129/J and DBA/2J (preference at highconcentration for sodiumsaccharin and indifference to d-phenylalanineand l-glutamine).
If a single locus (presumably dpa or Sac) determines these phenotypes,there are likely to be three alleles. If two independent loci(presumably dpa and Sac) determine these phenotypes, an allelicassignment of Sacb/dpa+s for the C57BI/6J strain, Sacb/dpa–sfor the BALB/cByJ and C3HeB/FeJ strains, and either Sacd/dpa+sor Sacd/dpa–s for the 129/J and DBA/2J strains is suggested.Chem. A dual radioactive-labelled bacteria technique using Vibrio(DRLV), developed for laboratory studies on bacterivory, hasbeen refined for use at the concentrations of prey and predatorstypcially found at sea. Experiments with estuarine water collectedin spring and in autumn showed that bacterivorous nanoflagellates(HNF) (concentration 1.38±0.35x103 HNF ml–1) ingested2.7±0.96 DRLV flagellate1–1 h–1 at concentrationsof 0.8–2.2x106 DRLV ml–1 in the presence of 2.04±0.68x106natural bacteria ml–1. The method was also applied tosamples collected in October in the Celtic Sea, when on average1 ml of water from the surface layer contained 1.41±0.16x106natural bacteria, 14.6x103 cyanobacteria, 530±170 HNF,7.3±3.0x103 phototrophic nanoflagellates (1.5–4µm), 49.0±26.5 phototrophic dinoflagellates, 36.3±12.6heterotrophic dinoflagellates and 21.3±9.5 Leucocryptosmarina. Under these conditions the grazing rate in most samplesdid not exceed the coefficient of variation of the method (2%),although we estimate the grazing rate was -1.6 DRLV HNF–1h–1 and on one occasion a rate of 2.45 was recorded. Thegross growth efficiency for protein of -30% displayed by naturalHNF means that they could release about  相似文献

Loliun perenne L. (cv.S. 23) was grown on vermiculite in winterin a heated greenhouse for 8 weeks under factorial combinationsof two potassium regimes (nominally 6 parts/106 and 156 parts/106in Hewitt's solution) and three densities of artificially supplementedvisible radiation flux (36.1, 7.3, and 2.2 W m–2). Growthand potassium uptake were studied through the calculation ofvarious growth functions from fitted curves. There was little effect of potassium treatment but the experimentalmaterial responded markedly to light. Leaf-area ratio in thethree treatments showed extreme plasticity in increasing from2–3 x 10–2 through 6 x 10–2 to 8–9 x10–2 m2 g–1 as light intensity decreased. Correspondingdecreases in unit leaf rate, however, caused over-all reductionsin relative growth rate. Specific absorption rates for potassium (AK, dry-weight basis)were strongly reduced at the lower light intensities but alsodisplayed complex ontogenetic drifts. Values of the allometricconstant, k (the ratio of root and shoot relative growth rates),decreased from c. 0.7 at 36.1 W m–2 through c. 0.3 at7.3 W m–2 to a value not significantly different fromzero (P < 0.05) at 2.2 W m–2. In material grown under the two higher light intensities a constantinverse relationship was found between the mass ratio of rootand shoot and the corresponding activity ratio. The resultsconform to this model: Mass ratio = –0.001+45.0 (1/activityratio) where activity ratio is expressed as specific absorptionrate for potassium (in µg g root–1 h–1)/unitshoot rate (rate of increase of whole-plant dry weight per unitshoot dry weight, in mg g shoot–1 h–1). The implicationsof this relationship are discussed.  相似文献

Phytoplankton and zooplankton development in a lowland, temperate river   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
The longitudinal and seasonal patterns of plankton developmentwere examined over 2 years in a lowland, temperate river: theRideau River (Ontario, Canada). Following an initial decreasein phytoplankton and zooplankton biomass as water flowed fromthe headwaters into the Rideau River proper, there was an increasein chlorophyll a (chl a) and zooplankton biomass with downstreamtravel. At approximately river km 60, both phytoplankton andzooplankton reached their maximum biomass of 27 µg l–1(chl a) and 470 µg l–1 (dry mass), respectively.Downstream of river km 60, the biomass of both planktonic communitiesdeclined significantly despite increasing nutrient concentrationsand favorable light conditions. These downstream declines maybe due to the feeding activity of the exotic zebra mussel (Dreissenapolymorpha) which was at high density in downstream reaches(>1000 individuals m–2). There was no evidence forlongitudinal phasing of phytoplankton and zooplankton, as increasesand decreases in chl a and zooplankton biomass appeared to coincide.Overall, chl a was best predicted by total phosphorus (R2=0.43),whereas zooplankton biomass was best predicted by chl a (R2=0.20).There was no evidence for significant grazing effects of zooplanktonon phytoplankton biomass.  相似文献

