兴起于上世纪80年代的现代人起源研究与争论在近10年来呈现出一些新的趋势或特点, 主要体现在对现代人起源与演化细节过程的关注。这些新的关注点涉及早期现代人的出现与扩散、中更新世晚期-晚更新世早期人类化石特征变异及演化, 以及早期现代人出现与演化过程中的健康与生存适应活动三个方面。围绕这些问题, 中国古人类学界开展了相关研究并获得了一些新的发现和认识。本文对近10年来早期现代人在中国出现与演化领域的研究进行了回顾, 并对相关问题进行了讨论。  相似文献

山顶洞人化石是迄今在东亚地区发现的数量最为丰富、保存状态最为完好的更新世晚期人类化石。多年来,山顶洞人作为东亚地区更新世晚期人类的代表,在研究东亚地区现代蒙古人种及美洲印第安人起源方面发挥着重要作用。随着对现代人起源与演化研究的深入,学术界对更新世晚期人类演化及现代人群形成过程的许多细节及演化机制予以了越来越多的注意,提出了现代人群出现时间及现代人群分化时间的概念。一些研究对山顶洞人的演化程度及其在东亚地区现代人群形成上的作用也提出了不同看法。为了深入探讨这些问题,本文对12项颅骨非测量特征在山顶洞人与现代中国人的表现情况进行了对比研究。发现有8项特征在山顶洞人与现代中国人之间具有不同的表现,作者认为山顶洞人在颅骨特征表现上较现代中国人具有更多的原始性。在此基础上,作者就更新世晚期人群内部变异、现代人群特征标准等问题进行了讨论。  相似文献

Spatial tasks in rodents are commonly used to study general mechanisms of cognition. We review two groups of novel spatial tasks for rodents and discuss how they can extend our understanding of mechanisms of spatial cognition. The first group represents spatial tasks in which the subject does not locomote. Locomotion influences neural activity in brain structures important for spatial cognition. The tasks belonging to the first group make it possible to study cognitive processes without the interfering impact of locomotion. The second group represents tasks in which the subject approaches or avoids a moving object. Despite this topic is intensively studied in various animal species, little attention has been paid to it in rodents. Both groups of the tasks are powerful tools for addressing novel questions about rodent cognition.  相似文献

For more than 20 years scientists of the ‘Food-chain studies’ Group of the former Limnological Institute have been studying interactions within the pelagic food web. Purpose of research was to explain the structure and dynamics of the zooplankton and fish communities in lakes and reservoirs in relation to biotic and abiotic environmental factors. A so-called multi-species approach was used, in which all common and abundant species within a specific ecosystem were studied on the individual and population level with the same degree of detail. The recent results and the scientific approach used are evaluated and the main gaps in knowledge about food-web dynamics in shallow eutrophic lakes are identified and discussed. It is concluded that instead of the purely functional approach used so far, future studies should also include evolutionary aspects which determine the success of an organism in a given environment and that more attention should be paid to central questions in ‘community ecology’. The evolution of therian mammals is to a large degree marked by changes in their motion systems. One of the decisive transitions has been from the sprawled, bi-segmented to the parasagittal, tri-segmented limb. Here, we review aspects of the tri-segmented limb in locomotion which have been elucidated in our research groups in the last 10 years. First, we report the kinematics of the tri-segmented therian limb from mouse to elephant in order to explore general principles of the therian limb configuration and locomotion. Torques will be reported from a previous paper (Witte et al., 2002. J Exp Biol 205:1339-1353) for a better understanding of the anti-gravity work of all limb joints. The stability of a limb in z-configuration will be explained and its advantage with respect to other potential solutions from modeling will be discussed. Finally, we describe how the emerging concept of self-stability can be explained for a tri-segmented leg template and how it affects the design of the musculoskeletal system and the operation of legs during locomotion. While locomotion has been considered as mainly a control problem in various disciplines, we stress the necessity to reduce control as much as possible. Central control can be cheap if the limbs are "intelligent" by means of their design. Gravity-induced movements and self-stability seem to be energy-saving mechanisms.  相似文献

