Effects of dietary caffeine on renal handling of minerals in adult women   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
Thirty-seven women, aged 31-78 years, on two separate mornings consumed a decaffeinated beverage to which 6 mg caffeine/kg lean body mass or no caffeine were added. Total urine output of water, calcium, magnesium, sodium, chloride, potassium and creatinine increased in the two hours following caffeine ingestion when compared to the control beverage. Increased urinary mineral (mg)/urinary creatinine (g) ratios were seen for calcium (120 to 200), magnesium (70 to 110), sodium (3,800 to 6,200) and chloride (9,200 to 14,800), following the caffeinated beverage. Creatinine clearance did not change significantly. The percent reabsorption of calcium (98.6% to 97.5%, p less than .001) and magnesium (97.0% to 94.2%, p less than .0001) decreased significantly during the post-caffeine period. The calcium and magnesium filtered loads did not differ significantly between the caffeine and no caffeine beverages. Therefore, caffeine-induced urinary loss of calcium and magnesium is largely attributable to a reduction in calcium and magnesium renal reabsorption, although the physiological mechanism and tubular segment affected remain to be established.  相似文献

Mineral composition and relative deposition rates in the pig’s body are used to assess the mineral net requirements for growth and input–output balances. The study aimed to examine the dynamics of changes in mineral composition and deposition rates in the empty body (EB) from birth to 140 kg BW depending on dietary protein supply. In the experiment, 66 entire male, 58 castrated and 66 female Swiss Large White pigs were used to determine body composition at birth, 10, 20 kg and at 20 kg intervals from 40 to 140 kg BW. From 20 kg BW, they had either ad libitum access to a control grower and finisher diet or a grower and finisher diet containing 80% CP, lysine, methione+cystine, threonine and tryptophan of the control diet. Each EB fraction (carcass, organs and empty intestines, blood and bile) was weighed and analyzed for water, ash, calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, potassium, sodium, copper, iron, manganese and zinc contents. Allometric relationships between the amount of each mineral in the EB and the EB weight (EBW) were fitted. The R2 of the allometric equations was above 0.92, except for copper and manganese (below 0.33), revealing the EBW as an excellent explanatory variable of the analyzed amounts. The copper and manganese composition in the EB were extremely low and variable which explain the low R2. Except for zinc, all mineral relative deposition rates decreased with increasing EBW. The amount of ash, calcium and phosphorus in the EB was not affected by the diet, but when expressed relative to body protein these minerals were increased when pigs were fed the low protein diet. This suggests an independent protein deposition and bone mineralization when animals are fed diets limiting in protein content. The diet also affected the amount of potassium in the EB which was greater when the low protein diet was fed. The gender only affected the amounts of potassium and sodium in the EB which were greater in entire males. Entire males had also greater amounts of water in the EB, which may explain the observed effect of gender on these two electrolytes. Finally, gender and dietary protein did not affect to a sufficient relevant way the body mineral composition and deposition rates in the EB, suggesting that their distinction may not be necessary to assess, on BW basis, the mineral net requirements for growth and the exported amount of minerals in input–output balances.  相似文献

Only part of the effect of dietary protein on urinary calcium excretion can be ascribed to sulfur amino acids. We hypothesized that chloride, another factor often associated with isolated proteins, and another amino acid, lysine, affect utilization of calcium. The effects of supplemental dietary chloride, inorganic or organic, on calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium utilization were studied in two rat studies. Weanling Sprague-Dawley rats were fed semi-purified diets that contained moderate (1.8 mg Cl/g diet) or supplemental (15.5 mg Cl/g diet) chloride as sodium chloride, potassium chloride, or lysine monohydrochloride with or without calcium carbonate for 56 or 119 days. Rats fed supplemental sodium chloride or potassium chloride had higher urinary phosphorus excretion, more efficient phosphorus absorption, but unchanged tissue phosphorus levels after 7 and 16 weeks of dietary treatment as compared to rats fed moderate chloride. Rats fed supplemental sodium chloride or potassium chloride excreted more calcium in urine at 7 weeks and absorbed calcium less efficiently at 16 weeks. Tissue calcium concentrations were unaffected, but total tibia magnesium and plasma magnesium concentrations were lower in rats fed supplemental sodium chloride or potassium chloride than those fed moderate chloride. Lysine chloride with or without additional calcium elevated urinary calcium excretion even more than sodium chloride and potassium chloride ingestion. Rats fed lysine chloride with supplemental calcium had smaller apparent absorption and urinary losses of phosphorus and magnesium after 16 weeks and lower tibia and plasma magnesium concentrations than rats fed lysine chloride.  相似文献