Carbon (C) fixation and nitrogen (N) assimilation rates havebeen estimated from 14C and 15N techniques for a 12 month periodin a Scottish sea loch. The maximum rate of nitrogen assimilated(29.92 mmol N m–2 day–1) was in April at the mostseaward station; similar high rates were experienced duringMay at the other stations. Carbon fixation rates were maximal(488–4047 mg C m–2day–1) at the time of highphytoplankton biomass (maximum 8.3 mg m–3 chlorophylla) during May, whilst nitrate concentrations remained >0.7µ.mol l–1. C:N assimilation ratios suggest nitrogenlimitation only during the peak of the spring bloom, althoughat times nitrogen (nitrate and ammonium) concentration fellto 0.2 µmol l–1 in the following months. The verticalstability of the water column, influenced by tidal and riverineflushing, varied along the axis of the loch, resulting in markeddifferences between sampling stations. Although ammonium waspreferentially assimilated by phytoplankton, >50% of productionwas supported by nitrate uptake and only during the summer monthswas the assimilation of ammonium quantitatively important.  相似文献

A system was developed to test the effects of floodwater O2concentration on ethylene evolution and stem lenticel hypertrophy,and the effects of exogenous ethylene on stem lenticel hypertrophyin mango (Mangifera indica L.) trees. Dissolved O2 concentrationsof 1–7x10–9 m3 m–3 generally resulted in hypertrophyof stem lenticels within about 6 d of flooding, whereas floodwaterO2 concentrations of 13–15 x 10–9 m3 m–3 delayedhypertrophy until about day 9. After 14d of flooding, therewere more than twice the number of hypertrophied lenticels pertree with floodwater O2 concentrations of 1–7 x 10–9m3 m–3 than with floodwater O2 concentrations of 15 x10–9 m3 m–3. Ethylene evolution from stem tissueimmediately above the floodline increased 4- to 8-fold in treesexposed to floodwater O2 concentrations of 1–2 x 10–9m3 m–3, increased 2-fold for trees exposed to floodwaterO2 concentrations of 6–7 x 10–9 m3 m–3, butremained constant with floodwater O2 concentrations of 13–15x 10–9 m3 m–3. Plants maintained in highly oxygenatedfloodwater (13–15 x 10–9 m3 m–3), and givenexogenous ethylene developed many hypertrophied lenticels, whereasplants in highly oxygenated water and not given ethylene developedfewer or nohypertrophied lenticels. These data suggest thatethylene plays a role in promotion of stem lenticel hypertrophyin flooded mango trees, and that floodwater dissolved oxygenconcentration can regulate stem lenticel hypertrophy and ethyleneevolution in this species. Results are presented of size-fractionated primary productionstudies conducted in the vicinity of the Subtropical Front (STF),an adjacent warm-core eddy, and in Sub-antarctic waters duringthe third South African Antarctic Marine Ecosystem Study (SAAMESIII) in austral winter (June/July) 1993. Throughout the investigation,total chlorophyll (Chl a) biomass and production were dominatedby small nano- and picophytoplankton. No distinct patterns intotal Chl a were evident. At stations (n = 7) occupied in thevicinity of the STF, total integrated biomass values rangedfrom 31 to 53 mg Chl a m–2. In the vicinity of the eddy,integrated biomass at the eddy edge (n = 3) ranged from 24 to54 mg Chl a m–2 and from 32 to 43 mg Chl a m–2 inthe eddy (n = 2). At the station occupied in the Sub-antarcticwaters, total integrated biomass was 43 mg Chl a m–2.Total daily integrated production was highest at stations occupiedin the vicinity of the STF and at the eddy edge. Here, totalintegrated production ranged from 150 to 423 mg C m–2day–1 and from 244 to 326mg C m–2 day–1, respectively.In the eddy centre, total integrated production varied between134 and 156 mg C m–2 day–1. At the station occupiedin the Sub-antarctic waters, the lowest integrated production(141 mg C m–2 day–1) during the entire survey wasrecorded. Availability of macronutrients did not appear to limittotal production. However, the low silicate concentrations duringthe survey may account for the predominance of small nano- andpicophytoplankton. Differences in production rates between theeddy edge and eddy core were related to water column stability.In contrast, at stations occupied in the vicinity of the STF,the control of phytoplankton production appears to be relatedto several processes, including water column stability and,possibly, iron availability.  相似文献

