Elongation of pollen tubes in pistils of Lilium longiflorum cv. Hinomoto after self-incompatible pollination was here found to be promoted by acetylcholine (ACh) and other choline derivatives, such as acetylthiocholine, l-alpha-phosphatidylcholine and chlorocholinechloride [CCC; (2-chloroethyl) trimethyl ammonium chloride]. Moreover, the elongation was promoted by neostigmine, a potent inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase (AChE; acetylcholine-decomposing enzyme) (EC 3.1.1.7.) and activities of this and choline acetyltransferase (ChAT; acetylcholine-forming enzyme) (EC 2.3.1.6.) in pistils were associated with self-incompatibility. The activity of ChAT was lower after self-incompatible as compared with cross-compatible pollination. Application of cAMP promoted ChAT activities in both cases, whereas activity of AChE in pistils after self-pollination was higher than that after cross-compatible pollination and was suppressed by cAMP in both cases. Furthermore, AChE activity was inhibited by treatment with neostigmine or heating. Our results indicate that the self-incompatibility with self-pollination is due to decrease of ACh and cAMP, causing reduction of ChAT and AC (adenylate cyclase) and concise elevation of AChE and PDE (cAMP phosphodiesterase), and therefore suppressed growth of pollen tubes.  相似文献

Elongation of pollen tubes in pistils after self-pollination of Lilium longiflorum cv. Hinomoto exhibiting strong gametophytic self-incompatibility was promoted by cAMP and also promoted by some metabolic modulators, namely, activators (forskolin and cholera toxin) of adenylate cyclase and inhibitors (3-isobutyl-1-methylxanthine and pertussis) of cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase. Moreover, the elongation was promoted by acetylcholine (ACh) and other choline derivatives, such as acetylthiocholine, L-α-phosphatidylcholine and chlorocholinechloride [CCC; (2-chloroethyl) trimethyl ammonium chloride]. A potent inhibitor (neostigmine) of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) as well as acetylcholine also promoted the elongation. cAMP enhanced choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) activity and suppressed AChE activity in the pistils, suggesting that the results are closely correlated with self-incompatibility in L. longiflorum. In short, it came to light that cAMP modulates ChAT (acetylcholine-forming enzyme) and AChE (acetylchoine-decomposing enzyme) activities to enhance the level of ACh in the pistils of L. logiflorum after self-incompatible pollination. These results indicate that the self-incompatibility on self-pollination is caused by low levels of ACh and/or cAMP.Key Words: pollen tubes, self-incompatibility, Lilium longiflorum, cAMP, acetylcholie, AChE, ChATCyclic AMP (cAMP) is an essential signaling molecule in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes.1 The existence of cAMP in higher plants was questioned by some reviewers24 in the mid 1970''s, so that many workers were discouraged from studying roles in plant biology. However, its presence was confirmed by mass spectrometry5 and infrared spectrometry6 in the early 1980''s and increasing evidence712 now suggests that cAMP makes important contributions in plant cells, as in animals.Lily (Lilium longiflorum) exhibits strong gametophytic self-incompatibility.13,14 Thus, elongation of pollen tubes in the pistil after self-incompatible pollination in L. longiflorum cv. Hinomoto stops halfway, in contrast to the case after cross-compatible pollination (cross with cv. Georgia).14 This self-incompatibility appears to be associated with the stress and self-incompatible pollination on stigmas of lilies results in activation and/or induction of enzymes such as NADH- and NADPH-dependent oxidases, xanthine oxidase, superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase and ascorbate peroxidase in the pistils.15 The activities of NADH- and NADPH-dependent oxidases (O2-forming enzymes), however, are known to be suppressed by cAMP16 and increase in the level of cAMP in guinea pig neutrophils results in their decreased expression.17 The level of O2 reactions with SOD is also decreased by cAMP.18 In the case of the lily, inhibition of NADH- and NADPH-dependent oxidases by cAMP was found to be noncompetitive with NAD(P)H.16 We hypothesized that decrease in active oxygen species such as O2 and suppression of stress enzyme activities in self-pollinated pistils of lily by cAMP