Biological parameters such as age, growth and age (or size) at maturity are vital for stock assessment and management. Aging is essential in yielding such information. However, limited aging studies have been conducted for large tropical pelagic species in the eastern and central tropical Pacific Ocean. The objective of this study is to conduct a length frequency analysis for estimating growth and mortality of bigeye tuna in the eastern and central tropical Pacific Ocean using samples from the Chinese longline fishery during February to November 2006. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters of asymptotic fork length L and growth coefficient k were estimated at L = 207.4 cm fork length, k = 0.23 year-1, and theoretical age at zero length t 0 = −0.40 year. The total mortality rate (Z) was estimated to be 0.60; the fishing mortality rate (F) and the natural mortality rate (M) were 0.25 year-1 and 0.35 year-1, respectively. The exploitation rate (E) was 0.16. This study provides the estimates of growth and mortality rate for bigeye tuna in the eastern and central tropical Pacific Ocean, which can be used as biological input parameters in further stock evaluations in this region. However, age analysis, further validation of the age composition and stock structure are needed for future studies.  相似文献

The growth rate, reproductive aspects, and natural mortality of chimaeras and ratfish are poorly known. In this study, life-history parameters for cockfish Callorhinchus callorhynchus (Holocephali—Callorhinchidae) are estimated, which is an important fish resource exploited in Chile. Specimens were sampled from the artisanal fishery captures, from November 2006 to November 2007. The standard length (SL) of males fluctuated between 20 and 62 cm, and between 21 and 70 cm for females. Von Bertalanffy growth parameters were estimated through length-frequency data analysis using MULTIFAN. The length-weight relationship and von Bertalanffy growth parameters were significantly different for males and females, as well as the length at 50% maturity. For males a model with 5 age-classes was the best, with asymptotic length L  = 52 cm SL, growth coefficient K = 0.473 yr−1, and age at length zero t 0 = −0.690 yrs. For females the best model was represented by 10 age-classes (L  = 70.3 cm SL, K = 0.193 yr−1, t 0 = −1.158 yrs) in the length-frequency data sets. Length at 50% maturity of males was estimated in 43.7 cm SL, and in 50.2 cm SL for females. The natural mortality rate fluctuated between 0.42 and 0.82 yr−1 for males and between 0.12 and 0.37 yr−1 for females, depending upon the method used. It is concluded that C. callorhynchus is a species with life-history parameters significantly different between males and females, and such differences should be taken into account in future population dynamics analysis.  相似文献

The humpback red snapper Lutjanus gibbus (Lutjanidae) is an important species for fisheries in the Kagoshima and Okinawan region of Japan. The present study estimated the age, growth and reproduction of this lutjanid species in the waters around Ishigaki Island, southern part of Okinawa. An opaque zone was formed on the otolith every year, and this formation correlated with their spawning season; these zones were identified as annual rings. Maximum ages of 21 and 24 years were observed for males and females, respectively. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters clarifying the age–fork length relationship were as follows: L  = 390.5 mm, K = 0.210 year−1 and t 0 = −1.88 year for males, and L  = 303.4, K = 0.256 year−1 and t 0 = −3.05 year for females. The main spawning season was estimated as between May and October, since greater values of gonadosomatic index for females as well as maturation oocytes and/or postovulatory follicles were observed during those six months.  相似文献

A seminal study was conducted in which the population dynamics (growth, mortality and recruitment) of the mudskipper (Periophthalmus papilio) in the Cross River, Nigeria, was elucidated for the first time using length frequency data and the ELEFAN software. The allometric relationship was: Weight=0.012(Length)2.940, n=415, r2=0.939, P <0.0005. The seasonalized Von Bertalanffy growth parameters were L=19.39 cm, K=0.51 y–1, C=0.3, and WP=0.4. The instantaneous total mortality coefficient Z was 2.208 y–1 while the instantaneous natural mortality coefficient was 1.341 y–1. The instantaneous fishing mortality coefficient of 0.867 y–1 yielded the expectedly low exploitation rate E of 0.393. Our estimate shows that the species could reach an average maximum life span of about 6 years in the Cross River system. These results are used in quantitative elucidation of the state of exploitation of the population and will serve as input for the proper and scientific management of the fish resource.Alfred Wegener Institute Contribution nr. 1090.  相似文献