The effects of low dietary rubidium on plasma biochemical parameters and mineral levels in tissues in rats were studied. Eighteen male Wistar rats, weighing about 40 g, were divided into two groups and fed the diets with or without supplemental rubidium (0.54 vs 8.12 mg/kg diet) for 11 wk. Compared to the rats fed the diet with supplemental rubidium, the animals fed the diet without rubidium supplementation had higher urea nitrogen in plasma; lower rubidium concentration in tissues; lower sodium in muscle; higher potassium in plasma, kidney and tibia, and lower potassium in testis; lower phosphorus in heart and spleen; lower calcium in spleen; higher magnesium in muscle and tibia; higher iron in muscle; lower zinc in plasma and testis; and lower copper in heart, liver, and spleen, and higher copper in kidney. These results suggest that rubidium concentration in tissues reflects rubidium intake, and that rubidium depletion affects mineral (sodium, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, and copper) status.  相似文献

Milk samples were obtained in early and/or late lactation from Przewalski horses, Hartmann's zebras, Grant's zebras, domestic horses, ponies and a mule mare made pregnant by embryo transfer. Samples were compared for their content of total solids, ash, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, potassium, copper, zinc and iron. Milk from the Przewalski horses, Hartmann's zebra and the domestic horse had similar mineral composition and the content of minerals was higher in early than in late lactation. Milk from the domestic mule contained the lowest concentration of calcium, phosphorus and zinc but the highest concentration of magnesium, sodium and potassium. Milk from the Grant's zebras contained more sodium than potassium, unlike milk from Przewalski horses, Hartmann's zebras or domestic horses in which there was more potassium than sodium.  相似文献

Monthly levels of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium and iron in the organs (root, rhizome, stem, leaf and panicle) of Phragmites australis were determined from March to November, 1975 in Forfar Loch (polytrophic), Balgavies Loch (eutrophic) and Loch of the Lowes (mesotrophic), Scotland. Generally no consistent seasonal changes in the mineral levels were detected for the root, rhizome and panicle. For the stem and leaf, the levels of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium rose to a peak before declining for the rest of the season. Consistently higher levels of tissue nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and calcium were found in the Forfar plants over those of Balgavies and Lowes, reflecting the very eutrophic condition in Forfar Loch. The mineral compositions in the reeds in the present study were compared with similar studies in other areas.  相似文献

Energy and protein requirements were determined for Belgian Blue double-muscled (BB dm) bulls based on the results of two feeding trials and a trial with serial slaughtering. The results of the serial slaughter experiment allowed calculation of chemical composition and energy content of the empty body, as well as protein and energy deposition at various live weights between 350 and 650 kg. Protein requirements were calculated based on the protein requirements for maintenance, the protein mass accreted and the efficiency of protein accretion. Efficiency of protein deposition (g protein accretion/g protein intake for accretion) was derived from the feeding experiments based on marginal protein levels; it decreased from 0.53 to 0.44 with increasing live weight. Energy requirements were also derived from the same database. Net energy for maintenance was estimated, with these animals that received an optimum energy/protein ratio, by subtracting the net energy retained from the net energy intake. Requirements were then determined by summation of the energy requirements for maintenance and the energy requirements for accretion. Conclusively, energy and protein requirements were determined for BB dm bulls for live weights from 350 to 650 kg and for different growth rates. As such, surpluses of energy and protein that BB dm animals require compared to other beef breeds, were quantified.  相似文献

