A total of 21 flavonoid compounds has been detected in 14 species of Crambe. In general, both the sections of the genus and the species can be distinguished easily by their flavonoid patterns. The members of Crambe sections Crambe and Dendrocrambe seem to be the most primitive with their perennial or rhizocarpous habit. They show a diversity of flavonol glycosides, derived from either kaempferol or quercetin. The presumed presence of proanthocyanidins confers an additional primitive character to Crambe section Dendrocrambe. In contrast, members of Crambe section Leptocrambe show a relatively poor pattern where the quercetin glycosides have disappeared. In the case of C. hispanica and C. abyssinica flavonols are completely absent while two flavones, luteolin and apigenin appear in glycosidic form; these are probably the most evolved Crambe species and exhibit an annual habit. A dendrogram exclusively based on data of the presence or absence of flavonoids has been constructed. It is similar to the one that could have been expected from use of morphological data alone, but it does provide some hints on the possible phylogenetic relationships between the species. Flavonoid evidence also supports the hypothesis on an east-west Mediterranean disjunction within the genus. 相似文献

A new species of Betulaceae, Betula fujianensis , is described and illustrated from Luoboyan Reserve, Fujian Province, south-eastern China. Betula fujianensis is distributed in subtropical evergreen and deciduous broad-leaved mixed forest at elevations above 500 m, mostly as scattered individuals and occasionally as populations alone or with B. luminifera . Betula fujianensis belongs to section Betulaster and differs from other species in general morphology and phenology. A key to all species currently recognized in this section is presented, and the relationships between the new species and its closely related taxa are discussed. © 2008 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2008, 156 , 523–528. 相似文献

Although Curcuma L. (Zingiberaceae) is a conserved name, with C. longa L. as its conserved type, the type of C. longa is still uncertain. Numerous discussions about the identity of the taxon called C. longa by Linnaeus have been followed by various attempts to rename turmeric, suggestions as how to settle the type and proposals to conserve the name from a later author in order to stabilize the situation. Unfortunately, none of the previous proposals can be upheld for reasons which are discussed in this article. A lectotype is selected from extant material examined by Linnaeus and an epitype collected near the type locality is designated here. The identity of C. longa is discussed and a colour plate of the species is included. Synonyms of C. longa and their types are discussed and notes on the variability of C. longa are provided. © 2008 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2008, 157 , 37–46. 相似文献

The pollen morphology and exine structure of 10 Mentha L . species were investigated using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The pollen grains of all 11 species were hexazonocolpate with granular membranes and a circular amb, varying in shape from prolate-spheroidal to suboblate. Different colpus shapes were recognized in M . × dumetorum . The exine was bireticulate in section Pulegium , and reticulate in section Menthae . A correlation was found between pollen size and chromosome number. The results indicate that the pollen characters of the genus Mentha are valuable for taxonomic applications and may be useful for classification. © 2008 Uludag University. Begonia gigabracteata H.Z. Li & H. Ma sp. nov. ( Begonia section Diploclinium , Begoniaceae) is described and illustrated from North Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, south-west China. Its chromosome number (2 n = 30) and pollen and seed micromorphology are reported. This species grows in ravines on damp or slightly moist limestone. It is morphologically similar to B. summoglabra T.T. Yü (section Reichenheimia ) and B. labordei H. Lél. (section Diploclinium ). However, it differs by its sparse glandular hairs, number of perianth segments, colour of venation on the abaxial blade, and unique heteromorphous bracts. A line drawing and plate of B. gigabracteata and a photograph of the type of B. summoglabra are presented as an aid to identification. © 2008 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2008, 157 , 83–90. 相似文献

The species formerly recognized as Teucrium scorodonia in Madeira is here described as new: Teucrium francoi M. Seq., Capelo, J.C. Costa & R. Jardim. Morphologically close to species of Teucrium gr. scorodonia [ T. scorodonia L., T. pseudoscorodonia Desf., T. siculum (Raf.) Guss. and T. kotschyanum Poech], it exhibits, nonetheless, some distinct diagnostic characters. The indumentum density and type of hairs of T. francoi are clearly distinct from those of related species, as are the shape and dimensions of the leaves and bracts, calyx, and corolla, which are all taken as taxonomically significant diagnostic features. A diagnosis and a distribution map are presented for this new species. Morphology, ecology, biogeography, and conservation issues are discussed. Teucrium francoi , which is an endemic from Madeira (Portugal), is to be found mostly in the scope of the association Teucrio francoi–Origanetum virentis J.C. Costa, Capelo, Jardim, Sequeira, Lousã & Rivas-Martínez, but also occurs in somewhat humid habitats, such as open stands of Rosa mandonii Déségl. associated with small streams. © 2008 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2008, 156 , 639–647. 相似文献

