Two field experiments examined the effect of straw spread on the soil surface on the incidence of bean yellow mosaic potyvirus (BYMV) in plots of narrow-leafed lupin (Lupinus angustifolius) sown at narrow (17.5 cm) vs wide (35 cm) row spacing and low (25–30 kg/ha) vs medium (50–60 kg/ha) seeding rates. Virus ingress was by vector aphids flying from adjacent pastures dominated by subterranean clover. In Expt 1, in which BYMV infection was extensive, straw greatly decreased the rate and amount of virus spread regardless of row spacing or plant density, decreasing infection more than 70% by the final assessment date. This effect of straw was attributed to decreased landing rates of incoming vector alates. In the plots without added straw, narrow row spacing decreased BYMV % infection by 38% by the last assessment date. Sowing at the medium seeding rate also decreased infection. The effect of wide row spacing seemed due to delayed canopy closure between rows which is likely to have increased the landing of aphids while the effect of medium seeding rate was attributed partly to the dilution effect of greater plant numbers and partly to the effects of partial canopy development in decreasing landing rates. In Expt 2, in which the incidence of BYMV infection was low, added straw again decreased BYMV spread, but by only 25–27% at final assessment; there were no effects of row spacing or seeding rate. In both experiments, an additional “reference” treatment was included which had a high (90–100 kg/ha) seeding rate, narrow rows and no straw. The dense canopy it developed also decreased BYMV incidence but less than in the plots with added straw in Expt 1. In Expt 1, adding straw and the resulting decrease in plants killed by BYMV, were associated with an overall increase in lupin grain yield of 20%. The greater plant densities resulting from the medium seeding rate also increased grain yield but row spacing did not affect it significantly. These results indicate that retaining stubble on the soil surface at seeding will assist in management of BYMV infection in lupin crops but that wide row spacing in the absence of retained stubble is undesirable.  相似文献

Summary Grain and straw yields of barley improved significantly due to N–S, row orientation, 30 cm row spacing and 90 kg/ha seed rate. A plant rectangularity of 13.6 was found most conducive for grain and straw yeilds of barley. None of the malt quality characters were affected wignificantly due to row orientation. A row spacing of 30 cm and a seed rate of 90 kg/ha improved the malt quality characters of barley. Increase in protein percentage at 30 cm row spacing deteriorated the malt quality.  相似文献

Nitrogen redistribution to sorghum grains as affected by plant competition   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
An experiment was conducted to study nitrogen absorption and translocation in grain sorghum plants during their reproductive growth. Sorghum was grown in four row spacings: 50 and 70 cm in single rows, 80 and 120cm in double rows 20 cm apart. Plant populations were 71000, 142000 and 213000 plants/ha. After flowering, samples were taken at 12 day intervals, and the plants were divided into grains and stover, where N was analyzed. There was an increase in N concentration in lower plant populations and in wider row spacings. However, total nitrogen accumulation (in kg/ha) increased as the number of plants was increased. In the vegetative parts of the plants there were higher N concentrations in lower populations showing that there was a higher N absorption and a lower translocation to the grains. When grain sorghum was grown in 50 cm rows, there was a high N accumulation, a high N translocation to the grains and the highest yield. This row spacing led to the highest N use efficiency.  相似文献

于2014和2015年在黄土高原半干旱区全膜覆盖种植技术下,研究了不同种植密度下玉米行内间作豌豆对作物群体总产量的影响.结果表明: 2014年,当玉米株距为40和50 cm时,与不插播相比,在玉米株间插播2株豌豆显著提高了作物群体籽粒总产量;而在株距60 cm情况下,插播豌豆对作物群体总产量无显著影响.2015年,玉米株距40和50 cm情况下,与对应株距的单作玉米相比,在玉米株间插播2株豌豆对群体籽粒总产量无显著影响;但是在玉米株距60 cm的情况下,株间插播2株豌豆使作物群体籽粒总产量显著增加.导致两个试验年份之间玉米行内间作豌豆的产量效应差异的主要原因是生长季降水量在2014年较2015年充沛.综合比较,玉米株距40 cm、株间插播2株豌豆间作形式的籽粒总产量最高.此外,在玉米单作和行内间作中,籽粒总产量均随玉米株距的增大而减小.  相似文献

