Summary

Base-line limnological and biological data are given for Lake Bhangazi South, a small lake on the coastal plain of Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa. This shallow (Zmax < 6 m), subtropical lake is a warm and seemingly continuously polymictic system, but experiences severe (continuous?) deoxygenation of its deeper muddy sediments. Nutrient status (of N in particular), light attenuation, phytoplankton productivity and zooplankton biomass are high relative to other regionally comparable coastal lakes investigated. While the ichthyofauna is quite rich, zooplankton and especially zoobenthos communities are species-poor, and lack the relict estuarine components which often dominate these latter assemblages in comparable coastal lakes. The zooplankton is typically freshwater in composition, and contains a new species of copepod (Tropodiaptomus bhangazii Rayner); the lake may be older, or seen longer evolutionary divergence than its proximate counterparts. Benthic species diversity in the lake is especially low amongst the Crustacea and Mollusca, possibly reflecting the effect of relatively acid waters (pH ca 6.5) on the calcium budgets of these groups. Scanty observational data indicative of ecosystem changes over the past 35 years are reported and briefly evaluated from a conservation/management perspective. Along with the endemic copepod, several rare fish species give the lake added conservation status.  相似文献

Capsule Lake occupancy was related to the abundance of fish prey for adults (salmonids) and chick survival was related to type of diet, prey abundance and weather.

Aims To identify the factors determining lake occupancy and chick survival of Black-throated Divers breeding in Scotland.

Methods Measures of water chemistry, fish, invertebrates and physical characteristics were made for 90 lakes where occupancy had been monitored in at least five years between 1984 and 1995. Data on chick survival were available over this period for a smaller sample of lakes.

Results High occupancy rates were associated with a high abundance of small salmonids (the birds' principal prey) and complex shorelines. The mean number of chicks fledged per nest that hatched was 0.95 at lakes where Three-spined Sticklebacks Gasterosteus aculeatus and/or Minnows Phoxinus phoxinus were present; the mean number of chicks fledged was 0.64 where they were absent (and chicks are fed invertebrates). Chick survival on lakes with sticklebacks/Minnows was positively and significantly related to June temperature, and the abundance of these fish. At lakes lacking these small fish, chick survival was inversely related to sunshine duration in June. It is suggested that sunny weather in June can accelerate the emergence of aquatic insect larvae (especially Ephemeroptera) and lead to food shortage for small diver chicks.

Conclusions It is likely that there are sufficient suitable lakes to accommodate a moderate expansion of the Scottish Black-throated Diver population. An abundance of suitable fish prey, especially small-sized (<230 mm) salmonids, is of fundamental importance for diver conservation.  相似文献

Like many salmonid species, Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) is currently threatened by human-induced perturbations. From a conservation perspective, it is important to characterize the genetic diversity of populations so that genetically distinct units worthy of conservation effort can be identified. Here, we used microsatellite markers to assess whether a recently discovered Finnish population of lacustrine charr found in Lake Karhunpesälampi is of natural origin. We also aimed to reveal the colonization history of this lake. To this end, we quantified genetic diversity and distance of this population to other charr populations inhabiting Fennoscandia including all sources used in official Finnish stocking programs. The population was found to be genetically differentiated from all other populations analysed. This, together with the remote location of the lake and other population genetic information, indicates that the population is likely of natural origin. The population deserves to be acknowledged as a genetically distinct unit worthy of conservation.  相似文献

