The composition of the essential oils of nine populations of Cistus parviflorus L., from Crete (Greece) and their interpopulation variability, were investigated by GC-MS. 114 compounds were identified representing an average of 85-96% of oil composition. Labdane diterpenes were detected and identified in the essential oils of Cistus parviflorus L. for the first time. The results obtained from GC-MS analysis of the volatile oils were submitted to principal component and chemometric cluster analysis. Two main chemotypes (clusters) were differentiated; the first of West Crete and the second of East Crete. Carvacrol, caryophyllene oxide, alpha-epi-cadinol, abietatriene, 4-epi-dehydroabietol, dehydro abietol, cis-ferruginol and manoyl oxide mixture of isomers are the main constituents, while oxygenated sesquiterpenes as well as diterpenes have been found in high percentage composition.  相似文献

The chemical composition of the essential oils obtained from two samples (GP1 and GP2) of Grammosciadium platycarpum Boiss. was analyzed by GC and GC-MS. The analysis of the oils resulted in the identification of twenty-two constituents. Linalool (79.0%-GP1, 81.8%-GP2) and limonene (10.0%, 5.8%) were found to be the major components, respectively. The in vitro antibacterial activities of these oils and their main compounds against seven Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria were investigated. The results exhibited that the total oils and their major components possess strong to moderate activities against all the tested bacteria except for Pseudomonas aeruginosa.  相似文献

The chemical composition of the essential oils of twenty-five populations of Cistus creticus subsp. creticus L. from the island of Crete (Greece) and their interpopulation variability were analysed in detail by GC-MS. 142 compounds were identified representing an average of 56.8-89.8% of the oil composition. The components are represented here by homologous series of monoterpenes, oxygenated monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, oxygenated sesquiterpenes, diterpenes, labdane diterpenes, aldehydes, alkanes, esters, fatty acids, ketones, and others. Labdane diterpenes were detected and identified in the essential oils and have been found in high percentage composition. The results from the chemical analysis of the essential oils were submitted to chemometric cluster analysis in order to detect some pattern distribution and to identify which constituents can differentiate the groups of individuals. Two main chemotypes (clusters) were well differentiated; the first deals with eight populations of West Crete and the second with the rest of the populations. Cluster analysis based on labdane type diterpenes patterns, proved to be the best chemotype for the examined populations among the other chemical groups.  相似文献

The essential oils of air-dried Centaurea sessilis and Centaurea armena obtained by hydrodistillation were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Forty and twenty components were identified in the essential oils and the main component of these taxons was beta-eudesmol in the ratios of 12.4% and 19.3% from C. sessilis and C. armena, respectively. The antimicrobial activity of the isolated essential oil of the plants was also investigated. They showed moderate antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, but no antifungal activity was observed against two yeastlike fungi.  相似文献

In this study the glandular hair morphology, chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of the essential oils from three Ocimum species have been investigated (Ocimum basilicum L. var. Genovese, O. gratissimum and O. tenuiflorum). The indumentum shows little variation among the investigated species with both glandular and non-glandular hairs presents. Glandular hairs on the three species are peltate and capitate (with various cell numbers in the stalk and gland). The samples of essential oils obtained from the plant aerial organs by hydrodistillation have been analyzed by GC-MS. Linalool (65.38%, 74.22%, 38.60%), eugenol (5.26%, 3.47%, 10.20%) and tau-cadinol (8.18%, 3.47%, 10.20%) appear as the main components in Ocimum basilicum L. var. Genovese, O. gratissimum and O. tenuiflorum. The oils also contain lower levels of α-bergamotene, 1,8-cineole, germacrene D, β-ocimene, α-caryophyllene, camphor, and α-guaiene. All essential oils showed antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli depending on their concentration. Ocimum basilicum L. var. Genovese oil produced the strongest antibacterial effect on S. aureus and E. coli.  相似文献

