We describe here the parasitoid wasps Torymus sinensis Kamijo and T. beneficus Yasumatsu & Kamijo (early-spring and late-spring strains), which are introduced and indigenous natural enemies of the chestnut gall wasp Dryocosmus kuriphilus Yasumatsu, an invasive chestnut pest in Japan. We recently discovered specimens of T. koreanus Kamijo, endemic in Korea, among Torymus parasitoids collected from D. kuriphilus galls in a Japanese chestnut orchard. In this study we compare the composition of Torymus parasitoids emerging from D. kuriphilus galls before and after the release of T. sinensis. Before the release of T. sinensis, early-spring and late-spring strains of T. beneficus predominated (58.3 and 20.8% of specimens collected). However, a few years after the release, both T. beneficus strains had been almost completely displaced by T. sinensis. In contrast to the rapid decrease in T. beneficus, T. koreanus did not decrease drastically before and even after the release of T. sinensis (approximately 10–20% of specimens collected). These results suggest that not a few T. koreanus were present in the Japanese chestnut orchard investigated at least several years after the release of T. sinensis, although both the T. beneficus strains were rapidly displaced by T. sinensis during this period.  相似文献

Adults of the woodwasp Tremex longicollis Konow (Hymenoptera: Siricidae) oviposit in the wood of dying Celtis sinensis trees using their ovipositors, and adults of the parasitoid Megarhyssa jezoensis (Matsumura) (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) deposit eggs into the woodwasp larvae that live in the wood, also using their long ovipositors. Many T. longicollis ovipositors, both with and without abdominal segments, and a M. jezoensis ovipositor were found stuck in C. sinensis wood at two parks in Osaka Prefecture, central Japan. Field observations showed that ovipositing woodwasps and parasitoids were attacked by predators during the daytime, and their ovipositors were left behind in the wood. Woodwasps and their parasitoids, which have long ovipositors, may be vulnerable to predation during oviposition.  相似文献

The study conducted in 2005–2010 analyzes the behavioral response of the parasitoids Latibulus argiolus (Rossi) (Hymenoptera, Ichneumonidae) and Elasmus schmitti Ruschka (Hymenoptera, Eulophidae) to the distribution of their host, Polistes wasps (Hymenoptera, Vespidae). Various conditions of the parasitoid-host system and conditions of regulation of the host abundance are discussed. The parasitoid females are more active in wasp colony clusters and tend to infest larger nests. If the parasitoids are abundant, infestation of host colonies starts earlier, sometimes before the worker emergence; therefore, density-dependent behavioral response of parasitoids is caused primarily by the impact of the aggregation component. Thus, the host population density factor appears to be mediated not only by the non-uniform development rates of colonies and their spatial distribution, but also by the seasonal (temporal) aspect of their development. Low density of the host population, at which the parasitoids regulate the wasp abundance, corresponds to a certain phase of the seasonal colony development, namely to the period before the emergence of workers. On the whole, we are dealing with a host-parasitoid system in which the spatial and temporal factors are closely interrelated.  相似文献

Trissolcus species (Hymenoptera: Scelionidae) are the most promising biological control agents against sunn pest. The accurate identification of natural enemies is crucial in order to develop successful biological control programs. This paper presents phylogenetic analyses of Trissolcus species based on data sets consisting of 18S, 28S, ITS1, ITS2 and cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) genes. The most commonly used genetic loci in Trissolcus species identification is the cytochrome oxidase I gene (COI). Also restriction fragment length polymorphism analyses of PCR amplified COI gene have been developed to discriminate closely related species. We suggest that Trissolcus grandis Thompson and Trissolcus semistriatus Nees split significantly into two different genetic groups while there is another species diverging from T. semistriatus which is decsribed as ‘Trissolcus flavotibialis Kocak & Guz, n. sp.’  相似文献

