Our objective was to test the hypothesis that a common polymorphism in the hepatic lipase (HL) gene (LIPC -514C>T, rs1800588) influences aerobic exercise training-induced changes in TG, very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) through genotype-specific increases in lipoprotein lipase (LPL) activity and that sex may affect these responses. Seventy-six sedentary overweight to obese men and women aged 50-75 yr at risk for coronary heart disease (CHD) underwent a 24-wk prospective study of the LIPC -514 genotype-specific effects of exercise training on lipoproteins measured enzymatically and by nuclear magnetic resonance, postheparin LPL and HL activities, body composition by dual energy x-ray absorptiometry and computer tomography scan, and aerobic capacity. CT genotype subjects had higher baseline total cholesterol, HDL-C, HDL(2)-C, large HDL, HDL particle size, and large LDL than CC homozygotes. Exercise training elicited genotype-specific decreases in VLDL-TG (-22 vs. +7%; P < 0.05; CC vs. CT, respectively), total VLDL and medium VLDL, and increases in HDL-C (7 vs. 4%; P < 0.03) and HDL(3)-C with significant genotype×sex interactions for the changes in HDL-C and HDL(3)-C (P values = 0.01-0.02). There were also genotype-specific changes in LPL (+23 vs. -6%; P < 0.05) and HL (+7 vs. -24%; P < 0.01) activities, with LPL increasing only in CC subjects (P < 0.006) and HL decreasing only in CT subjects (P < 0.007). Reductions in TG, VLDL-TG, large VLDL, and medium VLDL and increases in HDL(3)-C and small HDL particles correlated significantly with changes in LPL, but not HL, activity only in CC subjects. This suggests that the LIPC -514C>T variant significantly affects training-induced anti-atherogenic changes in VLDL-TG, VLDL particles, and HDL through an association with increased LPL activity in CC subjects, which could guide therapeutic strategies to reduce CHD risk.  相似文献

Diet-induced weight loss in women may be associated with decreases not only in plasma levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), but also in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). Whether a decrease in HDL-C is associated with altered HDL function is unknown. One hundred overweight or obese women (age 46 ± 11 years, 60 black; 12 diabetic) were enrolled in the 6-month program of reduced fat and total energy diet and low-intensity exercise. Serum cholesterol efflux capacity was measured in (3)H-cholesterol-labeled BHK cells expressing ABCA1, ABCG1, or SR-B1 transporters and incubated with 1% apolipoprotein B (apoB)-depleted serum. Antioxidant properties of HDL were estimated by paraoxonase-1 (PON1) activity and oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC). Endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) activation was measured by conversion of L-arginine to L-citrulline in endothelial cells incubated with HDL from 49 subjects. Participants achieved an average weight loss of 2.2 ± 3.9 kg (P < 0.001), associated with reductions in both LDL-C (-6 ± 21 mg/dl, P = 0.004) and HDL-C (-3 ± 9 mg/dl, P = 0.016). Cholesterol efflux capacity by the ABCA1 transporter decreased by 10% (P = 0.006); efflux capacities by the ABCG1 and SR-B1 transporters were not significantly altered. ORAC decreased by 15% (P = 0.018); neither PON1 activity nor eNOS activation was significantly altered by reduction in HDL-C. Findings were similar for diabetic and nondiabetic subjects. Diet-induced weight loss in overweight or obese women is associated with a decrease in HDL-C levels, but overall HDL function is relatively spared, suggesting that decrease in HDL-C in this setting is not deleterious to cardiovascular risk.