This study focuses on how allelopathic mechanisms may be involved in the floristic composition and dynamics of Cistus albidus shrubbery. Allelopathic potential of essential oils was measured for Lactuca sativa (toxicity for other species) and Cistus albidus (self-toxicity). These oils have little effect on germination but significantly increase, even in low quantities, the number of unviable seedlings and inhibit normal seedling growth. These results explain, at least partially, the existence of monospecific stands over several years and the lack of natural regeneration of the Cistus albidus populations. Bioassays performed using natural aerial leachates of Cistus albidus revealed no significant effects on the above-mentioned parameters. Leaching does not seem to be an important means of allelochemicals release. Nevertheless, essential oils have been quantified in litter and soil, indicating a possible occurrence of allelopathy in such ecosystems.  相似文献

The essential oils of Daucus carota L. (Apiaceae) seeds sampled from ten wild populations spread over northern Tunisia were characterized by GC‐FID and GC/MS analyses. In total, 36 compounds were identified in the D. carota seed essential oils, with a predominance of sesquiterpene hydrocarbons in most samples (22.63–89.93% of the total oil composition). The main volatile compounds identified were β‐bisabolene (mean content of 39.33%), sabinene (8.53%), geranyl acetate (7.12%), and elemicin (6.26%). The volatile composition varied significantly across the populations, even for oils of populations harvested in similar areas. The chemometric principal component analysis and the hierarchical clustering identified four groups, each corresponding to a composition‐specific chemotype. The in vitro antimicrobial activity of the isolated essential oils was preliminarily evaluated, using the disk‐diffusion method, against one Gram‐positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and two Gram‐negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium), as well as against a pathogenic yeast (Candida albicans). All tested essential oils exhibited interesting antibacterial and antifungal activities against the assayed microorganisms.  相似文献

The chemical composition of the volatile fractions obtained by steam distillation from the capitula (C) and the aerial parts of Rhaponticum acaule DC were analysed by GC-MS. From the 57 identified constituents, representing 95.5% and 96.3% of the two oils, respectively, methyl eugenol, epi-13 manool, beta-ionone, beta-bisabolol, 1-octadecanol, phytol and farnesyl acetate were found to be the main components. Furthermore, the oils were tested against six Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and four phytopathogenic fungi. It was found that oils from both parts of R. acaule, and especially that of C, exhibited interesting antibacterial activity, but no antifungal activity was observed.  相似文献

As part of ongoing research on the chemical composition and the antimicrobial properties of Burkinabe plants essential oils alone and in combination, essential oils (EOs) from leaves of Cymbopogon citratus and Cymbopogon giganteus from Burkina Faso were analyzed by GC-FID and GC-MS. Five constituents, which accounted for 96.3% of the oil, were identified in the EO of C. citratus. Geranial (48.1%), neral (34.6%) and myrcene (11.0%) were the major constituents. For C. giganteus a total of eight compounds were identified which represented 86.0% of the oils extracted. The dominant compounds were limonene (42%) and a set of monoterpene alcohols: trans-p-mentha-1(7),8-dien-2-ol (14.2%), cis-p-mentha-1(7),8-dien-2-ol (12%), trans-p-mentha-2,8-dien-1-ol (5.6%) and cis-p-mentha-2,8-dien-1-ol (5.2%). The EOs were tested against nine bacteria by using disc diffusion and microdilution methods. C. giganteus EO showed antimicrobial effects against all microorganisms tested whereas C. citratus EO failed to inhibit Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The antimicrobial activity of combinations of the two EOs was quantified by the checkerboard method. Combinations of the two EOs exerted synergistic, additive and indifferent antimicrobial effects. Results of the present investigation provide evidence that the combinations of plant EOs could be assessed for synergistic activity in order to reduce their minimum effective dose.  相似文献