Abstract Fitness and efficacy of Encarsia sophia (Girault & Dodd) (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae) as a biological control agent was compared on two species of whitefly (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) hosts, the relatively smaller sweetpotato whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) biotype ‘B’, and the larger greenhouse whitefly, Trialeurodes vaporariorum (Westwood). Significant differences were observed on green bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) in the laboratory at 27 ± 2°C, 55%± 5% RH, and a photoperiod of 14: 10 h (L: D). Adult parasitoids emerging from T. vaporariorum were larger than those emerging from B. tabaci, and almost all biological parameters of E. sophia parasitizing the larger host species were superior except for the developmental times of the parasitoids that were similar when parasitizing the two host species. Furthermore, parasitoids emerging from T. vaporariorum parasitized more of these hosts than did parasitoids emerging from B. tabaci. We conclude that E. sophia reared from larger hosts had better fitness than from smaller hosts. Those from either host also preferred the larger host for oviposition but were just as effective on smaller hosts. Therefore, larger hosts tended to produce better parasitoids than smaller hosts.  相似文献

Aphidius colemani (Braconidae: Aphidiinae) is an endoparasitoid and one of the most commercially used parasitoids for the control of various pest aphids. However, species identification of A. colemani is difficult because of the high degree of morphological similarity with closely associated species, such as A. transcaspicus and A. platensis. Recently, we identified a large-scale emergence of parasitoids from mummies of Rhopalosiphum maidis on barley banker plants in Yecheon County, Korea. The morphological characteristics of the forewing, petiole, and antenna indicated that our specimen is A. transcaspicus. The partial nucleotide sequence analysis of the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) gene showed that it is 100% identical to Japanese specimens and 1.69% variable to Greek specimens. Analysis of the phylogenetic tree, haplotypes, and amino acid sequence of the COI gene, as well as the internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) of the nuclear ribosomal DNA region, indicated that A. transcaspicus is closer to A. platensis than A. colemani, and Korean and Japanese populations were mostly diversified groups at the intraspecific level. This study provides important information to elucidate the genetic variation in A. transcaspicus and the relationships between closely related species within the A. colemani group.  相似文献

The role of temperature in the induction of diapause in Trichogramma cordubensis (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae), under controlled laboratory conditions, was investigated using Ephestia kuehniella Zeller (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) eggs as hosts. Results indicate that prestorage temperatures and the duration of exposure of the parasitoids to these temperatures affected the induction of diapause. It was possible to induce diapause in prepupae of T. cordubensis by exposing the preimaginal stages (prior to the prepupal stage) to 10°C for at least 30 days, but adults emerged without diapause when the duration of exposure was of only 10 or 20 days. Parasitoids failed to enter diapause when prestorage temperatures were 7 or 12°C, regardless of the duration of exposure. However, at these two temperatures, preimaginal development of T. cordubensis was delayed, allowing short-term storage (40 days at induction temperatures followed by 30 days at 3°C) by keeping parasitoids in quiescence without reducing the percentages of adult emergence. Good percentages of adult emergence after long-term low-temperature storage (30 or 40 days at 10°C followed by six months at 3°C) occurred only when T. cordubensis was in diapause. The long-term storage of parasitoids in diapause allows an enlargement in the mass rearing potentialities of this species for future biological control releases by allowing producers to stockpile the parasitoids for release in the field season.  相似文献

The olive fruit fly, Bactrocera oleae (Tephritidae), is a significant threat to California's olive industry. As part of a classical biological control program started in 2002, the parasitoids Diachasmimorpha kraussii and D. longicaudata (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) were imported to California from laboratory colonies in Hawaii. Studies on their biology and behavior as parasitoids of the olive fruit fly were conducted in quarantine. Both species tend to oviposit into 2nd and young 3rd instars, with the offspring completing development in the flies’ puparia. Most eggs are deposited in the first two weeks of adult life. Observed lifetime fecundity was low, possibly as a consequence of the relatively poor quality of the harvested olives used as a host substrate. Both pre-imaginal development and adult longevity were limited at constant temperatures above 30°C, which may indicate that these species will have difficulty establishing in the warmest regions of California.  相似文献