生态系统破坏与退化的加剧使生态恢复成为全球性的挑战课题,近年来生态恢复的研究已逐渐由地上向地下部分转移,地下部分对生态系统退化所起的作用、机理和过程已倍受关注。本文通过探讨恢复生态学的关键概念,从土壤、地下水循环、生物系统3个方面探讨了地下生态系统对生态恢复的作用机理和反馈机制。针对目前的研究现状,指出地下生态系统研究中存在的问题,并提出今后需要深入研究的几个方向:1)生态系统退化程度的诊断及其标准;2)基于诊断标准,针对不同退化生态系统类型选定恢复的目标植物群落,如何改善土壤性质,确定土壤性质的改善程度;确定地下水位及土壤含水量的阈值;如何有效选择、引入和接种土壤生物;3)生态系统地上和地下部分整合及恢复过程中监测指标的确定。  相似文献

Human evolutionary research in Eastern Germany, limited in this paper to the origins and evolution of Pleistocene man, has mainly focused during the last decade on theoretical aspects of the evolution of man and human society from multiple and interdisciplinary perspectives. An interdisciplinary working group ‘Probleme der Menschwerdung’ was founded in 1977. About 30 specialists from various fields have discussed problems of the origins and evolution of man and human society under interdisciplinary aspects. The activities, difficulties and results of this cooperation will be outlined in this paper. There will also be given a progress report on the disciplinary initiated research on local sites as well as on general aspects and problems. Paper dedicated to Professor Dr. rer. nat. Dr.sc.med. The human remains recovered from “Grotte supérieure de Zhoukoudian” are the best-preserved Late Pleistocene human fossils in East Asia. For decades, as the representative of the Late Pleistocene human in East Asia, the Upper Cave skulls have been playing important role in the research of origins of modern Mongoloids and American Indians. With the advance of the origin and evolution of modern humans, more attention has been paid to the details and the mechanisms for the late Pleistocene human evolution and the formation of modern human populations. Both the origin and diversification of modern humans have been stressed. Some studies further trigger the debaters on the Upper Cave Man concerning its evolutionary level and its role in the formation of modern human populations in East Asia. To further explore these problems, we examined and compared 12 non-metric features on the 3 Late Pleistocene Upper Cave skulls and 162 Holocene individuals earthed from two archaeological sites of North China (Longxian and Yanqing). Our results indicate that 8 on the 12 features have different expression patterns between Upper Cave Man and recent Chinese leading the authors to believe that more primitive expressions appeared on the Upper Cave Man than on recent Chinese populations. Based on these findings, some problems on the intragroup variation in Late Pleistocene and Holocene populations are discussed.  相似文献

Human embryonic stem cells: Problems and perspectives   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Generation of human embryonic stem cell lines is one of the most important achievements in biological science in the 20th century. It has excited a wide scientific and social response, as embryonic stem cells (ESC) may, in the future, be regarded as an unlimited source of transplantation materials for replacement cell therapy. ESC lines are derived, cultured, inner cell mass from human blastocysts is used in the in vitro fertilization procedure. To date, human embryonic cell lines have been obtained in more than 20 countries. In our country, embryonic stem cell research is carried out in the Institute of Cytology, Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Gene Biology, Russian Academy of Sciences. Studies with human ESC go in several directions. Much attention is paid to finding the most optimal conditions for ESC cultivation, mainly to the development of cultivation techniques excluding animal feeder cells and other components of animal origin. Another direction is a large-scale analysis of gene expression specific to the embryonic state of cells and the corresponding signaling pathways. Great efforts are being focused on the directed differentiation of ESC into various tissue-specific cells. It has been shown that in vitro ESC are able to differentiate into virtually any somatic cells. Works are in progress to develop methods for “therapeutic cloning,” i.e. the transfer of somatic nuclei into enucleated oocytes or embryonic stem cell cytoblasts and their reactivation. Of great importance is the standardization of the human ESC lines. However, standard requirements for cells utilized for research or therapeutic purposes may be different. It has been found that many permanent human ESC lines underwent genetic and epigenetic variations. Therefore, the cell line genetic stability should be periodically verified. The main purpose of the review is to provide a detailed consideration of research on the genetic stability of human and mouse ESC lines. Human ESC lines established both in our country and others could not thus far be used in clinical practice. It is highly probable that undifferentiated ESCs cannot be applied for therapeutic purposes, as there is a risk of their malignant transformation. Therefore, main efforts should be focused on the production ESC progenitor and highly differentiated cells suitable for transplantation.  相似文献