A re-evaluation of Minuartia graminifolia has been undertaken based on comparative morphological studies. M. graminifolia subsp. rosani (an endemic of the south-central Apennines and Sicily) and subsp. hungarica (an endemic of the Banat region of Romania) are accepted infraspecific taxa. M. graminifolia subsp. hungarica is lectotypified. M. graminifolia subsp. clandestina is confirmed for Italy; the taxon is neotypified. The type subspecies is considered an endemic to the east-central Alps. Keys to the species of Minuartia ser. Graminifoliae and to the subspecies of M. graminifolia are provided. © 2003 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2003, 143 , 419–432. 相似文献

Elaphoglossum praetrepidans M. Kessler, characterized by long-creeping rhizomes with entire rhizome scales, ill-defined phyllopodia, linear-elliptic, firmly chartaceous blades lacking hydathodes, and ovate to lanceolate, basifixed to peltate, denticulate blade scales, is described based on a single specimen from lowland Bolivia. This combination of characters suggests affinity to Elaphoglossum section Lepidoglossa , but precludes placement in any of the established subsections within that section. © 2008 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2008, 157 , 165–167. 相似文献

Detailed quantitative comparisons confirm and extend the discrimination of four major morphotypes amongst brackens of Laurasian affinity in Central and North America. These are recognized here at subspecies level as: Pteridium aquilinum sspp. feei , pubescens , latiusculum , and pseudocaudatum . Measurements of spore size indicate that sporophytes of P. aquilinum ssp. feei are diploid (2 n = 104), as are sspp. pubescens , latiusculum , and pseudocaudatum . Phenetic cluster analysis based on DNA fingerprinting by arbitrarily primed polymerase chain reaction groups these four subspecies as genomically more similar to each other than to any taxa from other geographical regions. The chloroplast haplotype of ssp. feei is the same as that of sspp. latiusculum , pseudocaudatum , and pubescens with respect to the absence of both of the short direct repeats in the rps 4– trn S region (haplotype A), whereas the European ssp. aquilinum (haplotype B) has one of these repeats, and the Southern Hemisphere brackens P. arachnoideum and P. esculentum (haplotype C) have the other. © 2008 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2008, 157 , 1–17. 相似文献

As a result of recent fieldwork in north-east Morocco, a new woody Malvaceae species, Lavatera valdesii Molero & J.M. Monts., is described here. The morphological characters that link it to other species in Sect. Olbia (Medik.) DC. are discussed, as are those traditionally used in defining the species that make up this section. A recently described species of this group, Lavatera plazzae Atzei, is established here as a synonym of L. stenopetala Coss. & Durieu ex Batt., a species previously considered as an endemic of east Algeria. On the basis of morphological characters, we propose the exclusion of both L. thuringiaca and L. cashmiriana Cambess. from Sect. Olbia. © 2007 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2007, 153 , 445–454. 相似文献

Stomion is one of three speciose and taxonomically difficult genera of flightless Darwin's darkling beetles of the Galápagos Islands. The previously named species and subspecies of Stomion are analysed by morphometric and cladistic methods. Eleven species are here recognized, which probably descended from colonization by a single ancestral species. Cladistic analysis yielded two weakly supported clades that are different from previously published morphological and allozyme genotype groups. Phenotypic and genotypic characters may be evolving independently. There is much within-species variation, but there is no compelling evidence of adaptive radiation in Stomion , in contrast to that in the famous Darwin's finches. The analyses show the need for changes in morpho-species taxonomy: S. punctipennis Van Dyke ( syn. nov. ) is elevated to full species from a subspecies of S. galapagoensis Waterhouse. There is no evidence to support the validity of: S. laevigatum santacruzensi Franz ( syn. nov. ), synonomized here under S. l. laevigatum Waterhouse; S. galapagoensis leleupi Kaszab ( syn. nov. ), synonomized here under S. linelli Blair; S. galapagoensis pinzoni Franz ( syn. nov. ), synonomized here under S. obesum Van Dyke. S. genovesa sp. nov. is described from Genovesa Island. Lectotypes are designated for S. galapagoensis Waterhouse, S. laevigatum Waterhouse and S. helopoides Waterhouse . © 2004 The Linnean Society of London, Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society , 2004, 141 , 135–152. 相似文献

Klasea , traditionally treated as a section in Serratula , is now widely accepted at the generic level. A classification of the genus is presented here, accommodating the 46 species in ten sections based on nuclear ribosomal DNA external and internal transcribed spacer sequence data and morphology. New combinations for five species and ten subspecies are published, and a new hybrid species is described. The genus ranges from the Iberian Peninsula and north Africa through southern and eastern Europe, west and central Asia to the Himalayas, and the Far East of Russia and China. The ancestral area is in west Asia, most probably eastern Anatolia and northern and western Iran. In this region, representatives of all sections are present. The largest section Klasea diversified most likely in the mountains of central Asia. A key to all Klasea species is provided. © 2006 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2006, 152 , 435–464. 相似文献
