It is a reasonable expectation that voluntarily activated spinal motoneurons will be further excited by increases in spindle afferent activity produced by muscle stretch. Human motor behavior attributed to tonic stretch reflexes and to reflexes recruited by relatively slow joint rotation has been reported from several laboratories. We reinvestigated this issue by rotating the elbow joint over the central portion of its range while subjects focused on keeping their elbow flexion effort constant at one of three different levels and made no attempt to control the position, speed or direction of movement of their forearm. There is evidence that subjects' voluntary motor status is constant under these conditions so that any change in torque would be of involuntary origin. On average, torques rose somewhat and then fell as the elbow was flexed through a range of 80 degrees at 10, 20 and 60 degrees/s and a similar pattern occurred during elbow extension; i.e., both concentric and eccentric torque-angle profiles had roughly similar shapes and neither produced consistent stabilizing cross-range stiffness. The negative stiffness (rising torque) during the early part of a concentric movement and the negative stiffness (falling torque) during the later part of an eccentric movement would not have occurred if a stabilizing stretch reflex had been present. Positive stiffness rarely gave rise to torque changes greater than 20% in either individual or cross-subject averaged data. When angular regions of negative stiffness are combined with regions of low positive stiffness (torque change 10% or less), much of the range of motion was not well stabilized, especially during eccentric movements. The sum of the EMGs from biceps brachii, brachioradialis and brachialis showed a pattern opposite to that expected for a stretch reflex; there was an upward trend in the EMG as the elbow was flexed and a downward trend as the elbow was extended. There was little change in the shape of this EMG-angle relationship with either direction or velocity. The individual EMG-angle relationships were distinctive for each of these three elbow flexor muscles in four of the six subjects; in the remaining two, biceps was distinctive, but brachioradialis and brachialis appeared to be coupled. Although the EMGs of individual muscles were modulated over the angular range, no consistent stretch reflexes could be seen in the individual records. Thus, we could find no clear evidence for stretch reflex stabilization of human subjects maintaining a constant effort. Rather, muscle torque appears to be reflexly modulated across a much used portion of the elbow's angular range so that any appreciable stabilizing stiffness that is sustained for more than fractions of a second is associated with a change in effort.  相似文献

Stretch reflex responses of m. biceps brachii and m. brachioradialis of ten normal adults were studied before and after 20 days of strict bed rest. A standard torque perturbation (15 Nm, 170 ms) was applied to the forearm to induce reflex electromyographic (EMG) activities of the two muscles investigated. Totally 30 perturbations were applied during submaximal isometric elbow flexion movements at 80 deg flexed joint angle, and ensemble averaged EMG waveforms were calculated by aligning the signal to the onset of perturbations. All subjects showed that both short and long latency stretch reflex FMG activities of m. biceps brachii were reduced immediately after 20 days bed rest, and then recovered gradually to pre-bed rest levels at one- to two-months after bed rest, whereas there was no such variation in the stretch reflex induced in m. brachioradialis. It was demonstrated that the muscle stretch reflex gain might be reduced with long-term inactivity, but the effects on stretch reflex gains were different in the two tested muscles.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine in vivo moment arm lengths (MAs) of three elbow flexors at rest and during low- and relatively high-intensity contractions, and to examine the contraction intensity dependence of MAs at different joint positions. At 50°, 80° and 110° of elbow flexion, MAs of the biceps brachii, brachialis and brachioradialis were measured in 10 young men using sagittal images of the right arm obtained by magnetic resonance imaging, at rest and during 20% and 60% of isometric maximal voluntary elbow flexion. In most conditions, MAs increased with isometric contractions, which is presumably due to the contraction-induced thickening of the muscles. This phenomenon was especially evident in the flexed elbow positions. The influence of the contraction intensities on the increases in MAs varied across the muscles. These results suggest that in vivo measurements of each elbow flexor MA during contractions are essential to properly examine the effects on the interrelationships between elbow flexion torque and individual muscle forces.  相似文献

