The mullet Mugil liza occurs along the Atlantic coast of South America from Venezuela to Argentina, but 95% of the commercial catch is collected from south Brazil between São Paulo and Argentina. Mugil liza is a single spawner with oocyte development occurring synchronously in two groups. Spawning happens in marine areas and occurs after migration. The reproductive migration occurs from Argentina (38° S) to the southern Brazilian states (24–26° S) from April to July, with peak spawning in June between northern Santa Catarina and Paraná. The presence of hyaline oocytes was associated with high salinity and sea surface temperatures of 19–21° C, and followed the seasonal northward displacement of these oceanographic conditions. The average size at first maturity (Lm) for both sexes was 408·3 mm total length, LT. Males (Lm = 400·1) matured earlier than females (Lm = 421·9 mm). Fecundity ranged from 818 992 to 2 869 767 oocytes (mean = 1 624 551) in fish that were between 426 and 660 mm LT.  相似文献

Coscinodiscus wailesii Gran et Angst is a large centric diatom (280–500 μm diameter) from marine phytoplankton, characterized by a cylindrical frustule with flat valvar surface, two marginal rings of rimoportulae on the mantle, and two macrorimoportulae. Cells from cultured and natural populations collected in Paranaguá Bay, Paraná, southern Brazil were observed under light and scanning electron microscopes to verify the populations’ correct identity and morphology. In both populations, a typical central rosette or a hyaline area was found in the valvar center. The species’ distribution in Brazilian waters was revised, and a discussion on possible vectors of transport was made. Blooms of the species occur sporadically in the coast of Paraná, seeming to affect the local trophic chain.  相似文献

Zaprionus indianus is a recent invader in Brazil and was probably introduced from the West Afrotropical zone. So far, studies regarding its chromosomal polymorphism were limited to India. We found that Brazilian populations were very different from Indian ones. Five new inversions have been discovered. In(II)A, already described in India, where it is quite common, has also been found in Brazil, where it is very rare. The X-chromosome has three inversions; In(X)Na, In(X)Ke and In(X)Eg, which are frequent in all Brazilian populations studied. In every case, we observed strong linkage disequilibrium among these gene arrangements. During the primary collection period (2001–2002), we noticed a significant positive correlation between the frequency of these inversions and latitude, but this was not confirmed in later investigations. Rearrangement In(IV)EF was also common in all populations, while inversion In(V)B was only found in southern populations. Our data suggest that the founders that recently invaded Brazil were polymorphic for the six inversions observed. The place of origin might be identified more precisely by investigating West African populations. In order to facilitate further investigations, we present an updated polytene chromosome photomap, locating the breakpoints of every inversion observed in Brazilian populations. Evidence for the extinction of the bumblebee Bombus bellicosus in Paraná state, in Brazil, is presented. The species is found in areas covered with open grass fields and shrub vegetation, originally ranging from northwestern Argentina to Paraná, where it reached its northeastern limit. Until the early 1980s, B. bellicosus was relatively abundant in Paraná, when the last known specimens were collected. In recent surveys conducted from 2002 to 2005, no specimens were recovered at sites in which the species was previously known to occur. Possible causes for local extinction of this species are discussed, including habitat conversion, pollution and climate change.  相似文献

In this contribution, we report a distal portion of a left humerus that likely belongs to an indeterminate basal archosauromorph from the Guadalupian (mid-Permian) Rio do Rastro Formation (Paraná Basin) of southern Brazil. A precise taxonomy of the fragmented and isolated humerus UFRGS-PV-0546-P is not warranted at generic nor familiar level but, likely, this specimen belongs to an Archosauromorpha due to the lack of both the entepicondylar and the ectepicondylar foramina. The narrow distal end of the humerus, the rounded radial and ulnar condyles, and the moderately developed supinator process with a shallow ectepicondylar groove (not notched) are features reminiscent of tanystropheids rather than that of other archosauromorphs. This material likely represents the first and oldest Permian archosauromorph from South America and indicates the presence of this lineage before the P/T boundary.  相似文献