The ‘socially valuable knowledge’ (SVK) principle has been widely acknowledged as one of the most important guiding principles for biomedical research involving human subjects. The principle states that the potential of producing socially valuable knowledge is a necessary requirement, although not sufficient, for the ethical conduct of research projects. This is due to the assumption that the social value of knowledge avoids exploitation of research subjects and justifies the use of health resources. However, more recently, several authors have started interrogating the validity of SVK in research and offered various lines of argument against the SVK principle as a necessary constraint to research. In this article, I will reconstruct the main arguments of this discussion between defenders and debunkers of the SVK principle and offer a third way to consider the social value of knowledge in research studies. I will argue that the social value of knowledge can be supported by an independent justification. This justification of the SVK principle addresses the rationality and common interest of researchers. Thus, I will introduce the SVK principle as a safeguarding principle for public trust based on a conceptual framework by Alex John London. My approach justifies keeping the principle as a precautionary and rational requirement for human health research that all rational stakeholders can agree upon.  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. Although the methods discussed in this report havebeen applied to biomechanical studies on horses, these techniqueshave broad applications to locomotor research on all species.Cinematography has been and will continue to be the most widelyapplied of these methods. Recent advances in video imaging willcomplement, but not completely replace, this technique. Electrogoniometryhas been primarily restricted to use on human beings and horses.This method has far broader kinematic applications and its useshould be seriously investigated by researchers studying otherspecies. Force plates have been used widely, and with the advancesin research technology, even broader applications of this techniquewill be available. The technology used in the development ofthe instrumented shoes can be used to develop instrumentationfor investigations in other species. Substantial modificationsincluding the miniaturization of electrical components willbe necessary. The references cited in this discussion, although in no wayall-inclusive, indicate that a vast amount of research usinga variety of methods has been conducted on the locomotion ofanimals. We have just begun to define and understand the complexinteractions of the musculoskeletal system with other body systems.Students of locomotion must use their imagination and ingenuityin refining and adapting these techniques, and in developingnew methods to solve the many unanswered questions.  相似文献

In recent years, the concern for human research subject protection has increased markedly in the United States. The nature of research subject participation in controlled-exposure environmental health research is such that the individual subject bears the risk of participation, while the benefits of such research accrue to society. Therefore, particular attention must be paid when designing studies to protect the health and safety of human research subject. The concept of morphophysiological regress as one of the main ways to biological progress, as well as its major factors (the sedentary and parasitic modes of life), are discussed. Some notions of regressive evolution are critically reviewed. Special attention is paid to evolutionary transformations of the nervous system, one of the main integrating factors in the body. All theories of evolutionary progress based on sedentary organisms are demonstrated to be untenable. The entire progressive evolution of Metazoa has been related to mobile life. Since regressive trends are common in the evolution, the phylogenetic tree of Metazoa requires serious revision.  相似文献

The evolution and diversification of vertebrate behaviors associated with locomotion depend highly on the functional transformation of paired appendages. Although the evolution of fins into limbs has long been a focus of interest to scientists, the evolution of neural control during this transition has not received much attention. Recent studies have provided significant progress in the understanding of the genetic and developmental bases of the evolution of fin/limb motor circuitry in vertebrates. Here we compare the organization of the motor neurons in the spinal cord of various vertebrates. We also discuss recent advances in our understanding of these events and how they can provide a mechanistic explanation for the evolution of fin/limb motor circuitry in vertebrates.  相似文献

Summary

Studies on the control of reproduction in crustaceans have, for the most part, dealt with the regulation of female reproduction. However, not a great deal of attention has been paid to cellular interactions of the neurohormones involved in this regulation. In this contribution recent data on inhibitory and stimulatory neuropeptides are discussed and reflections are made on their importance for further application-directed research. Attention is paid to: histophysiological events in the oocytes during vitellogenesis; biochemical aspects of the regulating neuropeptides and cytological localization of these neuropeptides in the neuroendocrine system. Opportunities for further research are identified and appraised in light of the knowledge reviewed.  相似文献

