To determine the effect of posture on maximal O2 uptake (VO2 max) and other cardiorespiratory adaptations to exercise training, 16 male subjects were trained using high-intensity interval and prolonged continuous cycling in either the supine or upright posture 40 min/day 4 days/wk for 8 wk and 7 male subjects served as non-training controls. VO2 max measured during upright cycling and supine cycling, respectively, increased significantly (P less than 0.05) by 16.1 +/- 3.4 and 22.9 +/- 3.4% in the supine training group (STG) and by 14.6 +/- 2.0 and 6.0 +/- 2.0% in the upright training group (UTG). The increase in VO2 max measured during supine cycling was significantly greater (P less than 0.05) in the STG than in the UTG. The increase in VO2 max in the UTG was significantly greater (P less than 0.05) when measured during upright exercise than during supine exercise. However, there was no significant difference in posture-specific VO2 max adaptations in the STG. A postural specificity was also evident in other maximal cardiorespiratory variables (ventilation, CO2 production, and respiratory exchange ratio). In the UTG, maximal heart rate decreased significantly (P less than 0.05) only during supine cycling; there was no significant difference in maximal heart rate after training in the STG. We conclude that posture affects maximal cardiorespiratory adaptations to cycle training. Additionally, supine training is more effective than upright training in increasing maximal cardiorespiratory responses measured during supine exercise, and the effects of supine training generalize to the upright posture to a greater extent than the effects of upright training generalize to the supine posture.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Cardiovascular response to cycle exercise during and after pregnancy   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Our purpose was to determine if pregnancy alters the cardiovascular response to exercise. Thirty-nine women [29 +/- 4 (SD) yr], performed submaximal and maximal exercise cycle ergometry during pregnancy (antepartum, AP, 26 +/- 3 wk of gestation) and postpartum (PP, 8 +/- 2 wk). Neither maximal O2 uptake (VO2max) nor maximal heart rate (HR) was different AP and PP (VO2 = 1.91 +/- 0.32 and 1.83 +/- 0.31 l/min; HR = 182 +/- 8 and 184 +/- 7 beats/min, P greater than 0.05 for both). Cardiac output (Q, acetylene rebreathing technique) averaged 2.2 to 2.8 l/min higher AP (P less than 0.01) at rest and at each exercise work load. Increases in both HR and stroke volume (SV) contributed to the elevated Q at the lower exercise work loads, whereas an increased SV was primarily responsible for the higher Q at higher levels. The slope of the Q vs. VO2 relationship was not different AP and PP (6.15 +/- 1.32 and 6.18 +/- 1.34 l/min Q/l/min VO2, P greater than 0.05). In contrast, the arteriovenous O2 difference (a-vO2 difference) was lower at each exercise work load AP, suggesting that the higher Q AP was distributed to nonexercising vascular beds. We conclude that Q is greater and a-vO2 difference is less at all levels of exercise in pregnant subjects than in the same women postpartum but that the coupling of the increase in Q to the increase in systemic O2 demand (VO2) is not different.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of continuous and interval training on changes in lactate and ventilatory thresholds during incremental exercise. Seventeen males were assigned to one of three training groups: group 1:55 min continuous exercise at approximately 50% maximum O2 consumption (VO2max); group 2: 35 min continuous exercise at approximately 70% VO2max; and group 3: 10 X 2-min intervals at approximately 105% VO2max interspersed with rest intervals of 2 min. All of the subjects were tested and trained on a cycle ergometer 3 day/wk for 8 wk. Lactate threshold (LT) and ventilatory threshold (VT) (in addition to maximal exercise measures) were determined using a standard incremental exercise test before and after 4 and 8 wk of training. VO2max increased significantly in all groups with no statistically significant differences between the groups. Increases (+/- SE) in LT (ml O2 X min-1) for group 1 (569 +/- 158), group 2 (584 +/- 125), and group 