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to set up a protocol of intermittent exercise to train young basketball players. Twenty-one players were asked to complete (a) an incremental test to determine maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max), the speed at the ventilatory threshold (vthr) and the energy cost of "linear" running (Cr) and (b) an intermittent test composed of 10 shuttle runs of 10-second duration and 30-seconds of recovery (total duration: about 6 minutes). The exercise intensity (the running speed, vi) was set at 130% of vthr. During the intermittent tests, oxygen uptake (VO2) and blood lactate concentration (Lab) were measured. The average pretraining VO2 calculated for a single bout (131 ± 9 ml · min(-1) kg(-1)) was about 2.4 times greater than the subjects' measured VO2max (54.7 ± 4.6 ml · min(-1) · kg(-1)). The net energy cost of running (9.2 ± 0.9 J · m(-1) · kg(-1)) was about 2.4 times higher than that measured at constant "linear" speed (3.9 ± 0.3 J · m(-1) · kg(-1)). The intermittent test was repeated after 7 weeks of training: 9 subjects (control group [CG]) maintained their traditional training schedule, whereas for 12 subjects (experimental group [EG]) part of the training was replaced by intermittent exercise (the same shuttle test as described above). After training, the VO2 measured during the intermittent test was significantly reduced (p < 0.05) in both groups (-10.9% in EG and - 4.6 in CG %), whereas Lab decreased significantly only for EG (-31.5%). These data suggest that this training protocol is effective in reducing lactate accumulation in young basketball players.  相似文献

The response of respiratory gas exchanges to a 6 week high intensity training program was examined in 5 healthy males during fixed term maximal incremental treadmill exercise. Training was performed 3 d.wk-1 and consisted of a progressive series of repeated 15 sec and 30 sec maximal runs, and weight training exercises for the leg extensor muscles. Respiratory gases during the tests were continuously monitored using an on-line system. Muscle biopsy samples were obtained from the m. vastus lateralis before and after training for histochemical determination of fibre distribution based on myosin ATP-ase activity, and fibre cross-sectional area based on NADH-Tetrazolium Reductase activity. Training significantly increased the proportion of type IIa fibres (+5.9 +/- 2.0%, p less than 0.001) and decreased type I fibres (-6.3 +/- 2.0%, p less than 0.001), the distribution of type IIb fibres remained unchanged (+0.4 +/- 0.9%). Muscle cross-sectional area also showed a significant increase after training in type I (+318 +/- 215 microns 2, p less than 0.05), IIa (+652 +/- 207 microns 2, p less than 0.001) and IIb (+773 +/- 196 microns 2, p less than 0.001) fibres. During fixed term maximal incremental exercise the mean carbon dioxide output (VCO2) and mean respiratory exchange ratio (R = VCO2/VO2) were significantly increased (p less than 0.01) after training. The R-time relationship was at all times shifted to the left after training, being significantly (p less than 0.01) so over the final five min of exercise. Peak aerobic power (VO2peak) is decreased after blood donation, but the time course for full recovery is unknown. We measured VO2peak and exercise time to fatigue before and weekly for 4 weeks after 450-ml blood donation at a blood donor clinic, to determine the time course of recovery. Twelve moderately active individuals (2 women, 10 men; 24.3 ± 5.2 years) of average aerobic fitness (based on their VO2peak relative to normative values) completed VO2peak exercise tests before donation, the day after donation, and at weekly intervals for 4 weeks after donation. VO2peak was determined by an incremental exercise test on a cycle ergometer. At baseline, mean absolute and relative VO2peak values were 4.06 ± 0.92 L·min(-1) and 46.6 ± 7.0 ml·kg(-1)·min(-1), respectively. VO2peak was significantly decreased on day 1 (3.85 ± 0.89 L·min(-1); 44.0 ± 6.5 ml·kg(-1)·min(-1)) and during week 2 (3.91 ± 0.97 L·min(-1); 44.5 ± 7.2 ml·kg(-1)·min(-1)) after blood donation (p < 0.05), and recovered at week 3 after donation. Time to fatigue and peak heart rate were not significantly affected by blood donation. We conclude that blood donation causes a significant decrease in VO2peak for between 2 and 3 weeks. The practical application of this study is that aerobic power in people of average fitness will be decreased, up to 3 weeks after donating blood. Despite this, there is no effect of blood donation on performance as measured by time to fatigue during an incremental test on a cycle ergometer.