Seasonal and vertical fluctuations of zooplankton species composition,biomass, and production were monitored by weekly sampling duringa two year period in one eutrophic pond in Central Finland.The study was one part of a more comprehensive study programto investigate the effects of warm water effluents from onesmall thermal power plant (35 MW) on the pond ecosystem. Becauseof the circulation of the pond water through the pumps in thepower plant the crustacean populations were very sparse in planktonduring the seasons the power plant was in operation (late Augustto May). During that time rotifers were dominant and some speciesreached very high densities (e.g., Keratella cochlearis s.l.ca. 15 000 ind. l–1 in sping). In summer months Asplanchnapriodonta, Ceriodaphnia quadrangula, Bosmina longirostris, Mesocyclopsleuckarti and Thermocyclops oithonoides were dominant. A totalof 96 planktonic and meroplanktonic taxa were identified (26ciliates, 46 rotifers, 21 cladocerans and 3 copepods). The dryweight biomass of total zooplankton was 10 mg m–3 in wintermonths, 10–100 mg m–3 in spring and 300–1000mg m–3 in summer. The total yearly production of zooplanktonwas 8552 mg dry wt m–3 a–1 in 1979 and 8440 mg drywt m–3 a–1 in 1980, from which the proportion ofrotifers was 33–39%, cladocerans 52–58% and copepods8.6 –9.4%. The winter production was 0.2–0.5% ofthe total yearly production, that of spring and autumn togetherwas 8.1–10.4% and the remainder (89–91%) was summerproduction.  相似文献

Histiobalantium sp. was found regularly in the pelagic zoneof Lake Constance, FRG, over five annual cycles. Maxima of upto 6400 cells l–1 were recorded in late summer, with similarnumbers in the 0–8 and 8–20 m depth intervals. Onan annual average, the population accounted for 10–17%of the total biomass of planktonic ciliates. In the laboratory,Histiobalantium grew well on a diet of the cryptophyte Rhodomonassp. Maximum growth rates obtained in batch cultures were 0.21and 0.33 day–11 at 9 and 18°C, respectively. In situexperiments using diffusion chambers yielded positive growthrates in autumn and winter. The highest values recorded at theambient temperatures 5, 14 and 17°C were 0.17, 0.32 and0.40 day–1, respectively. Comparing these results withthe different seasonal distributions and higher measured growthrates of other ciliates from Lake Constance, we conclude thatHistiobalantium is a superior competitor at relatively low algalfood concentrations. 2Present address: Fisheries & Oceans Canada, 4160 MarineDrive, West Vancouver, BC, V7V 1N6, Canada  相似文献

Pyrosomas are the large group of pelagic tunicates whose trophicrole in pelagic communities has not yet been sufficiently studied.We ran across a local area of high concentration of the mostwidespread and commonest species of pyrosomas, Pyrosoma atlanticum,450 miles off the Congo river mouth. The following was estimated:gut pigment content, defecation rate, organic carbon and pigmentcontent of fecal pellets, and sinking rate. Based on these dataand the measured number of pyrosomas colonies the grazing impacton phytoplankton and the fecal pellet flux were calculated.During the night swarms of 50–65 mm P.atlanticum removed53% of phytoplankton standing stock in the 0–10 m layer;sparsely distributed pyrosomas consumed only 4%. The grazingimpact in the 0–50 m layer was only 12.5 and <1% respectively.The fecal pellet flux resulting from nocturnal feeding of P.atlanticumwhile swarming made up 1.4–1.6 x 106 pellets m–210 h–1 or 305–1035 mg C m–2 10 h–1 and1.4 x 105 pellets m–2 10 h–1 or 87.4 mg C m–210 h–1 while non-swarming. Incubation experiments showedthe rapid degradation of fecal pellets at 23°C: the lossof pigment and carbon content was {small tilde}60–70%after 45 h. We believe that given the sinking rate of 70 m day–1the main part of fecal material does not leave the upper watercolumn and is retained in the trophic web of the epipelagiclayer.  相似文献