3 (533 +/- 88) were significant (P less than 0.05) and of the same magnitude. VT also increased significantly (P less than 0.05) in each group. However, the increase in VT (ml O2 X min-1) for group 3 (699 +/- 85) was significantly greater (P less than 0.05) than the increases in VT for group 1 (224 +/- 52) and group 2 (404 +/- 85). For group 1, the posttraining increase in LT was significantly greater than the increase in VT (P less than 0.05). We tested the hypothesis that the lactate threshold (Tlac) during incremental exercise could be increased significantly during the first 3 wk of endurance training without any concomitant change in the ventilatory threshold (Tvent). Tvent is defined as O2 uptake (VO2) at which ventilatory equivalent for O2 [expired ventilation per VO2 (VE/VO2)] increased without a simultaneous increase in the ventilatory equivalent for CO2 (VE/VCO2). Weekly measurements of ventilatory gas exchange and blood lactate responses during incremental and steady-rate exercise were performed on six subjects (4 male; 2 female) who exercised 6 days/wk, 30 min/session at 70-80% of pretraining VO2max for 3 wk. Pretraining Tlac and Tvent were not significantly different. After 3 wk of training, significant increases (P less than 0.05) occurred for mean (+/- SE) VO2max (392 +/- 103 ml/min) and Tlac (482 +/- 135 ml/min). Tvent did not change during the 3 wk of training, despite significant (P less than 0.05) reductions in VE responses to both incremental and steady-rate exercise. Thus ventilatory adaptations to exercise during the first 3 wk of exercise training were not accompanied by a detectable alteration in the ventilatory "threshold" during a 1-min incremental exercise protocol. The mean absolute difference between pairs of Tlac and Tvent posttraining was 499 ml/min. Despite the significant training-induced dissociation between Tlac and Tvent a high correlation between the two parameters was obtained posttraining (r = 0.86, P less than 0.05). To determine whether increases in muscle mitochondrial capacity are necessary for the characteristic lower exercise glycogen loss and lactate concentration observed during exercise in the trained state, we have employed a short-term training model involving 2 h of cycling per day at 67% maximal O2 uptake (VO2max) for 5-7 consecutive days. Before and after training, biopsies were extracted from the vastus lateralis of nine male subjects during a continuous exercise challenge consisting of 30 min of work at 67% VO2max followed by 30 min at 76% VO2max. Analysis of samples at 0, 15, 20, and 60 min indicated a pronounced reduction (P less than 0.05) in glycogen utilization after training. Reductions in glycogen utilization were accompanied by reductions (P less than 0.05) in muscle lactate concentration (mmol/kg dry wt) at 15 min [37.4 +/- 9.3 (SE) vs. 20.2 +/- 5.3], 30 min (30.5 +/- 6.9 vs. 17.6 +/- 3.8), and 60 min (26.5 +/- 5.8 vs. 17.8 +/- 3.5) of exercise. Maximal aerobic power, VO2max (l/min) was unaffected by the training (3.99 +/- 0.21 vs. 4.05 +/- 0.26). Measurements of maximal activities of enzymes representative of the citric acid cycle (succinic dehydrogenase and citrate synthase) were similar before and after the training. It is concluded that, in the voluntary exercising human, altered metabolic events are an early adaptive response to training and need not be accompanied by changes in muscle mitochondrial capacity.  相似文献

The effects of training resulting from one-leg exercise on a stationary bicycle ergometer have been studied. Seven subjects were habituated to one- and two-leg progressive exercise tests on 11 successive days and were then trained for 60 min-day-1 (30 min each leg) 3 times per wk for 5-6 wk at approximately 80% of their one-leg VO2 max. VE max increased (P less than 0.05) by approximately 14 1-min-1 and VO2 max by approximately 0.34 1-min-1 (+14%; P less than 0.05) in one-leg exercise. This latter increase was not, however, reflected in the two-leg VO2 max which only increased 145 ml-min-1 (4.7%). It was concluded that training is specific and in one-leg work the phenomenon is mainly peripheral in origin, but in two-leg work the limitation to maximal exercise is still provided by the capacity of the central cardiovascular system to transport oxygen to a given effective muscle mass.  相似文献