This study investigated the effect of changing internal mechanical variables and task demands on muscle activity and torque production during high effort isometric contractions of the elbow flexors. The effect of adding a 50% maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) of supination to an MVC of elbow flexion was studied over a range of angles from 30° to 110° of elbow flexion. Surface EMGs were recorded from the biceps brachii (BIC), brachioradialis (BRAD) and triceps brachii (TRI) of 10 healthy subjects. BIC was the only muscle to show a consistent trend of increasing root mean square (rms) EMG with increasing elbow flexion angle. BIC activity also remained constant or increased with the addition of the supination task at all angles. In contrast, BRAD showed decreased activity when supination was added at several angular positions. Maximal flexion torque was reduced when the second task of submaximal supination was added. This torque reduction was statistically significant at all angles except 70° and appeared related to the decreased contribution from BRAD. In a small subset of subjects, however, BRAD activity did not decrease when the second degrees of freedom (df) task was added. These subjects exhibited higher flexion torques averaged over task than the majority, at all angles except 30°. These data support the view that internal mechanical considerations influence the manner in which the central nervous system (CNS) distributes activity to muscular synergists in response to altered task demands. Further, subject-specific patterns exist which must be recognized if these findings are to be incorporated in training or rehabilitation programmes.  相似文献

A technique was developed for calculating the torque generated by two individual muscles (biceps brachii and brachioradialis) that contribute to the isometric flexion of the elbow. The external torque is the sum of individual torques which are unknown. Each individual torque (CB or CBR) can be related to the corresponding integrated surface EMG (QB or QBR) by means of coefficients (pB or PBR). A block of several equations C = pB QB + pBR QBR is obtained by exploring several experimental conditions. In these conditions, isometric flexion efforts of the elbow were associated to isometric efforts of supination or pronation so as to vary integrated EMG by reciprocal inhibition. By means of a least square method it was possible to know the coefficients PB and PBR. With these coefficients, it was possible to calculate the individual torques generated by the biceps brachii and brachioradialis muscles in each experimental condition.  相似文献

The stiffness of activated muscles may stabilize a loaded joint by preventing perturbations from causing large displacements and injuring the joint. Here the elbow muscle recruitment patterns were compared with the forearm loaded vertically (a potentially unstable inverted pendulum configuration) and with horizontal loading. Eighteen healthy subjects were studied with the forearm vertical and supinated and the elbow flexed approximately 90 degrees. In the first experiment EMG electrodes recorded activity of biceps, triceps, and brachioradialis muscles for joint torques produced (a) by voluntarily exerting a horizontal force isometrically (b) by voluntarily flexing and extending the elbow while the forearm was loaded vertically with 135N. The relationship between the EMG and the torque generated was quantified by the linear regression slope and zero-torque intercept. In a second experiment a vertical load increasing linearly with time up to 300N was applied.In experiment 1 the EMG-torque relationships for biceps and triceps had an intercept about 10% of maximum voluntary effort greater with the vertical compared to the horizontal force, the inverse was found for Brachioradialis, but the EMG-torque slopes for both agonist and antagonistic muscles were not different. In experiment 2 there were 29 trials with minimal elbow displacement and all the three muscles activated on the order of 11% of maximum activation to stabilize the elbow; 19 trials had small elbow extension and 14 trials small flexion requiring altered muscle forces for equilibrium; 7 trials ended in large unstable displacement or early termination of the test. An analysis indicate that the observed levels of muscle activation would only provide stability if the muscles' short-range stiffness was at the high end of the published range, hence the elbow was marginally stable. The stability analysis also indicated that the small elbow extension increased stability and flexion decreased stability.  相似文献

We determined the effect of elbow joint angle on the short-(M1) and long-latency stretch reflex (M2 and M3) responses of the elbow flexion synergists, the brachioradialis (BR), and the biceps brachii (BB), during weak isometric elbow flexion tasks. The elbow joint angle was 35,75 and 115 degrees (full-extension angle was 0 degrees ), and the muscle contraction level was 0,3 and 6% of maximum voluntary contraction (MVC) of the BR. In BR, the M1, M2 and M3 responses were significantly greater at 75 and 115 degrees than at 35 degrees. On the other hand, in BB, the M2 response was significantly greater at 35 degrees than at 75 and 115 degrees, while the M1 and M3 responses were not significantly different among the elbow joint angles. These results indicated that the stretch reflex responses of BR might be dependent on the changes of muscle length in stretch stimulus, while the M2 response of BB might not be dependent on the actual stimulus intensity. Therefore, we concluded that the M2 of BB might be modulated selectively by a higher reflex center in accordance with relationships of the mechanical advantages between synergistic muscles.  相似文献