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship that age has on factors affecting running economy (RE) in competitive distance runners. Fifty-one male and female subelite distance runners (Young [Y]: 18-39 years [n = 18]; Master [M]: 40-59 years [n = 22]; and Older [O]: 60-older [n = 11]) were measured for RE, step rate, lactate threshold (LT), VO2max, muscle strength and endurance, flexibility, power, and body composition. An RE test was conducted at 4 different velocities (161, 188, 215, and 241 m·min(-1)), with subjects running for 5 minutes at each velocity. The steady-state VO2max during the last minute of each stage was recorded and plotted vs. speed, and a regression equation was formulated. A 1 × 3 analysis of variance revealed no differences in the slopes of the RE regression lines among age groups (y = 0.1827x - 0.2974; R2 = 0.9511 [Y]; y = 0.1988x - 1.0416; R2 = 0.9697 [M]; y = 0.1727x + 3.0252; R2 = 0.9618 [O]). The VO2max was significantly lower in the O group compared to in the Y and M groups (Y = 64.1 ± 3.2; M = 56.8 ± 2.7; O = 44.4 ± 1.7 mlO2·kg(-1)·min(-1)). The maximal heart rate and velocity @ LT were significantly different among all age groups (Y = 197 ± 4; M = 183 ± 2; O = 170 ± 6 b·min(-1) and Y = 289.7 ± 27.0; M = 251.5 ± 32.9; O = 212.3 ± 24.6 m·min(-1), respectively). The VO2max @ LT was significantly lower in the O group compared to in the Y and M groups (Y = 50.3 ± 2.0; M = 48.8 ± 2.9; O = 34.9 ± 3.2 mlO2·kg(-1)·min(-1)). The O group was significantly lower than in the Y and M groups in flexibility, power, and upper body strength. Multiple regression analyses showed that strength and power were significantly related to running velocity. The results from this cross-sectional analysis suggest that age-related declines in running performance are associated with declines in maximal and submaximal cardiorespiratory variables and declines in strength and power, not because of declines in running economy.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the acute effects of exercise on plasma high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and to determine whether the magnitude of this response would be affected by the intensity of the exercise. Twelve men (19-41 yr) ran an equivalent distance (9-12 km) on a treadmill on two separate occasions. On one occasion the exercise was performed at a speed that elicited 60% of the subject's maximal O2 uptake (VO2max), and on the other occasion exercise was performed at a speed that elicited 90% of VO2max. Changes in total cholesterol, triglycerides (TG), HDL-C, HDL apoprotein A (HDL-A), HDL saturation, lactate (LA), and free fatty acids (FFA) were measured during the course of each run, and all values were corrected for changes in plasma volume as indicated by hematocrit. There were significant increases (P less than 0.01) in HDL-C, HDL-A, and HDL saturation with exercise at both intensities, but greater increases in HDL-C (25 vs. 14%) and HDL-A (18 vs. 8%) were observed with the higher intensity exercise. Plasma FFA and TG did not differ between conditions, but LA concentrations rose significantly during the high-intensity exercise. These results indicate that increases in HDL components can occur with a relatively moderate exercise session and that the magnitude of these increases are directly related to the exercise intensity.  相似文献

Race walking is the technical and athletic expression of fast walking and it can be considered as a type of endurance performance. The purpose of this study was to examine whether 12 weeks of a specially designed training program results in the further training enhancement of endurance performance and the related physiological parameters in already well-trained race walkers competing at the national and international level. The investigation protocol consisted of determining the maximal oxygen uptake (VO2peak) and related gas exchange values using an automated cardiopulmonary exercise system and of determining blood lactate variables (aerobic threshold - LTAer and the maximal lactate steady state - MLSS) during walking with proper technique at 8, 10, 12 and 14 km·h-1 for 4 minutes without rest in between. Thereafter, the speed on the treadmill was increased by 0.5 km·h-1 every two minutes until exhaustion to determine VO2peak. After 12 weeks of a specially designed endurance training, statistically significant increases in VO2peak (61.8±8.5 mL·kg-1·min-1 pre vs. 66.9±9.5 mL·kg-1·min-1 post training; p<0.05) and blood lactate variables (VO2-LTAer and VO2-MLSS; p<0.05) were noted. The obtained results suggest that the applied training program can improve endurance and race performance in previously well trained race walkers.