Despite many reports of long-lasting elevation of metabolism after exercise, little is known regarding the effects of exercise intensity and duration on this phenomenon. This study examined the effect of a constant duration (30 min) of cycle ergometer exercise at varied intensity levels [50 and 70% of maximal O2 consumption (VO2max)] on 3-h recovery of oxygen uptake (VO2). VO2 and respiratory exchange ratios were measured by open-circuit spirometry in five trained female cyclists (age 25 +/- 1.7 yr) and five untrained females (age 27 +/- 0.8 yr). Postexercise VO2 measured at intervals for 3 h after exercise was greater (P less than 0.01) after exercise at 50% VO2max in trained (0.40 +/- 0.01 l/min) and untrained subjects (0.39 +/- 0.01 l/min) than after 70% VO2max in (0.31 +/- 0.02 l/min) and untrained subjects (0.29 +/- 0.02 l/min). The lower respiratory exchange ratio values (P less than 0.01) after 50% VO2max in trained (0.78 +/- 0.01) and untrained subjects (0.80 +/- 0.01) compared with 70% VO2max in trained (0.81 +/- 0.01) and untrained subjects (0.83 +/- 0.01) suggest that an increase in fat metabolism may be implicated in the long-term elevation of metabolism after exercise. This was supported by the greater estimated fatty acid oxidation (P less than 0.05) after 50% VO2max in trained (147 +/- 4 mg/min) and untrained subjects (133 +/- 9 mg/min) compared with 70% VO2max in trained (101 +/- 6 mg/min) and untrained subjects (85 +/- 7 mg/min).  相似文献

Before the start and after 4, 8, and 12 wk of a treadmill training program male rats were randomly selected and tested for running performance, maximum O2 consumption (VO2 max), running economy (VO2 submax), and skeletal muscle oxidative capacity (QO2). Data were compared with values from untrained weight-matched control rats. Maximum running time to exhaustion increased significantly (P less than 0.01) by 4 wk and again at 12 wk (P less than 0.01). Submaximal running endurance increased by 120 (4 wk), 320 (8 wk), and 372% (12 wk) (P less than 0.01). VO2 max was increased only at 12 wk (86.0 +/- 2.7 vs. 75.5 +/- 1.9 ml O2.kg-1.min-1); VO2 submax was decreased at 4 and 8 wk but not at 12 wk. Soleus QO2 was unchanged after 4 wk of training and increased by 50% at 8 wk and by 77% at 12 wk. This study is the first to show a dissociation in both the time course and the magnitude of longitudinal changes in VO2 max, VO2 submax, QO2, and maximal and submaximal running performance. We conclude that factors other than those measured explain the improvement in running performance that resulted from endurance training in these rats.  相似文献

The hemodynamic response to maximal exercise was determined in rats that were subjected to high-intensity sprint training (HIST) and rats that served as sedentary controls. Training consisted of five 1-min bouts of treadmill running at work loads (15% grade, 97 m/min) in excess of the animals' maximal O2 uptake (VO2max) interspersed with 90 s of rest. Training was performed 6 days/wk for 6 wk. After the training regimen, all rats were acutely instrumented with catheters in the right carotid artery and right ventricle. O2 uptakes, hemodynamic parameters, arterial and mixed venous O2 concentrations, blood gases, and acid-base status were determined at rest and during submaximal and maximal exercise. Results demonstrated that VO2max of HIST rats was significantly greater than that found for sedentary control rats. This increase in VO2max was due to an increase in maximal cardiac output (Qmax), since maximal arteriovenous O2 difference was similar between trained and sedentary rats. The increase in Qmax was due to an increase in maximal stroke volume (SVmax), because maximal heart rate in trained rats was similar to that in sedentary control rats. Citrate synthase and phosphofructokinase activities measured in the white gastrocnemius, plantaris, and soleus muscles of trained and sedentary rats were similar. These results suggest that the increase in VO2max produced with HIST in rats is strongly linked to an increase in central cardiac function as indicated by an increase in Qmax and SVmax.  相似文献