The main life‐history traits of the dorado Brachyplatystoma rousseauxii, a large Amazonian catfish undertaking the largest migration known for a freshwater fish species (from the nursery area in the estuary of the Amazon to the breeding zones in the head waters of the western Amazon basin close to the Andes), were determined from a 5 year sampling of >15 000 specimens in the Peruvian Amazon. The breeding season occurred during the falling and low‐water periods, which is hypothesized to be an adaptation to maximize the chances of young stages to reach the estuary. The size at first sexual maturity was slightly larger for females than males, c. 91 and 83 cm standard length (LS), respectively. Both males and females reproduce for the first time at >3 years old. The fecundity per spawning event ranged from 481 734 to 1 045 284 oocytes for females weighing 25 and 34 kg, respectively. Seasonal variations of body condition were similar among sexes, but differed between immature specimens that had a higher condition during the low‐water period and lower condition during rising waters, and mature individuals that showed the opposite pattern. The growth characteristics were estimated by LS frequency analysis. For females, the best fitting models gave a mean birth date in August, during the height of the breeding cycle, with the following von Bertalanffy growth function parameters: LS∞ = 153·3, K = 0·29 and t0 =– 0·37 years. For males, the best fitting model gave a mean birth date in July, also during the height of the breeding period, with LS∞ = 142, K = 0·30 and t0 =– 0·36 years. At a given age, females were systematically larger than males and the size difference increased with age. The largest females sampled (148 cm LS) was 11 years old and the largest male (134 cm LS) was 9 years old. The mortality estimates were higher for males total (Z) = 1·34, natural (M) = 0·52 and fishing (F) = 0·82 than for females (Z = 0·98, M = 0·50, F = 0·48). The life‐history patterns of B. rousseauxii are discussed in light of the available knowledge about this species and the understanding of its complex life cycle.  相似文献

This paper gives four (interrelated) reasons why this index captures some essential features of body-size growth. Age and growth estimates for sand tiger sharks, Carcharias taurus, in the western North Atlantic were derived from 96 vertebral centra collected from sharks ranging from 94 to 277 cm total length (TL), and compared to previously published age and growth data. The oldest female and male sand tiger sharks aged in this study were 17 and 15 years of age, respectively. von Bertalanffy growth parameters derived from vertebral length-at-age data are L = 295.8 cm TL, k = 0.11 year−1, and t 0 = −4.2 years for females, and L = 249.5 cm TL, k = 0.16 year−1, and t 0 = −3.4 years for males. Sexual maturity is estimated to be 9–10 years for females and 6–7 years for males. Weight-to-length relationships determined for female and male sand tiger sharks in the western North Atlantic are; W = 1.3 × 10−4 × L 2.4 (r 2 = 0.84, n = 55) and W = 9.0 × 10−5 × L 2.5 (r 2 = 0.84, n = 47), respectively, and 7.9 × 10−5 × L 2.5 (r 2 = 0.84) for the sexes combined. Our results show sand tigers possess a slower rate of growth than previously thought. This information is crucial for accurately assessing this population’s ability to recover, and further justifies the need for this species to be fully protected.  相似文献