The use of fish manipulation as a tool for lake restoration in eutrophic lakes has been investigated since 1986 in three shallow, eutrophic Danish lakes. The lakes differ with respect to nutrient loading and nutrient levels (130–1000 μg P l−1, 1–6 mg N l−1). A 50% removal of planktivorous fish in the less eutrophic cyanobacteria-diatom dominated Lake V?ng caused marked changes in lower trophic levels, phosphorus concentration and transparency. Only minor changes occurred after a 78% removal of planktivorous fish in eutrophic cyanobacteria dominated Frederiksborg Castle Lake. In the hypertrophic, green algae dominated Lake S?byg?rd a low recruitment of all fish species and a 16% removal of fish biomass created substantial changes in trophic structure, but no decrease in phosphorus concentration. The different response pattern is interpreted as (1) a difference in density and persistence of bloomforming cyanobacteria caused by between-lake variations in nutrient levels and probably also mixing- and flushing rates, (2) a difference in specific loss rates through sedimentation of the algal community prevaling after the fish manipulation, (3) a decreased impact of planktivorous fish with increasing mean depth and (4) a lake specific difference in ability to create a self-increasing reduction in the phosphorus level in the lake water. A member of the Cyprinidae family, the Chalcalburnus tarichi is a fish species that only inhabits the Lake Van Basin. The Lake Van represents an interesting ecosystem in the world, known as the biggest soda lake in the world, in that its water is highly alkaline with a pH of 9.8. C. tarichi has bright-silver color, its back is grayish green, and the abdominal region is silver. Its body is covered with small scales, and its eyes are large. It feeds on phyto and zooplanktons. Its average life span is 7 years, and the fish reaches reproductive maturity at 3 years old. C. tarichi is an diadrom fish that lives in the lake, but during the reproduction period it immigrates to the surrounding freshwater rivers returning after the reproduction period of April–July. In the past, pearl mullet was an attractive fresh fish for the local people and was easily caught during the spawning migration, resulting in over-fishing. The species was one of the highly endangered animals of Turkey before conservation studies, some 10 years ago, have started. At present, illegal fishing activities declined, although some locals are continuing to fish during the spawning season.  相似文献

Response of a eutrophic, shallow subtropical lake to reduced nutrient loading   总被引:11,自引:1,他引:10  
1. Lake Apopka (FL, U.S.A.) was subjected to decades of high nutrient loading from farms developed in the 1940s on converted riparian wetlands. Consequences included perennially high densities of cyanobacteria, low water transparency, elimination of submerged vegetation, modified fish community, and deposition of nutrient‐rich, flocculent sediments. 2. Initial steps were taken to reduce phosphorus (P) loading. Through strengthened regulation and purchase of farms for restoration, external P loading was reduced on average from 0.56 to 0.25 g P m?2 year?1 (55%) starting in 1993. The P loading target for the lake is 0.13 g P m?2 year?1. 3. For the first 6 years of P loading reduction the annual sedimentation coefficient (σ) averaged 13% less than the prior long‐term value (0.97 versus 1.11 year?1). The sedimentation coefficient, σ, was lower in the last 3 years of the study, but this period included extreme low‐water conditions and may not be representative. Annual σ was negative (net P flux to the water column) only 1 year. 4. Wind velocity explained 43% of the variation in σ during the period before reductions in total phosphorus (TP) concentration of lake water, but this proportion dropped to 6% after TP reductions. 5. Annual mean TP concentrations differed considerably from values predicted from external loading and hydraulic retention time using the Vollenweider–Organization for Economic Co‐operation and Development relationship. Reductions in lake water TP concentration fit model predictions better when multiyear (3‐year) mean values were used. 6. Evidence available to date indicates that this shallow, eutrophic lake responded to the decrease in external P loading. Neither recycling of sediment P nor wind‐driven resuspension of sediments prevented improvements in water quality. Reductions in TP concentration were evident about two TP‐resident times (2 × 0.9 year) after programmes began to reduce P loading. Improvements in concentrations of chlorophyll a and total suspended solids as well as in Secchi transparency lagged changes in lake‐water TP concentration but reached similar magnitudes during the study.  相似文献

The humphead wrasse, Cheilinus undulatus, is the largest living member of the family Labridae, with a maximum size exceeding 2 m and 190 kg. Its geographic range covers much of the Indo-Pacific. The species is not common, recorded maximum adult densities rarely exceeding 20 fish/10,000 m2. Small individuals are typically associated with high coral cover; larger fish are found mainly on outer or deep reefs, steep slopes and passes, singly or in small groups and seagrasses. However, for reproduction the species forms small spawning aggregations of tens to more than one hundred fish. The diet of the humphead wrasse includes large invertebrates and small fishes. The species attains at least 30 years and reaches sexual maturation at about 35–50 cm total length and <5 years of age. Most small adults are female while mainly males exceed 1 m and there is evidence of female to male sex change. The humphead wrasse is of considerable cultural value in some Pacific countries and is among the most prized in the live reef food fish export trade, for which it is often taken in its juvenile size range, either directly for sale or, increasingly, for grow-out to market size. It is also marketed chilled. The species is particularly sensitive to fishing pressure. In most fished areas, density and body size have dropped substantially. It appears to be particularly heavily targeted and depleted in SE Asia and in some places faces extirpation. The humphead wrasse is often taken by night spearfishing and by cyanide, with protection typically weak or non-existent, despite regulations and by a vulnerable assessment on the 1996 IUCN Red List. The humphead wrasse has not been reared successfully in hatcheries. Other giant reef fish share many similar problems and detailed study of the humphead wrasse contributes to a better understanding and conservation of all such species. This review examines and evaluates published and gray literature, original unpublished research and correspondence with almost 50 knowledgeable workers. It examines the value of such sources for quickly, but adequately, assessing the conservation and management status and key data gaps in species that are little known, vulnerable, difficult and expensive to study and may require urgent management or conservation action.  相似文献