The ability to discriminate parasitized and non-parasitized hosts allows the parasitoids to avoid intraspecific and often interspecific competition. In 2005–2009, the incidence of mixed infestation of Polistes nimpha (Christ) colonies by parasitoids Elasmus schmitti Ruschka (Hymenoptera, Eulophidae) and Latibulus argiolus (Rossi) (Hymenoptera, Ichneumonidae) was analyzed. In settlements of different types, the frequencies of mixed infestation deviated from the values expected in case of random distribution. The presence or absence of discrimination ability cannot be confirmed unequivocally based on our material. The data obtained are discussed in relation to the biological features of parasitoids.  相似文献

Parasitoid wasps (Hymenoptera) play a significant role in reducing the pest population of the bagworm species Metisa plana. This study presents the abundance and DNA barcoding information of eight parasitoid wasps species, Dolichogenidea metesae (47%), Brachymeria carinata (19%), Buysmania oxymora (12%), Goryphus bunoh (7%), Pediobius anomalus (5%), Eupelmus cotoxanthae (2%), Apanteles aluella (5%), Apanteles sp.1 (3%) and that emerged from M. plana collected from three highly infested oil palm plantations in Selangor (west), Perak (north) and Johor (south) in Peninsular Malaysia. Samples of infested M. plana were collected from the field and reared in a rearing room. The parasitoid wasp species D. metesae recorded the highest emergence numbers and the broadest presence in all the sampling sites. The relationships among the parasitoids species were estimated and visualized using Neighbor Joining (NJ) phylogenetic analyses with the Ceraphronidae family as an outgroup. The resulting NJ tree showed that the identified parasitoid wasps were successfully classified into specific species and supported with bootstraps values between 55% to 100%. This study provides important information on potential biological control agents for M. plana that may be useful for the Malaysian oil palm industry.  相似文献

Pseudoligosita nephotetticum (Mani) (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) and Gonatocerus (Cosmocomoidea) sp. (Hymenoptera: Mymaridae) have been identified for the first time as egg parasitoids of the sharpshooter leafhopper Kolla paulula (Walker) (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Cicadellinae: Cicadellini) in Taiwan. K. paulula has been recently identified as a candidate vector of the phytopathogenic bacterium Xylella fastidiosa, the causative agent of Pierce's disease of grapes and similar diseases of other affected plants in Taiwan, and thus has become of particular economic importance. Also provided is a summary of the known records of egg parasitoids (Mymaridae and Trichogrammatidae) of other leafhoppers from the tribe Cicadellini in the world, as well as taxonomic notes on P. nephotetticum.  相似文献

The fauna of aphid parasitoids (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Aphidiinae), as well as their diversity and tritrophic (parasitoid-host aphid-host plant) associations in cultivated and non-cultivated areas of Markazi province, was studied during 2004–2009. Thirty species of Aphidiinae belonging to 9 genera were identified. There are presented, in total, 73 associations with 32 host aphids occurring on 42 host plants. Five parasitoid-aphid associations are newly recorded from Iran. Lysiphlebus cardui (Marshall) is newly recorded for the fauna of Iran. Lysiphlebus fabarum (Marshall) and Diaeretiella rapae (M’Intosh) were the most abundant species in non-cultivated (72.96%) and cultivated (41.17%) areas, respectively. In the non-cultivated areas, L. fabarum was found on eight aphid species, while in cultivated areas it was only found on Aphis craccivora Koch. In cultivated areas, Sitobion avenae (F.) has the greatest diversity of parasitoids (Shanon-Weiner H = 0.875) whereas in non-cultivated areas the greatest diversity of parasitoids was recorded upon Acyrthosiphon pisum (Harris) (Shanon-Weiner H = 1.149). Significant differences were found between diversity of two ecosystems based on the overall diversity indices. Both species diversity and evenness were greater in cultivated ecosystems. The results are discussed in relation to the over-all parasitoid-aphid-plant associations in the area.