might cause elongation of pollen tubes after self-pollination and this proved to be the case. Namely, elongation of pollen tubes after self-incompatible pollination in lily was promoted by exogenous cAMP at a concentration as low as 10 nM, a conceivable physiological level.13 Moreover, similar elongation could be achieved with adenylate cyclase activators [forskolin(FK) and cholera toxin] and cAMP phosphodiesterase inhibitors [3-isobutyl-1-methylxanthine (IBMX) and pertussis toxin].14,19 These phenomena led us to examine the involvement of endogenous cAMP in pistils after self-incompatible or cross-compatible pollination. As expected, the level of endogenous cAMP in pistils after self-pollination was approximately one half of that after cross-pollination. Furthermore, this was associated with a concomitant decrease in adenylate cyclase and increase in cAMP phosphodiesterase.19Many researchers in the field of plant biology have been unsuccessful in attempts to estimate the quantity of cAMP and to detect activities of adenylate cyclase and cAMP phosphodiesterase. On major difficulty is the presence of proteases and we have overcome this problem by using protease inhibitors, such as aprotinin and leupeptin.19In 1947, acetylcholine (ACh) of higher plants was first reported in a nettle (Urtica urens) found in the Himalaya mountain range.20 In 1983, its existence in plants was confirmed by mass spectrometry of preparations from Vigna seedlings.21 In our preliminary studies, CCC (chlorocholinechloride), a plant growth retardant (specifically an anti-gibberellin), enhanced the elongation of the pollen tubes in pistils after self-incompatible pollination in lilies. This led us to investigate whether other choline derivatives cause similar effects and positive findings were obtained with ACh, acetylthiocholine and L-α-phosphatidlylcholine.22 Moreover, the elongation was also promoted by neostigmine, an inhibitor of acetylcholine esterase (AChE) activity. In line with these results, choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) demonstrated low and AChE high activity in pistils after self-incompatible pollination.The positive influence of cAMP14,19 and ACh22 in pistils of L. longiflorum after self-incompatible pollination encouraged us to examine the involvement of these two molecules in regulation of pollen tube elongation of lily after self-incompatible and cross-compatible pollination. As a result, it was revealed that cAMP promotes ChAT and suppresses AChE activity in pistils after both self- and cross-pollination. In other words, the self-incompatibilty in pistils of L. longiflorum appears to be due to levels of ACh and/or cAMP below certain threshold values.Hitherto, these substances have not been recognized to play important roles in the metabolic systems of higher plants. However, given their conservation through evolution, it is natural that such central metabolic substances make essential contributions, regardless of the organism. We have succeeded in establishing physiological functions of cAMP and ACh in pistils of lily14,19,22 and this points to use of plant reproductive organs such as research materials. The exact responsibilities of the two molecules may depend on differences in tissues or organs of plants and further molecular biological studies in this area are clearly warranted. The self-incompatibility of tea plant (Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze) was studied with the methods of aniline blue fluorescence assay and paraffin sections. The characteristics of pollen tube elongation after hand pollination was analyzed in 4 tea cultivars, including ‘Keemenzhong’, ‘Longjing-changye’, ‘Fuding-dabaicha’ and ‘Yabukita’, under self-pollination and cross-pollination, respectively. Although there were some difference among cultivars, pollen tubes elongated through the style and reach the ovary successfully at 48 h after pollination for both cross- and self-pollen tubes in all the four cultivars of tea. Pollen tubes entered into the ovule micropyles, however, only for cross-pollination, but not for self-pollination. Pollen tubes of selfing plants, failed in fertilizing, seemed have some difficulties to enter the ovule. All of which indicated that the self-incompatibility of tea plant is a late-acting self-incompatibility system (LSI) or an ovarian sterility (OS), in which the self incompatibility was due to none self pollen tube penetrating into the ovule and no fertilization.  相似文献