Maximal dynamic exercise results in a postexercise hyperglycemia in healthy young subjects. We investigated the influence of maximal exercise on glucoregulation in non-insulin-dependent diabetic subjects (NIDDM). Seven NIDDM and seven healthy control males bicycled 7 min at 60% of their maximal O2 consumption (VO2max), 3 min at 100% VO2max, and 2 min at 110% VO2max. In both groups, glucose production (Ra) increased more with exercise than did glucose uptake (Rd) and, accordingly, plasma glucose increased. However, in NIDDM subjects the increase in Ra was hastened and Rd inhibited compared with controls, so the increase in glucose occurred earlier and was greater [147 +/- 21 to 169 +/- 19 (30 min postexercise) vs. 90 +/- 4 to 100 +/- 5 (SE) mg/dl (10 min postexercise), P less than 0.05]. Glucose levels remained elevated for greater than 60 min postexercise in both groups. Glucose clearance increased during exercise but decreased postexercise to or below (NIDDM, P less than 0.05) basal levels, despite increased insulin levels (P less than 0.05). Plasma epinephrine and glucagon responses to exercise were higher in NIDDM than in control subjects (P less than 0.05). By use of the insulin clamp technique at 40 microU.m-2.min-1 of insulin with plasma glucose maintained at basal levels, glucose disposal in NIDDM subjects, but not in controls, was enhanced 24 h after exercise. It is concluded that, because of exaggerated counter-regulatory hormonal responses, maximal dynamic exercise results in a 60-min period of postexercise hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia in NIDDM. Epinephrine responses to insulin-induced hypoglycemia have indicated that athletes have a higher adrenal medullary secretory capacity than untrained subjects. This view was tested by an exercise protocol aiming at identical stimulation of the adrenal medulla in the two groups. Eight athletes (T) and eight controls (C) ran 7 min at 60% maximal O2 consumption (VO2max), 3 min at 100% VO2max, and 2 min at 110% VO2max. Plasma epinephrine both at rest and at identical relative work loads [110% VO2max: 8.73 +/- 1.51 (T) vs. 3.60 +/- 1.09 mmol X l-1 (C)] was higher [P less than 0.05) in T than in C. Norepinephrine, as well as heart rate, increased identically in the two groups, indicating identical sympathetic nervous activity. Lactate and glycerol were higher in T than in C after running. Glucose production peaked immediately after exercise and was higher in T than in C. Glucose disappearance increased less than glucose production and was identical in T and C. Accordingly plasma glucose increased, more in T than in C (P less than 0.01). In T glucose levels approached the renal threshold greater than 20 min postexercise. Glucose clearance increased less in T than in C during exercise and decreased postexercise to or below (T, P less than 0.05) basal levels, despite increased insulin levels. Long-term endurance training increases responsiveness of the adrenal medulla to exercise, indicating increased secretory capacity. During maximal exercise this may contribute to higher glucose production, lower clearance, more inaccurate glucoregulation, and higher lypolysis in T compared with C.  相似文献

The goal of the study was to determine the effects of continuous (CT) vs. intermittent (IT) training yielding identical mechanical work and training duration on skeletal muscle and cardiorespiratory adaptations in sedentary subjects. Eleven subjects (6 men and 5 women, 45 +/- 3 years) were randomly assigned to either of the two 8-wk training programs in a cross-over design, separated by 12 wk of detraining. Maximal oxygen uptake (Vo2max) increased after both trainings (9% with CT vs. 15% with IT), whereas only IT was associated with faster Vo2 kinetics (tau: 68.0 +/- 1.6 vs. 54.9 +/- 0.7 s, P < 0.05) measured during a test to exhaustion (TTE) and with improvements in maximal cardiac output (Qmax, from 18.1 +/- 1.1 to 20.1 +/- 1.2 l/min; P < 0.01). Skeletal muscle mitochondrial oxidative capacities (Vmax) were only increased after IT (3.3 +/- 0.4 before and 4.5 +/- 0.6 micromol O2 x min(-1) x g dw(-1) after training; P < 0.05), whereas capillary density increased after both trainings, with a two-fold higher enhancement after CT (+21 +/- 1% for IT and +40 +/- 3% after