Somatic embryogenesis can be induced in the leaves of cork oak (Quercus suber L.) trees. The use of this propagation system in multivarietal forestry requires the mass production of cloned plants at low cost. Investigations were made into the influence of three types of Erlenmeyer flask and three orbiting speeds (60, 110, and 160 rpm) on oxygen transfer rate (KL a), the shear force index (SFI), biomass production, and the proliferation of embryogenic clumps (EMCs) in cultures during the proliferation phase. KL a varied between 0.11 and 1.47 h−1 without biomass production being limited by oxygen availability. The EMCs grew even in hypoxic conditions, although the suppression of gaseous exchange strongly reduced biomass production. Cultures with different levels of hydrodynamic stress and SFI values (1.4·10−3–8.8·10−3 cm min−1) were obtained. Proliferation rates of EMCs increased with agitation rate and the SFI. The largest number of EMCs was obtained in baffled flasks agitated at 160 rpm (KL a of 1.47 h−1, and SFI of 8.8·10−3 cm min−1) with mild hydrodynamic stress enhancing growth. Biomass production increased with agitation and hydrodynamic stress, but only when the SFI value was below 5·10−3 cm min−1. The greatest biomass production was obtained in smooth 100 ml flasks agitated at 160 rpm. The differentiation of embryos was favoured by the lowest KL a (0.11 h−1) and SFI (1.40·103 cm min−1) values, achieved using these flasks when agitated at 60 rpm.  相似文献

【目的】丁氟螨酯是一种新型酰基乙腈类非内吸性杀螨剂,对害螨的各个螨态都有很高活性,具有较高的应用价值。本文评价了丁氟螨酯对二斑叶螨生长发育的影响,以期为合理用药和二斑叶螨的综合防治提供理论依据。【方法】采用浸叶法测定丁氟螨酯对二斑叶螨成螨与卵的致死中浓度、雌成螨产卵量、各螨态存活率以及各发育历期的影响。【结果】经丁氟螨酯处理后,二斑叶螨日均产卵量和总产卵量下降,各螨态发育历期延长;LC70、LC50、LC30剂量处理二斑叶螨雌成螨后,每雌日均产卵量为(2.09±0.17)、(3.02±0.22)、(3.39±0.13)粒,每雌总产卵量为(29.29±2.31)、(42.32±3.01)、(47.41±1.77)粒,与空白对照差异显著(P<0.05,df=3);不同剂量处理二斑叶螨卵后,各螨态发育历期的延长程度不同,但成功孵化的卵能完成发育历期,LC 70剂量延长卵历期至(4.45±0.07)d、前若螨历期至(2.75±0.04)d、后若螨历期至(2.61±0.05)d和总历期至(12.53±0.18)d,LC 50剂量延长前若螨历期至(2.52±0.08)d、后若螨历期至(2.67±0.09)d和总历期至(12.22±0.18)d,LC 30剂量延长前若螨历期至(2.45±0.06)d和总历期至(11.53±0.08)d,与空白对照差异显著(P<0.05,df=3)。【结论】丁氟螨酯能对二斑叶螨的生长发育产生明显影响,降低二斑叶螨的产卵能力,抑制卵孵化,延长发育历期,从而降低二斑叶螨种群的发育速率,对该螨的种群控制有积极意义。  相似文献

Parameters k and L in the Von Bertalanffy equation and their derivatives =kL, = logk + 2logL; as well as slopes bL/t of the regression L=atb (t, years), relative increments (CI=[L2–L1]/L1), specific growth rates (Cv=InL2–InL1), growth characteristics (Clh = CvxL1) and growth constants (Clt=Cvx[t2 + t1]/2) were analyzed. A total of 121 bream Abramis brama stocks in the first 10 years of life were studied. At the same real growth rate (the average absolute linear annual increments, mm year–1) the values of k, L, , , bL/t, CI, Cv and Clt in different stocks vary within almost the whole range. The main reason is the natural process of growth self-regulation: the relation between the average body lengths in the first year (L1) and the relative growth rates (slopes bL/t) is negative (bL/t = exp[0.1183–0.0053L1], r=0.76). The above relation defines 4 principal types of the Ford-Walford lines. Thirty four percent of the stocks have rather steep slopes of the lines and even parallel the absolute slope of 45°, so the L values of these stocks have no biological significance. The authors recommend a simple and more precise, from a biological point of view, approach for comparing fish population growth rates.  相似文献