Sedimentary losses of phosphorus in some natural and artificial Iowa lakes   总被引:2,自引:2,他引:0  
Phosphorus sedimentation in four natural and four artificial Iowa lakes was measured by using sediment traps to determine if sedimentary phosphorus losses were greater in artificial lakes than in natural lakes and the limnological factors influencing phosphorus loss rates. Mean phosphorus sedimentation rates ranged from 13.3 to 218 mg · m–2 day–1. Although phosphorus sedimentation rates for the natural lakes as a group did not differ significantly from the rates for artificial lakes, there were significant differences among individual lakes. Phosphorus sedimentation rates also varied significantly during different seasons at different locations within a lake and at different depths within a location. Despite the variance, phosphorus sedimentation rates were strongly correlated with inorganic sediment concentrations and inorganic matter sedimentation rates, thus suggesting that inorganic sediments influence phosphorus sedimentation rates. When Iowa data were combined with data from published studies, mean sedimentation rates were directly correlated with mean chlorophyll a concentrations of the lakes. These data strongly suggest that sedimentation rates as measured by sediment traps are strongly influenced by the trophic status of a lake. Though sedimentation rates were higher in the more productive lakes, it is suggested that these rates represent only gross sedimentation rates rather than net sedimentation rates because of resuspension and resedimentation of bottom sediments.  相似文献

Synopsis The brown trout in Llyn Frongoch, a mature upland reservoir, and its nursery stream was sampled during 1983. The stream stock consisted largely of the 1983 and 1982 year classes, with fish reaching mean lengths of 7.0 and 11.6 cm at one and two years of age. The size and biomass of the stream stock at the beginning of 1983 and 1984 were estimated to be 120 and 125 (1.20 and 1.25 fish m–2) and 1.41 and 0.69 kg (14.1 g m–2 and 6.9 g m–2) respectively. Annual stream production ranged from an estimated minimum of 2.49 kg (24.9 g m–2) to an estimated maximum of 4.59 kg (45.9 g m–2). Both downstream and upstream movements of 0+ juveniles were recorded. The adult spawning stock was estimated at 79 males and 32 females, a sex ratio of 2.5:1, with most spawners belonging to the 1980 yearclass. The average size of the lake stock over the year was estimated to be 1 650 (229 fish ha–1) or 250.8 kg (34.8 kg ha–1). The 1980 yearclass was predominant; there were few fish older than five years. Seasonal variations in netting catches suggested movements to and from the littoral region. Growth in the lake was moderately fast, with fish reaching mean lengths of 21.7 and 27.2 cm by three and four years of age. Fish entering the lake after one year appeared to grow faster than fish which remained in the stream for two years. Annual production in the lake was estimated at 136.7 kg (19.0 kg ha–1). The total angling catch for the season was estimated to be 62.6 kg (8.7 kg ha–1).  相似文献

Loch Flemington is a shallow lake of international conservation and scientific importance. In recent decades, its status has declined as a result of eutrophication and the establishment of non-native invasive aquatic macrophytes. As previous research had identified the lake bed sediments as an important source of phosphorus (P), the P-capping material Phoslock® was applied to improve water quality. This article documents the responses of the aquatic macrophyte community by comparing data collected between 1988 and 2011. Summer water-column total P concentrations decreased significantly and water clarity increased following treatment. Aquatic plant colonisation depth increased and plant coverage of the lake bed extended. However, the submerged vegetation remained dominated by the non-native Elodea canadensis Michx. Aquatic macrophyte community metrics indicated no significant change in trophic status. Species richness and the number of ‘natural’ eutrophic characteristic species remained broadly similar with no records of rare species of conservation interest. Loch Flemington is still classified as being in ‘unfavourable no change’ condition based on its aquatic macrophytes despite the water quality improvements. The implications of these results are discussed in relation to the future management of Loch Flemington and in the wider context of trying to improve our understanding of lake restoration processes.  相似文献