How do synergistic muscles interact, when their contraction aims at stabilizing and fine-tuning a movement, which is induced by the antagonistic muscle? The aim of the study was to analyze the interaction of biceps and brachioradialis during fine-tuning control tasks in comparison to load bearing ones. The surface electromyogram of biceps, brachioradialis and triceps were examined in 15 healthy subjects in dynamic flexion and extension movements with different combinations of contraction levels, joint angles and angular velocities. The measurements were conducted in two configurations, where the torque due to an external load opposes the rotational direction of the elbow flexion (load bearing tasks) or the elbow extension (fine-tuning tasks).Whereas during load bearing control tasks, similar muscular activation of biceps and brachioradialis was observed for all joint angles, angular velocities and external loads, during fine-tuning control tasks a significant difference of the muscular activation of both flexors was observed for 1 kg, F(3.639, 47.305) = 2.864, p = 0.037, and 5 kg of external load, F(1.570, 21.976) = 6.834, p = 0.008.The results confirm the synergistic muscular activation of both flexors during load bearing tasks, but suggest different control strategies for both flexors when they comprise a fine-tuning control task.  相似文献

摘要 目的:研究应用剪切波弹性成像技术对脑卒中偏瘫患者肌张力、肌硬度进行评估的临床价值。方法:选取2019年3月到2021年2月在我院进行治疗的79例脑卒中偏瘫患者作为研究对象,应用超声仪检测所有研究对象健康侧(健侧)和患病侧(患侧)肱二头肌、肱肌和肱桡肌放松位和拉伸位下杨氏模量值,进行对比分析。结果:在放松位下,脑卒中偏瘫患者患侧肱二头肌和肱桡肌杨氏模量与健康侧肌肉相比无显著差异(P>0.05),而患侧肱肌杨氏模量显著低于健侧(P<0.05)。在拉伸位下,脑卒中偏瘫患者患侧肱二头肌、肱肌和肱桡肌杨氏模量均显著高于健康侧肌肉(P<0.05);脑卒中偏瘫患者放松位与拉伸位肱二头肌、肱肌和肱桡肌杨氏模量差值也均显著高于健康侧肌肉(P<0.05)。此外,不同改良Ashworth肌张力分级的脑卒中偏瘫患者患侧肱二头肌、肱肌和肱桡肌杨氏模量均存在显著差异(P<0.05),并且患侧肱二头肌、肱肌和肱桡肌杨氏模量值随改良Ashworth肌张力分级升高而增加。结论:剪切波弹性成像技术可用于评估脑卒中偏瘫患者肌张力、肌硬度,以指导临床康复。  相似文献

Spasticity after a stroke is usually assessed in a score form by subjectively determining the resistance of a joint to an externally imposed passive movement. This work presents a spasticity measurement system for on-line quantifying the stretch reflex of paretic limbs. Four different constant stretch velocities in a ramp-and-hold mode are used to elicit the stretch reflex of the elbow joint in spastic subjects. The subjects are tested at supine position with the upper limb stretched towards the ground, in contrast with the horizontally stretched movement used in other studies. By subtracting the baseline torque, reflex torque measured at a selected low stretch velocity of 5 deg/sec, the influence of gravity torque and inertial in vertical stretching mode can be minimized. The averaged speed-dependent reflex torque (ASRT), defined as the measured torque deviated from the baseline torque, is used for quantifying the spastic hypertonia. Four subjects having incurred cerebrovascular accident (CVA) are recruited for time-course study in which the measurements are taken at 72 hours, one week, one month, three months, and six months after onset of stroke. During the development of spasticity, the changes of ASRT and velocity sensitivity of ASRT of the involved and the intact elbow joints are discussed.  相似文献