It is proposed that surface scums of densely packed planktoniccyanobacteria (blue-green algae) which exist for weeks to months,measure several decimeters in thickness and are covered by acrust of photo-oxidized cells, be called hyperscums. Hyperscumsof Microcystis aeruginosa formed during prolonged periods ofcalm weather in wind-protected sites in a hypertrophic lakesubject to low wind speeds (Hart beespoort Dam, South Africa).A hyperscum that extended over 1–2 hectares and persistedfor 103 days during winter 1983 was studied. Chlorophyll a concentrationsranged from 100 to 300 mg l–2 Microcystis cell concentrationsreached 1.76x109 cells ml–1 or 116 cm3l–1. The hyperscumenvironment was anoxic, aphotic, with a fluctuating temperatureregime and low pH values. The densely packed Microcystis cellssurvived these conditions for more than 2 months. This was shownby comparing the potential photosynthetic capacity of Microcystisfrom the hyperscum with that of Microcystis from the main basinof the lake. However, after 3 months the hyperscum algae losttheir photosynthetic capacity and decomposition processes prevailed.The hyperscum gradually shrank in size until a storm causedits complete disintegration.  相似文献

Post-embryonic development time, egg production rate and adultbody size of calanoid copepod Eurytemora affinis from Lake Ohnuma,Japan, were determined under six temperature-food conditions(103,5 x 103, 104 and 5 x 104 cells ml–1 at 15°C,5 x 104 cells ml–1 at 10and20°C) in the laboratory.The measured parameters varied with both temperature and foodconcentration. Development time from hatching to adult femalewas 9.2, 11.4 and 22.8 days at 20, 15 and 10°C respectively,at the highest food concentration. The males developed to adultat one to two days earlier than the females. An effect of foodshortage on development time occurred at the lowest food concentration.This development time was 24.8 days even at 15°C, beingtwice as long as that at the highest food concentration. Prosomelength of these food-limited females was approximately 75% ofwell-fed ones, which reduced by only 10% with increasing temperaturefrom 10 to 20°C. Clutch size (C, eggs clutch–1) ofwell-fed individuals depended on prosome length of the adultfemale (L, mm), and was expressed as an equation: C = 65.2 L383. Clutch size of individuals reared at less than 104 cellsml–1, however, mostly laid below the estimated curve,especially at the lowest food concentration being only 10% ofthat at the highest food concentration. These results suggestthat food availability is a more important factor affectingpopulation growth of E.affinis in Lake Ohnuma than variationof temperature.  相似文献

The relationships between photosynthesis and photosyntheticphoton flux densities (PPFD, P-l) were studied during a red-tideof Dinophysis norvegica (July-August 1990) in Bedford Basin.Dinophysis norvegica, together with other dinoflagellates suchas Gonyaulax digitate, Ceratium tripos, contributed {small tilde}50%of the phytoplankton biomass that attained a maximum of 16.7µg Chla 1 and 11.93 106 total cells I–1.The atomic ratios of carbon to nitrogen for D.norvegica rangedfrom 8.7 to 10.0. The photosynthetic characteristics of fractionatedphytoplankton (>30 µm) dominated by D.norvegica weresimilar to natural bloom assemblages: o (the initial slope ofthe P-l curves) ranged between 0.013 and 0.047 µg C [µgChla]–1 h–1 [µmol m s–1]–1the maximum photosynthetic rate, pBm, between 0.66 and 1.85µg C [µghla]–1 h–1; lk (the photoadaptationindex) from 14 to 69 µ,mol m–2 s–1. Carbonuptake rates of the isolated cells of D.norvegica (at 780 µmolm–2 s–1) ranged from 16 to 25 pg C cell–1h and were lower than those for C.tripos, G.digitaleand some other dinoflagellates. The variation in carbon uptakerates of isolated cells of D.norvegica corresponded with PBmof the red-tide phytoplankton assemblages in the P-l experiments.Our study showed that D.norvegica, a toxigenic dinoflagellate,was the main contributor to the primary production in the bloom.  相似文献