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to investigate the potential variations in cardiorespiratory and metabolic parameters and running performance among 3 modes of exercise of the same duration, namely, intermittent running with active recovery (AR) or passive recovery (PR) and continuous running (CR) and whether these variations could affect passive recovery time (PRT). Fifteen male physical education students with a subspecialty in soccer were studied (mean age 22.3 ± 2.5 years, training experience 12.3 ± 2.5 years) in the middle of the playing season. The results showed that during exercise, the highest heart rate (HR) and VO2 values were observed in CR, whereas the lowest values in PR followed by AR. Blood lactate (BLa) concentration was higher in PR by 38% compared to that in AR (p < 0.05). The exercise duration was similar between PR and AR tests and longer than in CR. With regard to PRT, the highest HR (186 ± 9 b · min(-1)), VO2 (55.5 ± 5.2 ml · kg(-1) · min(-1)), and BLa (5.1 ± 1.7 mmol · L(-1)) values were found in CR. No differences in HR and VO2 between PR and AR were detected. However, despite the differences in BLa concentration between AR and PR during exercise, the PRT BLa values between these 2 exercise modes were not different. Among the 3 running protocols, only CR appeared to have fully challenged the cardiorespiratory system inducing maximal HR and VO2 responses during exercise and high BLa values in PRT, yet these responses were not associated with better exercise performance compared to intermittent running. Therefore, intermittent exercise, regardless of implementing passive or active interval, might be the preferable exercise mode particularly in activities extended over 30 minutes.  相似文献

During exercise, contracting muscles can override sympathetic vasoconstrictor activity (functional sympatholysis). ATP and adenosine have been proposed to play a role in skeletal muscle blood flow regulation. However, little is known about the role of muscle training status on functional sympatholysis and ATP- and adenosine-induced vasodilation. Eight male subjects (22 ± 2 yr, Vo(2max): 49 ± 2 ml O(2)·min(-1)·kg(-1)) were studied before and after 5 wk of one-legged knee-extensor training (3-4 times/wk) and 2 wk of immobilization of the other leg. Leg hemodynamics were measured at rest, during exercise (24 ± 4 watts), and during arterial ATP (0.94 ± 0.03 μmol/min) and adenosine (5.61 ± 0.03 μmol/min) infusion with and without coinfusion of tyramine (11.11 μmol/min). During exercise, leg blood flow (LBF) was lower in the trained leg (2.5 ± 0.1 l/min) compared with the control leg (2.6 ± 0.2 l/min; P < 0.05), and it was higher in the immobilized leg (2.9 ± 0.2 l/min; P < 0.05). Tyramine infusion lowers LBF similarly at rest, but, when tyramine was infused during exercise, LBF was blunted in the immobilized leg (2.5 ± 0.2 l/min; P < 0.05), whereas it was unchanged in the control and trained leg. Mean arterial pressure was lower during exercise with the trained leg compared with the immobilized leg (P < 0.05), and leg vascular conductance was similar. During ATP infusion, the LBF response was higher after immobilization (3.9 ± 0.3 and 4.5 ± 0.6 l/min in the control and immobilized leg, respectively; P < 0.05), whereas it did not change after training. When tyramine was coinfused with ATP, LBF was reduced in the immobilized leg (P < 0.05) but remained similar in the control and trained leg. Training increased skeletal muscle P2Y2 receptor content (P < 0.05), whereas it did not change with immobilization. These results suggest that muscle inactivity impairs functional sympatholysis and that the magnitude of hyperemia and blood pressure response to exercise is dependent on the training