Musculo-articular stiffness of the triceps surae (TS) increases with age in prepubescent children, under both passive and active conditions. This study investigates whether these changes in muscle stiffness influence the amplitude of the reflex response to muscle stretch. TS stiffness and reflex activities were measured in 46 children (7-11 yr old) and in 9 adults. The TS Hoffmann reflex (H reflex) and T reflex (tendon jerk) in response to taping the Achilles tendon were evaluated at rest and normalized to the maximal motor response (Mmax). Sinusoidal perturbations of passive or activated muscles were used to evoke stretch reflexes and to measure passive and active musculoarticular stiffness. The children's Hmax-to-Mmax ratio did not change with age and did not differ from adult values. The T-to-Mmax ratio increased with age but remained significantly lower than in adults. Passive stiffness also increased with age and was correlated with the T-to-Mmax ratio. Similarly, the children's stretch reflex and active musculoarticular stiffness were significantly correlated and increased with age. We conclude that prepubescent children have smaller T reflexes and stretch reflexes than adults, and the lower musculoarticular stiffness is mainly responsible for these smaller reflexes, as indicated by the parallel increases in reflex and stiffness.  相似文献

During sustained maximal voluntary contractions (MVCs), most fatigue occurs within the muscle, but some occurs because voluntary activation of the muscle declines (central fatigue), and some of this reflects suboptimal output from the motor cortex (supraspinal fatigue). This study examines whether supraspinal fatigue occurs during a sustained submaximal contraction of 5% MVC. Eight subjects sustained an isometric elbow flexion of 5% MVC for 70 min. Brief MVCs were performed every 3 min, with stimulation of the motor point, motor cortex, and brachial plexus. Perceived effort and pain, elbow flexion torque, and surface EMGs from biceps and brachioradialis were recorded. During the sustained 5% contraction, perceived effort increased from 0.5 to 3.9 (out of 10), and elbow flexor EMG increased steadily by approximately 60-80%. Torque during brief MVCs fell to 72% of control values, while both the resting twitch and EMG declined progressively. Thus the sustained weak contraction caused fatigue, some of which was due to peripheral mechanisms. Voluntary activation measured by motor point and motor cortex stimulation methods fell to 90% and 80%, respectively. Thus some of the fatigue was central. Calculations based on the fall in voluntary activation measured with cortical stimulation indicate that about two-thirds of the fatigue was due to supraspinal mechanisms. Therefore, sustained performance of a very low-force contraction produces a progressive inability to drive the motor cortex optimally during brief MVCs. The effect of central fatigue on performance of the weak contraction is less clear, but it may contribute to the increase in perceived effort.  相似文献

This paper develops an assistive torque system which uses homogeneic surface electromyogram (EMG) signals to improve the elbow torque capability of stroke patients by applying an external time-varying assistive torque. In determining the magnitude of the torque to apply, the incorporated assistive torque algorithm considers the difference between the weighted biceps and triceps EMG signals such that the applied torque is proportional to the effort supplied voluntarily by the user. The overall stability of the assistive system is enhanced by the incorporation of a nonlinear damping element within the control algorithm which mimics the physiological damping of the elbow joint and the co-contraction between the biceps and triceps. Adaptive filtering of the control signal is employed to achieve a balance between the bandwidth and the system adaptability so as to ensure a smooth assistive torque output. The innovative control algorithm enables the provision of an assistive system whose operation is both natural to use and simple to learn. The effectiveness of the proposed assistive system in assisting elbow movement performance is investigated in a series of tests involving five stroke patients and five able-bodied individuals. The results confirm the ability of the system to assist all of the subjects in performing a number of reaching and tracking tasks with reduced effort and with no sacrifice in elbow movement performance.  相似文献

In restoring the angular position after a displacement, the role of the muscle stretch reflex was investigated by comparing the restored angular torques and angular positions in the wrist under ischaemic and non-ischaemic conditions in normal human subjects. The wrist compliance (COM), defined as the dynamic relation between the angular position and the angular torque of the joint, was calculated to quantify the changes in the restoration of a displacement after abolishing the stretch reflex by ischaemia. The elasticity from the COM-function was found to be single most important factor controlled by the stretch reflex. The elasticity that equals the static stiffness of the system increased by more than 100%, from 0.21 Nm degree-1 with abolished reflex to 0.45 Nm degree-1 with intact reflex. Our results have shown that the stretch reflex assists in the rapid return of the limb to its original position after a mechanical displacement. When the reflex was blocked by ischaemia, the perturbation displaced the limb further away from the initial position.  相似文献