The response of an autumn-sown determinate selection, 858 , to different plant distribution patterns was examined in field trials during the two seasons 1985/86 and 1986/87 at the University of Nottingham. Plants were sown at two densities (20 and 40 plants per m2) and at three different row widths (11.9, 23.8 and 47.6 cm) in the autumn of each season. Plant numbers and combined yields were greater in 1986/87 than in 1985/86. Grain yield was unaffected by differences in inter-row spacing and this was ascribed to the early attainment of complete ground cover even when plants were grown in widely spaced rows. Yield was most strongly correlated with seed numbers per m2. An examination of yield on a per plant basis suggested that narrow inter-row spacings were more productive at low plant densities, while yield per plant was greater at higher densities if the crop was grown on wider inter-row spacings. It was concluded that autumn-sown determinate forms of faba bean were able to compensate for large changes in plant distribution and consequently yield was unaffected.  相似文献

In 1987, the University of Guelph established a large tree-based intercropping system on 30 ha of prime agricultural land in southern Ontario, Canada. The purpose was to investigate various aspects of intercropping trees with prime agricultural crops. In this study, objectives were to investigate tree competitive effects (i.e., shading and competition for soil moisture) on under-story crop net assimilation (NA), growth, and yield. The effects of tree competition on corn (C4 plant) and soybean (C3 plant) photosynthesis and productivity in the intercropped system were studied during the 1997 and 1998 growing seasons. Corn and soybeans were intercropped with hybrid poplar (clone-DN-177) and silver maple (Acer sacharrinum) at a within-row spacing of 6 m and between-row spacing of 12.5 or 15 m. Trees were absent from control rows. Tree rows were oriented approximately north and south. Twelve crop locations were sampled around each tree. These were at 2 and 6 m east and west of the tree, located along a primary axis running through the tree trunk and perpendicular to the tree row, and at 2 m north and south of each location along the primary axis. Net assimilation and plant water deficit measurements were made three times daily (morning, noon, afternoon) on sampling days in July. Generally, tree competition significantly reduced photosynthetic radiation (PAR), net assimilation (NA), and growth and yield of individual soybean or corn plants growing nearer (2 m) to tree rows in both years and soil moisture in 1998. NA was highly correlated with growth and yield of both crops. These correlations were higher for corn than soybeans in both years, with corn, rather than soybeans being more adversely impacted by tree shading. In 1997, poplar, rather than maple, had the greatest competitive effect on NA. In 1997, the lowest plant water deficits, for soybeans and for corn, were observed for the maple treatment. Nonetheless, in both years, daily plant water deficits were non-significantly and poorly correlated with NA and growth and yield of both crops. However, soil moisture (5 and 15 cm depth) was significantly correlated with soybeans yield in 1998. Possible remediation strategies are discussed to reduce tree competitive interactions on agricultural crops.  相似文献

The objective of this investigation was to study (a) the yield components of sesame under different population densities and (b) their association with seed yield per unit area. The branched, non-shattering variety “Baco” was used. Rows were 60 cm apart and spacing between plants on the row was 2.5, 7.5, 15.0, 22.5, or 30.0 cm. Plant height and height of first fruit were only slightly affected by changes in plant density. More branches were produced at lower densities. Capsule length was smaller and number of seeds was lower only at the 2.5 cm spacing. Number of capsules and seed yield per plant increased in wider spacings. Number of capsules and seed yield per unit area decreased at spacings wider than 7.5 cm. Yield of seed per unit area was positively and significantly correlated with plant height, number of primary branches, number of capsules per plant, number of seeds per capsule, seed weight, seed yield per plant and number of capsules per unit area.  相似文献

The plant density‐dependent variations in the root yield and content, and the yield of biomarkers in Australian grown Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge , a commonly used Chinese medicinal herb for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, were investigated in a field trial involving six different plant densities. The key biomarker compounds cryptotanshinone, tanshinone I, tanshinone IIA, and salvianolic acid B were quantified by a validated RP‐HPLC method, and the root yields were determined per plant pair or unit area. There were significant variations (p<0.05) in the root yields and contents and the yields of the biomarkers between the different plant densities. Positive linear correlations were observed between the contents of the three tanshinones, whereas negative linear correlations were revealed between the contents of the tanshinones and salvianolic acid B. The highest root yield per plant pair was achieved when the plants were grown at 45×30 cm or 45×40 cm, whereas the highest root production par unit area was obtained for a plant density of 30×30 cm. The highest contents of the three tanshinones and the most abundant production of these tanshinones per unit area were achieved when the plants were grown at 30×30 cm. However, the highest content of salvianolic acid B was found for a density of 45×40 cm, while its highest yield per unit area was obtained for densities of 30×40 cm or 45×30 cm. The findings suggest that the plant density distinctly affects the root yield and content and the yield of tanshinones and salvianolic acid B in Australian grown S. miltiorrhiza, which may be used as a guide for developing optimal agricultural procedures for cultivating this herb.  相似文献