In an area reforested with Brazilian pine (Araucaria angustifolia) located in Paraná State, southern Brazil, 20‐ to 40‐year‐old trees representing 0.2% of the surveyed area had symptoms of root and crown rot, yellowing and browning of leaves from the uppermost branches and death. Three Phytophthora isolates obtained from diseased plant tissue were tested against 1‐year‐old Brazilian pine seedlings and found to display positive pathogenicity. Based on their morphological and physiological characteristics, the isolates were identified as Phytophthora cinnamomi. A GenBank BLAST search of partial sequences from the β‐tubulin and elongation factor‐1α genes, as well as the ITS regions and 5.8S gene of rDNA, confirmed the species identification. This is the first report of the involvement of this pathogen on the aetiology of Brazilian pine root and crown rot.  相似文献

This study describes the invasion of the upper Paraná River basin by Pterygoplichthys ambrosettii based on a literature review and field samples. Pterygoplichthys ambrosettii has been reported in 42 localities throughout the upper Paraná River basin, including the Tietê, Paranapanema, Paraná, Grande and Aguapeí rivers. The ascent of P. ambrosettii after the inundation of the Sete Quedas Falls on the Paraná River and the release of individuals by aquarium hobbyists were the primary drivers of this invasion.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to report the presence of a three non‐native hybrid long‐whiskered catfishes (family Pimelodidae) in the Upper Paraná River basin, Brazil. Genetic analyses demonstrated that the three presumptive hybrids were a result of the crossbreeding of Pseudoplatystoma reticulatum (central Amazonas River basin and Lower Paraná River) and Leiarius marmoratus (Amazonas, Essequibo and Orinoco rivers), producing a hybrid commonly known in Brazil as cachandiá. The potential threat to biodiversity, due to possible genetic contamination, competition and predation of wild stocks, of such artificially produced hybrid fishes is discussed.  相似文献

Abstract: An isolated dentary bone from the Triassic of To?ko ?elo, near Ljubljana (Slovenia) is referred to the genus Cyamodus. It is the first record of a placodont from Slovenia. The specimen is late Ladinian or early Carnian in age, and is thus among the latest known representatives of the genus Cyamodus. The late survival of Cyamodus in the southern Alpine domain, while it disappeared from the Germanic Basin in the early Ladinian, is probably linked to the persistence of fully marine conditions in the southern part of its range, after environments had become less favourable to placodonts in the Germanic Basin with the advent of the Keuper facies.  相似文献

This paper describes eight polymorphic microsatellite loci of the large migratory catfish Jaú, Zungaro jahu, a threatened species in the Paraguay—Paraná River Basin, which includes the Brazilian wetland Pantanal system. The number of detected alleles varied from 3 to 10, while observed and expected heterozygosity values ranged from 0.3182 to 0.8333 and 0.3298 to 0.8652, respectively. Cross-amplification on five related species was successfully evaluated. These isolated markers demonstrated to be very useful for population studies of this fish and related species, consisting in important tools for evaluations related to the management and conservation of the native populations.  相似文献

The aim of the present contribution is to describe a partial fossil skull belonging to the catfish genus Sorubim. The specimen originates from the Late Miocene Ituzaingó Formation, at Paraná locality, Entre Ríos Province, Argentina. The material described here (MACN Pv-14224) was determined just to genus because the living species of Sorubim are morphologically similar. Presence of Sorubim is in concordance with the hypothesis indicating that most extant pimelodid genera were already present by the Late Miocene. Present finding constitutes the first fossil record for the genus.  相似文献

This paper deals with the hydrological variability effects on the primary commercial fish species inhabiting the main channel and the floodplain of the large Paraná River in its middle reaches in Argentina. Analysing more than eight decades (1935–2016) of information on the most frequent and abundant commercial species in conjunction with hydrological levels and temperature, our results show that spring–summer floods of a certain magnitude (c. 6 m) and durations (> 80 days) are crucial for sustaining commercial fisheries. Moreover, the frequency of these floods was modulated by the decadal climatic fluctuations that have occurred over the past 100 years in the Paraná Basin. An insight into the probable incidence of some anthropogenic influences is also provided.  相似文献