The parasitoid Diachasmimorpha longicaudata complex in Thailand contains at least 3 cryptic species informally designated as species D. longicaudata A, B and BB. DNA sequence data of nuclear ITS2 (second internal transcribed spacer) were used to characterize members of this D. longicaudata complex. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplicon of ITS2 region of D. longicaudata B (≈ 650 bp) clearly differentiated this species from A and BB (amplicon of  590 bp). Sequence alignment of individual parasitoids revealed that low intraspecies differences ranged from 0.457 to 3.991%, but interspecies differences ranged from 7.566 to 12.989%. Phylogenetic trees constructed using Neighbor-Joining (NJ) and Maximum Parsimony (MP) methods, taking the parasitoid Psyttalia concolor complex as an outgroup, revealed that D. longicaudata A, B and BB formed a monophyletic group, with species A and BB being more closely related than species B. ITS2 characterization of D. longicaudata complex has revealed an interesting divergence of the three cryptic sibling species in Thailand.  相似文献

To understand influence of two species of parasitoids on host population dynamics, adult population dynamics of pine needle gall midge (PNGM), Thecodiplosis japonensis and two species of parasitoids, Inostemma matsutama and Inostemma seoulis were observed using emergence traps from 1986 to 2005. Density of PNGM decreased after outbreaks in 1986 and 1987 and showed density-dependent regulation. Relationships between density of PNGM and its parasitoids were linear except the period of outbreak regardless of parasitoids species. Relationships between host density and parasitism of I. matsutama and I. seoulis were density-independent and inverse density-dependent, respectively. I. seoulis was the dominant parasitoid against PNGM. Interspecific competition between two parasitoids was not strong and temporal niche segregation between two parasitoids was a possible mechanism for coexistence of two parasitoids. The parasitoid complex responded to changes in host density more sensitively than single parasitoid species. These results suggested that two parasitoid can stabilize PNGM population density without strong negative effects on each species of parasitoids.  相似文献

The reproduction of the solitary endoparasitoid Fopius arisanus (Sonan) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) in Anastrepha ludens (Loew), Anastrepha obliqua (Macquart), and Anastrepha serpentina (Wiedemann) was compared with that using Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann), being the host in which it had been reared previously. Eggs of different ages (<4 h old, 1, 2, and 3 days old for Anastrepha spp., and ⩽4 h, 1 and 2 days old for C. capitata) of each host species were placed in pieces of papaya, exposed to parasitism for 24 h and then reared through to the adult stage. Host species had a marked effect on parasitoid reproduction with consistently higher parasitoid emergence from C. capitata, whereas emergence from A. obliqua was negligible and this host was not studied further. Host age did not significantly affect parasitoid emergence from C. capitata whereas parasitism of A. ludens and A. serpentina was significantly greater in eggs exposed at 3 days old than those exposed at younger ages. Adult parasitoid sex ratio was male biased in all cases. Despite significant differences in host developmental time, host species did not affect parasitoid developmental time. Parasitoid life expectancy at emergence was reduced by >60% for parasitoids that emerged from A. ludens compared to those that emerged from A. serpentina or C. capitata. The reproduction of parasitoid progeny was highest in parasitoids that emerged from and reproduced on C. capitata and lowest for parasitoids reproducing on A. ludens. Parasitoids that emerged from A. ludens were often deformed, but were larger than those that emerged from A. serpentina. Parasitoids that emerged from C. capitata were smaller than those from Anastrepha spp. We conclude that F. arisanus is capable of sustained reproduction in C. capitata and A. serpentina and merits further study as an agent for the control of these fruit flies.  相似文献