First, the effect of different levels of nitrogen source on clavulanic acid (CA) production was evaluated in batch cultivations utilizing complex culture medium containing glycerol and three different levels of soy protein isolate (SPI). Cellular growth, evaluated in terms of the rheological parameter K, was highest with a SPI concentration of 30 g.L−1 (4.42 g.L−1 N total). However, the highest production of CA (380 mg.L−1) was obtained when an intermediate concentration of 20 g.L−1 of SPI (2.95 g.L−1 total N) was used. To address this, the influences of volumetric flow rate (F) and glycerol concentration in the complex feed medium (CsF) in fed-batch cultivations were investigated. The best experimental condition for CA production was F=0.01 L.h−1 and CsF=120 g.L−1, and under these conditions maximum CA production was practically twice that obtained in the batch cultivation. A single empirical equation was proposed to relate maximum CA production with F and CsF in fed-batch experiments.  相似文献

Age, growth and mortality of the sand smelt, Atherina boyeri (Risso, 1810), were studied in the Vistonis estuarine system in northern Greece from February 1989 to August 1990. Overall male : female sex ratio was 1 : 2.5, statistically different from unity. Total lengths ranged between 13 and 105 mm. Age determination based on scale readings showed that the population comprised five age‐groups. Sand smelt grew allometrically (b = 3.22) and rapidly during the first year, achieving 60% of their growth. Growth parameters of the population were: L = 116.97 mm, K = 0.35 year−1 and to = −0.99 years. Growth index ϕ′ was 3.69 of all individuals studied. The mean growth index was significantly lower for the Mediterranean lagoon (ϕ′ = 3.73, SD = 0.1) than for Atlantic populations (ϕ′ = 3.92, SD = 0.06). Total mortality rate was Z = 1.29 year−1 and natural mortality M = 0.95 year−1. Males had a lower life span than females, the latter dominating length classes >60 mm. Exploitation rate of the studied population was E = 0.26, suggesting that stock size might increase and generate improved possibilities for exploitation.  相似文献

The biology and fisheries of Tilapia mariae, the only tilapiine cichlid fish in the Iba Oku (Uyo, Nigeria) wetland stream was studied. There were more females than males in the population. The smallest sexually mature female fish was 11.0 cm total length (TL) while the size at 50% maturity was 17.1 cm TL. Absolute fecundity (Fe) ranged from 953 to 3200 eggs and was positively correlated with TL. The fish bred year‐round with peaks in November, March–April and July–September. The seasonalized von Bertalanffy growth function (VBGF) was fitted to the 12 consecutive months length–frequency data (n = 2439) to obtain a VBGF with the following parameters: L∞ (asymptotic length) = 30.4 cm TL, K (growth coefficient) = 0.4 year?1, C (amplitude of growth oscillation) =0.4, and WP (winter point) = 0.9. The seasonalized length‐converted catch curve method gave Z (instantaneous total mortality coefficient) as 1.75 year?1, M (instantaneous natural mortality coefficient) was 0.99 year?1 while F (instantaneous fishing mortality coefficient) was 0.76 year?1 and E (=F/Z the current exploitation rate) was 0.43. Length at first capture (Lc) was 17.7 cm TL. The fish was recruited to the fishery year‐round with two pulses. From the Beverton and Holt relative yield per recruit analysis via the selection ogive procedure, Emax (predicted maximum exploitation rate) was 0.54. The stock was not overexploited, since E < Emax. This study also showed that the fish is an r‐selected species with a few K‐selected traits.  相似文献

