Different responses of photosystem I and II to chilling.

Abstract

Tropical crops are sensitive to chilling stress, but the underlying physiological mechanisms are unclear. We investigated the maximum quantum yield of PSII (F v/F m), the maximum photo-oxidizable P700 (P m), the energy distribution in PSII, and the redox state of P700 in leaves of seedlings of three promising oilseed crops originating from tropical regions, Plukenetia volubilis, Jatropha curcas and Ricinus communis, during chilling treatment and subsequent recovery under a photon flux density of 450 μmol m?2 s?1. Our results showed that F v/F m decreased progressively and significantly to about 44.7, 62.2 and 77.0 % of the control after chilling treatment for 3 days in P. volubilis, J. curcas and R. communis, respectively, mainly due to the decrease in F m (maximum fluorescence of PSII). After recovery under 18 °C for 6 days, F v/F m recovered to 81.4 and 94.9 % of the control in J. curcas and R. communis, but only to 26.3 % in P. volubilis. Under chilling stress and subsequent recovery, P m remained stable in J. curcas and R. communis, whereas it decreased slightly in P. volubilis. These results indicated that PSII was more sensitive to chilling stress than PSI under moderate light for all three species, and that P. volubilis was the most susceptible. Cyclic electron flow around PSI and effective quantum yield of photosystem II [Y (CEF)/Y (II)] ratio were stimulated much more in J. curcas and R. communis compared with that in P. volubilis under chilling conditions, resulting in more severe injury as indicated by higher accumulation of hydrogen peroxide and malondialdehyde. There was a significantly negative relationship between F v/F m and Y (CEF)/Y (II), suggesting that stimulation of Y (CEF)/Y (II) plays a pivotal role in protecting PSI and PSII from photoinhibition caused by chilling stress.  相似文献

Heat stress impacts the quantity and quality of rice grains, particularly during grain-filling stage needed for grain development. In this study, the effect of short heat stress (42 °C, 30 min) on indica rice plants at the grain-filling stage (dough grain stage) was found by determining their physiological and growth traits Fv/Fm, ?F/Fm′, chlorophyll content, leaf water potential (LWP), membrane stability, relative leaf area (RLA), relative plant height (RPH), total grain weight per panicle (TGW) and 1000 GW. Thai economic rice cvs. KDML105 and Pathumthani 1 (PTT1) were compared to the heat-tolerant rice cultivars N22 and Dular and to the heat-sensitive rice cultivar IR64. The results showed that short heat stress exhibited effects on physiology and growth greater than the control (35 °C, 30 min) by reducing of Fv/Fm, ?F/Fm′, chlorophyll content, LWP, membrane stability and RLA. This result impacted the TGW and 1000 GW. A higher reduction of physiological traits was shown in IR64, followed by KDML105. In contrast, N22 and Dular were minimally affected by heat stress and were able to adapt and recover based on their grain weight that exhibited less of an effect. PTT1 was also impacted by heat stress similarly to Dular. Thus, short heat stress affected the physiological parameters of five rice cultivars at the dough grain stage. In addition, the five indica rice cultivars were classified into three groups: (1) the heat-tolerant group (N22, Dular and PTT1), (2) the moderately heat-tolerant group (KDML105), and (3) the heat-sensitive group (IR64) by PC-ORD program at 50% of similarity of the 13 physiological traits.  相似文献

The aim of the present work was to explore physiological changes provoked by somaclonal variation in response to salinity. Two parental cultivars (La Candelaria and Yerua) and their derived somaclones were used as a source for breeding new rice lines with improved salt tolerance. We studied the effect of NaCl salt stress on chlorophyll fluorescence-related parameters, such as the maximum quantum yield of primary PSII photochemistry (F v/F m) and the performance index for energy conservation from photon absorbed by PSII antenna (PIABS). In addition malondialdehyde (MDA) content and leaf temperature (LT) responses were also measured. In somaclonal lines, F v/F m, PIABS, MDA and LT showed coefficients of variation of 13.7, 39.3, 25.5, and 3 %, respectively, for La Candelaria and 1.4, 17.6, 34.4 and 3 % for Yerua. However, the fragrant character did not differ in the aromatic somaclonal lines with respect to their parentals. Our results suggest that the F v/F m ratio would not be as good marker of PSII vitality as PIABS for salinized rice somaclones, unless they are highly susceptible to salinity. On other hand, the MDA content showed a strong negative correlation with the PIABS content in somaclones of both rice cultivars, suggesting that MDA levels could also be used as an oxidative damage index in rice somaclones.  相似文献

Background and aims

Nitrogen (N) deficiency and drought are two key limiting factors for rice production worldwide, but the relationship of drought stress with N homeostasis in rice is rarely advanced. The aim of this study was to dissect the physiological effects of drought stress on rice growth that coupled unbalanced N metabolism.