Two sets of experiments were carried out. In the first set, human subjects were asked to make the same effort with the elbow flexors at different joint angles under isometric conditions. In some experiments, the subjects were standing with the arm in a vertical (parasagittal) plane; in others, they were seated with the arm in a horizontal (transverse) plane. When muscular torque at a given effort level (ordinate) was plotted as a function of elbow joint angle (abscissa), the resulting isoeffort torque-angle profiles tended to be flat or negatively sloping over a range from 45° to 135°, and they were often nonmonotonic. Increases in effort up to near-maximal levels caused the isoeffort torque-angle profiles to shift upward with little alteration in shape. In the second set of experiments, seated subjects with the arm horizontal resisted baseline torques produced by a motor that acted to extend the elbow joint. Unexpected increases and decreases in torque were superimposed on the baseline torque. The subjects either were instructed to intervene and return the elbow to the initial (90°) position, or were told, “Do not intervene voluntarily; let the motor move your arm.” Effort was reported both under baseline conditions and after the changes in torque. It was found that changes in effort were a function of the changes in torque opposed by the elbow flexors, and were similar whether the subject had repositioned the arm or allowed it to be moved by the motor. In the latter case, the arm came to rest after displacements that were a function of the size and direction of the torque change. For individual subjects, the largest angular displacements ranged from ° 10° to °20° for changes in torque of ° 10 N.m. There was no evidence for any angular dependence of the effort judgments at a given torque over this angular range. Depending on whether effort is primarily an efferent perception proportional to voluntary motor activity or also has a significant afferent (involuntary) component, different models of motor control are supported by these data.  相似文献

The influence of an eccentric training on torque/angular velocity relationships and coactivation level during maximal voluntary isokinetic elbow flexion was examined. Seventeen subjects divided into two groups (Eccentric Group EG, n = 9 Control Group CG, n = 8) performed on an isokinetic dynamometer, before and after training, maximal isokinetic elbow flexions at eight angular velocities (from - 120 degrees s(-1) under eccentric conditions to 240 degrees s(-1) under concentric conditions), and held maximal and submaximal isometric actions. Under all conditions, the myoelectric activities (EMG) of the biceps and the triceps brachii muscles were recorded and quantified as the RMS value. Eccentric training of the EG consisted of 5x6 eccentric muscle actions at 100 and 120% of one maximal repetition (IRM) for 21 sessions and lasted 7 weeks. In the EG after training, torque was significantly increased at all angular velocities tested (ranging from 11.4% at 30 degrees (s-1) to 45.5% at - 120 degrees s(-1)) (p < 0.05). These changes were accompanied by an increase in the RMS activities of the BB muscle under eccentric conditions (from - 120 to - 30 degrees (s-1)) and at the highest concentric angular velocities (180 and 24 degrees s(-1)) (p < 0.05). The RMS activity of the TB muscle was not affected by the angular velocity in either group for all action modes. The influence of eccentric training on the torque gains under eccentric conditions and for the highest velocities was attributed essentially to neural adaptations.  相似文献

The aim of the present work was to determine the EMG activity and the moment of force developed by the main elbow flexor muscles, and to establish on this basis the degree of their participation in isometric contractions performed at various positions of the elbow. This was achieved by recording the following biomechanical parameters: EMG and tensile stress (or force) from biceps brachii (BB) and brachioradialis (BR); EMG from brachialis; external resultant force (FE). There was: a linear or quadratic relationship between the integrated EMG from each muscle and FE; a linear relationship between the force produced by BB or BR and FE. The slope of these relationships depended on the elbow angle, except for that between BB force and FE. It is proposed that iEMG changes compensate for those of the force lever arm. It has been calculated that the contribution of BR to external torque decreased from the extension to flexion while that of BB increased from 70 degrees to 90 degrees and then decreased. How far these data can be extrapolated to man is a matter of discussion based on iEMG and anthropometrical data.  相似文献