Minerals are limiting factors in animal production, and the knowledge of mineral requirements for livestock is crucial to the success of a commercial enterprise. Hair sheep may have different mineral requirements than those presents by the international committees. A study was carried to evaluate the net calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), magnesium (Mg), sodium (Na), potassium (K), zinc (Zn), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn) and copper (Cu) requirements for the growth and maintenance of Brazilian Somali lambs. A total of 48 hair lambs (13.5±1.8 kg) aged 60±15 days were allocated to individual pens. Eight animals were slaughtered at the beginning of the experiment to serve as a reference group to estimate initial empty BW (EBW) and initial body composition. The remaining lambs (n=40) were assigned to a completely randomized design with eight replications in five levels of metabolizable energy (ME; 4.93, 8.65, 9.41, 10.12 and 11.24 MJ/kg DM). When the lambs of a given treatment reached an average BW of 28 kg, they were slaughtered. Initial body composition was used to calculate the retention of minerals. Mineral body composition was fit using a logarithmic equation in the form of a nonlinear model. The maintenance requirements were estimated from regressions of mineral retention in the empty body on mineral intake. The body mineral concentration decreased in lambs with a BW ranging from 15 to 30 kg. The net mineral requirements (100 g/day of average daily gain (ADG)) decreased from 0.52 to 0.51 g for Ca, 0.28 to 0.23 g for P, 0.02 to 0.02 g for Mg, 0.09 to 0.08 g for Na, 0.11 to 0.09 g for K, 1.30 to 1.08 mg for Zn, 3.77 to 3.22 mg for Fe, 0.08 to 0.06 mg for Mn and 0.09 to 0.08 mg for Cu when BW increased from 15 to 30 kg. The daily net requirements for maintenance per kilogram of BW were 30.13 mg of Ca, 27.58 mg of P, 1.26 mg of Mg, 4.12 mg of Na, 8.11 mg of K, 0.133 mg of Zn, 0.271 mg of Fe, 0.002 mg of Mn and 0.014 mg of Cu. The results of this study indicate that the net mineral requirements for weight gain and maintenance in Brazilian Somali lambs are different than the values that are commonly recommended by the main evaluation systems for feed and nutritional requirements for sheep. These results for the nutritional requirements of minerals may help to optimize mineral supply for hair sheep.  相似文献

Primate diets may be influenced by the phytochemical composition of potential food resources. This study examined the protein, fiber, and mineral content of leaves from plant species used as food resources by the proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus) in Tanjung Puting National Park, Kalimantan Tengah, Indonesia. In addition, leaf samples were collected from nonfood resources based upon relative density in previously established vegetation plots. Higher concentrations of crude protein, phosphorus, potassium, and zinc were found in young leaves. Mature leaves had higher levels of magnesium, manganese and calcium compared to young leaves. Leaves from species used as food resources were significantly higher in protein (9.9% vs. 8.5%) and lower in fiber (30.5% vs. 40.0% acid detergent fiber) than the leaves from species not used as food sources. Food resources also contained higher concentrations of phosphorus and potassium; nonfood resources contained higher concentrations of calcium and manganese. Proboscis monkeys appear to follow the typical colobine trend: a diet relatively high in protein and low in digestion inhibitors (fiber). Little previous work has examined mineral content as a selection factor in primate food choices. Leaves from species used as food resources contained less calcium (0.35%), iron (34 mg/kg) and phosphorus (0.15%) than dietary standards established for captive nonhuman primates, but values were similar to those established for ruminant herbivores. Other mineral concentrations (potassium, magnesium, manganese, sodium, and zinc) met or exceeded recommended levels for both primates and ruminants. Comparison of diverse nutrients in native diets may provide insight into suitability of domestic animals models for providing adequate diets in captive feeding situations, as well as help define resource limitations in natural environments. Adult mountain hares in outdoor cages were studied in order to evaluate the consumption and the digestibility of natural winter foods. Food, feces and urine were analysed for nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium, potassium, magnesium and sodium, and food and feces for fiber as well. The metabolism of the different nutrients are presented in this paper.
When energy equilibrium was maintained hares assimilated as an average 21.6 g dry matter per kg body weight and day (29.5 g kg0-75). The fiber fraction showed a low digestibility ranging from 10 to 30% between different food species.
At energy equilibrium nitrogen equilibrium was usually also achieved; the hares then digested approximately 0.20–0.25. g nitrogen per kg body weight and day (0.27–0.34 kg -0.75). The apparent nitrogen digestibility was low, usually below 40%.
The demand for calcium, potassium and magnesium seemed to be well covered via the food. Phosphorus on the other hand was absorbed in small amounts only, which may sometimes have been insufficient. A negative sodium balance occurred when the hares were fed heather or the finest twigs of birch. Due to the low concentrations in the food this could create problems in the supply of sodium.  相似文献