Pollen released at 1100 h has the highest viability (92.2%)but is no longer viable 3 d (84 h) after anthesis.In vitropollen-tubegrowth is fast (140 µm h-1) and increases significantlywithin the first 8 h.In vivopollen tubes also grow quickly andreach the base of the style within 2 h after pollination andenter the micropyle 8 h after pollination. There is no significantdifference between self- and cross-pollination in either therate and the number of pollen tubes in the pistil and the numberof ovules penetrated by a pollen tube. Teak has late-actinggametophytic self-incompatibility; the majority of pollen tubesgrow through the style but some do not continue to grow fromthe style towards the embryo sacs. Pollen-tube abnormalitiesinclude swollen, reversed, forked and tapered tips and irregularand spiralling tubes. These are most prevalent in self-pollination(20.4%). The index of self-incompatibility of 0.17 and low fruitset following self-pollination (2.49%) indicates that teak ismostly self-incompatible. Drastic fruit abortion occurs withinthe first week following controlled pollination. Within 14 d,fruit size and fruit set from cross-pollination is generallymuch greater than from self-pollination. We investigated the effect of self-pollination on fruit- and seed-set in Asclepias exaltata, a self-incompatible milkweed. A total of 1,380 hand-pollinations were performed on 138 flowers in each of five treatments. In each treatment, two pollinia were placed in adjacent stigmatic chambers, which transmitted pollen tubes to the same ovary. Treatments 1 and 2 involved simultaneous placement of two self-pollinia (treatment 1) or two cross-pollinia (treatment 2) into adjacent stigmatic chambers. No fruits were produced after self-pollinations, but 23% of the cross-pollinated flowers matured fruits. The three remaining experimental pollination treatments were self-pollination preceding cross-pollination by 24 hr (treatment 3), simultaneous self- and cross-pollination (treatment 4), and cross-pollination preceding self-pollination by 24 hr (treatment 5). Compared with that in flowers receiving only cross-pollen, fruit-set in treatments 3–5 was reduced 81%, 49%, and 29%, respectively. Seed-set was also significantly reduced in flowers receiving self-pollen 24 hr in advance of the cross-pollen. Using genetic markers, we observed that only 0.6% of seeds resulted from self-pollination. Our data strongly suggest that self-pollination in milkweeds not only wastes pollen but also greatly reduces the number of ovules and ovaries that might otherwise mature fruits and seeds after cross-pollination.  相似文献

应用荧光显微法和石蜡切片解剖法对‘晚大新高’梨授粉受精过程进行了系统观察研究。结果表明:‘晚大新高’梨自花授粉不结实;异花最佳授粉品种为‘黄花’,其次为‘翠冠’和‘丰水’。与选用‘黄花’为异花授粉品种相比,自花和异花的授粉受精过程存在明显差异,自花花粉在授粉后2h开始萌发,8h花粉管生长至离柱头约1/3处停止生长,顶端膨大呈球形,表现出自交不亲和性;异花花粉在授粉后1h开始部分萌发,8h花粉管生长至花柱中部,24h到达花柱基部并进入子房,48h进入胚囊,72h完成双受精过程。  相似文献

In tobacco, as in other species, ethylene is produced in response to pollination. Although tobacco is a self-compatible species, it displays unilateral incongruity with other Nicotianaplants. Incongruous pollination also results in ethylene production, but this production differs depending on the pollen used and is related to the extent to which pollen tubes grow in the tobacco style. In the investigation reported here we followed the expression of the ACC synthase- and ACC oxidase-coding genes upon pollination of tobacco pistils and compared self-pollination with incongruous pollination. The pattern of expression of these genes also correlated with pollen-tube growth, although wounding alone cannot explain the results obtained. We also examined the expression of these genes upon pollination of immature tobacco pistils, in which different pollen tubes grew indistinctly inside the tobacco style and reached the ovary at the same rate. In this situation no significant differences in gene expression could be observed between the different pollinations. Ethephon, a substance that produces ethylene, could, in some cases, minimize the arrest of incongruous pollen tubes inside the style.  相似文献

Floral morphology, phenology and mode of pollination have been studied in Indotristicha ramosissima (Wt.) van Royen. Although the plants are submerged, self-pollination (autogamy) occurs above water. This is aided by considerable elongation of the pedicel (20 mm) prior to pollination. The filaments of the stamens also elongate rapidly (∼6.5 mm/h) before and after pollination. The flowers are typically trimerous. Each anther contains 1743 ± 187 pollen grains. These are spherical, multiporate, 3-celled and ∼97% fertile at the time of shedding. Germination of pollen on the stigma and the growth of pollen tubes have been traced in both naturally and manually (self- as well as cross-) pollinated pistils. The pollen:ovule ratio is ∼72:1 and the ovule: seed ratio is ∼2:1. Mature fruits are 8 or 9 ribbed and open by 2 or 3 longitudinal slits that release ∼32 seeds.  相似文献