Results

Water-deficient stress (WD) limited stomatal aperture function and activity of Rubisco carboxylase to photosynthesis. The rate of total electron transport (Jt) and the electron to carboxylation (Jc) were considerably decreased, whereas the proportion of e? flow to photorespiration was stimulated by WD, especially at 1600 μmol m?2 s?1 PPFD. Concurrently, the expressions of glycolate oxidase genes (GOX1, GOX5) and glycine decarboxylase complex (GDCH, GDCP and GDCT) were significantly induced in leaves of WD treatment, which led to the accumulation of reactive oxygen species in leaves. With the photosynthetic change, nitrate uptake and reduction were suppressed. Moreover, the enhanced photorespiration generated excess NH3 accumulation in leaves and stimulated the expressions of GS1;1, GS1;2 and GS2, which were tightly coupled with the expressions of PEPC1 and PEPC2 under WD stress.

Conclusions

Our results suggest that the inhibited nitrate reduction associated with diminished electron transport rate, and the photorespiration-associated accumulation of hydrogen peroxide and NH3 were critical in the drought-induced rice growth inhibition.

Defoliation occurs in castor due to several reasons, but the crop has propensity to compensate for the seed yield. Photosynthetic efficiency in terms of functional (gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence) and structural characteristics (photosynthetic pigment profiles and anatomical properties) of castor capsule walls under light- and dark-adapted conditions was compared with that of leaves. Capsule wall showed high intrinsic efficiency of photosystem II (F v/F m, 0.82) which was comparable to leaves (F v/F m, 0.80). With increasing photon flux densities (PFD), actual quantum yields and photochemical quenching coefficients of the capsule walls were similar to that in leaves, while electron transport rates reached a maximum corresponding to about 118 % of the leaves. However, maximum net photosynthetic rate of the capsule walls (2.60 µmol CO2 m?2 s?1) was less than one-fourth of the leaves (15.67 µmol CO2 m?2 s?1) at the CO2 concentration of 400 µmol mol?1, and the difference was attributed to about 80 % lower stomatal density and the 75 % lower total chlorophyll content of capsule walls than the leaves. Furthermore, seed weight in dark-adapted capsules was 2.70–12.42 % less as compared to the capsules developed under light. The results indicate that castor capsule walls are photosynthetically active (about 15–30 % of the leaves) and contribute significantly to carbon fixation and seed yield accounting for 10 % photoassimilates towards seed weight.  相似文献

Sequence analysis and genetic mapping revealed that a 1,444 bp deletion causes a premature stop codon in SbBADH2 of sorghum IS19912. The non-function of SbBADH2 is responsible for fragrance in sorghum IS19912.

Abstract

2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (2AP) is a potent volatile compound causing fragrance in several plants and foods. Seeds of some varieties of rice, sorghum and soybean possess fragrance. The genes responsible for fragrance in rice and soybean are orthologs that correspond to betaine aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (BADH2). Genotypes harboring fragrance in rice and soybean contain a premature stop codon in BADH2 which impairs the synthesis of full length functional BADH2 protein leading to the accumulation of 2AP. In this study, we reported an association between the BADH2 gene and fragrance in sorghum. An F2 population of 187 plants developed from a cross between KU630 (non-fragrant) and IS19912 (fragrant) was used. Leaves of F2 and F3 progenies were evaluated for fragrance by organoleptic test, while seeds of F2 plants were analyzed for 2AP. The tests consistently showed that the fragrance is controlled by a single recessive gene. Gene expression analysis of SbBADH1 and SbBADH2 in leaves of KU630 and IS19912 at various stages revealed that SbBADH1 and SbBADH2 were expressed in both accessions. Sequence comparison between KU630 and IS19912 revealed a continuous 1,444 bp deletion encompassing exon 12 to 15 of SbBADH2 in IS19912 which introduces a frameshift mutation and thus causes a premature stop codon. An indel marker was developed to detect polymorphism in SbBADH2. Bulk segregant and QTL analyses confirmed the association between SbBADH2 and fragrance.  相似文献

Aims

Responses of typical wetland plant Acorus tatarinowii to diesel stress were investigated to provide basis of ecological monitoring system and phytoremediation for diesel-contaminated wetland.