Yearling brown trout, Salmo trutta , were exposed to low mineral content water (nominal concentrations of 20μmol 1−1 magnesium, 7.7 μmol 1−1 potassium, 44 μmol 1−1 sodium) over a pH range of 4.0–5.2 with ambient calcium concentrations of 2.5–60 μmol 1−1. All fish died at pH 4.0 and 4.2 irrespective of ambient calcium concentration and also at pH 4.4 with only 2–3 μmol 1 −1 calcium (that is calcium-free water except for that leached from the diet or excreted by the fish). Good growth rates were obtained over the remaining treatments which extended down to pH 4.4 with as little as 7 μmol 1−1 calcium. When starved, weight loss was inversely correlated with pH. Effects on plasma chloride, percentage dry weight and calcium, potassium sodium, and phosphorus contents of skin, muscle and bone tissue were also investigated. These demonstrated pH effects on mineral metabolism in starved fish, but no effects were detected in fed fish.  相似文献

Summary In pot experiments with oats on sandy soil poor in sodium and potassium a study was made of the effect of the addition of Na2SO4 and K2SO4 on the mineral composition of the straw.The addition of sodium at 200 ppm Na significantly increased the phosphorus content of the straw and there was a slight further increase with 200 ppm Na plus 200 ppm K, but the phosphorus content never exceeded 0.13 per cent.Sodium and potassium caused a highly significant decrease in the silica content of the straw. Decreased lodging in soils inundated with sea water can therefore not be ascribed to an increase of silica content.The calcium and the cellulose contents of the straw were both significantly reduced by sodium and potassium.  相似文献

Summary This paper describes a factorial experiment which was designed to elucidate the effect of total iron supply and rate of iron supply on the yield of tomato plants. Information was also obtained on the effect of iron supply and leaf age on the concentration of a number of nutrient elements in the leaf tissue.Increasing the total iron supply increases the yield, and the iron concentration in the leaves, while the manganese, phosphorus, sodium, calcium and magnesium decrease in concentration. The young leaves have a lower concentration of iron, manganese, potassium, sodium, calcium and magnesium than the older leaves, while the reverse is true of nitrogen and phosphorus. A slow rate of iron supply decreases the yield and sodium concentration in the leaves but increases the manganese and phosphorus concentrations.Interaction between total iron supply and leaf position affects the manganese, potassium, calcium and magnesium concentrations in the leaves, while the interaction between total-iron level and rate of iron supply affects the phosphorus and calcium concentration in the leaves.  相似文献

We carried out a balance study to examine the effects of isomaltulose, lactose, isomalt, and isomaltulose-based oligomers (IBOs) on mineral (calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and iron) absorption and retention. Four-week-old male Wistar rats were divided into five groups of six rats each and fed a basal diet or diet the containing either 5% isomaltulose, 5% lactose, 5% isomalts or isomaltulose-based oligomers (IBOs) ad libitum for 16 d. After 1 wk, the animals were subjected to a 5-d mineral (calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and iron) balance study. The isomalt feeding, as well as the IBOs feeding, led to significantly elevated mineral absorption and retention. On the other hand, lactose feeding, widely known to enhance calcium absorption, increased only calcium absorption and isomaltulose feeding did not affect mineral absorption or retention. The organic acids in cecum contents were increased by IBOs or isomalt feeding. Succinic and acetic acids in cecum contents were significantly increased by IBOs feeding. Similarly, succinic acetic, and i-valeric acids and total amount of organic acid in cecum content were significantly increased by isomalt feeding. Although the organic acids in cecum contents were increased by IBOs or isomalt feeding, the PH values and acidity in cecum contents were not changed by IBOs or isomalt feeding. The effect of addition of various organic acids to the mucosal fluid was examined with in vitro study using a hindgut segment. By the addition of acetic acid, and butyric acid, the mineral (calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus) uptake was increased.  相似文献