Planting corn, Zea mays L., in row spacings less than the conventional width of 76 cm has been shown to increase grain yields. This study was conducted to determine if row spacing and plant density affected corn rootworm, Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte and D. barberi Smith & Lawrence, adult emergence, larval injury to the roots, and plant tolerance to injury. Field experiments were conducted at Ames and Nashua, IA, in 1998, 1999, and 2000. Treatments were row spacings of 38 and 76 cm, and plant populations of 64,500 and 79,600 plants per hectare. Adult emergence was 31% greater in 38 cm compared with 76-cm rows. However, root injury was not significantly different between row spacings or plant populations. Row spacing alone did not significantly influence tolerance to injury, measured as root size and the amount of root regrowth. However, at one environment where precipitation was low, plants in 38-cm rows produced 25% more regrowth compared with plants in 76-cm rows. Root dry weight and regrowth were suppressed by 16 and 32%, respectively, at the high plant population. Although lodging was 51% lower in the 38-cm rows compared with the 76-cm rows, grain yields were not significantly different between row spacings. Reducing the row spacing of field corn from 76-38 cm should not increase the potential for injury from corn rootworm larvae.  相似文献

Although plants may simultaneously experience intra- and interspecific competition for pollination, their relative strength has rarely been experimentally evaluated. Yet because intra- and interspecific competition can be caused by different mechanisms, their effect on the ecology and evolution of plants may differ. To determine the relative strength of intra- and interspecific competition for pollination, I manipulated the presence of heterospecifics and density of conspecifics using Ipomopsis aggregata as the focal species. All plots contained I. aggregata and Castilleja linariaefolia, but C. linariaefolia inflorescences were removed from half of the plots to create the heterospecifics-absent treatment. Within each plot, all I. aggregata inflorescences were removed from a 5-m radius around a focal plant to create a low conspecific density experimental unit, and a group of 12 I. aggregata plants/1 m2 was designated as a high conspecific density unit. Conspecific pollen deposition was reduced when C. linariaefolia was present but was not influenced by I. aggregata density. Although seed set per fruit was reduced by 17% when C. linariaefolia was present, it was not significantly influenced by either treatment. Interspecific competition for pollination is stronger than intraspecific competition in the I. aggregataC. linariaefolia system, but neither process appears to influence plant fitness.  相似文献

In experiments with spring and winter wheat at Rothamsted and Woburn during 4 years CCC increased yield at close spacing (4 in) (10 cm) more than at usual spacing (8 in) (20 cm), but there was no interaction between spacing and yield. Some experiments tested up to 2·4 cwt/acre (300 kg/ha) N to see whether yields continued to increase with more than usual amounts of N, when CCC prevented lodging. There was no evidence of this. When a short dry spell occurred at ear emergence, yield of spring wheat was increased by 6 cwt/acre (750 kg/ha) by CCC and 10 cwt (1250 kg) by irrigation. CCC probably improves yield in these conditions because the larger root system it causes enables more ear-bearing shoots to survive. CCC increases yield in two ways, either by increasing ears or grain per ear. In an unlodged crop CCC usually makes the grains smaller, but by preventing lodging it can also increase size. Usually CCC decreases the leaf area per shoot. The flag leaf may be smaller, unchanged or larger than those of untreated plants. There was no obvious connexion between flag-leaf area and grain yield; when CCC decreased flag-leaf area duration by 25 %, grain yield was unchanged. The results suggest that using CCC gives a more than even chance of a profitable yield increase.  相似文献

Summary The interaction between grazing by Gastrophysa viridula and interspecific plant competition was investigated for Rumex obtusifolius growing in the field. During an eight-month growing season non-competing R. obtusifolius grew larger than competing plants although herbivore loads (beetle productivity per unit leaf area) were similar for competing and non-competing plants. However, grazing significantly reduced the growth of R. obtusifolius only in competing plants thus demonstrating a synergism between plant competition and invertebrate herbivory. The relevance of these findings for the distribution of plant species is discussed.  相似文献

大田试验以夏玉米为试料,采用裂裂区试验设计,密度设计包含75000、90000\,105000株/hm2 3个密度作为主区,每个密度处理包括: ①等行距60 cm×单株留苗,②等行距60 cm×双株三角留苗,③宽窄行距(宽行70 cm + 窄行距50 cm)×单株留苗和 ④宽窄行距×双株三角留苗共12种方式进行处理,测定光合及叶绿素荧光参数。研究不同群体结构对夏玉米灌浆期群体光合特性的影响。结果表明,在吐丝期,随着种植密度的增加,群体光合速率提高;蜡熟期以90000株/hm2最高,种植方式上表现为宽窄行大于等行距种植,双株留苗种植方式大于单株种植方式,差异均达到显著水平;随着种植密度的提高,群体内3个层次叶片最大光能转换效率(Fv/Fm)、光化学猝灭系数(qP)逐渐降低,种植方式基本表现为宽窄行大于等行距,留苗方式表现为双株大于单株。试验条件下,以90000株/hm2,宽窄行,双株三角留苗产量最高。  相似文献