status of the muscle. Firefighting is a strenuous occupation that requires optimal levels of physical fitness. The National Fire Protection Association suggests that firefighters should be allowed to exercise on duty to maintain adequate fitness levels. However, no research has addressed the effect of exercise-induced fatigue on subsequent fire ground performance. Therefore, the primary purpose of this study was to determine the effect that a single exercise session had on the performance of a simulated fire ground test (SFGT). Secondarily, this study sought to compare the effect of physical training status (i.e., trained vs. untrained firefighters) on the performance of an SFGT. Twelve trained (age: 31.8 ± 6.9 years; body mass index [BMI]: 27.7 ± 3.3 kg·m(-2); VO2peak: 45.6 ± 3.3 ml·kg(-1)·min(-1)) and 37 untrained (age: 31.0 ± 9.0 years; BMI: 31.3 ± 5.2 kg·m(-2); VO2peak: 40.2 ± 5.2 ml·kg(-1)·min(-1)) male career firefighters performed a baseline SFGT. The trained firefighters performed a second SFGT after an exercise session. Time to complete the SFGT, heart rate, and blood lactate were compared between baseline and exercise SFGT (EX-SFGT) conditions. In the trained firefighters, time to complete the SFGT (9.6% increase; p = 0.002) and heart rate (4.1% increase; p = 0.032) were greater during the EX-SFGT compared with baseline, with no difference in post-SFGT blood lactate (p = 0.841). The EX-SFGT time of the trained firefighters was faster than approximately 70% of the untrained firefighters' baseline SFGT time. In addition, the baseline SFGT time of the trained firefighters was faster than 81% of the untrained firefighters. This study demonstrated that on-duty exercise training reduced the work efficiency in firefighters. However, adaptations obtained through regular on-duty exercise training may limit decrements in work efficiency because of acute exercise fatigue and allow for superior work efficiency compared with not participating in a training program.  相似文献

Emerging evidence indicates that, besides dyspnea relief, an improvement in locomotor muscle oxygen delivery may also contribute to enhanced exercise tolerance following normoxic heliox (replacement of inspired nitrogen by helium) administration in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Whether blood flow redistribution from intercostal to locomotor muscles contributes to this improvement currently remains unknown. Accordingly, the objective of this study was to investigate whether such redistribution plays a role in improving locomotor muscle oxygen delivery while breathing heliox at near-maximal [75% peak work rate (WR(peak))], maximal (100%WR(peak)), and supramaximal (115%WR(peak)) exercise in COPD. Intercostal and vastus lateralis muscle perfusion was measured in 10 COPD patients (FEV(1) = 50.5 ± 5.5% predicted) by near-infrared spectroscopy using indocyanine green dye. Patients undertook exercise tests at 75 and 100%WR(peak) breathing either air or heliox and at 115%WR(peak) breathing heliox only. Patients did not exhibit exercise-induced hyperinflation. Normoxic heliox reduced respiratory muscle work and relieved dyspnea across all exercise intensities. During near-maximal exercise, quadriceps and intercostal muscle blood flows were greater, while breathing normoxic heliox compared with air (35.8 ± 7.0 vs. 29.0 ± 6.5 and 6.0 ± 1.3 vs. 4.9 ± 1.2 ml·min(-1)·100 g(-1), respectively; P < 0.05; mean ± SE). In addition, compared with air, normoxic heliox administration increased arterial oxygen content, as well as oxygen delivery to quadriceps and intercostal muscles (from 47 ± 9 to 60 ± 12, and from 8 ± 1 to 13 ± 3 mlO(2)·min(-1)·100 g(-1), respectively; P < 0.05). In contrast, normoxic heliox had neither an effect on systemic nor an effect on quadriceps or intercostal muscle blood flow and oxygen delivery during maximal or supramaximal exercise. Since intercostal muscle blood flow did not decrease by normoxic heliox administration, blood flow redistribution from intercostal to locomotor muscles does not represent a likely mechanism of improvement in locomotor muscle oxygen delivery. Our findings might not be applicable to patients who hyperinflate during exercise.