Through thousands of years of evolution and cultivation, tremendously rich genetic diversity has been accumulated in rice (Oryza sativa L.), developing a large germplasm pool from which people can select varieties with morphologies of Interest and other important agronomic traits. With the development of modern genetics, scientists have paid more attention to the genetic value of these elite varieties and germplasms, and such rich rice resources provide a good foundation for genetic research in China. Approximately 100 000 accessions of radiation-, chemical- or insertion-induced mutagenesis have been generated since the 1980s, and great progress has been made on rice molecular genetics. So far at least 16 variant/mutant genes Including MOC1, BC1, SKC1, and Rfgenes have been isolated and characterized in China. These achievements greatly promote the research on functional genomics, understanding the mechanism of plant development and molecular design breeding of rice in China. Here we review the progress of three aspects of rice genetics in China: moving forward at the molecular level, genetic research on elite varieties and germplasms, and new gene screening and genetic analysis using mutants. The prospects of rice genetics are also discussed.  相似文献

Nondrug approaches for the regulation and induction of human sleep available at present have been analyzed; an attempt at classifying them has been made. The main attention is paid to the methods using modern computer technologies for the recording and analysis of various characteristics of the functioning of the human body, primarily, its electroencephalogram (EEG). Normal human sleep EEG correlates and their changes during different stages of the wakefulness-sleep cycle are reviewed and modern opportunities to use these characteristics for artificial regulation and induction of human sleep are analyzed.  相似文献

The role of colours and colour patterns in behavioural ecology has been extensively studied in a variety of contexts and taxa, while almost overlooked in many others. For decades anurans have been the focus of research on acoustic signalling due to the prominence of vocalisations in their communication. Much less attention has been paid to the enormous diversity of colours, colour patterns, and other types of putative visual signals exhibited by frogs. With the exception of some anecdotal observations and studies, the link between colour patterns and the behavioural and evolutionary ecology of anurans had not been addressed until approximately two decades ago. Since then, there has been ever‐increasing interest in studying how colouration is tied to different aspects of frog behaviour, ecology and evolution. Here I review the literature on three different contexts in which frog colouration has been recently studied: predator–prey interactions, intraspecific communication, and habitat use; and I highlight those aspects that make frogs an excellent, yet understudied, group to examine the role of colour in the evolution of anti‐predation strategies and animal communication systems. Further, I argue that in addition to natural‐history observations, more experiments are needed in order to elucidate the functions of anuran colouration and the selective pressures involved in its diversity. To conclude, I encourage researchers to strengthen current experimental approaches, and suggest future directions that may broaden our current understanding of the adaptive value of anuran colour pattern diversity.  相似文献

Language is a uniquely human trait, and questions of how and why it evolved have been intriguing scientists for years. Nonhuman primates (primates) are our closest living relatives, and their behavior can be used to estimate the capacities of our extinct ancestors. As humans and many primate species rely on vocalizations as their primary mode of communication, the vocal behavior of primates has been an obvious target for studies investigating the evolutionary roots of human speech and language. By studying the similarities and differences between human and primate vocalizations, comparative research has the potential to clarify the evolutionary processes that shaped human speech and language. This review examines some of the seminal and recent studies that contribute to our knowledge regarding the link between primate calls and human language and speech. We focus on three main aspects of primate vocal behavior: functional reference, call combinations, and vocal learning. Studies in these areas indicate that despite important differences, primate vocal communication exhibits some key features characterizing human language. They also indicate, however, that some critical aspects of speech, such as vocal plasticity, are not shared with our primate cousins. We conclude that comparative research on primate vocal behavior is a very promising tool for deepening our understanding of the evolution of human speech and language, but much is still to be done as many aspects of monkey and ape vocalizations remain largely unexplored.  相似文献

The study of human locomotion and its applications are examined from a historical viewpoint. Several critical steps in the advancement of the discipline are considered in the context of addressing a particular need to answer fundamental questions regarding the process of human locomotion. In addition, changes in the methods of observation are discussed in terms of the advancement of the field. As an example, the application of a newly developed point cluster technique to reduce the artifact due to skin movement is described. The method was applied to a study of patients with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) deficient knees. The results demonstrate that patients with ACL-deficient knees have significantly greater than normal anterior-posterior displacement of the femur relative to the tibia during walking. Many of the advancements in the tools for observation and interpretation have been driven by new demands on our fundamental knowledge. Future advancements in the study of human locomotion will likely be motivated by new treatment modalities that require an in depth understanding of the subtle complexities of human locomotion. Future directions are discussed in the context of new methods for reducing errors associated with skin movement combined with information obtained from other imaging methods, such as magnetic resonance imaging.  相似文献
