Ordovician chitinozoans are as yet inadequately documented from the western Yangtze Platform, South China. Here we present a systematic study on chitinozoans from a Middle–Upper Ordovician succession at Songliang of Qiaojia, northestern Yunnan, southwestern China. Altogether 34 species of 12 genera are identified from the upper Hungshihyen and the Huadan formations. The top of the Hungshihyen Formation yields typical Early and Middle Ordovician forms, for instance, Lagenochitina obeligis and Belonechitina chenjiawuensis, with the latter only known from the lower Darriwilian in South China, thus suggesting an early Darriwilian age for this interval. The chitinozoans recovered from the Huadan Formation include Lagenochitina prussica and Spinachitina fossensis, both are mainly confined in Katian and sometimes ranging into younger strata. This indicates an age younger than the middle to late Darriwilian previously determined for the Huadan Formation. However, conflicts exist in age assignment of the Huadan Formation based on chitinozoan and other evidence, and further work is required.  相似文献

At Aktau Mountain in the Ili depression of eastern Kazakstan, fossil mammals that encompass the Paleogene-Neogene boundary occur at three stratigraphic levels. The lowest level is in the lower Kyzylbulak Formation and produces Brontotheriidae and the hyracodontidArdynia and is tentatively assigned a late Eocene (Ergilian) age. The lower part of the overlying Aktau Formation produces fossils of the giant rhinocerosParaceratherium and is tentatively assigned a late Oligocene (Tabenbulukian) age. The upper part of the Aktau Formation yields a fossil mammal assemblage that includesGomphotherium,Stephanocemas, Brachypotherium andLagomeryx. It is clearly of Miocene age, probably late early Miocene (late Burdigalian), a correlative of European Reference Level MN 5 and the late Shanwangian of China. The Paleogene-Neogene boundary at Aktau Mountain thus is in the Aktau Formation.  相似文献

Middle and Late Ordovician strata in the nearshore area of the western Yangtze Platform are investigated. In total, 241 δ13Ccarb samples and 108 conodont samples from the Songliang and Tuanjie sections in the northeastern Yunnan Province were collected for chemostratigraphic and biostratigraphic studies. Altogether, 21 species belonging to 16 conodont genera were recovered from the two sections, among which Ansella jemtlandica, Drepanoistodus basiovalis, Hamarodus brevirameus, and Microzarkodina hagetiana are important age indicators within the Dapingian to early Katian interval. Four carbon isotope shifts are recognized in the studied sections: a negative shift in the early Darriwilian, the middle Darriwilian carbon isotope excursion (MDICE), the early Katian Guttenberg carbon isotope excursion (GICE), and a further positive carbon isotope shift later in the early Katian which is a new record of this event in South China. Integrated carbon chemostratigraphy and conodont biostratigraphy indicate early Darriwilian and early Katian ages for the base and top, respectively, of the Huadan Formation at the Songliang section, and a Darriwilian to early Katian age for the Shihtzupu Formation at the Tuanjie section.  相似文献

Permian fusulinoidean faunas occur in mainly four stratigraphic levels in the Baoshan Block of West Yunnan and the Sibumasu Block of Southeast Asia, which constituted part of the eastern Cimmerian Continent. The oldest fauna, from the upper part of the Dingjiazhai Formation in the Baoshan Block, consists of Pseudofusulina, Eoparafusulina, and a new boultoniid genus, and is assignable to the Yakhtashian (=Artinskian). The second one, which occurs in the basal part of the Ratburi Limestone and its equivalent strata in the Sibumasu Block, is represented by Monodiexodina, and is probably referable to the Bolorian (=Kungurian). The third fauna, composed of Eopolydiexodina, Rugososchwagerina, Yangchienia, Chusenella, Jinzhangia, and several other genera, is dated to the Murgabian (=Wordian), and occurs in the lower part of the Shazipo and Daaozi formations in the Baoshan Block and the main part of the Ratburi Limestone in the Sibumasu Block. The youngest fauna of probably Dzhulfian (=Wuchiapingian) age is found in the upper part of the Ratburi Limestone, and contains Nanlingella, Reichelina, Codonofusiella?, and a few staffellid genera. A smaller foraminiferal genus, Shanita, found from the upper part of the Ratburi Limestone and the upper part of the Shazipo Formation is also an important element of the foraminiferal assemblage near the Midian-Dzhulfian (=Capitanian-Wuchiapingian) boundary in the Baoshan and Sibumasu blocks.In the eastern Cimmerian Continent, low generic diversity throughout the Permian and the paucity of Tethys-characterizing neoschwagerinid and verbeekinid genera during Middle Permian time are two remarkable features of the Permian fusulinoidean faunas. In the Cimmerian Continent, the generic diversity of Permian fusulinoidean faunas in space and time gradually increases from the Early Permian to late Middle Permian as well as from the eastern Cimmerian areas to western ones. The temporal increase of the generic diversity can be explained by the northward drift of the Cimmerian Continent during Permian time. In contrast, the lower generic diversity of the eastern Cimmerian Permian fusulinoidean faunas against western ones is possibly due to an oblique arrangement of the continent to paleolatitude. Thus, the western Cimmerian Continent was more proximal to the tropical Tethyan domain than its eastern part. In addition, the Middle Permian Cimmerian paleobiogeographic region is likely to be subdivided into two subregions, the western Tethyan Cimmerian and the eastern Gondwanan Cimmerian, based on the distribution pattern of verbeekinid and neoschwagerinid fusulinoideans and overall generic diversity. The scarce occurrence or total absence of these essentially Tethys-indicating fusulinoideans in the Baoshan and Sibumasu blocks suggests that the eastern Cimmerian Continent was still far from the equatoro-tropical Cathaysian domain and was probably in a warm temperate or subtropical zone until the end of the Permian. The eastern Cimmerian areas finally migrated into a tropical zone by the Late Triassic judging from well-developed Carnian sponge-coral buildups in the Chaiburi Formation in the Sibumasu Block.  相似文献