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to compare time spent at a high percentage of VO2max (>90% of VO2max) (ts90%), time to achieve 90% of VO2max (ta90%), and time to exhaustion (TTE) for exercise in the severe intensity domain in children and adults. Fifteen prepubertal boys (10.3 ± 0.9 years) and 15 men (23.5 ± 3.6 years) performed a maximal graded exercise to determine VO2max, maximal aerobic power (MAP) and power at ventilatory threshold (PVTh). Then, they performed 4 constant load exercises in a random order at PVTh plus 50 and 75% of the difference between MAP and PVTh (PΔ50 and PΔ75) and 100 and 110% of MAP (P100 and P110). VO2max was continuously monitored. The P110 test was used to determine maximal accumulated oxygen deficit (MAOD). No significant difference was found in ta90% between children and adults. ts90% and TTE were not significantly different between children and adults for the exercises at PΔ50 and PΔ75. However, ts90% and TTE during P100 (p < 0.05 and p < 0.01, respectively) and P110 (p < 0.001) exercises were significantly shorter in children. Children had a significantly lower MAOD than adults (34.3 ± 9.4 ml · kg vs. 53.6 ± 11.1 ml · kg). A positive relationship (p < 0.05) was obtained between MAOD and TTE values during the P100 test in children. This study showed that only for intensities at, or higher than MAP, lower ts90% in children was linked to a reduced TTE, compared to adults. Shorter TTE in children can partly be explained by a lower anaerobic capacity (MAOD). These results give precious information about exercise intensity ranges that could be used in children's training sessions. Moreover, they highlight the implication of both aerobic and anaerobic processes in endurance performances in both populations.  相似文献

The effect of an exercise-induced reduction in blood O2-carrying capacity on ventilatory gas exchange and acid-base balance during supramaximal exercise was studied in six males [peak O2 consumption (VO2peak), 3.98 +/- 0.49 l/min]. Three consecutive days of supramaximal exercise resulted in a preexercise reduction of hemoglobin concentration from 15.8 to 14.0 g/dl (P less than 0.05). During exercise (120% VO2peak) performed intermittently (1 min work to 4 min rest); a small but significant (P less than 0.05) increase was found for both O2 consumption (VO2) (l X min) and heart rate (beats/min) on day 2 of the training. On day 3, VO2 (l/min) was reduced 3.2% (P less than 0.05) over day 1 values. No changes were found in CO2 output and minute ventilation during exercise between training days. Similarly, short-term training failed to significantly alter the changes in arterialized blood PCO2, pH, and [HCO-3] observed during exercise. It is concluded that hypervolemia-induced reductions in O2-carrying capacity in the order of 10-11% cause minimal impairment to gas exchange and acid-base balance during supramaximal non-steady-state exercise.  相似文献

Critical power (CP) is a theoretical workload representative of an athlete's maximal sustainable pace. Recent research has validated a 3-minute all-out test on a cycle ergometer for determining CP; however, few studies have investigated the sustainability of CP using this test. The purpose of this study was to determine the sustainability of CP established during the 3-minute test and the determinants of sustainability. A group of elite cyclists (N = 21) performed a VO2max test, 3-minute all-out test, and a time to exhaustion (TTE) trial at CP on 3 different days separated by at least 24 hours. Expired gases were collected during all trials and analyzed for VO2 and VCO2. Heart rate was measured by telemetry. Multiple regression was used to determine predictors of sustainability with significance predetermined at p < 0.05. VO2max was measured at 58.9 ± 5.6 ml·kg(-1)·min(-1), ventilation breakpoint at 44.9 ± 5.7 ml·kg(-1)·min(-1) (75% VO2max), and maximum heart rate at 179 ± 10 b·min(-1). Peak power (PP) in the 3-minute all-out test was measured at 738 ± 170 W, and CP was determined at 305 ± 32 W or 79% of VO2max. The VO2 at CP was 55.4 ± 6.9 ml·kg(-1)·min(-1), representing 94% of measured VO2max. The mean TTE at CP was 14.79 ± 8.38 minutes. The difference score of PP - CP significantly predicted TTE (r = 0.65, p < 0.05). No other measured variables contributed to this prediction. Based on sustainability, these data suggest that the 3-minute all-out test may overestimate CP in elite cyclists, which could lead to overtraining if CP determined with this test is used to identify training intensities.  相似文献

