The nipa palm hispid beetle, Octodonta nipae (Maulik) has been killing palm trees since its introduction into Hainan province, China, from Malaysia in 2001. It continues to spread within Hainan province, northeast to Fujian province, and northwest to Yunnan province within China. Knowledge on signals involved in mate location and recognition could help develop effective integrated pest management programs. In the present study, we first experimentally proved that antennae were essential in success of O. nipae mating. We then excised various segments/flagellomeres of adult male and female antennae and observed their mating behavior. Results revealed that the 5th to 9th flagellomeres, especially those of males, were important for the mating success. Finally, in an attempt to elucidate the types of antennal sensilla accountable for the mating success, morphology of O. nipae antennae was studied in detail with scanning electron microscopy. Six types of sensilla were distinguished: aporous sensilla trichodea (T1), multiporous sensilla trichodea (T2), aporous sensilla chaetica (Ch1), uniporous sensilla chaetica (Ch2), multiporous sensilla basiconica (B), and Böhm sensilla (Bm). Aporous sensilla trichodea is the most abundant; multiporous sensilla trichodea and sensilla basiconica are considered as olfactory receptors, and uniporous sensilla chaetica as gustatory receptor. Importance of flagellomeres 5–9 in mating success seemed to correspond to the abundance of sensilla on these segments.  相似文献

Antennal sensilla typology, number and distribution pattern were studied in the ground beetle Bembidion lampros Hbst (Coleoptera, Carabidae) using scanning electron microscopy. The 1.6–1.8 mm long filiform antennae of both sexes consist of the scape, pedicel and of the flagellum composed of nine flagellomeres. In both sexes, three types of sensilla chaetica, two types of sensilla trichodea, five types of sensilla basiconica, one type of sensilla coeloconica, one type of sensilla campaniformia and Böhm sensilla were distinguished. The possible function of the sensilla was discussed and three types of sensilla were considered as olfactory, sensilla trichodea type 2 and sensilla basiconica types 1 and 2. Olfactory sensilla occupy dorsal and/or ventral areas of the flagellomeres and occur sparsely (sensilla basiconica type 1) or not at all (sensilla basiconica type 2 and sensilla trichodea type 2) outside these areas. No remarkable sexual differences in the types, numbers and distribution of antennal sensilla were found.  相似文献

The pollination of the genus Arum (Araceae) is mainly achieved by deception, the floral odour mimicking the pollinator ovipositing site. In order to discover the sensory organs involved in this attraction, we have studied the antennae of five species of psychodine moth-flies (former Psychoda sensu lato=Psychodini), pollinators of Arum spp. The antennae of the five Psychodini reveal seven types of sensilla: multiporous tribranched sensilla basiconica (sensilla ascoidea), multiporous sensilla basiconica, multiporous sensilla coeloconica, multiporous sensilla auricillica, uniporous sensilla basiconica, aporous sensilla chaetica, aporous Böhm’s sensilla. Each species possesses three, five or six of these sensillum types. All the multiporous sensilla are probably olfactory receptors while the uniporous sensilla basiconica must possess a contact chemoreceptive function. The multiporous tribranched sensilla basiconica (s. ascoidea), present in all the species, are the best candidates for the reception of the odours given off by the ovipositing sites and the inflorescences of Arum. The multiporous sensilla basiconica and the multiporous sensilla coeloconica may be involved respectively as CO2 receptors or thermoreceptors. Psychoda phalaenoides, which is the main pollinator of A. maculatum, is the species which possesses the largest number of antennal sensilla. The sexual dimorphism, studied only in Psycha grisescens, as concerns the number of sensilla and the absence of a sensillum type which differ according to sex, is difficult to interpret.  相似文献