The leaf essential oils of Cistus monspeliensis plants growing wild on calcareous and siliceous soils in Provence (South of France) were analysed by GC and GC-MS. Qualitative and quantitative differences are noted in the essential oil composition between the Cistus populations from the two soil types. The volatile composition of eight Stachys species has been studied. The investigated taxa were St. alopecuros (L.) Bentham., St. scardica (Griseb.) Hayek, St. cretica L. ssp. cretica, St. germanica L. ssp. heldreichii (Boiss.) Hayek, St. recta L., St. spinulosa L., St. euboica Rech. and St. menthifolia Vis., growing wild in Greece. The essential oils were obtained by hydrodistillation in a modified Clevenger-type apparatus, and their analyses were performed by GC and GC-MS. Identification of the substances was made by comparison of mass spectra and retention indices with literature records. Sesquiterpene hydrocarbons were shown to be the main group of constituents of all taxa. Furthermore, the obtained essential oils were tested against the following six bacteria: Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 27853), Escherichia coli (ATCC 35210), Bacillus subtilis (ATCC 10907), Bacillus cereus (clinical isolates), Micrococcus flavus (ATCC 10240), Staphylococcus epidermidis (ATCC 2228), as well as against the following five fungi: Aspergillus niger (ATCC 6275), Penicillium ochrochloron (ATCC 9112), Epidermophyton floccosum (clinical isolates), Candida albicans (clinical isolates) and Trichophyton mentagrophytes (clinical isolates). The tested essential oils showed better activity against bacterial species than against fungi. Pseudomonas aeruginosa was the most resistant strain, as none of the essential oils was active against this strain. The essential oil of St. scardica has been proven most active against both bacteria and fungi.  相似文献

The chemical composition of the Tamarix boveana volatile oils obtained from the whole aerial part, flowers, leaves and stems by steam distillation was analysed using gas chromatograph (GC)-flame ionization detectors (FID) and GC-MS. Sixty-two components were identified. Hexadecanoic acid (18.14%), docosane (13.34%), germacrene D (7.68%), fenchyl acetate (7.34%), Benzyl benzoate (4.11%) were found to be the major components in the whole aerial parts. This composition differed according to the tested part: 2.4 Nonadienal was the main compound in the flowers (12.13%) while germacrene D was the major component in leaves (31.43%) and hexadecanoic acid in the stems (13.94%). To evaluate in vitro antimicrobial activity, all volatile oils were tested against six Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and four fungi. The T. boveana volatile oils exhibited an interesting antibacterial activity against all strains tested except Pseudomonas aeruginosa but no antifungal activity was detected.  相似文献

IntroductionThe use of chemical products to neutralize microorganisms has always been a subject of discussion and research for alternative solutions, indeed, the use of essential oils has been a promising natural methodology.MethodsIn our study we used the essential oils from different parts of Thapsia transtagana (Apiaceae), obtained by hydrodistillation, were identified and using Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) and Gas Chromatography-Flame Ionization Detection (GC/FID) methods and evaluated against several bacteria of Gram- and Gram + bacteria. Disk diffusion, Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Microbicidal Concentration (MMC) methods have been used. Free radical-scavenging activity and insecticidal activity of Thapsia transtagana essential oils were also identified.ResultsMajority products from different parts of Thapsia transtagana essential oil identified by GC–MS and GC/FID methods are 2,6-Dimethylnaphthalene, Pinane and Hexahydrofarnesyl acetone. The highest activity was found against Staphylococcus aureus using inflorescence essential oil with minimal inhibitory concentration value for 0,56 μg/μL. Insecticidal activity was also the subject of this study, roots and inflorescence essential oils demonstrated to have a remarkable potent against Acanthoscelides obtectus and Sitophilus oryzae using contact assessment, inhalation assessment and ingestion assessment tests. Insecticidal activity assay results showed a significant enhancement of mortality in both test insect pest on increasing the dose and exposure period. In the other hand, the different essential oils of Thapsia transtagana were evaluated for their radical scavenging activities by means of the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) assay. The strongest scavenging activity was observed in inflorescences essential oil fraction scavenged radicals effectively at 100% using 500 mgL-1 concentration.ConclusionIts essential oils were proved to have strong antimicrobial, insecticidal and antioxidant activities that allows it to be used by the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries as natural preservative.  相似文献