CT, P < 0.05). The gain of Vmax was correlated with the gain of TTE and the gain of Vo2max with IT. The gain of Qmax was also correlated with the gain of VO2max. These results suggest that fluctuations of workload and oxygen uptake during training sessions, rather than exercise duration or global energy expenditure, are key factors in improving muscle oxidative capacities. In an integrative view, IT seems optimal in maximizing both peripheral muscle and central cardiorespiratory adaptations, permitting significant functional improvement. Ten foxhounds were studied during maximal and submaximal exercise on a motor-driven treadmill before and after 8-12 wk of training. Training consisted of working at 80% of maximal heart rate 1 h/day, 5 days/wk. Maximal O2 consumption (VO2max) increased 28% from 113.7 +/- 5.5 to 146.1 +/- 5.4 ml O2 X min-1 X kg-1, pre- to posttraining. This increase in VO2max was due primarily to a 27% increase in maximal cardiac output, since maximal arteriovenous O2 difference increased only 4% above pretraining values. Mean arterial pressure during maximal exercise did not change from pre- to posttraining, with the result that calculated systemic vascular resistance (SVR) decreased 20%. There were no training-induced changes in O2 consumption, cardiac output, arteriovenous O2 difference, mean arterial pressure, or SVR at any level of submaximal exercise. However, if post- and pretraining values are compared, heart rate was lower and stroke volume was greater at any level of submaximal exercise. Venous lactate concentrations during a given level of submaximal exercise were significantly lower during posttraining compared with pretraining, but venous lactate concentrations during maximal exercise did not change as a result of exercise training. These results indicate that a program of endurance training will produce a significant increase in VO2max in the foxhound. This increase in VO2max is similar to that reported previously for humans and rats but is derived primarily from central (stroke volume) changes rather than a combination of central and peripheral (O2 extraction) changes.  相似文献

To clarify the role of progressive heavy training on vascular volumes and hematologic status, seven untrained males [maximal O2 uptake (VO2max) = 45.1 +/- 1.1 (SE) ml.kg-1.min-1] cycled 2 h/day at an estimated 62% of VO2max. Training was conducted five to six times per week for approximately 8 wk. During this time, VO2max increased (P less than 0.05) by 17.2%. Plasma volume (PV) measured by 125I increased (P less than 0.05) from 3,068 +/- 104 ml at 0 wk to 3,490 +/- 126 ml at 4 wk and then plateaued during the remaining four wk (3,362 +/- 113 ml). Red cell (RBC) mass (RCM) measured by 51Cr-labeled RBC did not change during the initial 4 wk of training (2,247 +/- 66 vs. 2,309 +/- 128 ml). As well, no apparent change occurred in RCM during the final 4 wk of training when RCM was estimated using PV and hematocrit (Hct). Collectively, PV plus RCM, expressed as total blood volume (TBV), increased (P less than 0.05) by 10% at 4 wk and then stabilized for the final 4 wk. During the initial phase of training, reductions (P less than 0.05) were also noted in Hct (4.6%), hemoglobin (Hb, 4.0%), and RBC count (6.3%). In contrast, an increase in mean cell volume (MCV, 1.7%) and mean cell Hb (2.3%) was observed (P less than 0.05). In this study we determined whether the decline in exercise stroke volume (SV) observed when endurance-trained men stop training for a few weeks is associated with a reduced blood volume. Additionally, we determined the extent to which cardiovascular function could be restored in detrained individuals by expanding blood volume to a similar level as when trained. Maximal O2 uptake (VO2max) was determined, and cardiac output (CO2 rebreathing) was measured during upright cycling at 50-60% VO2max in eight endurance-trained men before and after 2-4 wk of inactivity. Detraining produced a 9% decline in blood volume (5,177 to 4,692 ml; P less than 0.01) during upright exercise, due primarily to a 12% lowering (P less than 0.01) of plasma volume (PV; Evans blue dye technique). SV was reduced by 12% (P less than 0.05) and VO2max declined 6% (P less than 0.01), whereas heart rate (HR) and total peripheral resistance (TPR) during submaximal exercise were increased 11% (P less than 0.01) and 8% (P less than 0.05), respectively. When blood volume was expanded to a similar absolute level in the trained and detrained state (approximately 5,500 +/- 200 ml) by infusing a 6% dextran solution in saline, the effects of detraining on cardiovascular response were reversed. SV and VO2max were increased (P less than 0.05) by PV expansion in the detrained state to within 2-4% of trained values. Additionally, HR and TPR during submaximal exercise were lowered to near trained values. These findings indicate that the decline in cardiovascular function following a few weeks of detraining is largely due to a reduction in blood volume, which appears to limit ventricular filling during upright exercise.  相似文献

We examined the effect of maternal weight gain during pregnancy on exercise performance. Ten women performed submaximal cycle (up to 60 W) and treadmill (4 km/h, up to 10% grade) exercise tests at 34 +/- 1.5 (SD) wk gestation and 7.6 +/- 1.7 wk postpartum. Postpartum subjects wearing weighted belts designed to equal their body weight during the antepartum tests performed two additional treadmill tests. Absolute O2 uptake (VO2) at the same work load was higher during pregnancy than postpartum during cycle (1.04 +/- 0.08 vs. 0.95 +/- 0.09 l/min, P = 0.014), treadmill (1.45 +/- 0.19 vs. 1.27 +/- 0.20 l/min, P = 0.0002), and weighted treadmill (1.45 +/ 0.19 vs. 1.36 +/- 0.20 l/min, P = 0.04) exercise. None of these differences remained, however, when VO2 was expressed per kilogram of body weight. Maximal VO2 (VO2max) estimated from the individual heart rate-VO2 curves was the same during and after pregnancy during cycling (1.96 +/- 0.37 to 1.98 +/- 0.39 l/min), whereas estimated VO2max increased postpartum during treadmill (2.04 +/- 0.38 to 2.21 +/- 0.36 l/min, P = 0.03) and weighted treadmill (2.04 +/- 0.38 to 2.19 +/- 0.38 l/min, P = 0.03) exercise. We conclude that increased body weight during pregnancy compared with the postpartum period accounts for 75% of the increased VO2 during submaximal weight-bearing exertion in pregnancy and contributes to reduced exercise capacity. The postpartum increase in estimated VO2max during weight-bearing exercise is the result of consistently higher antepartum heart rates during all submaximal work loads.  相似文献

The objective of these experiments was to determine whether living and training in moderate hypoxia (MHx) confers an advantage on maximal normoxic exercise capacity compared with living and training in normoxia. Rats were acclimatized to and trained in MHx [inspired PO2 (PI(O2)) = 110 Torr] for 10 wk (HTH). Rats living in normoxia trained under normoxic conditions (NTN) at the same absolute work rate: 30 m/min on a 10 degrees incline, 1 h/day, 5 days/wk. At the end of training, rats exercised maximally in normoxia. Training increased maximal O2 consumption (VO2 max) in NTN and HTH above normoxic (NS) and hypoxic (HS) sedentary controls. However, VO2 max and O2 transport variables were not significantly different between NTN and HTH: VO2 max 86.6 +/- 1.5 vs. 86.8 +/- 1.1 ml x min(-1) x kg(-1); maximal cardiac output 456 +/- 7 vs. 443 +/- 12 ml x min(-1) x kg(-1); tissue blood O2 delivery (cardiac output x arterial O2 content) 95 +/- 2 vs. 96 +/- 2 ml x min(-1) x kg(-1); and O2 extraction ratio (arteriovenous O2 content difference/arterial O2 content) 0.91 +/- 0.01 vs. 0.90 +/- 0.01. Mean pulmonary arterial pressure (Ppa, mmHg) was significantly higher in HS vs. NS (P < 0.05) at rest (24.5 +/- 0.8 vs. 18.1 +/- 0.8) and during maximal exercise (32.0 +/- 0.9 vs. 23.8 +/- 0.6). Training in MHx significantly attenuated the degree of pulmonary hypertension, with Ppa being significantly lower at rest (19.3 +/- 0.8) and during maximal exercise (29.2 +/- 0.5) in HTH vs. HS. These data indicate that, despite maintaining equal absolute training intensity levels, acclimatization to and training in MHx does not confer significant advantages over normoxic training. On the other hand, the pulmonary hypertension associated with acclimatization to hypoxia is reduced with hypoxic exercise training.