Flowers of white clover (Trifolium repens L.) are hermaphrodite and self-incompatible; their cross-pollination depends entirely on insect visitors, mainly bees (Apoidea). Because self-pollination of white clover occurs before flower anthesis, we determined whether selfing affected the pollination efficiency of a honeybee visit. We compared pollen deposition in emasculated and intact flowers following (1) a single honeybee visit, (2) open-pollination for a day and (3) enclosure in a cloth bag to prevent insect visits. In emasculated flowers, open-pollination resulted in more pollen deposited than after one visit (+30%) which is consistent with flowers being visited more than once by pollinators during the course of a day. On intact flowers, saturation of the stigma was achieved after the first visit of a honeybee (near 280 grains) because of self-pollination. Additional visits did not increase pollen deposits, but they improved pollen efficiency in terms of numbers of pollen tubes reaching the ovules. In such a context of easily saturated stigmas, self-pollen does not inhibit cross-pollen activity, but represents a constraint for pollination which demands multiple bee visits to each flower to achieve maximum fertilization. A quantity of labeled stigmatic exudate, collected from detached Lilium longiflorum (cv. Ace) pistils labeled with d-glucose-1-14C, was fractionated on Sephadex G-100 and the polysaccharide component, G-100-I, was injected into the hollow styles of unlabeled detached pistils (cv. Ace) which had been removed on the day after anthesis from the plant. Injected pistils were immediately cross-pollinated with L. longiflorum (cv. No. 44) pollen. Eighty-four hours later, pistils were dissected to recover the pollen tubes, expended exudate, and labeled tissues of the stigma and style. Distribution of label revealed that at least 25% of the carbohydrate substance in excised pollen tubes was derived from G-100-I. The composition of expended exudate adhering to pollen tubes, of pollen tube cytoplasm, and of pollen tube walls suggests that utilization of exudate by growing pollen tubes involves uptake and incorporation into pollen tube cytoplasm of exudate polysaccharide fragments followed by extensive metabolism of at least a portion of the incorporated carbohydrate prior to its utilization for pollen tube wall biosynthesis. Results suggest the presence of at least two polysaccharide components in G-100-I, one which resists major degradation following injection into the style and another which undergoes measurable degradation both before and after entry into the pollen tube.  相似文献

The reproductive biology of Grevillea robusta growing underexotic conditions in Kenya and Australia is reported. The speciesshowed both protandry and a self-incompatibility mechanism.The stigma was wet and papillate with a distinct groove in themiddle. The anthers dehisced prior to anthesis, when the perianthopened. Stigmatic receptivity began 1 d after anthesis, withthe greatest pollen germination rates and longest pollen tubesobtained 2 d after anthesis. Nectar secretion commenced withpollen dehiscence and was abundant at anthesis. Most stigmaticgrooves opened widely 1–2 d after anthesis and stigmasshowed taller papillae and abundant secretion. Controlled pollinationsgave a greater fruit set from cross-pollination (5.9% in Apriland 17.5% in July) than open-pollination (0.1% in April and3.3% in July). No fruit set from self-pollination was obtainedin April, and very few fruit set for geitonogamous (two outof 1622; 0.1%) or for autogamous (one out of 2707 flowers; 0.04%)pollination treatments in July. Following self-pollination,growth of pollen tubes was poorer than in other treatments,and was generally arrested in the upper style. Cross-pollinatedflowers produced normal and straight pollen tubes, while self-pollentubes had growth abnormalities. Most of the open-pollinatedflowers were found without pollen or with only self-pollen ontheir stigmas indicating that the amount of cross-pollen reachingthe stigma under open-pollination may be a factor limiting seedproduction. Flowers shed soon after the fertilization phasewere those with ungerminated pollen or no pollen. Compatible and incompatible pollen tube growth in detached styles of three Lilium longiflorum cultivare varies with the physiological age of the style. Before anthesis both compatible and incompatible pollen tubes grow, in 48 hr, only a fraction of the distance compatible tubes grow after anthesis. Incompatible pollen tubes are restricted to about half the distance of compatible tubes in the four days postanthesis, but thereafter increase up to or three-fourths or more the length of compatible tubes at the time of floral senescence. About 10 days after anthesis, growth of both types of pollen tubes decreases. The detached style method of pollen-tube cultivation is validated in the cultivar ‘Ace’ by seed set obtained following self-pollination in the 6- to 9-day interval and failure of seed set after either self- or cross-pollination after 9 days following anthesis. Also, in agreement with detached style data, self-pollination fails to produce seeds when attempted in bud stages or the five days following anthesis. Cross-pollinations are successful in this period. This material and technique appear well suited for study of the nature of the self-incompatibility reaction.  相似文献