The study compared changes in intramuscular and surface recordings of EMG amplitude with ultrasound measures of muscle architecture of the elbow flexors during a submaximal isometric contraction. Ten subjects performed a fatiguing contraction to task failure at 20% of maximal voluntary contraction force. EMG activity was recorded in biceps brachii, brachialis, and brachioradialis muscles using intramuscular and surface electrodes. The rates of increase in the amplitude of the surface EMG for the long and short heads of biceps brachii and brachioradialis were greater than those for the intramuscular recordings measured at different depths. The amplitude of the intramuscular recordings from three muscles increased at a similar rate (P = 0.13), as did the amplitude of the three surface recordings from two muscles (P = 0.83). The increases in brachialis thickness (27.7 +/- 5.7 to 30.9 +/- 3.5 mm; P < 0.05) and pennation angle (10.9 +/- 3.5 to 16.5 +/- 4.8 degrees ; P = 0.003) were not associated with the increase in intramuscular EMG amplitude (P > 0.58). The increase in brachioradialis thickness (22.8 +/- 4.8 to 25.5 +/- 3.4 mm; P = 0.0075) was associated with the increase in the amplitude for one of two intramuscular EMG signals (P = 0.007, r = 0.79). The time to failure was more strongly associated with the rate of increase in the amplitude of the surface EMG than that for the intramuscular EMG, which suggests that the surface measurement provides a more appropriate measure of the change in muscle activation during a fatiguing contraction.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to examine the influence of exercise-induced muscle damage on elbow rhythmic movement (RM) performance and neural activity pattern and to investigate whether this influence is joint angle specific. Ten males performed an exercise of 50 maximal eccentric elbow flexions in isokinetic machine with duty cycle of 1:15. Maximal dynamic and isometric force tests (90°, 110° and 130° elbow angle) and both active and passive stretch reflex tests of elbow flexors were applied to the elbow joint. The intentional RM was performed in the horizontal plane at elbow angles; 60–120° (SA-RM), 80–140° (MA-RM) and 100–160° (LA-RM). All measurements together with the determination of muscle soreness, swelling, passive stiffness, serum creatine kinase were conducted before, immediately and 2 h as well as 2 days, 4 days, 6 days and 8 days post-exercise. Repeated maximal eccentric actions modified the RM trajectory symmetry acutely (SA-RM) and delayed (SA/MA/LA-RM) until the entire follow up of 8 days. Acutely lowered MA-RM peak velocity together with reduced activity of biceps brachii (BB) at every RM range, reflected a poorer acceleration and deceleration capacity of elbow flexors. A large acute drop of BB EMG burst amplitude together with parallel decrease in BB active stretch reflex amplitude, especially 2 h post-exercise, suggested an inhibitory effect originating most likely from groups III/IV mechano-nociceptors.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate active muscle stiffness with the stretch reflex according to changes (in 110-ms period after stretching) in torque and fascicle length during slower angular velocity (peak angular velocity of 100 deg·s−1) in comparison with active muscle stiffness without the stretch reflex (in 60-ms period after stretching) during slower and faster (peak angular velocity of 250 deg·s−1) angular velocities. Active muscle stiffness in the medial gastrocnemius muscle was calculated according to changes in estimated muscle force and fascicle length with slower and faster stretching during submaximal isometric contractions (10–90% maximal voluntary contractions). Active muscle stiffness significantly increased for both angular velocities and analyzed periods as torque levels exerted became higher. The effects of angular velocities and the interaction between angular velocities and torque levels were not significantly different between 250 deg·s−1 (in 60-ms period after stretching) and 100 deg·s−1 (in 110-ms period after stretching) conditions. The effects of the analyzed periods and the interaction between analyzed periods and torque levels were not significantly different between the analyzed periods (60-ms and 110-ms periods after stretching) for the 100 deg·s−1 condition. Furthermore, active muscle stiffness measured during the same angular velocity had significant correlations between those calculated in the different analyzed periods, whereas those under 250 deg·s−1 (60-ms period after stretching) did not correlate with those under 100 deg·s−1 (110-ms period after stretching). These results suggest that active muscle stiffness is not influenced by the stretch reflex.  相似文献