The antennae of Lepidoptera Neopseustidae were examined with the scanning electron microscope. The studied species, Nematocentropus cfr. omeiensis, Neopseustis meyricki, Synempora andesae, Apoplania valdiviana and Apoplania penai possess nine types of antennal flagellum sensilla: multiporous large sensilla basiconica, multiporous thin sensilla basiconica, multiporous small sensilla basiconica, multiporous sensilla trichodea, multiporous sensilla coeloconica; uniporous sensilla chaetica; aporous sensilla chaetica, aporous stylus-shaped sensilla chaetica, aporous sensilla styloconica.The multiporous sensillum type here termed “multiporous large sensillum basiconicum” is unknown from other Lepidoptera and probably constitutes an autapomorphy of the family Neopseustidae. This sensillum type is remarkable by having a single base in female Apoplania and Synempora while in male Apoplania it has a bifid or trifid base, and in male Synempora it is composed of two or three incompletely separated hairs. This may be the first recorded example of a sexually dimorphic lepidopteran sensillum type. The stylus-shaped sensillum chaeticum is a primitive type which occurs only in some lower Lepidoptera.  相似文献

As insect vectors of pine wood nematodes, Monochamus alternatus Hope and Monochamus saltuarius Gebler have different levels of attractiveness to semiochemicals. Although active use of chemical communication in both species is well known, there was no report on the differences in morphology and distribution of antennal sensilla between the two Monochamus species. The present study was carried out to explore the morphology, distribution, and ultrastructure of antennal sensilla of the two species using scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The overall shapes of the antennae were not different between M. alternatus and M. saltuarius. However, both M. alternatus and M. saltuarius exhibited sexual dimorphism overall. The antennae of each species were composed of the scape, pedicel, and nine flagellomeres, with four morphological types of sensilla: trichodea, basiconica, chaetica, and coeloconica. The four types occurred in varying numbers and distributions. The sensilla chaetica type was the most abundant in both species. Three types of sensilla (trichodea, basiconica, and chaetica) could be subdivided according to the two Monochamus species; sensilla trichodea could be divided into two subtypes, and sensilla basiconica and sensilla chaetica into three. All sensilla basiconica subtypes were multiporous, indicating that their primary function was olfactory. Sensilla trichodea subtype 2 was uniporous, indicating that the function of these sensilla might be gustatory. The morphological information obtained in our study provides a basis for future investigation of the sensory physiological function of each type of sensilla in the two species.  相似文献

Monema flavescens Walker (Lepidoptera: Limacodidae) is a serious polyphagous defoliator. Using scanning electron microscopy, the external morphology of the antennal sensilla of this pest was examined for a better understanding of the mechanisms of insect-insect and insect-plant chemical communications. The antennae of M. flavescens were filiform in shape, and 11 morphological types of sensilla were found in both sexes. Six types of likely chemosensory sensilla were identified: uniporous sensilla chaetica, multiporous sensilla trichodea, and four types of multiporous sensilla basiconica. The sensilla identified as likely mechanoreceptors included two subtypes of aporous sensilla chaetica, aporous sensilla coeloconica, aporous sensilla styloconica, and Böhm’s bristles, whereas the position of the antennae was monitored by Böhm’s bristles.  相似文献

【目的】草地贪夜蛾是一种严重危害农业生产的迁飞性害虫,本研究旨在了解草地贪夜蛾成虫触角感器的类型、超微结构和分布。【方法】采用扫描电镜对其雌雄成虫触角感器类型及分布进行观察。【结果】草地贪夜蛾雌雄成虫触角由柄节、梗节及鞭节3部分组成,雄蛾触角稍长于雌蛾,且触角表面覆有大量鳞片。共观察到7种类型的感受器,分别为■氏鬃毛(2种亚型,BBⅠ型和BBⅡ型)、毛形感器(2种亚型,ST-Ⅰ和ST-Ⅱ)、刺形感器、锥形感器、腔锥形感器、栓锥形感器、鳞形感器。■氏鬃毛主要位于柄节和梗节,其余感器均分布于鞭节。【结论】草地贪夜蛾雌雄蛾感器种类相同,但同类感器长度均存在显著差异,雄蛾各感器显著长于雌蛾,这种特化与差异是否有利于其功能的发挥还有待通过电生理技术等进一步确定。  相似文献