以同域分布于新疆南部的早春开花植物短穗柽柳(Tamarix laxa Willd)和紫杆柽柳(T.androssowii Litw)为材料,对它们的开花式样、花部特征、花报酬特点、传粉特性及交配方式进行比较研究。结果表明,2种植物居群和个体水平的花期及单花寿命间存在显著差异;紫杆柽柳的居群花期比短穗柽柳短,而短穗柽柳个体花期和单花寿命比紫杆柽柳长。2种柽柳的花瓣、雌雄蕊长度、花粉胚珠数及花粉/胚珠比值(P/O)间也存在显著差异。二者的花瓣、雌雄蕊均能分泌香味,访花频率与花蜜量均存在正相关。主要传粉者在短穗柽柳上的访花频率和沉积花粉效率高于紫杆柽柳,且存在显著差异。2种植物通过自花和异花授粉均可结实,属于混合交配系统;二者的自交不亲和指数及花粉限制程度间存在显著差异;紫杆柽柳的自交亲和性高于短穗柽柳,而短穗柽柳的花粉限制指数高于紫杆柽柳。因此,2种柽柳的开花式样、花部特征及花报酬的差异,是它们在传粉者受限的早春环境中为吸引更多的访花昆虫、提高雌性繁殖率所形成的繁殖对策。  相似文献

野菊与菊花杂交中花粉活力和柱头可授性及胚胎发育研究   总被引:4,自引:1,他引:3  
应用石蜡制片、活体压片、光学显微镜及扫描电子显微镜观察等方法,研究了四倍体河南云台山野菊(Dendranthema indicum)与栽培菊花'钟山金山'(D.grandiflorum 'Zhongshanjinshan')种间杂交中父本花粉活力、花粉在柱头萌发、花粉管生长及胚胎发育情况等.结果发现,父本云台山野菊的花粉活力在授粉时为12%左右.人工授粉后的不同时间,在柱头上都观察到正常萌发的花粉粒,且花粉管都能进入柱头,其中,在授粉后0.5 h时,平均每柱头有5.9粒花粉萌发;12 h时,为59.9粒;而24和48 h时,则分别降为47.1和35.7粒.此外,在授粉后8、10、12和15 d时,分别在49.1%、40.8%、39.7%和38.5%子房内观察到正常发育的胚胎,最终杂交结实率为44.8%,而母本自然开放结实率为52.3%.研究表明,授粉前其多数母本雌蕊发育良好、授粉后多数花粉能在柱头正常萌发和花粉管正常生长,在受精后大部分胚胎发育正常是野菊与栽培菊种间杂交较高结实率的重要保证,而授粉前父本较低的花粉活力对杂交结实率影响不大.  相似文献

Summary Growth of pollen tubes and seed set were compared after hand pollination in situ and in vitro in two self-incompatible species, Trifolium pratense and Trifolium repens. Adhesion of pollen grains to the stigma was greater in vitro for both species. After cross-pollination, in vitro culture gave a significant increase in the cumulative growth of pollen tubes in pistils of T. pratense compared to in situ conditions. After selfing in T. repens, pollen tube growth was significantly increased by in vitro culture of florets. Seed set after crossing in situ and in vitro was similar for both species. Seed set after selfing in vitro was not increased in T. pratense. Several genotypes of T. repens were classified as very good, good and poor selfers based on their capacity for seed set following selfing in situ. In vitro pollination increased self seed formation by 1.7-, 18.0- and 31.0-fold for each class, respectively. Ovules located nearest to the style were fertilized more often after selfing than after crossing.  相似文献