Freshwater fisheries are central to food security in China and this remains one of the most important priorities for the growing human population. Thus, combining ecosystem restoration with economics is pivotal in setting successful conservation in China. Here, we have developed a practical management model that combines fishery improvement with conservation. For six years, a ban on fertilizer and a reduction of planktivorous fish stocking along with the introduction of both mandarin fish Siniperca chuatsi and Chinese mitten crab Eriocheir sinensis was apparent in Wuhu Lake, a highly eutrophic lake located in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. Annual fish yield decreased slightly after the change in management, whereas fisheries income increased 2.6 times. Mandarin fish and Chinese mitten crab accounted for only 16% of total fisheries production but for 48% of total fisheries income. During this six year period, water clarity increased significantly from 61 cm to 111 cm. Total nitrogen, total phosphorus and chlorophyll decreased significantly from 1.14 to 0.84 mg/L, 0.077 to 0.045 mg/L, and 21.45 to 11.59 μg/L respectively, and macrophyte coverage increased by about 30%. Our results showed that the ecological status of shallow lakes could be rapidly reversed from eutrophic to oligotrophic using simple biomanipulation, whilst maintaining fisheries economic value. It also offers a better approach to shallow fisheries lake management in Asia where traditionally the stocking of Chinese carp and use of fertilizers is still popular.  相似文献

SUMMARY 1. The development of bream populations, water transparency, chlorophyll‐a concentration, extent of submerged vegetation and densities of the zebra mussel, Dreissena polymorpha, were analysed in three shallow eutrophic lake systems subject to different fish management. 2. In Lake Veluwemeer, the bream population was reduced from c. 100 to 20 kg ha?1 after 5 years of fishing. The mortality caused by the fishery was estimated at 38% of bream >15 cm in addition to a 13% natural mortality of bream >17 cm. The decline was followed by an expansion of the Chara beds present in the shallow parts, an increase in water transparency in the open‐water zone, an increase in the density of zebra mussels and a decrease in chlorophyll‐a concentrations. 3. The newly created Lake Volkerak showed trends opposite to those in Lake Veluwemeer. Bream colonised the lake in 1988 and reached a biomass of c. 140 kg ha?1 in 1998. The water transparency decreased from a maximum of 3 m to c. 1 m and the chlorophyll‐a concentration increased from 5 to 45 μg L?1. Submerged vegetation colonised up to 20% of the total lake area in the first 5 years after creation of the lake in 1987 but decreased to 10% as turbidity increased. 4. Seine fishery in the Frisian lake system did not appear to affect the bream population despite annual catches as high as 40–50 kg ha?1. The estimated natural mortality of fish >15 cm was 15% and mortality by fishery was 26%. The high loss was apparently compensated by good recruitment and high growth rates resulting from a c. 1 °C higher water temperature during the years when bream were removed by fishing. There was only a slight decrease in chlorophyll‐a concentrations and a slight increase in water transparency. 5. The results of this study suggest that the effects of bream exploitation in eutrophic lakes can vary depending on the efficiency of the fishery, recruitment success and temperature regime. In the absence of fishery, bream dominated the fish community in the study lakes and apparently prevented D. polymorpha and submerged vegetation from establishing because of physical disturbance, enhanced internal P‐loading and resettling of resuspended sediments.  相似文献

Mass balances of total nitrogen and total phosphorus were calculated for Lake Verevi (area 0.126 km2, maximum depth 11 m, mean depth 3.6 m), a sharply stratified small lake located in South Estonia within the borders of the town Elva. The lake has up to 10 small inflows but only three of them are nearly permanent. Accidental overflows from near-by oxidation ponds during high floods have been the major source of the nutrient load of the lake in the past. L. Verevi receives a significant part of its inflow from groundwater, which is difficult to measure. In dry years the outflow is temporary. During summer the lake is sharply thermally and chemically stratified. The spring turnover is often incomplete even in homothermal conditions, thus giving the lake some meromictic features. The influx of nitrogen exceeded the outflux at any supposed proportion (20%, 50%, 80%) of surface runoff. The lake retained 45–90% of the nitrogen influx by sedimentation and/or by denitrification. The largest nitrogen losses with loss rates more than 10 kg N d−1 occurred in May and June. The calculated phosphorus retention rate became strongly negative during mixing periods. From June to November, phosphorus release from the sediment exceeded sedimentation by 205 kg in 1991 and by 79 kg in 1993. Earlier stagnation and absence of a full spring turnover in the 2000 has slowed down the recovery of the lake because less phosphorus is flushed out. However, the stronger stratification and significantly smaller phosphorus content in the epilimnion limits biological activity and as a result improves the water quality of the surface layer.  相似文献