黄脊竹蝗是中国南方地区重要的竹子害虫,为了更好地理解黄脊竹蝗"趋尿行为"的生理生化机制,通过电镜扫描技术研究了黄脊竹蝗成虫触角感器的类型、数量、形态及分布特征,比较分析了其在雌、雄成虫间的差异。结果表明:黄脊竹蝗雌、雄成虫触角丝状,由1节柄节、1节梗节和23节鞭节构成,雌雄间触角长度及直径差异不显著(P>0.05);雌、雄成虫触角感器均有毛形感器Ⅰ、毛形感器Ⅱ、刺形感器、锥形感器Ⅰ、锥形感器Ⅱ和腔锥形感器6种;其中,锥形感器数量最多,约占感器总数的53%,主要分布在鞭节的第8~21亚节上;各类感器在雌、雄成虫间触角上的分布特征相似,雄成虫触角上感器总数、锥形和腔锥形感器数量显著多于雌成虫(P<0.05)。  相似文献

对亚洲玉米螟成虫触角的外部形态结构在扫描电镜下作了观察.触角由柄节、梗节和62—67个鞭节组成,触角背面被鳞片覆盖,绝大部分触角感器位于触角的腹面和侧面.所有鞭节的表皮上都有连续的网纹结构,但在柄节和梗节的表皮上则无.在雌雄蛾的触角上都可以找到以下七种感器,即栓锥感器、腔锥感器、锥形感器(即B?hm氏鬃毛)、刺形感器、耳形惑器、鳞形感器和毛形感器.毛形感器数目最多,并根据其形状和表面细微结构分为两种类型:A型和B型.除锥形感器外,所有的感器都分布在触角鞭节的网纹区上.对此昆虫的触角两性差异进行了详细的讨论.  相似文献

【目的】探索寄主范围不同的蛀果蛾科(Carposinidae)幼虫感器之间是否存在差异。【方法】采用扫描电子显微镜观察了为害山茱萸Cornus officinalis Sieb. et Zucc.的单食性蛀果害虫--山茱萸蛀果蛾Carposina coreana Kim老熟幼虫触角和口器感器的超微形态。【结果】山茱萸蛀果蛾幼虫触角柄节未见感器分布, 梗节上有2个刺形感器和3个锥形感器, 鞭节上有1个栓锥感器和3个锥形感器。口器上共有6种感器: 刺形感器数量多, 分布广; 栓锥感器主要分布在颚叶、 下颚须和下唇须上; 指形感器位于内唇和下颚须端节侧缘; 锥形感器和板形感器仅存在于下颚上; 内唇感器为内唇所特有。【结论】蛀果蛾幼虫触角和口器的感器与寄主范围之间未发现严格的对应关系。  相似文献

本文使用扫描电镜系统观察并描述了苹果蠹蛾Cydia pomonella(L.)成虫及幼虫触角上及口器上的感器。主要研究结果如下:1)苹果蠹蛾成虫触角背面密布鳞片,感器很少,腹面和侧面鳞片稀疏,具大量感器;2)触角上的感器大部分分布于鞭节各节,少部分分布于柄节和梗节;3)雄虫触角上着生10种感器,雌虫触角上着生9种感器,与雄虫相比,雌虫缺少鳞形感器;4)雄虫口器具鳞形感器和刺形感器,雌虫口器仅具刺形感器;5)幼虫触角3节,基节无感器,第2节具2刺形感器且其分布位置存在个体差异,端节端部具呈三角状排列的3个栓锥感器;6)幼虫口器具一定数量和不同形态的感器。  相似文献