Methods

Greenhouse experiments were established to determine the germinability of seedlings, hydrogen peroxide in leaves, and DNA damage in roots exposed to a range of potentially phytotoxic diesel.

Results

The presence of diesel did not benefit the growth of A. tatarinowii. The germination ratio and germination rate decreased with the increase of diesel concentration, both the lowest value appeared when the concentration of diesel was 10,000 mg?kg?1. The lowest diesel concentration (2,000 mg?kg?1) in the soil significantly reduced the length, average diameter, and projected area of root, especially on the stress of the higher diesel concentration (4,000, 8,000, and 10,000 mg?kg?1). Furthermore, H2O2 concentration in leaves rose with the increasing concentration of diesel. However, no DNA oxidative damage to root was observed in our experiment.

Conclusions

Diesel exposure significantly inhabited the seed germination, root elongation, and seedlings growth of A. tatarinowii. Diesel stress caused the accumulation of H2O2 in the leaves of A. tatarinowii.  相似文献

Background and Aims

Plant growth-promoting bacteria, mainly diazotrophs and phosphate solubilizers, can reduce the use of chemical fertilizers for rice crops. Here, diazotrophic bacteria isolated from rice were screened for their ability to solubilize inorganic P (Pi) in vitro and in association with rice plants cultivated in pots.

Methods

Forty-nine isolates were tested for the ability to solubilize Pi on NBRIP and GL agar plate media and seven selected strains were further evaluated in NBRIP liquid medium. Three of these strains were inoculated in rice plants grown in soil pots containing 15N-labeled fertilizer and two sources of P: tricalcium phosphate (TCP) or simple superphosphate (SSP). The dry matter, yield, N, P, and the 15N content accumulated in plant tissues were measured at 135 days after planting.

Results

Seven strains belonging to the genera Herbaspirillum and Burkholderia formed a halo of solubilized Pi on agar plates. The Burkholderia strains showed peak soluble P (around 200 mg P L?1) on the fifth day when grown in NBRIP liquid medium for 14 days. Inoculation of Herbaspirillum strains (H18, ZA15) and a Burkholderia vietaminensis strain (AR114) increased rice grain yield from 33 to 47 % with TCP and 18 to 44 % with TSS, respectively. The bacterial inoculation led to enhanced N-use efficiency of the 15N-labeled fertilizer.

Conclusion

These results suggest that the selection and use of P-solubilizing diazotrophic bacteria are a good strategy to promote P solubilization and/or N use efficiency in rice plants.  相似文献

Nitrogen (N) is the key factor limiting photosynthetic processes and crop yield. Little is known about the response of leaf gas exchange of spring triticale (Triticosecale Wittm.) to N supply. The effect of N fertilizers on different gas exchange variables, i.e., photosynthetic rate (A), transpiration rate (E), stomatal conductance (g s), instantaneous water use efficiency (WUE) and maximum quantum yield of photosystem II (PSII) (F v/F m), chlorophyll index (SPAD, soil–plant analysis development), and the relationship of these variables with yield were studied in spring triticale grown under field conditions. Six treatments of N—0, 90, 180, 90 + 30, 90 + 30 + 30 kg ha?1 (applied as ammonium nitrate, AN) and one treatment of N 90 + 30 + 30 kg ha?1 (applied as urea ammonium nitrate solution, UAN) were compared. The analysis of variance showed that throughout the triticale growing season, N fertilization had significant effects on A, WUE, g s and SPAD. On average, N fertilizer application increased A values by 14–70%. E and F v/F m values were not influenced by N fertilization levels. The effect of growth stage and year on gas exchange variables and F v/F m and SPAD was found to be significant. At different growth stages, A values varied and maximum ones were reached at BBCH 31–33 (decimal code system of growth stages) and BBCH 59. With aging, values of A decreased independently of N fertilization level. The gas exchange variables were equally affected by both fertilizer forms. The interplay among grain yield, leaf gas exchange variables, F v/F m and SPAD of spring triticale was estimated. The statistical analysis showed that grain yield positively and significantly correlated with A and SPAD values throughout the growing season.  相似文献

The critical level for SO 2 susceptibility of Populus × canescens is approximately 1.2 μL L ?1 SO 2 . Both sulfite oxidation and sulfite reduction and assimilation contribute to SO 2 detoxification.