The algal growth potential (AGP) in water samples of the Danube wetland waters (1388–1426 r. km) as well as the effect of nitrogen (in final concentration of 0.16 g l−1) and phosphorus enrichment (in final concentration of 0.02 g l−1) on the AGP was investigated by miniaturized bioassay method. Values of the total biomass of Chlorella kessleri up to the 14th day of incubation were suitable for the evaluation of trophic conditions according to the classification of AGP. On the basis of the AGP results, trophic conditions in 55% of the samples were oligo-mesotrophic and in 46% of the samples meso-eutrophic. A statistically significant correlation (r = 0.34) was established between the AGP of C. kessleri in original water samples and NO3 concentrations in situ. The TN/TP ratio in the wetland waters indicated a greater limitation due to nitrogen than phosphorous. Significantly lower TSITN than TSISD, TSIChla and TSITP indicated nitrogen limited conditions. In order to quantify established nutrient limitation by the bioassay method, the effect of added N and P concentrations on the growth rate of C. kessleri was expressed as the degree of nutrient limitation (Δr d−1) during 7 days of incubation. In the Danube wetland waters only N limitation was established in June and July; N and P limitation in May and September while in August and October 2003 neither of the tested nutrients were limiting. From May to October 2003 the significantly highest degree of nitrogen (Δr = 0.736 d−1) and phosphorus limitation (Δr = 0.474 d−1) was determined in Lake Sakadaš.  相似文献

Age and growth estimates were determined for the sandbar shark, Carcharhinus plumbeus, from Oahu, Hawaii in the central Pacific Ocean. Age estimates were obtained through vertebral centra analysis of 187 sharks. We verified our age estimates through marginal increment analysis of centra and oxytetracycline marking methods of at liberty sandbar sharks. Sizes of sampled sharks ranged from 46 to 147 cm pre-caudal length. Four growth models were fitted to length-at-age data; two forms of the von Bertalanffy growth model, the Gompertz growth model, and a logistic growth model. Males and females exhibited statistically significant differences in growth, indicating that females grow slower and attain larger sizes than males. Growth parameter estimates revealed slower growth rates than previously estimated (based on captive specimens) for Hawaiian sandbar sharks. The von Bertalanffy growth model using empirical length-at-birth provided the best biological and statistical fit to the data. This model gave parameter estimates of L = 138.5 cm PCL and k = 0.12 year−1 for males and L = 152.8 cm PCL, k = 0.10 year−1 for females. Male and female sandbar sharks mature at approximately 8 and 10 years of age, respectively.  相似文献

The population dynamics of two small cichlid fishes (Pharyngochromis darlingi andPseudocrenilabrus philander) were studied in Lake Kariba, a very large African man-made lake. They are of no economic importance but make up about 14% and 7% respectively of the inshore fish population and are the major components of the diet of fish-eating birds on the lake.P. darlingi isthe larger species (L = 156.5 mm) and is found on both shelving and steep, eroding shores. Supplementary UV-B (12.2 kJ m−2 d−1 UV-BBE) provided to Vigna radiata for 2 h d−1 suppressed the length of root, shoot and whole plants, number of leaves, total leaf area, leaf area index, specific leaf mass, fresh and dry mass of leaves and shoot, relative growth rate and net productivity. In unstressed green gram plants (10 kJ m−2 d−1 UV-BBE), triadimefon (TRIAD) (20 mg dm−3) enhanced growth in all parameters over control. The growth promoting effect of TRIAD enabled the UV-B impacted plants to overcome the growth inhibitions to varying degrees indicating its protective potential against UV-B stress. Phytoplankton supports fisheries and aquaculture production. Its vital role as food for aquatic animals, like mollusks, shrimp, and fish cannot be overemphasized. Because of its contribution as a food source for fish, the growth kinetics of Microcystis aeruginosa, a dominant cyanobacterium in the lake, was studied. The regular occurrence of M. aeruginosa is experienced during the months of May to July or from September to November in Laguna de Bay, the largest freshwater lake in the Philippines. M. aeruginosa was collected from Laguna de Bay, isolated, and established in axenic conditions. Data on the growth kinetic parameters for nitrate-nitrogen and phosphate-phosphorus utilization by M. aeruginosa gave the following values: half-saturation constant (K s ), 0.530 mg N. L−1 and 0.024 mg P. L−1 respectively; maximum growth rate (μ max ), 0.671. d−1 and 0.668. d−1 respectively; maximum cell yield, 6.5 and 6.54 log, cells. ml−1 respectively; nutrient level for saturated growth yield, 8.71 mg N. L−1 and 0.22 mg P. L−1 respectively; and minimum cell quota (Q 0 ), 2.82 pg N. cell−1 and 0.064 pg P. cell−1 respectively. The low K s value and high maximum growth rate (μ max ) for phosphorus by M. aeruginosa would suggest a high efficiency of phosphorus utilization. On the other hand, the high K s value for nitrogen indicated a low rate of uptake for this nutrient.  相似文献