应用正交法设计进行了三批草鱼种对钙、磷、镁、铁等无机盐元素需要量饲养试验.在此基础上又设计进行了两批以三池平行为一组的鉴别试验.经数理统计分析,获得了草鱼种饲料适宜混合无机盐含量,草鱼种对钙、磷等13种无机盐元素的适宜需要量,以及适宜比例.取得了比哈尔佛Halver氏鱼类营养盐(美国药典U.S.P.Ⅻ.No.2营养盐加哈尔佛微量元素)更适于草鱼种生长需要的新型混合无机盐.试验表明,对草鱼种生长影响比较大的无机盐元素是钙、磷、铁、硫、镁和钴.适宜的混合无机盐对草鱼种生长具有显著的促进作用,不适宜的混合无机盐或缺乏无机盐则草鱼种食欲差,生长缓慢,蛋白质效率低,出现营养缺乏症状.草鱼种对无机盐的需要表明,它不同于已有报道的大鳞大马哈鱼、斑点叉尾鮰、虹鳟、鲤、红海鲷、日本鳗、溪红点鲑,以及非鲫等.所作鱼体背肌、脊柱和血液的生化成分分析表明,第四、五批试验所养草鱼种与常规用草饲养的草鱼种基本一致.    相似文献

Analysis of organic and inorganic compounds in haemolymph, epidermal tissue and cuticle, allowed the correlation of their content variation during the molt cycle in Scylla serrata (Decapoda). The extrusion of carbohydrate, chitin, H(2)O- and NaOH-soluble proteins of the epidermal tissue from D2 stage on suggested an early formation of the organic fraction in the new cuticle. The additional secretion of HCl-soluble protein, glycosaminoglycans, calcium, phosphorus and sulfur in D2-D3 stages suggests mineral nucleation shortly before or at ecdysis. This is consistent with the dominant content of proteins and chitin associated with peaks of carbohydrates and GAG-sulfur groups detected in the cuticle immediately after ecdysis. Furthermore, the maximal phosphorus content at this moment suggests calcium, magnesium and manganese phosphate deposits. After an intense accumulation of calcium, chitin and sharp decrease of protein from A to B stages, a constant rate of their deposition in intermolt and dissolution in premolt occurred. The variations concerning proteins, carbohydrates, glycosaminoglycans, calcium, magnesium and sulfur in the haemolymph, before and after ecdysis, suggest a transitory phenomenon for calcium binding and releasing. Other major elements such as, sodium, potassium and chloride may function as osmotic regulators in the haemolymph and in epidermal compartments. The copper profile presented an indicator role for variations of osmolality over the molt cycle.  相似文献

This study investigated the ability of replacement gilts to adapt their calcium and phosphorus utilization and their kinetics in bone mineralization to compensate for modified intake of these nutrients by applying a novel Ca and P depletion and repletion strategy. A total of 24 gilts were fed according to a two-phase feeding program. In the first phase, gilts (60–95 kg BW) were fed ad libitum a depletion diet providing either 60% (D60; 1.2 g digestible P/kg) or 100% (D100; 2.1 g digestible P/kg) of the estimated P requirement. In the second phase, gilts (95–140 kg BW) were fed restrictively (aim: 700–750 g/d BW gain) a repletion diet. Half of the gilts from each depletion diet were randomly assigned to either a control diet or a high-P diet (R100 and R160; with 2.1 and 3.5 g digestible P/kg, respectively) according to a 2 × 2 factorial design, resulting in four treatments: D60-R100, D60-R160, D100-R100 and D100-R160. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry was used to measure whole-body bone mineral content (BMC), bone mineral density (BMD) and lean and fat tissue mass on each gilt at 2-week intervals. The depletion and repletion diets, fed for 5 and 8 weeks, respectively, did not influence growth performance. The D60 gilts had a reduced BMC and BMD from the second week onwards and ended (95 kg BW) with 9% lower values than D100 gilts (P < 0.001). During repletion, D60 gilts completely recovered the deficit in bone mineralization from the second and fourth week onwards, when fed R160 (D60-R160 vs D100-R160) or R100 (D60-R100 vs D100-R100) diets, respectively (treatment × time interaction, P < 0.001); thus, the depletion diets did not affect these values at 140 kg BW. These results illustrate the rapid homeostatic counter-regulation capacity of dietary Ca and P, and they show the high potential to limit dietary digestible P concentration by completely excluding the use of mineral phosphates during the depletion phase, representative of the fattening period, without causing any detrimental effects to gilts at mating. The gilts were able to recover their BMC deficit between their selection at 95 kg BW and first mating at 140 kg BW by increasing their dietary Ca and P efficiency. Finally, excess dietary digestible P, requiring increased amounts of mineral phosphates, further increased the gilts’ BMC.  相似文献