The host range of parasitoids varies greatly among species: Some only parasitize one to a few hosts (specialists), while others parasitize multiple species or a variety of host types (generalists). The direction of most host range shifts in parasitoid groups, that is from generalist to specialist or, alternatively, from specialist to generalist, is unknown. To explore the origin of host range shifts, we studied a clade within the genus Torymus (Hymenoptera, Chalcidoidea) that includes both generalist and specialist parasitoids of Cynipidae (Hymenoptera). We analysed the phylogenetic relationships of the species of Torymus on the basis of two gene fragments (cox1 and ITS2) of 246 specimens and performed an ancestral state reconstruction of the specialist/generalist trait. Our results revealed the following: (a) The ancestral state of this group of Torymus is specialist, with the generalist state evolving through a loss of specialization. (b) The species Torymus cyaneus and Torymus flavipes both have a strong genetic structure, suggesting the existence of different biological identities. (c) There has been a host plant shift in the lineage(s) leading to Torymus rubi and Torymus bedeguaris from galls on Quercus to those on Rosaceae. (d) The alien species Torymus sinensis and the native European species Torymus notatus are phylogenetically closely related. (e) Speciation within Torymus was likely associated with the diversification of their cynipid hosts, which itself was driven by the dramatic changes in climate and vegetation that occurred during the Miocene.  相似文献

Theileria sinensis was recently isolated and named as an independent Theileria species that infects cattle in China. To date, this parasite has been described based on its morphology, transmission and molecular studies, indicating that it should be classified as a distinct species. To test the validity of this taxon, the two internal transcribed spacers (ITS1 and ITS2) and the 5.8S rRNA gene were cloned and sequenced from three T. sinensis isolates. The complete ITS sequences were compared with those of other Theileria sp. available in GenBank. Phylogenetic analyses based on sequence data for the complete ITS sequences indicate that T. sinensis lies in a distinct clade that is separate from that of T. buffeli/orientalis and T. annulata. Sequence comparisons indicate that different T. sinensis isolates possess unique sizes of ITS1 and ITS2 as well as species-specific nucleotide sequences. This analysis provides new molecular data to support the classification of T. sinensis as a distinct species from other known Theileria spp. based on ITS sequences.  相似文献

During 2009–2010, a field survey of native Trichogramma species was carried out in six provinces of Iran, including Khorasan Razavi, Tehran, Mazandaran, Guilan, Golestan, and Qom. In this study, a molecular method for identifying Trichogramma and for determining the prevalence of Wolbachia in those species was used. Based on ITS2 (internal transcribed spacer 2) sequence, 14 populations were identified as the species T. embryophagum, T. evanescens, or T. brassicae. Wolbachia infection in these Trichogrammatids was detected using wsp gene sequencing. The highest infection rates in Trichogramma were found in Mazandaran and Golestan provinces. There was no evidence of infection in Trichogramma species in Guilan and Qom provinces. Of the three infected populations, two populations of T. evanescens were infected with only one Wolbachia strain from sib subgroup and one population was superinfected. Here, we report the first data on molecular characterization of Iranian Trichogrammatids and their Wolbachia-endosymbionts.  相似文献

Emergence of adult citrus gall wasp (CGW) Bruchophagus fellis (Girault) (Hymenoptera: Eurytomidae) in citrus orchards in far western New South Wales, Australia, was monitored with sticky traps for three seasons (2010 to 2012 inclusive). Emergence started from early October to early November, peaked from late October to mid-November, and was mostly finished by mid–late November. Emergence timing was mainly influenced by year and site, with the largest differences observed between years. Most emergence (90%) took place during an average period of only 19 days each season (range of 11–28 days across all trap types, sites and seasons). The role of temperature in emergence timing was investigated using a degree-day (DD) model. DD accumulated since 1 April using a lower threshold temperature of 15°C and an upper threshold temperature of 35°C or 40°C gave the best predictions of median emergence dates in the three years. The required DDs to achieve 5, 50, and 95% emergence were 336, 403 and 447 DD, respectively. The maximum difference between predicted and observed median dates for 2010–2012 was only four days. CGW adult emergence in future years can be predicted using these DD parameters and a combination of observed and average historical temperature data for the target site. Effective prediction of emergence peaks will allow the timing of pesticide applications to be optimised whilst providing protection for establishing parasitoids which emerge from the galls 2–3 weeks after citrus gall wasp.  相似文献