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to quantify the exercise response of older subjects on a time-to-fatigue (TTF) submaximal performance test before and after a training program. Eight older men (67.4 +/- 4.8 yr) performed two maximal treadmill tests to determine maximum oxygen uptake (VO2max) and ventilation threshold (TVE) and a constant-load submaximal exercise treadmill test that required an oxygen uptake (VO2) between TVE and VO2max. The submaximal test, performed at the same absolute work rate before and after the training program, was performed to volitional fatigue to measure endurance time. The men trained under supervision at an individualized pace representing approximately 70% of VO2max (80% maximum heart rate) for 1 h, four times per week for 9 wk. Significant increases were demonstrated for VO2max (ml.kg-1.min-1; 10.6%); maximal ventilation (VE, l/min; 11.6%), and TVE (l/min; 9.8%). Weight decreased 2.1%. Performance time on the TTF test increased by 180% (7.3 +/- 3.0 to 20.4 +/- 13.5 min). The similar end points for VO2, VE, and heart rate during the TTF and maximal treadmill tests established that the TTF test was stopped because of physiological limitations. The increase in performance time among the subjects was significantly correlated with improvements in VO2max and TVE, with the submaximal work rate representing a VO2 above TVE by 88% of the difference between TVE and VO2max pretraining and 73% of this difference on posttraining values.  相似文献

Decline in VO2max with aging in master athletes and sedentary men   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Fifteen well-trained master endurance athletes [62.0 +/- 2.3 (SE) yr] and 14 sedentary control subjects (61.4 +/- 1.4 yr) were reevaluated after an average follow-up period of approximately 8 yr to obtain information regarding the effects of physical activity on the age-related decline in maximal O2 uptake capacity (VO2max). The master athletes had been training for 10.2 +/- 2.9 yr before initial testing and continued to train during the follow-up period. The sedentary subjects' VO2max declined by an average of 3.3 ml.kg-1.min-1 (33.9 +/- 1.7 vs. 30.6 +/- 1.6, P less than 0.001) over the course of the study, a decline of 12% per decade. In these subjects maximal heart rate declined 8 beats/min (171 vs. 163) and maximal O2 pulse decreased from 0.20 to 0.18 ml.kg-1.beat (P less than 0.05). The master athletes' VO2 max decreased by an average of 2.2 ml.kg-1.min-1 (54.0 +/- 1.7 vs. 51.8 +/- 1.8, P less than 0.05), a 5.5% decline per decade. The master athletes' maximal heart rate was unchanged (171 +/- 3 beats/min) and their maximal O2 pulse decreased from 0.32 to 0.30 ml.kg-1.beat (P less than 0.05). These findings provide evidence that the age-related decrease in VO2max of master athletes who continue to engage in regular vigorous endurance exercise training is approximately one-half the rate of decline seen in age-matched sedentary subjects. Furthermore our results suggest that endurance exercise training may reduce the rate of decline in maximal heart rate that typically occurs as an individual ages.  相似文献

Plasma free catecholamines rise during exercise, but sulfoconjugated catecholamines reportedly fall. This study examined the relationship between exercise intensity and circulating levels of sulfoconjugated norepinephrine, epinephrine, and dopamine. Seven exercise-trained men biked at approximately 30, 60, and 90% of their individual maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) for 8 min. The 90% VO2max period resulted in significantly increased plasma free norepinephrine (rest, 219 +/- 85; exercise, 2,738 +/- 1,149 pg/ml; P less than or equal to 0.01) and epinephrine (rest, 49 +/- 49; exercise, 555 +/- 516 pg/ml; P less than or equal to 0.05). These changes were accompanied by consistent increases in sulfoconjugated norepinephrine at both the 60% (rest, 852 +/- 292; exercise, 1,431 +/- 639; P less than or equal to 0.05) and 90% (rest, 859 +/- 311; exercise, 2,223 +/- 1,015; P less than or equal to 0.05) VO2max periods. Plasma sulfoconjugated epinephrine and dopamine displayed erratic changes at the three exercise intensities. These findings suggest that sulfoconjugated norepinephrine rises during high-intensity exercise.  相似文献