To evaluate the effects of endurance training on the expression of monocarboxylate transporters (MCT) in human vastus lateralis muscle, we compared the amounts of MCT1 and MCT4 in total muscle preparations (MU) and sarcolemma-enriched (SL) and mitochondria-enriched (MI) fractions before and after training. To determine if changes in muscle lactate release and oxidation were associated with training-induced changes in MCT expression, we correlated band densities in Western blots to lactate kinetics determined in vivo. Nine weeks of leg cycle endurance training [75% peak oxygen consumption (VO(2 peak))] increased muscle citrate synthase activity (+75%, P < 0.05) and percentage of type I myosin heavy chain (+50%, P < 0.05); percentage of MU lactate dehydrogenase-5 (M4) isozyme decreased (-12%, P < 0.05). MCT1 was detected in SL and MI fractions, and MCT4 was localized to the SL. Muscle MCT1 contents were consistent among subjects both before and after training; in contrast, MCT4 contents showed large interindividual variations. MCT1 amounts significantly increased in MU, SL, and MI after training (+90%, +60%, and +78%, respectively), whereas SL but not MU MCT4 content increased after training (+47%, P < 0.05). Mitochondrial MCT1 content was negatively correlated to net leg lactate release at rest (r = -0.85, P < 0.02). Sarcolemmal MCT1 and MCT4 contents correlated positively to net leg lactate release at 5 min of exercise at 65% VO(2 peak) (r = 0.76, P < 0.03 and r = 0. 86, P < 0.01, respectively). Results support the conclusions that 1) endurance training increases expression of MCT1 in muscle because of insertion of MCT1 into both sarcolemmal and mitochondrial membranes, 2) training has variable effects on sarcolemmal MCT4, and 3) both MCT1 and MCT4 participate in the cell-cell lactate shuttle, whereas MCT1 facilitates operation of the intracellular lactate shuttle.  相似文献

The purpose of this investigation was to determine the effects of 4 weeks of oral Echinacea (ECH) supplementation on erythropoietin (EPO), red blood cell (RBC) count, running economy (RE), and VO2max. Twenty-four men aged 24.9 ± 4.2 years, height 178.9 ± 7.9 cm, weight 87.9 ± 14.6 kg, body fat 19.3 ± 6.5% were grouped using a double-blind design and self-administered an 8,000-mg·d(-1) dosage of either ECH or placebo (PLA) in 5 × 400 mg × 4 times per day for 28 days. Blood samples were collected and analyzed for RBCs and EPO using automated flow cytometery and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Maximal graded exercise tests (GXTs) were administered to measure VO2max, RE, and heart-rate responses. Analysis of variance was used to determine statistically significant differences (P ≤ 0.05). The EPO increased significantly in ECH at 7 days (ECH: 15.75 ± 0.64, PLA: 10.01 ± 0.73 mU·ml(-1)), 14 days (ECH: 18.88 ± 0.71, PLA: 11.02 ± 0.69 mU·ml(-1)), and 21 days (ECH: 16.06 ± 0.55, PLA: 9.20 ± 0.55 mU·ml(-1)). VO2max increased significantly in ECH (ECH: 1.47 ± 1.28, PLA: -0.13 ± 0.52%). Running economy improved significantly in ECH as indicated by a decrease in submaximal VO2max during the first 2 stages of the GXT (stage 1: ECH -1.50 ± 1.21, PLA 0.60 ± 1.95%; stage 2: ECH -1.67 ± 1.43, PLA 0.01 ± 1.03%). These data suggest that ECH supplementation results in significant increases in EPO, VO2max, and running economy.  相似文献