This study aimed to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli and Clostridium tyrobutyricum, common bacteria responsible for early and late cheese blowing defects respectively, by using novel aqueous extracts obtained by dynamic solid–liquid extraction and essential oils obtained by solvent free microwave extraction from 12 aromatic plants. In terms of antibacterial activity, a total of 13 extracts inhibited one of the two bacteria, and only two essential oils, Lavandula angustifolia Mill. and Lavandula hybrida, inhibited both. Four aqueous extracts were capable of inhibiting C. tyrobutyricum, but none were effective against E. coli. After extracts’ chemical composition identification, relationship between the identified compounds and their antibacterial activity were performed by partial least square regression models revealing that compounds such as 1,8 cineole, linalool, linalyl acetate, β-phellandrene or verbene (present in essential oils), pinocarvone, pinocamphone or coumaric acid derivate (in aqueous extracts) were compounds highly correlated to the antibacterial activity.  相似文献

The chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of essential oils of Laserpitium latifolium and L. ochridanum were investigated. The essential oils were isolated by steam distillation and characterized by GC‐FID and GC/MS analyses. All essential oils were distinguished by high contents of monoterpenes, and α‐pinene was the most abundant compound in the essential oils of L. latifolium underground parts and fruits (contents of 44.4 and 44.0%, resp.). The fruit essential oil was also rich in sabinene (26.8%). Regarding the L. ochridanum essential oils, the main constituents were limonene in the fruit oil (57.7%) and sabinene in the herb oil (25.9%). The antimicrobial activity of these essential oils as well as that of L. ochridanum underground parts, whose composition was reported previously, was tested by the broth‐microdilution method against four Gram‐positive and three Gram‐negative bacteria and two Candida albicans strains. Except the L. latifolium underground‐parts essential oil, the other investigated oils showed a high antimicrobial potential against Staphylococcus aureus, S. epidermidis, Micrococcus luteus, or Candida albicans (minimal inhibitory concentrations of 13.0–73.0 μg/ml), comparable to or even higher than that of thymol, which was used as reference compound.  相似文献

The antifungal activities of cinnamon oil, clove oil, anise oil, and peppermint oil, and their main components (cinnamaldehyde, eugenol, trans-anethole, and menthol, respectively) against molds identified from areca palm leaf sheath (Mucor dimorphosporus, Penicillium sp., Aspergillus niger, and Rhizopus sp.) were investigated. An agar dilution method was employed to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of essential oils and their main components. Zone inhibition tests and the inhibitory effect of the leaf sheath dip-treated with essential oils against those molds were examined. Major components of essential oils on the leaf sheath during storage were quantified by gas chromatography analysis. The MIC values of essential oils on agar and on the leaf sheath were identical. With an MIC of 50 ??g ml−1, cinnamon oil had the strongest inhibitory effect. At their MICs the oils were capable of providing protection against mold growth on the leaf sheath for at least 12 weeks during storage at 25 °C and 100% RH. Scanning electron microscope examination showed that essential oils prevented spore germination. Except for menthol in peppermint oil, the main components of the essential oils, which were fairly stable over the storage period, largely contributed to the antifungal activity.  相似文献