Abstract

In the present study, uptake, susceptibility and metabolism of SO2 were analyzed in the deciduous tree species poplar (Populus × canescens). A particular focus was on the significance of sulfite oxidase (SO) for sulfite detoxification, as SO has been characterized as a safety valve for SO2 detoxification in herbaceous plants. For this purpose, poplar plants were exposed to different levels of SO2 (0.65, 0.8, 1.0, 1.2 μL L?1) and were characterized by visible injuries and at the physiological level. Gas exchange parameters (stomatal conductance for water vapor, CO2 assimilation, SO2 uptake) of the shoots were compared with metabolite levels (sulfate, thiols) and enzyme activities [SO, adenosine 5′-phosphosulfate reductase (APR)] in expanding leaves (80–90 % expanded). The critical dosage of SO2 that confers injury to the leaves was 1.2 μL L?1 SO2. The observed increase in sulfur containing compounds (sulfate and thiols) in the expanding leaves strongly correlated with total SO2 uptake of the plant shoot, whereas SO2 uptake rate was strongly correlated with stomatal conductance for water vapor. Furthermore, exposure to high concentration of SO2 revealed channeling of sulfite through assimilatory sulfate reduction that contributes in addition to SO-mediated sulfite oxidation to sulfite detoxification in expanding leaves of this woody plant species.  相似文献

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) can promote plant growth performance, but their effectiveness varies depending on soil nitrogen (N) availability. To clarify the effectiveness of exogenous AMF along an N-fertilization gradient (0, 2, 10, 20, and 30 mM), the impacts of exogenous Rhizophagus irregularis and N on the growth, photochemical activity, and nutritional status of Populus?×?canadensis ‘Neva’ in natural soil were evaluated in a pot experiment. The results showed that the 10 mM N level was the optimal fertilization regime with the highest promotion effect on plant growth and the maximum quantum yield of photosystem II (PSII) (Fv/Fm). Excess N (20 and 30 mM) fertilization reduced the actual quantum yield of PSII (ФPSII) and the Fv/Fm of the plants. Regardless of the N availability, inoculated plants exhibited greater Fv/Fm values than did non-inoculated plants. The biomass of inoculated plants was significantly higher compared with the control under low N levels (0 and 2 mM). Under high N levels, inoculated plants showed significant increases in ФPSII. Moreover, the nutrient imbalance of plants inoculated with exogenous R. irregularis was eased by increasing P, Fe, Mn and Cu uptake in roots and higher P, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn and Zn concentrations in leaves. Moreover, the Fv/Fm and ФPSII exhibited positive correlations with P, Ca, Mg and Zn concentrations in leaves. In conclusion, inoculation with exogenous R. irregularis can benefit plant fitness by improving the photochemical capacity and nutrient composition of poplar under different N levels.  相似文献

Background and aims

Iron toxicity decreases rice (Oryza sativa) grain yield especially in acid soils after flooding. Our aim was to establish a high-throughput screening technique using nutrient solution culture for identifying Fe-toxicity-tolerant genotypes.

Methods

Varying levels of Fe, pH, and chelators in Yoshida nutrient solution culture were tested to maintain sufficient Fe2+ concentration over time to optimize the severity of Fe toxicity stress for distinguishing between a tolerant (Azucena) and sensitive (IR64) genotype. The optimized solution was tested on 20 diverse genotypes in the greenhouse, with measurement of leaf bronzing scores and plant growth characteristics at the seedling stage. The same 20 genotypes were grown to maturity in a field with natural Fe toxicity stress, with measurement of seedling-stage leaf bronzing scores and grain yield to determine their inter-relationship.

Results

Optimized nutrient solution conditions were 300 mg L?1 Fe supplied as Fe2+ at pH 4.0 with a 1:2 molar ratio of Fe:EDTA, which maintained sufficient Fe2+ stress over 5 days. The highest correlation of nutrient solution phenotypic data with field grain yield was found with leaf bronzing scores at 4 weeks, with a Pearson r of 0.628 for simple association and a Spearman corrected r of 0.610 for rank association (P?<?0.01) using 20 diverse rice genotypes with proven Fe toxicity tolerance reaction. The Leaf bronzing scores at 4 weeks in nutrient culture solution were also found highly correlated with LBS under natural field stress after 8 weeks that had highest correlation with grain yield under stress.