It has been suggested that the potential for training to alter the physiological responses to exercise in children is related to a "maturational threshold". To address this, we investigated the interaction of swim-training status and maturity on cardiovascular and metabolic responses to lower and upper body exercise. Twenty-one prepubertal [Pre: 11 trained (T), 10 untrained (UT)], 30 pubertal (Pub: 14 T, 16 UT), and 18 postpubertal (Post: 8 T, 10 UT) girls completed ramp incremental exercise on a cycle and an upper body ergometer. In addition to pulmonary gas exchange measurements, stroke volume and cardiac output were estimated by thoracic bioelectrical impedance, and muscle oxygenation status was assessed using near-infrared spectroscopy. All T girls had a higher peak O(2) uptake during cycle (Pre: T 49 ± 5 vs. UT 40 ± 4; Pub: T 46 ± 5 vs. UT 36 ± 4; Post: T 48 ± 5 vs. UT 39 ± 8 ml·kg(-1)·min(-1); all P < 0.05) and upper body exercise (Pre: T 37 ± 6 vs. UT 32 ± 5; Pub: T 36 ± 5 vs. UT 28 ± 5; Post: T 39 ± 3 vs. UT 28 ± 7 ml·kg(-1)·min(-1); all P < 0.05). T girls also had a higher peak cardiac output during both modalities, and this reached significance in Pub (cycle: T 21 ± 3 vs. UT 18 ± 3; upper body: T 20 ± 4 vs. UT 15 ± 4 l/min; all P < 0.05) and Post girls (cycle: T 21 ± 4 vs. UT 17 ± 2; upper body: T 22 ± 3 vs. UT 18 ± 2 l/min; all P < 0.05). None of the measured pulmonary, cardiovascular, or metabolic parameters interacted with maturity, and the magnitude of the difference between T and UT girls was similar, irrespective of maturity stage. These results challenge the notion that differences in training status in young people are only evident once a maturational threshold has been exceeded.  相似文献

This study compared the activation pattern and the fatigue rate among the superficial muscles of the quadriceps femoris (QF) during severe cycling exercise. Peak oxygen consumption (VO(2)peak) and maximal accumulated oxygen Deficit (MAOD) were established by 10 well-trained male cyclists (27.5 ± 4.1 years, 71.0 ± 10.3 kg, 173.4 ± 6.6 cm, mean VO(2)peak 56.7 ± 4.4 ml·kg·min(-1), mean MAOD 5.7 ± 1.1 L). Muscle activity (electromyographic [EMG] signals) was obtained during the supramaximal constant workload test (MAOD) and expressed by root mean square (RMS) and median frequency (MF slope). The RMS of the QF, vastus lateralis (VL) and vastus medialis (VM) muscles were significantly higher than at the beginning after 75% of exercise duration, whereas for the rectus femoris (RF), this was observed after 50% of exercise duration (p ≤ 0.05). The slope of the MF was significantly higher in the RF, followed by the VL and VM (-3.13 ± 0.52 vs. -2.61 ± 0.62 vs. -1.81 ±0.56, respectively; p < 0.05). We conclude that RF may play an important role in limiting performance during severe cycling exercise.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to assess the validity of the American College of Sports Medicine's (ACSM's) submaximal treadmill running test in predicting VO2max. Twenty-one moderately well-trained men aged 18-34 years performed 1 maximal treadmill test to determine maximal oxygen uptake (M VO2max) and 2 submaximal treadmill tests using 4 stages of continuous submaximal exercise. Estimated VO2max was predicted by extrapolation to age-predicted maximal heart rate (HRmax) and calculated in 2 ways: using data from all submaximal stages between 110 b·min(-1) and 85% HRmax (P VO2max-All), and using data from the last 2 stages only (P VO2max-2). The measured VO2max was overestimated by 3% on average for the group but was not significantly different to predicted VO2max (1-way analysis of variance [ANOVA] p = 0.695; M VO2max = 53.01 ± 5.38; P VO2max-All = 54.27 ± 7.16; P VO2max-2 = 54.99 ± 7.69 ml·kg(-1)·min(-1)), although M VO2max was not overestimated in all the participants--it was underestimated in 30% of observations. Pearson's correlation, standard error of estimate (SEE), and total error (E) between measured and predicted VO2max were r = 0.646, 4.35, 4.08 ml·kg(-1)·min(-1) (P VO2max-All) and r = 0.642, 4.21, 3.98 ml·kg(-1)·min(-1) (P VO2max-2) indicating that the accuracy in prediction (error) was very similar whether using P VO2max-All or P VO2max-2, with up to 70% of the participants predicted scores within 1 SEE (~4 ml·kg(-1)·min(-1)) of M VO2max. In conclusion, the ACSM equation provides a reasonably good estimation of VO2max with no difference in predictive accuracy between P VO2max-2 and P VO2max-All, and hence, either approach may be equally useful in tracking an individual's aerobic fitness over time. However, if a precise knowledge of VO2max is required, then it is recommended that this be measured directly.  相似文献