Permian plant fossils have never been reported from the Shan Plateau in eastern Myanmar. Recently, a black to gray carbonaceous mudstone unit containing abundant plant fossils was discovered just below the lowest part of Thitspin Limestone Formation from the Linwe Area, eastern Myanmar. Although only five taxa were identified, the plant assemblage provides the first evidence of the occurrence of Cathaysian elements in eastern Myanmar and potentially indicates the presence of a highly diverse Permian flora. Among the five species, Cordaites principalis and Annularia mucronata were cosmopolitan species; while Callipteridum cf. koraiense, Taeniopteris crassinervis Mo and Rhipidopsis lobata were mostly recorded in the Cathaysia Flora. Therefore, the present assemblage generally indicates a palaeobiogeographical affinity to the Cathaysian Province. Stratigraphically, Callipteridum cf. koraiense was mainly reported from Cisuralian to Wordian; whereas Taeniopteris crasssnervis Mo and Rhipidopsis lobata were recorded from Capitanian to Changhsingian, which suggests a general Permian age based on the plant assemblage itself only. However, the carbonaceous mudstone at the outcrop is overlain by the Thitspin Limestone Formation containing middle Guadalupian fusulinids. Based on previous faunal analyses, the Sibumasu terrane contains typical Gondwanan cold-water faunas during the early Cisuralian, warm-water faunas occurred after Sakmarian. Thus, age of the fossil-plant-containing carbonaceous mudstone is very likely between late Cisuralian and early Guadalupian as constrained by its overlying fusulinids and its warm Cathaysian palaeobiogeographical affinity.  相似文献

The lower levels of the Lipeón Formation, in the Eastern Cordillera, north-west Argentina, yield a marine-dominated palynomorph assemblage, together with graptolites of mid to late mid Llandovery age (Demirastrites convolutus and probably Stimulograptus sedgwickii zones). The palynomorph assemblage is dominated by acritarchs, but also contains algae and terrestrial cryptospores. Crassiangulina variacornuta, considered a potentially good global biostratigraphical marker for the Upper Llandovery is recovered for the first time from the Silurian of Argentina. The occurrence of this species in strata not younger than late Aeronian, and independently dated by graptolites, indicates an early first appearance for Crassiangulina variacornuta, in the Lipeón Formation, below the Aeronian/Telychian boundary. The lower part of the unit corresponds to a quiet marine environment; thus supporting that Crassiangulina variacornuta is a facies-sensitive acritarch.  相似文献