Conclusion

This culture solution-based standardized screening technique can be used in plant breeding programs as a high-throughput technique to identify genotypes tolerant to Fe toxicity.  相似文献

Cadmium contamination is a critical constraint to plant production in agricultural soils in some regions. Cerium is one of the rare earth elements, it plays a positive role in plant growth with a appropriate content. The present study was conducted to examine the role of cerium nutrition in the amelioration of effects on cadmium toxicity in rice (Oryza sativa L.) seedlings by a hydroponic experiment. Measurements included growth condition, photosynthesis related parameters, chloroplast ultra-structure and antioxidant enzymes content. Our results showed that the growth of rice seedlings was markedly inhibited by cadmium (100 μM), and the inhibition was significantly alleviated by cerium (10 μM). Fresh weight, single seedling height and chlorophyll content of rice plants in cerium treated groups were increased by 24.4, 18.2 and 32.05 % compared to those of plants cultivated in only cadmium-present condition. Additionally, in cadmium treated plants, the addition of cerium significantly increased the value of the maximum quantum yield of primary photochemistry (F v /F m ), indicator of PSII ‘structure and functioning’ (SFI ABS ) and the performance index on absorption basis (PI ABS ), elevated the activity of whole chain electron transport activity, enhanced photophosphorylation and its coupling factor Ca2+-ATPase activities. The result showed that the chloroplasts and thylakoid membrane of the rice seedlings leaves grown in cerium treatment developed better than that in cerium-absent group under cadmium toxicity. Moreover, addition with 10 μM cerium mitigated cadmium stress by inducing leaf enzyme activities for antioxidation like superoxide dismutase, peroxidase and catalase, dramatically depressed superoxide (O 2 ·? ), hydrogen peroxide and malondialdehyde accumulation. Results indicated that alleviation of cadmium toxicity by cerium application is partly related to improved light-use-efficiency, increased antioxidant enzymes, decreased oxidative stress in rice seedlings.  相似文献

The phytotoxic aluminum species (Al3+) is considered as the primary factor limiting crop productivity in over 40 % of world’s arable land that is acidic. We evaluated the responses of two wheat cultivars (Triticum aestivum L.) with differential Al resistance, cv. Yecora E (Al-resistant) and cv. Dio (Al-sensitive), exposed to 0, 37, 74 and 148 μM Al for 14 days in hydroponic culture at pH 4.5. With increasing Al concentration, leaf Ca2+ and Mg2+ content decreased, as well as the effective quantum yield of photosystem II (PSII) photochemistry (Φ PSII ), while a gradual increase in leaf membrane lipid peroxidation, Al accumulation, photoinhibition (estimated as F v /F m ), and PSII excitation pressure (1 ? q p ) occurred. However, the Al-resistant cultivar with lower Al accumulation, retained larger concentrations of Ca2+ and Mg2+ in the leaves and kept a larger fraction of the PSII reaction centres (RCs) in an open configuration, i.e. a higher ratio of oxidized to reduced quinone A (QA), than plants of the Al-sensitive cultivar. Four times higher Al concentration in the nutrient solution was required for Al-resistant plants (148 μM Al) than for Al-sensitive (37 μM Al), in order to establish the same closed RCs. Yet, the decline in photosynthetic efficiency in the cultivar Dio was not only due to closure of PSII RCs but also to a decrease in the quantum yield of the open RCs. We suggest that Al3+ toxicity may be mediated by nutrient deficiency and oxidative stress, and that Al-resistance of the wheat cultivar Yecora E, may be due at least partially, from the decreased Al accumulation that resulted to decreased reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation. However, under equal internal Al accumulation (exposure Al concentration: Dio 74 μM, Yecora E 148 μM) that resulted to the same oxidative stress, the reduced PSII excitation pressure and the better PSII functioning of the Al-resistant cultivar was probably due to the larger concentrations of Ca2+ and Mg2+ in the leaves. We propose that the different sensitivities of wheat cultivars to Al3+ toxicity can be correlated to differences in the redox state of QA. Thus, chlorophyll fluorescence measurements can be a promising tool for rapid screening of Al resistance in wheat cultivars.  相似文献

We obtained interesting results for genetic analysis and molecular mapping of the du12(t) gene.