The chemical composition of the essential oils of Lippia chevalieri and Lippia multiflora obtained from the air-dried leaves by hydrodistillation were analysed using GC and GC-MS. L. chevalieri and L. multiflora belonged to thymol/p-cymene/2-phenyl ethyl propionate and thymol/p-cymene/thymyl acetate chemotypes, respectively. The essential oils were also tested against 09 strains using a broth microdilution method. The Gram-negative bacteria were the most sensitive. In dry-summer seasonal climates, the beginning of the rainy season can prompt germination under different temperatures, depending on altitude. Understanding germination responses to temperature with altitude is important in fire-prone environments for species regenerating after fire from seeds (seeders), particularly under changing climate. Here we investigated the role of temperature in four Mediterranean seeder shrubs from Central Spain. Seeds from 17 sites (285–1,253 m altitude), of two hard-seeded nanophanerophytes (Cistus ladanifer and C. salviifolius) and two soft-seeded chamaephytes (Lavandula pedunculata and Thymus mastichina) were investigated. Intact and heat shock treated seeds were set to germinate under four temperature regimes, including a treatment simulating future warming. GLM with binomial or gamma functions were used to test treatment effects using altitude as a covariate. Altitude was a significant covariate only in L. pedunculata. Temperature did not affect final germination in either Cistus, but it significantly affected T. mastichina, and interacted with altitude in L. pedunculata, whereby the higher the altitude the less it germinated with decreasing temperature. Germination speed (T50) was lower at colder temperatures in all but C. salviifolius that was insensitive to our treatments. Heat shock significantly increased final germination in both Cistus and T. mastichina, but did not interact with temperature or altitude. We conclude that germination response to temperature, including varying sensitivity with altitude, differed among these species; thus, changes in the timing of the onset of the rainy season will diversely affect populations at various altitudes. We discuss our results in a context of changing climate and fire.  相似文献

通过水蒸汽同步蒸馏法提取玫瑰精油,采用GC-MS方法分析了玫瑰精油的化学组成,共鉴定出其中14个化学成分并测定其相对含量,占总含量的95.25%。香茅醇为玫瑰精油的主要成分,相对含量为90.37%。体外抑菌实验表明,玫瑰精油除对黑曲霉没有抗菌活性外,对其它7种供试菌均具有不同程度的抑制作用,其中对表皮葡萄球菌、金黄色葡萄球菌和大肠杆菌的最小抑菌浓度(MIC)为0.063%(v/v),对枯草芽孢杆菌、变形杆菌和白色念珠菌的最小抑菌浓度(MIC)为0.125%(v/v),而对绿脓杆菌(Pseudomonas aeruginosa)的抗菌活性相对较弱,MIC为0.5%(v/v)。抑菌直径结果也表明了玫瑰精油除对黑曲霉、绿脓杆菌的抗菌活性较弱外,对其它6种菌株的抑菌直径都大于8.5 mm。考察了玫瑰精油对3种敏感菌株包括金黄色葡萄球菌(革兰氏阳性菌)、大肠杆菌(革兰氏阴性菌)和白色念珠菌(真菌)的杀菌动态过程,为玫瑰精油的应用提供了理论依据。  相似文献

The unceasing emerging of multidrug-resistant bacteria imposes a global foremost human health threat and discovery of new alternative remedies are necessity. The use of plant essential oil in the treatment of many pathogenic bacteria is promising. Acne vulgaris is the most common skin complaint that fears many people about their aesthetic appearance. In this work we investigated the antibacterial activity of some plant oils against acne-inducing bacteria. Three bacterial isolates were identified from Egypt, biochemically and by means of 16s rRNA gene typing, and were designated as Staphylococcus aureus EG-AE1, Staphylococcus epidermidis EG-AE2 and Cutibacterium acnes EG-AE1. Antibiotic susceptibility test showed resistance of the isolates to at least six antibiotics, yet they are still susceptible to the last resort Vancomycin. In vitro investigations of eleven Egyptian plant oils, identified tea tree and rosemary oils to exhibit antibacterial activity against the antibiotic-resistant acne isolates. Inhibition zones of 15 ± 0.5, 21.02 ± 0.73 and 20.85 ± 0.76 mm was detected when tea tree oil applied against the above-mentioned bacteria respectively, while inhibition zones of 12.5 ± 1.5, 15.18 ± 0.38 and 14.77 ± 0.35 mm were detected by rosemary oils. Tea tree and rosemary oils exhibited bacteriostatic and bactericidal activity against all the strains with MICs/MBCs ranging between 39-78 mg/L for tea tree oil and 39–156 mg/L for rosemary oil. All the isolates were killed after 4 and 6 h upon growing with 200 mg/L of tea tree and rosemary oils, respectively. Additionally, gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC/MS) profiling identified and detected a variable number of antimicrobial compounds in both oils.  相似文献
