A new species of the bitterling genus Acheilognathus, Acheilognathus changtingensis sp. nov., was recently discovered from Changting County in Hanjiang River, Fujian Province, Southeastern China. It can be diagnosed by the following combination of characters: dorsal fin with three simple and 15 (occasionally 14) branched fin rays, anal fin with three simple and 12 (occasionally 11) branched fin rays; dorsal fin pale and anal fin slightly pale; white spots on anal-fin rays forming a transverse band, and anal fin margined with white band in males. Its unique characters are the many dispersed black spots on the dorsal, anal, pelvic, caudal fins, and on the head. Using the mitochondrial cytochrome Jb gene as a molecular marker, we reconstructed phylogenetic trees of A. changtingensis sp. nov. and other species in Acheilognathus to confirm its taxonomic status and study its speciation. Analyses of both morphological and molecular data consistently indicated the taxonomic status of the present new species. The results also show that A. changtingensis sp. nov. and Acheilognathus macropterus are sister species that diverged about 14.50 MYA by geographical isolation.

A new cave-dwelling species Triplophysa tianlinensis sp. nov. is described based on specimens collected from a karst cave in Hongxing Village, Langping Town, Tianlin County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. Additionally, although the new species and Triplophysa langpingensis are from the cave of Langping Town, the new species could be distinguished from T. langpingensis by the following character: lateral line completed, 3+10 infraorbital and 15 preoperculo-mandibular pores.

Three new fish species are described: Bryconamericus dahli from the basins of the Patia and Mira rivers; B. ichoensis from Chaparraido Creek, the upper Atrato River basin, and B. galvisi from upper Putumayo River. Bryconamericus dahli can be distinguished from other Bryconamericus species by body depth and the larger head. B. dahli is similar to B. caucanus, but can be distinguished by the number of anal fin rays, head width and maxilla. Bryconamericus ichoensis can be distinguished by its small size, absence of a spot on the caudal peduncle, and generally 27 to 30 anal fin rays. B. ichoensis may be closely related to B. multiradiatus, but can be distinguished by the number of unbranched rays in the dorsal, pectoral and pelvic fins, the number of predorsal scales, body depth, etc. Bryconamericus galvisi, can be distinguished from other species of Bryconamericus by its single peduncle spot, high branched anal fin ray, the lateral line scales count, and elongated body. This species is similar to B. caucanus and can be distinguished by the number of teeth on the maxilla and by the number of vertebrae. The genus Bryconamericus is a natural and valid group, which is related to Hemibrycon. Moreover the Knodus and Eretmobrycon are synonym of Bryconamericus.

Pethia sanjaymoluri, a new cyprinid, is described from the Pavana and Nira tributaries of Bhima River, Krishna drainage, Maharashtra, India. It can be distinguished from congeners by a combination of characteristics that includes an incomplete lateral line, absence of barbels, upper lip thick and fleshy, 23–25 lateral series scales, 7–12 lateral‐line pored scales, 10 predorsal scales, 11–14 prepelvic scales, 17–20 pre‐anal scales, 4½ scales between dorsal‐fin origin and lateral line, four scales between lateral line and pelvic‐fin origin, 8–15 pairs of serrae on distal half of dorsal‐fin spine, 12–14 branched pectoral‐fin rays, 4 + 26 total vertebrae, 4 + 5 predorsal vertebrae, 4 + 13 abdominal vertebrae, 13 caudal vertebrae and a unique colour pattern comprising a humeral spot positioned below the lateral line and encompassing the third and fourth lateral‐line scales and one scale below, one caudal spot on 17th–21st lateral‐line scales with a yellow hue on its anterior side and apical half of dorsal fin studded with melanophores making the fin tip appear black. Genetic analysis based on the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene sequence suggests that the species is distinct from other known species of Pethia for which data are available.