Abstract: Peloneustes philarchus is the most abundant pliosaurid from the Peterborough Member of the Oxford Clay Formation (Callovian) of the UK. It is a valid taxon possessing a unique character combination, including a single autapomorphy: the interdentary symphysis is raised dorsally on a narrow platform. Twenty‐one specimens can be positively referred to P. philarchus. However, other specimens previously referred to Peloneustes, from the Peterborough Member near Peterborough, and the lower Oxfordian strata of Marquise, northern France, represent distinct, unnamed taxa. The skull of P. philarchus is described in detail, including new information from an uncrushed, three‐dimensionally preserved specimen and a specimen with a well‐preserved palate. Well‐preserved material clearly indicates that P. philarchus lacked nasals, but possessed a lacrimal. A previously unrecognised ‘palpebral’ forms part of the dorsal orbit margin adjacent to the prefrontal. The number of maxillary (30–31) and dentary (36–44) alveoli, the number of dentary alveoli adjacent to the mandibular symphysis (13–15), the number of foramina on the frontal and jugal, the breadth of the parasphenoid, breadth of the anterior (narial) process of the palatine and the presence of a lappet of the angular that extends onto the posterodorsal surface of the retroarticular process vary among individuals but are not considered sufficient to justify the recognition of new taxa. The presence of an open palpebral–prefrontal suture, the size of the ventral midline tubercle of the basioccipital and the presence of an anterior interpterygoid vacuity seem to vary with body size.  相似文献

Twenty polymorphic microsatellite markers were developed for the Neotropical fish Leporinus obtusidens using a next generation sequencing approach and tested in two other characifomes species, Schizodon platae and Prochilodus lineatus. Microsatellite loci alleles in L. obtusidens ranged between 2 and 20 alleles per locus (mean = 5·7), with expected heterozygosity values ranging from 0·097 to 0·956 (mean = 0·578) and observed heterozygosity values ranging from 0·000 to 0·800 (mean = 0·400) in a sample of 20 specimens from the lower Paraná River (Argentina). Most of these markers will be a valuable tool for captive breeding and stocking programmes, as well as for analyses of population connectivity and genetic structure in this broadly distributed Neotropical migratory fish.  相似文献

Population dynamics are influenced by environmental variability and understanding the abundance and persistence of individuals and populations is a fundamental goal of population ecology. Thus, estimating demographic parameters to identify the factors important for population variability is required to understand temporal and spatial dynamics. The stream-living diurnal frog Hylodes heyeri is endemic to the Atlantic Forest of Brazil in the states of Paraná, São Paulo and Santa Catarina. Here we use capture-mark-recapture methods to estimate survival rates and population size of this Brazilian Torrent Frog in Pico do Marumbi State Park, Paraná. We used CJS models for an open population to estimate apparent survival, capturability and population size in two streams. The number of captures during each session was positively correlated with the minimum weekly temperature. Despite that correlation, the most parsimonious model of survival and capturability was the constant model for both parameters, resulting in a monthly survival rate of 0.38 (95% CI = 0.30–0.46). Thus, only the abundance of the frog differed in the two streams (79 vs. 36), with the population size estimate of 187 individuals. Reproduction is seasonal in the Brazilian Torrent Frog and so the low monthly survival rate suggests that animals move over time rather than die, because 38% month−1 survival should result in <1% of the population remaining after 5 months. Thus, researchers must recognize that populations are labile and individuals often move or are washed downstream during heavy rainfall, generating apparently rapid local turnover that is unlikely to reflect true mortality.  相似文献

Comparative cytogenetic studies were carried out on Apareiodon affinis from an important hydrographic system at South America, the Paraná river basin. Two distant regions were chosen, which were separated by Guaíra Falls (formerly Sete Quedas); the region in the upper part of the hydrographic basin is called Upper Paraná (Brazil), whereas and the other in the lower part is called Lower Paraná (Argentina). Individuals from Upper Paraná have diploid numbers of 2n = 54 (NF = 108) for males and 2n = 55 (NF = 110) for females, showing female heterogamety with a ZZ/ZW1W2 multiple sex chromosomes system that is endemic for the region. In different localities at Lower Paraná, the specimens presented diploid number of 2n = 54 for both sexes, without any sex chromosomes heteromorphism. However, they have an accentuated polymorphism characterized by variation in number of acrocentric chromosomes, constituting something new for family Parodontidae. The most likely hypothesis to explain the origin of such polymorphism is based on successive pericentric inversions giving rise to acrocentric chromosomes. Thus, it was possible to detect 10 cytotypes along the Lower Paraná basin. Such chromosomal variations possibly are the consequence of an adaptative process. Our data probably indicate the occurrence of distinct species in each region that share the same denomination.