为探索木瓜榕传粉榕小蜂Ceratosolen emarginatus寄主定位机制, 应用扫描电镜和透射电镜观察了其雌蜂触角感器的类型、 分布和超微形态。结果显示: 木瓜榕传粉榕小蜂雌蜂触角呈膝状, 由柄节、 梗节和11个鞭小节组成的鞭节组成, 第3鞭小节着生一坚固的脊骨突。触角上共发现7类11种感器, 分别为毛形感器、 刺形感器、 锥形感器(包括单孔形和多孔形)、 多孔板形感器(包括长形和圆形)、 腔锥形感器(分为3种类型)、 栓锥形乳突状感器、 角锥形感器。结合表面特征和内部结构, 锥形感器、 多孔板形感器、 栓锥形乳突状感器和腔锥形感器类型1为有孔型, 为化学感器; 无孔型的毛形感器和刺形感器是机械感器, 但腔锥形感器类型2和3为本体感器或湿热压力感器; 最为特异的为角锥形感器, 其厚壁无孔, 逆向触角主轴, 为该科昆虫所特有, 推测可防止传粉榕小蜂进入榕果时滑脱。这些结果将有助于理解木瓜榕传粉榕小蜂特异性行为, 并为下一步开展电生理研究, 揭示其信息化学物质利用和分配模式奠定基础。  相似文献

Antennal sensilla typology, number and distribution of the click beetle Limonius aeruginosus (Olivier) (Coleoptera: Elateridae) were studied using scanning electron microscopy. The serrate antennae of both sexes of L. aeruginosus consist of the scape, pedicel and of the flagellum which is composed of 9 flagellomeres. In both sexes, 5 types of sensilla basiconica, 1 type of sensilla trichodea, 1 type of sensilla chaetica, 1 type of sensilla campaniformia and Böhm sensilla were distinguished. No remarkable sexual differences in the types, numbers and distribution of sensilla were found on the antennae, except for the sensilla basiconica type II. The average number of sensilla basiconica type II on the antennae of the male beetle surpassed that on the antennae of the female beetle (3562 and 108 pegs, respectively). It is suggested that this type of sensilla on the male beetles antennae is responsible for the reception of the sex pheromone produced by the female beetle.  相似文献

Olfactory responses of Dasineura tetensi (Rubs) (Diptera; Cecidomyiidae) to leaf volatiles of blackcurrant (Ribes nigrum) were tested in a 4-way olfactometer. Newly emerged virgin females showed no response to the leaf volatiles emitted from a blackcurrant shoot. Newly emerged males (which are known to respond to a pheromone released by the female) also showed no response to the leaf volatiles. Two hours after mating females responded positively, indicating that leaf volatiles may play a role in host plant finding. Scanning (SEM) and transmission (TEM) electron microscopy of the antennae of D. tetensi showed that males and females share five sensillum types; sensilla chaetica (mechanoreceptors), sensilla trichodea, sensilla basiconica, uniporous peg sensilla and circumfila (chemoreceptors). The sensilla chaetica and sensilla trichodea resemble those found on other insects. Sensilla basiconica were found on all antennal subsegments except the tip. These are multiporous receptors with five unbranched dendrites filling the lumen. Small peg sensilla located on the tips of both male and female antennae may function as contact-chemoreceptors. The circumfila, which are a unique type of sensilla found only on cecidomyiid antennae, form loops around each of the antennal subsegments, being attached to the surface by a series of stalks. TEM revealed that each stalk consisted of one sensillum containing a single highly branched dendrite. The distal regions of the walls of each sensillum are fused together to form the circumfila. Circumfila have multiporous walls and a lumen filled with multiple branches of dendrites. Their structure suggests that they are important olfactory receptors in both the male and female.  相似文献