Abstract

Control of the amylose content in rice is the major strategy for breeding rice with improved quality. In this study, we conducted genetic analysis and molecular mapping to identify the dull gene in the dull rice, Milyang262. A single recessive gene, tentatively designated as du12(t), was identified as the dull gene that leads to the low amylose character of Milyang262. To investigate the inheritance of du12(t), genetic analysis on an F2 population derived from a cross between the gene carrier, Milyang262, and a moderate amylose content variety, Junam, was conducted. A segregation ratio of 3:1 (χ 2 = 1.71, p = 0.19) was observed, suggesting that du12(t) is a single recessive factor that controls the dull character in Milyang262. Allelism tests confirmed that du12(t) is not allelic to other low amylose controlling genes, wx or du1. Recessive class analysis was performed to localize the du12(t) locus. Mapping of du12(t) was conducted on F2 and F3 populations of Baegokchal/Milyang262 cross. Linkage analysis of 120 F2 plants revealed that RM6926 and RM3509 flank du12(t) at a 2.38-Mb region. To refine the du12(t) locus position, 986 F2 and 289 F3 additional normal plants were screened by the flanking markers. Twenty-six recombinant plants were identified and later genotyped with four additional adjacent markers located between RM6926 and RM3509. Finally, du12(t) was mapped to an 840-kb region on the distal region of the long arm of chromosome 6, delimited by SSR markers RM20662 and RM412, and co-segregated by RM3765 and RM176.  相似文献

A minor QTL for heading date located on the long arm of rice chromosome 1 was delimitated to a 95.0-kb region using near isogenic lines with sequential segregating regions.

Abstract

Heading date and grain yield are two key factors determining the commercial potential of a rice variety. In this study, rice populations with sequential segregating regions were developed and used for mapping a minor QTL for heading date, qHd1. A total of 18 populations in six advanced generations through BC2F6 to BC2F11 were derived from a single BC2F3 plant of the indica rice cross Zhenshan 97 (ZS97)///ZS97//ZS97/Milyang 46. The QTL was delimitated to a 95.0-kb region flanked by RM12102 and RM12108 in the terminal region of the long arm of chromosome 1. Results also showed that qHd1 was not involved in the photoperiodic response, having an additive effect ranging from 2.4 d to 2.9 d observed in near isogenic lines grown in the paddy field and under the controlled conditions of either short day or long day. The QTL had pleiotropic effects on yield traits, with the ZS97 allele delaying heading and increasing the number of spikelets per panicle, the number of grains per panicle and grain yield per plant. The candidate region contains ten annotated genes including two genes with functional information related to the control of heading date. These results lay a foundation for the cloning of qHd1. In addition, this kind of minor QTLs could be of great significance in rice breeding for allowing minor adjustment of heading date and yield traits.  相似文献

Water stress is a primary limitation on plant growth. In previous studies, it has been found that ammonium enhances the tolerance of rice plants to water stress, but how water is related to nitrogen form and water stress remains unknown. To study the effects of nitrogen form (NH 4 + , NO 3 ? , and a mixture of NH 4 + and NO 3 ? ) on the growth and water absorption of rice (Oryza sativa L.) seedlings, a hydroponic experiment with water stress, simulated by the addition of polyethylene glycol (PEG, 10% w/v, MW 6000), was conducted in a greenhouse. The results showed that, compared with non-water stress, under water stress, the fresh weight of rice seedlings increased by 14% with NH 4 + nutrition, whereas it had decreased by about 20% with either NO 3 ? or mixed nitrogen nutrition. No significant difference was found in the transpiration rate of excised shoots or in xylem exudation of excised roots in NH 4 + supply between the two water situations, whereas xylem flow decreased by 57% and 24% under water stress in NO 3 ? and mixed nutrition, and root hydraulic conductivity decreased by 29% and 54% in plants in NH 4 + and NO 3 ? nutrition conditions, respectively. Although water absorption ability decreased in both NH 4 + and NO 3 ? nutrition, aquaporin activity was higher in NH 4 + than in NO 3 ? nutrition, regardless of water stress. We conclude that NH 4 + nutrition can improve water handling in rice seedlings and subsequently enhance their resistance to drought.  相似文献