Why biomanipulation can be effective in peaty lakes   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0  
The effects of fish stock reduction (biomanipulation) was studied in an 85 ha shallow peaty turbid lake. The lake cleared in a 4-week period in April–May 2004, which demonstrated that biomanipulation can be effective in peaty lakes. We demonstrated that it is possible to reduce the fish stock to <25 kg ha−1 benthivorous fish and <15 kg ha−1 planktivorous fish, sufficiently low to switch the lake from a turbid to a clear state. Knowledge of lake morphology, fish stock, fish behaviour, and a variety of fishing methods was necessary to achieve this goal. It is expected that continuation of fisheries to remove young of the year planktivorous species is needed for several years, until macrophytes provide sufficient cover for zooplankton and can compete with phytoplankton. Cladocerans developed strongly after fish removal. The clearing of the lake coincided with a sudden decrease of filamentous cyanobacteria and suspended detritus, and a strong increase of Bosmina. We assume that Bosmina was able to reduce filamentous prokaryotes and detritus. After the disappearance of the cyanobacteria, Bosmina disappeared too. After the clearing of the lake Daphnia dominated in zooplankton and apparently was able to keep phytoplankton levels low. In our case, wind resuspension did not prevent biomanipulation from being successful. No correlation between windspeed and turbidity was found, neither in an 85 ha nor in a 230 ha shallow peaty lake. Regression analysis showed that on average 50% of the amount of suspended detritus can be explained by resuspension by fish and 50% by phytoplankton decomposition. The main goal of this biomanipulation experiment, clear water and increased submerged plant cover in a shallow peaty lake, was reached.  相似文献

SUMMARY

A general investigation was carried out on Lake Liambezi to characterize the limnological features of the lake. The lake, 101 km2 in area and situated within the tropics, was found to be shallow and bordered by reed swamps, particularly on the south-western shore. It was polymictic and consequently oxygen levels were high at all depths. Transparency was such that photosynthesis occurred to the bottom. Conductivity ranged from 17,3 to 41,2 mSm?1 and the waters were moderately alkaline. Transfer of organic detritus from the reed swamp into the open water has resulted in the presence of high levels of organic nitrogen and phosphorus whilst ambient levels of inorganic forms were low. Planktonic chlorophyll a concentrations ranged between 1 and 104 μg l?1 and Microcystis was the dominant phytoplankter. The dominant zooplankter was Bosmina. The important species of phytoplankton and zooplankton are listed and include two new species of blue-green algae which are described. The lake was found to be generally similar to most shallow tropical African lakes with a wide diversity of food sources for fish. Progressive encroachment by Salvinia appears to hamper access to fishing areas and the fishery potential is threatened.  相似文献

The introduction of Nile perch, Lates niloticus, to Lake Victoria, East Africa, interacted with eutrophication to cause a reorganization of the lake's food web and the extirpation of many endemic fishes. The Lake Kyoga satellite system lies downstream from Lake Victoria. It encompasses species‐rich lakes where Nile perch are absent or very rare, and low diversity lakes where L. niloticus is abundant. In 1999 we surveyed seven lakes in the Kyoga system using experimental monofilament gill nets (1/4–1 inches variable mesh). At Boston University we assessed δ15N signatures of epaxial muscle from subsamples of the catch (n = 361). These signatures are often highly correlated with the near‐term mean realized trophic position of an individual organism. A neural network analysis of fish length, species name, trophic level, and lake of origin fish explained 94% of the sample variance in δ15N. We analysed statistical patterns in these signatures at a number of spatial scales. The relationship between trophic level and δ15N varied greatly among lakes. Higher diversity perch‐free lakes had greater variance in δ15N values and fish lengths than lower diversity Nile perch lakes, suggesting an important relationship between species diversity and functional diversity. Against expectations, lake size was negatively correlated with δ15N. Patterns in stable isotope signatures indicated that Nile perch lakes have shorter food chains than perch‐free lakes. The results throw up two management problems for the Kyoga system. Impacted lakes need to be studied to understand and ameliorate the community‐level effects of Nile perch introduction, whereas the species‐rich nonperch lakes, which harbour a large proportion of the remaining diversity of regionally endemic taxa, are in need of conservation planning.  相似文献