应用扫描电镜对采自我国广东吴川和广西南宁的红火蚁Solenopsis invicta Buren工蚁、有翅雌蚁和雄蚁触角的形态和感受器类型进行了研究。结果表明,工蚁、雌蚁和雄蚁的触角存在着较大的差异。工蚁和雌蚁的触角为膝状,末端2或3节膨大为棒状,雌蚁的触角11节,比工蚁(10节)的多1节。雄蚁的触角为线状,12节,末端没有棒状结构。工蚁和雌蚁的触角上共有7种感受器,分别为毛形、曲毛形、锥形、腔锥形、坛形、刺形感受器和Böhm氏鬃毛,前6种感受器大多集中在触角末端的棒节,棒节以外的各鞭节上主要是毛形感受器,Böhm氏鬃毛则分布于柄节和梗节的基部,鞭节上无此感受器。雄蚁触角上也有7种感受器,但其分布与工蚁的有较大差异,Böhm氏鬃毛的分布与工蚁和雌蚁的相同,锥形感受器分布在末端2节,坛形感受器分布在末端3节,其余的4种感受器较为均匀地分布在各鞭节,而不是聚集在端节。另外,新发现雄蚁中存在一种与已知的毛型感受器不同的超短毛状感受器,定名为超短毛感受器。最后,对红火蚁的触角及感受器在蚁群社会性行为中的作用进行了讨论。  相似文献

The labial palpus of the elephant louse Haematomyzus elephantis has six sensilla that represent three different types: trichoid, basiconic, and styloconic. Two rows of basiconic sensilla are situated on the dorsal and ventral surfaces of the rostrum, and each row consists of three sensilla. Male and female antennae have 15–17 trichoid sensilla situated on the scape, pedicel, and three antennal annuli. Both sexes have two sensilla basiconica on the dorsal surface of the pedicel near the junction of the scape and pedicel. Two coeloconic (tuft) sensilla are situated on the antennae of both sexes, one sensillum on each of the last two annuli. There are three plate organs, two on the last annulus and one on the penultimate annulus of the male and female antennae. Sexual dimorphism is exhibited in the male and female antennae, in that the male has about twice as many sensilla basiconica on the apex of the last annulus as does the female. The total number of sensilla basiconica on the apex of the male antennae is at least two times the number that is known to be present in any other species of lice. © 1992 Wiley-Liss, Inc.  相似文献

This study was carried out to investigate the types of sensilla and their distribution on the antennae of the Asian corn borer, Ostrinia furnacalis (Guenéee). O. furnacalis had six types of antennal sensilla: sensilla trichodea, sensilla chaetica, sensilla coeloconica, sensilla auricillica, sensilla styloconica and Böohms bristle. S. auricillica, single-walled multiporous sensilla, were presumed to be involved in chemical reception. S. coeloconica were double-walled, multiporous sensilla and could detect chemicals also. S. chaetica appeared to be mechano-receptors. S. styloconica were poreless and were thought to have thermo- and hygro-receptors. S. trichodea were single-walled chemosensilla and two subtypes were identified by transmission electron microscopy. The scape and the pedicel had Böohms bristles, which seem to function as mechanical stimulus receptors.  相似文献

Adult and nymphal antennae of the cockroach, Leucophaea maderae, contain nine or more different morphological types of sense organs. There is no outwardly apparent sexual dimorphism in adult antennae. Nymphs are dificient in gross numbers of sensilla. Sense organs are classified morphologically by their similarity to known types of sensila and are assigned functions on this basis and preliminary electrophysiological data: Sensilla chaetica (A), thick-walled mechanoreceptive hairs in groups on the antennal base; S. chaetica (B), thick-walled setae which are tactile and probably chemoreceptive, occurring in the antennal base and flagellum; S. trichodea (A), thin-walled chemoreceptive hairs of the flagellum; S. trichodea (B), minute hairs on the scape and pedicel; S. basiconica, thin-walled chemoreceptive pegs, and S. coeloconica (?pit-pegs”?) of the flagellum; S. campaniformia and scolopidia, mechanoreceptors in the base and flagellum; plus Johnston's organ and/or connective chrodotonal organs in the pedicel. Calculations based on absolute counts of sensilla and their known innervation yield an estimate of about 3.3 × 104 sensilla and 105 cells per antenna.  相似文献