 Cork oak (Quercus suber L.) is a monoecious wind-pollinated species with a protandrous system to ensure cross-pollination. To the best of our knowledge, this report provides the first insight into the sexual reproduction cycle in this species. The cork oak flowering season extends from April until the end of May. Our results show that, at anthesis, the pistillate flower is not completely formed and ovules are just starting to develop. Pollen reaching the dry stigmatic surface adheres to the receptive cells, germinates and penetrates the epidermis in aproximately 24 h, and grows through the intercellular spaces of a solid transmitting tissue. In cross-pollination, a sequential arrest of pollen tubes was observed along the style, providing preliminary evidence for a pollen tube competition mechanism. As a consequence, few pollen tubes reach the basal portion of the style. Furthermore, pollen tube growth is a discontinuous process since tubes are arrested in the basal portion of the style about 10–12 days after pollination. While tubes are latent, the ovarian loculus starts to develop from an emerging mass of sporogeneous cells which later will differentiate into the placenta and ovules. One and a half months after pollination ovules complete their differentiation, tubes resume growth and fertilisation occurs. Plant reproduction in crucifers is dependent on interactions that occur at the stigma surface between the male gametophyte (pollen and pollen tube) and papillar cells. To dissect these complex interactions, papillar cells were genetically ablated by targeting the expression of a toxin to appropriate cells of the flower with a flower-specific and developmentally regulated promoter. In transgenic Brassica plants that expressed the toxic gene fusion, flower morphology was normal except for aberrant papillar cell development and partial pollen sterility. Microscopic, biochemical, and functional analyses, mainly focused on papillar cell responses, revealed that papillar cells lost their ability to elongate, to synthesize cell-specific proteins, and to support pollen germination after self- or cross-pollination. This loss of stigma receptivity to pollination was mimicked by treating pistils with protein phosphatase inhibitors. Differences in the effects of genetic and chemical ablation on the pollination responses of Brassica and Arabidopsis flowers are discussed and are ascribed in part to a requirement for phosphorylation/dephosphorylation events in Brassica but not in Arabidopsis.  相似文献

Using fluorescence microscopy, deposition of pollen on stigmas and pollen tube growth in the gynoecium of Sagittaria potamogetifolia Merr., a monoecious species with an apocarpous gynoecium, were observed. The maximum rate of pollination averaged 83.9 +/- 4.7 %, and the number of pollen grains per stigma ranged from zero to 30. Pollen tubes grew through one stigma to the base of the ovary at almost the same speed, but generally only one of the pollen tubes then turned towards the ovule and finally entered the nucellus through the micropyle. The other pollen tubes grew through the ovary base and the receptacle tissue into ovules of adjacent carpels whose stigmas were not pollinated or which had been pollinated later. This phenomenon is termed pollen tube 'reallocation' by the authors. To verify the direct effect of the phenomenon on fruit set, artificial pollination experiments were conducted in which two or more pollen grains were placed onto only one stigma in each gynoecium; frequently more than one fruitlet was obtained from each flower treated. The reallocation of pollen tubes among pistils in the gynoecium could effect fertilization of ovules of unpollinated pistils and lead to an increase in sexual reproduction efficiency. Pollen tube growth dynamics along the style at different times after self- and cross-pollination of four heterozygous self-compatible (SfSx) almond cultivars were studied by means of fluorescence microscopy. Results showed a reduction of pollen tube number along the style following both self-pollination (half-compatible reaction) and cross-pollination (fully-compatible). An important decrease in the percentage of pollen tubes present took place in the upper section of the style in both crosses. As expected in a gametophytic incompatibility system, a higher number of pollen tubes were stopped along the style in the case of the half-compatible crosses; however, the percentage of pollen tubes reaching the base of the style was similar in both cases. These results reveal the existence of other mechanisms controlling pollen tube growth along the style.  相似文献

The pattern of electric signals accompanying compatible and incompatible pollination were studied in pistils of petunia (Petunia hybrida L.) and rape (Brassica napus L). Electric potential was recorded for 4–7 hours with non-polarizable Ag/AgCl electrodes implanted into the ovary and beneath the sigma. At the end of measurements, pistils were fixed and the growth of pollen tubes was analyzed under a fluorescent microscope. Action potentials appeared in both species. In rape the potential dropped by 10 mV for few minutes after pollination regardless of the compatibility of the cross. In this species, during compatible pollination action potentials with amplitudes of 15–20 mV were recorded up to one hour after pollination. They were followed by a long lasting decrease of the potential by 10 to 50 mV. Contrary, after the self-incompatible pollination, action potentials were rare and of lower amplitudes and the potential gradually raised in comparison to the initial level. During the first hour after the compatible pollination of Petunia hybrida series of action potentials with amplitudes reaching 10–20 mV were recorded. At the time corresponding to the pollen tubes entrance to the transmitting tissue of the style, action potentials reaching up to 40 mV were followed by a steady decrease of the potential. The electric signals traveled along the style with velocity of 25 mm/s. Incompatible pollination in petunia resulted only in minor oscillation and gradual increase of the potential up to 100 mV in comparison to the initial level. The present investigation demonstrated that each phase of pollen-stigma recognition events, germination and growth of pollen tubes within the style have its characteristic pattern of electric changes which was species specific and depended on compatibility of the cross.  相似文献