Under‐or non‐exploited areas are useful to aid in evaluating the potential productivity of fish stocks for sustainable fisheries. The Gulf of Castellammare (NW Sicily), where trawling has been banned since 1990, is a good site to study the biology and dynamics of low impacted fish populations. A total of 661 (595 female and 66 male) specimens of red mullet Mullus barbatus (95–245 mm total length, TL) obtained by monthly sampling from trammel net artisanal fishery, was collected in the Gulf of Castellammare from April 2006 to June 2007. Mature females occurred from April to September, with a peak in May. The mean Gonado‐somatic index (GSI) also showed a May peak for both sexes. From Sagittae (642) readings the age structure ranged from age class I to VII in females and I to V in males. Female growth parameters, estimated according to the classic von Bertalanffy model, were: L = 221.2 ± 11.51 mm standard error (SE), ky?1 = 0.38 ± 0.09 SE, t0y = ?0.94 ± 0.38 SE. The growth performance index (ø’ = 2.27) was included in the range of values obtained by hard structure readings in the Central Mediterranean. Natural mortality (My?1) of females estimated by different methods ranged between 0.62 and 0.87 (mean value = 0.71 ± 0.06 SE).  相似文献

Potassium is taken up by maize (Zea mays L.) coleoptile cells via a typical plant inward rectifier (K ir ). Sufficient conductance of this channel is essential in order to maintain auxin-stimulated cell elongation. It was therefore investigated whether the activity of this channel is subject to direct or indirect control by this growth hormone. Patch-clamp measurements of whole coleoptile protoplasts revealed no appreciable effect of externally applied 10 μM or 100 μM α-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) on the activity of K ir over test periods of ≥ 18 or ≥ 8 min, respectively. When, however, K ir was recorded in the cell-attached configiuration and 10 μM NAA administered to the bath medium, the conductance of K ir increased significantly in 13 out of 18 protoplasts over the control. This rise occurred at a fixed protoplast voltage after a lag period of less than 10 min and exhibited no voltage dependency. The absence of response to NAA of protoplasts in the whole-cell configuration indicates that auxin perception and channel control is linked via a soluble cytoplasmic factor and that this mediator is washed out or modified upon perfusion of the cytoplasm with pipette solution. To search for this expected diffusible factor the K ir current was recorded before and after elevation of Ca2+ and H+ in the cytoplasm. In the whole-cell configuration the increase in Ca2+ from a nanomolar value to >1 μM by means of Ca2+-release from the caged precursor Na2-DM-nitrophen left K ir unaffected. The whole-cell K ir conductance was also not affected upon addition of 10 mM Na+-acetate to the bath medium, an operation used to lower the cytoplasmic pH. This excludes a primary role for the known auxin-evoked rise in cytoplasmic Ca2+ and H+ in K ir activity. We postulate that another, as yet unknown, mechanism mediates the auxin-evoked stimulation of the number of active K ir channels in the plasma membrane.