Question: How does grazing intensity affect plant density, cover and species richness in an Patagonian arid ecosystem? Location: Monte steppe ecoregion, SW Argentina. Methods: I analysed the effect of grazing on plant density, cover and species richness using a stocking rate gradient within the same habitat. Six paddocks were used with stocking rates ranging between 0.002 – 0.038 livestock/ha. Plant density, species richness, plant cover and percentage of grazed branches were determined by sampling plots within each paddock. The percentage of grazed branches was used as an independent measurement of grazing intensity. Results: Higher stocking rates were related to lower plant density, species richness and plant cover. The paddock with the lowest grazing intensity had 86% more plants per unit area, 63% more plant cover and 48% higher species richness. The percentage of grazed branches and the quantity of dung increased with stocking rate. Conclusions: Introduced livestock seriously affect native vegetation in the Patagonian Monte. The damage observed in this xerophytic plant community suggests that plant adaptations to aridity do not provide an advantage to tolerate or avoid grazing by vertebrate herbivores in this region. Plant degradation in this arid environment is comparable to the degradation found in more humid ecosystems.  相似文献

在大田高产条件下,研究了同一密度下不同种植方式对花生田间小气候效应及产量的影响.结果表明:增大行距和采用大小行种植方式有利于增加田间透光率,提高冠层空气温度与地表温度,降低田间相对湿度,提高田间CO2浓度,提高群体光合速率,进而增加荚果产量.但是行距过大,导致各种环境资源的浪费.采用大行距55cm小行距35cm的大小行种植方式是比较合理的种植方式.  相似文献

The polyphagous larvae of click beetles (Coleoptera: Elateridae) are major pests of spring wheat in Montana, USA. Presently available insecticides are unable to provide control over wireworm populations, and the use of natural enemies has not been successful under field conditions. In this study, we examined the effect of seven trap crops: pea, lentil, canola, corn, durum, barley, and wheat, for their attractiveness to wireworms compared to spring wheat. Experimental plots were located in two commercial grain fields in Valier and Ledger, Montana, USA and the trials took place from May to August in 2015 and 2016. Wheat plants damaged by wireworms were recorded and their relative locations in wheat rows and adjacent trap crop rows within a plot were determined using destructive soil samples. In 2016, variable row spacing (0.25, 0.5, 0.75, and 1 m) between the trap crops (pea and lentil) and wheat was assessed. Shade house bioassays were conducted using potted pea, lentil, and wheat plants to support field trial results. Limonius californicus larvae, released at the center of each pot were sampled 4 and 10 days after sowing. Wheat intercropped with pea and lentil had significantly fewer damaged wheat plants. Wireworm numbers were lower in wheat intercropped with pea compared to the control for both locations and years. Shade house results corresponded with field results, with more wireworms collected from pea and lentil than wheat. In the spacing trials, wheat plant counts were also significantly higher when paired with pea and lentil, particularly at 0.5 m spacing. Regardless of inter-row spacing, significantly fewer wireworms were associated with wheat when intercropped with pea and lentil trap crops.  相似文献

Summary Total denitrification (N2O+N2) and nitrous oxide emission were measured on intact soil cores using the acetylene inhibition technique.Total denitrification from the depth 0–8 cm during the growth period from April to August was 7 kg N/ha from plots supplied with 30 kg N/ha and 19 kg N/ha from plots supplied with 120 kg N/ha. The amounts of precipitation, plant growth, and N application were found to affect the denitrification rate. These factors also affected the ratio (N2O+N2)/N2O, which varied from 1.0 to 7.2. Plant growth and precipitation increased the proportion of N2 produced, whereas a high nitrate content increased the proportion of N2O.  相似文献