矿物元素在畜禽生长发育、新陈代谢、神经活动、免疫功能、内分泌等几乎所有的生命活动过程中都发挥着重要的生理作用,分为钙、磷、钠、镁等常量元素和铁、锰、钴、铜等微量元素。某种矿物元素摄入不足或在体内过量蓄积、矿物元素间比例失调,都将引起严重后果。随着畜禽养殖业的集约化规模化发展,饲用矿物元素用量迅速增加,但存在不合理使用的情况,造成了资源浪费和环境污染。因此,在满足畜禽营养需要量的前提下,合理地使用矿物元素剂型及剂量,实现降低矿物元素经畜禽粪污向环境中的排放量,不仅利于集约化畜禽养殖业的发展,同时也能有效降低畜禽粪污中的重金属含量,为种植业提供优良的有机肥来源,维护生态系统的平衡,促进种植业和养殖业的可持续健康发展。基于此,以畜禽体内含量最高的常量元素钙磷和微量元素为切入点,介绍了饲用矿物元素的应用现状、畜禽矿物元素基础需要量及合适的添加范围,着重综述了新型饲用微量元素的开发与应用进展,并探讨了矿物元素动态饲喂模式的可行性及有效性,以期为合理利用矿物元素资源及进一步解决全球生态农业研究的畜禽矿物元素导致的环境污染提供参考。  相似文献

Changes in blood plasma calcium, inorganic phosphorus, magnesium, zinc, iron, copper, sodium and potassium concentrations over a 3-year period were investigated in primitive goats. Blood plasma mineral concentrations were determined by atomic absorption and a colorimetric method. Changes in Zn and Ca concentrations are season dependent, potassium levels show only a long-term change tendency, and magnesium and inorganic phosphorus had constant levels throughout the investigation period. Iron, copper and sodium showed both long-term change tendencies and more or less marked season related changes.  相似文献

Muskoxen (Ovibos moschatus) consume fibrous plants that grow rapidly over the short Arctic summer. We studied responses of eight castrated male muskoxen to a diet of grass hay and mineral supplements during spring, autumn, and winter. Animals gained body mass in spring (239+/-39 kg) as body fat content increased from 26% to 38% of ingesta-free mass in winter without changes in lean mass and protein. Intakes of dry matter (DM) increased by 74% between spring and autumn as digestible energy increased from 554 to 923 kJ kg(-0.75) d(-1) during mass gain. Digestibility of cellulose (72%-76%) was not affected by increasing food intake between spring and autumn but was reduced to 65% in winter. Digestibility of nitrogen compounds was 61%-66%, even though intake increased by 134% between spring and autumn. Excess dietary nitrogen from hay and supplements increased urea concentrations in plasma and urine. High loads of solutes such as potassium did not affect plasma or urinary osmolality but were associated with increased rates of glomerular filtration and urinary excretion. Low intakes of sodium from grasses may limit intake and digestion during summer, but high food intakes can support deposition of nitrogen, calcium, magnesium, copper, and zinc in body tissue even when dietary concentrations are low. Seasonal increases in digestive and metabolic functions allow muskoxen to rapidly accumulate energy and nutrients in body tissue during the short season of plant growth.  相似文献