The impact of whitefish (Coregonus lavaretus (L.)) on the trophic structure of eutrophic lakes was studied in Lake Ring, a small eutrophic Danish lake (22.5 ha, mean depth 2.9 m) in which the natural fish fauna is dominated by pike (Esox lucius L.), perch (Perca fluviatilis L.), and eel (Anguilla anguilla (L.)), roach (Rutilus rutilus (L.)) and burbot (Lota lota (L.)) being the only other fish species present. A total of 10993 0+ whitefish were stocked in the lake from October 1989 to July 1990 and the structure of the fish, zooplankton and benthic invertebrate communities studied during the period 1989–1991. Stomach contents analysis revealed that the whitefish mainly ate Daphnia and copepods in 1990–1991, the proportion of copepods decreasing with increasing size of the fish and Daphnia being the overall most important food source. The density of Daphnia in the lake decreased from 72 ind. 1-1 in 1989 to 9 ind. 1-1 in 1991; concomitantly the large species Daphnia magna and D. pulex almost disappeared and the density of cyclopoid copepods increased from 72 to 101 ind. 1-1, presumably because of improved food conditions, while that of calanoid copepods remained virtually unchanged. As a result chl-a increased from 19 to 47 µg 1-1 and Secchi depth decreased from 2.4 m to 1.7 m, despite there being no change in total P and total N (0.6 mg P 1-1 and 1.3 mg N 1-1, respectively). Changes were also observed in the benthic invertebrates; Chaoborus, oligochaetes, and chironomids all decreased, whereas Pisidium increased. It is concluded that the stocking of whitefish in eutrophic lakes for commercial purposes may delay their recovery, or even lead to enhanced eutrophication.  相似文献

Physical, chemical and biological processes facilitate cross-habitat connections in lakes, prompting food webs to be supported by different subsidies. We tested the hypothesis that the pelagic food web is subsidized by littoral resources and fish foraging behaviour plays a major role in carbon flux and on food web structure in shallow hypereutrophic lakes. We performed a fish diet and carbon and nitrogen isotope analyses to predict the linkage between littoral and pelagic habitats in three shallow hypereutrophic lakes. Lakes differed in morphology, fetch, macrophyte composition and width of the littoral zone. δ13C signals of seston differed among lakes, but were similar to other producers. Macroinvertebrates and fish carbon signatures were more enriched in the lake co-dominated by emergent and submerged vegetation. Fish foraging behaviour indicates that more than the 80% of the carbon that sustain adult fish was channelled from the littoral. In conclusion, littoral carbon were relevant and sustain, in part, food web in these shallow lakes. The Norwegian mountain lake, Øvre Heimdalsvatn, received major fallout from the Chernobyl accident in the spring of 1986. Activity concentrations of 137Cs have been monitored annually in the brown trout (Salmo trutta) population of the lake over a 22-year period since 1986. The activity concentrations of 137Cs in brown trout have declined over the period, although in recent years there has been little or no reduction in activity concentrations. Throughout the period, there has been considerable individual variation in 137Cs activity concentrations. Within a single year, fish weight was the most significant factor affecting activity concentrations of 137Cs in individual fish, although sex and age·weight were significant explanatory variables. The “size effect” was not significant during the initial period after fallout and in some recent years. During the first years after fallout, the ecological half-life of 137Cs in brown trout was 3–4 years, but during the last decade this has increased significantly and has approached the physical half-life of 30 years for 137Cs, suggesting a dynamic equilibrium between catchments inputs, possible remobilisation from lake sediments and lake outputs of 137Cs.  相似文献

The present study reports on biometric indices comprising length-weight relationships (LWRs) of five miniature freshwater fish species from the Kaptai Lake, the largest lake in the People's Republic of Bangladesh. The study area included 3 stations in the 11,122 km2 catchment area of the lake and each station was sampled from November 2017 to April 2018 using push net (mesh size 2 mm) for capturing the species. The values of growth coefficient b of the LWRs (W = aTLb) of the species Oryzias dancena, Oryzias melastigma, Gobiopterus chuno, Brachygobius nunus and Badis chittagongis were 2.9575, 3.1467, 3.0535, 3.058 and 2.9396 with above 0.95 coefficient of correlation (r2). These results represent the first study of LWRs for these fish species which may help in management and conservation of the species in the whole country, including its geographical distribution.  相似文献