An experiment to evaluate the control of soybean cyst nematodes compared 1-year, 2-year, and 3-year nonhost rotations with continuous soybeans (Glycine max) in 0.2-ha plots. In a second 1-year rotation, the plots were planted to soybean or corn (Zea mays) after fumigation in the spring with a split application of 1,3-dichloropropene (748.2 liters/ha). The effects of the nematicide were apparent the first year. Soybean yield was 1,482 kg/ha compared to 233 kg/ha in the untreated plots. In the second year, the highest yielding plants (2,035 kg/ha) were those following 1 year of corn that had been treated the previous year; plants in untreated plots yielded 288 kg/ha. Average yield of soybean following 1 year of corn was 957 kg/ha compared to 288 kg/ha for continuous soybean. In the third year, the effects of the nematicide were still evident. Soybean plants in plots treated the first year, followed by corn, then soybean, yielded 1,044 kg/ha compared to 761 kg/ ha for soybean following 1 year of corn and 991 kg/ha for soybean following 2 years of corn. Plots planted to soybean for 3 consecutive years yielded 337 kg/ha. Nematicidal effects were no longer evident during the fourth year. Yields were most improved by the greatest number of years in the nonhost crop; highest yields in descending order were from plants following 3 years of corn, 2 years of corn, and 1 year of corn. Plots planted to soybean for 4 consecutive years yielded 130 kg/ha. Highly significant negative correlations occurred each year between initial nematode population densities and seed yield.  相似文献

Inter-species competition for applied nutrients may be managed by weed control in cultivated communities. However, intra-crop competition may still occur. Thus, regarding a fertilizer band as a finite nutrient source, individual rows of a cereal crop may compete for the applied nitrogen. The aim was to explore the partition of applied N between crop rows affected by the displacement of the fertilizer band relative to the rows. In a micro-plot experiment, a 15N-ammonium–15N-nitrate solution was injected in four positions parallel to two rows of spring wheat (Triticum aestivum ssp. vulgare). The course of 15N crop uptake in each row was estimated by a sigmoid growth function using eight samplings during the elongation phase. The estimated parameters were used for calculating the asymptotic value (a), the time until a/2 was reached (T0.5a), and the uptake rate at this time (MaxRate), and related to the distance between the crop row and fertilizer band. The a-value decreased by 5.1%-point recovery cm–1, T0.5a increased by 0.5 day cm–1 and the MaxRate decreased by 0.3%-point recovery day–1 cm–1. Placement of the fertilizer band centred between two crop rows caused an even access to the applied nitrogen, but a parallel displacement from the centre by a few centimetres significantly affected the parameters. The proliferation of the roots in the soil and thus the time until the roots reached the fertilizer zone is assumed to cause the inter-row competition for the band-injected N source. The access to the fertilizer band was clearly reflected in the dry matter production causing an uneven crop stand. The consequences of inter-row crop competition for a band-injected N source with respect to grain yield and grain quality were not explored, but attention on these parameters are required, particularly in the production of high quality wheat grains.  相似文献

To evaluate the effect of different herbicides for controlling weeds in wheat (variety Fakhr-i-Sarhad),at higher attitude, an experiment was conducted at Agriculture Research Station, Chitral during Rabi season 2003-04, using Randomized Complete Block Design, keeping four replications. The experiment, sown in November comprised of eight treatments, viz; seven herbicides and a weedy check. Each treatment consisted of 5 rows each 30 cm apart and 5 m long thus giving a total size of 5 m x 1.5 m. The herbicides used included; terbutryn + triasulfuron at 0.16 kg, 2,4-D at 0.7 kg, fenoxaprop-P-ethyl at 0.93 kg, clodinafop at 0.05 kg, bromoxynil + MCPA at 0.49 kg, carfentrazon-ethyl at 0.02 kg and isoproturon at 1.0 kg a.i ha(-1). The data were recorded on weed kill efficiency (%), fresh weed biomass (kg ha(-1)), plant height (cm), spike length (cm), number of tillers m(-2), number of grains spike(-1), thousand grains weight (g), biological yield (kg ha(-1)), grain yield (kg ha(-1)) and harvest index (%). The data recorded on weed kill efficiency, weed biomass (kg ha1), grains yield (kg ha(-1)) and harvest index (%) were significantly affected by the different herbicidal treatments. Statistically isoproturon treatment exhibited the best performance, with maximum weed kill efficiency (48.26%) and minimum fresh weed biomass (433.3 kg ha(-1)) as compared to weedy check (6 %) and (1102 kg ha(-1)), respectively. Similarly, the spike length (8.34 cm), number of tillers (427 m(-2)), number of grains spike(-1) (38.0), thousand grains weight (39.85 g), biological yield (8475 kg ha(-1)), grain yield (2530 kg ha(-1)) and harvest index (31.3%) were the highest in isoproturon treatments as compared to weedy check having (7.64 cm), (356 m(-2)), (34.1), (37.12 g), (6858 kg), (1913 kg ha(-1)) and (27%), respectively.  相似文献