Rodents from the Nuhetingboerhe-Huheboerhe area in the Erlian Basin, Inner Mongolia, differ stratigraphically: primitive ctenodactyloids such as Chenomys and Yuanomys are dominant in the upper part of the Nomogen Formation; Tamquammys dominates in the Arshanto Formation; Asiomys, Pappocricetodon, and Yuomys appear in the lower part of the Irdin Manha Formation and Tamquammys is rarer in this formation than in the Arshanto Formation. The assemblage of the upper part of the Nomogen Formation is similar to that of the Lingcha Formation of Hunan, the Wutu Formation of Shandong, the Yuhuangding Formation of Hubei, and the Bumban Member of the Nara-Bulak Formation of Mongolia. The assemblage in the upper part of the Arshanto Formation is correlated with that from the locality Andarak 2 in Kyrgyzstan. The assemblage from the lower part of the Irdin Manha Formation resembles that of the lower part of the Hetaoyuan Formation of Henan.On the basis of the comparison of the rodent assemblages, I consider that the age of upper part of the Nomogen Formation corresponds to the Bumbanian land mammal age. The Bumbanian, Arshantan, and Irdinmanhan land mammal ages are correlated respectively to the early Ypresian, the middle–late Ypresian, and the early Lutetian of the Geological Time Scale. The Bumbanian and Irdinmanhan land mammal ages are also correlated to the early Wasatchian and the early Uintan (or the later Bridgerian) of the North American Land Mammal Ages.  相似文献

The Dawenkou Basin is a Cenozoic terrestrial fault basin in Shandong Province, East China, containing abundant mineral resources, especially gypsum. Recently a borehole was drilled in this basin unearthing the upper and middle members of the Dawenkou Formation. From the upper member, well-preserved ostracodes were discovered, which are entirely non-marine taxa including species of Eucypris, Caspiolla, Candona and Candoniella. Based on the new material, a new species Candona dawenkouensis n. sp. was erected. The ostracode assemblage biostratigraphically indicates an age of middle Eocene to Oligocene of the upper member of the Dawenkou Formation and the strata bearing mineral resources (mainly gypsum) of the middle member of the Dawenkou Formation is likely early Eocene.  相似文献

Newly discovered fossil localities in coarse-grained deposits of the Pennsylvanian and Permian Antler overlap assemblage in the southern Shoshone Range, north-central Nevada have yielded a low-diversity assemblage consisting chiefly of a new species of chonetoidean brachiopod: Dyoros (Lissosia) nevadaensis nov. sp. The subgenus Dyoros (Lissosia), is known from Leonardian and lower Guadalupian strata in North America, mainly in Texas.The coarse-grained lithology of the host strata, their unconformable relation on deformed lower Paleozoic rocks, and the Leonardian and(or) lower Guadalupian age indicated by Dyoros (Lissosia) provide evidence that host strata are younger than strata of the Antler overlap assemblage in nearby areas of the southern Shoshone Range and suggest that an unconformity of local extent may be present within the overlap assemblage. The fossil age ranges and lithologic data suggest that the host strata may be correlative with the Guadalupian Edna Mountain Formation, an unconformity-bounded unit that forms the upper part of the Antler sequence in the Battle Mountain area to the north. This correlation suggests that the unconformity beneath these strata may have regional extent in north-central Nevada. The origin of the inferred regional unconformity is unknown and may have resulted from relative changes of sea level or regional extensional or contractional tectonism in the area of the former Antler highlands, which forms the substrate for the Antler overlap assemblage.  相似文献

Ordovician silicified ostracods of the western Yangtze Platform, South China, are documented for the first time from the Huadan Formation of Qiaojia County, northeastern Yunnan Province, Southwest China. Twenty-one species of 17 genera are identified with new taxa including Vendona spinifera n. sp. and Nikitinella songliangensis n. sp. These two species, together with Medianella gigantea are the most common constituents of the fauna. Faunal comparison shows close connections between South China, Baltica, the Argentine Precordillera, Kazakhstan, Tarim, and Sibumasu during this time interval. This fauna is considered to be related to a nearshore carbonate environment, and biostratigraphical analysis of it supports a late Darriwilian to early Katian age for the Huadan Formation.  相似文献

The data on the plant fossils of the Trout Valley Formation of north-central Maine, U.S.A., are summarized. Evidence from lithological correlation, from plant megafossils and paleopalynology suggest a late Early Devonian (Emsian) age for the Formation. Plant megafossils present are several species of Psilophyton, Pertica quadrifaria, Kaulangiophyton akantha, Prototaxites sp., Drepanophycus sp., Taeniocrada sp. and Thursophyton sp. The microfossil assemblage, through poorly preserved, contains Deltoidospora sp., Apiculiretusispora sp., Emphanisporites rotatus, E. annulatus, Clivosisporites cf. C. verrucata, Grandispora sp. and a chitinozoan, Sphaerochitina sp. The ancient landscape is suggested as having been an area a few square miles in extent with modest relief and comparable to a modern brackish or fresh-water marsh. Three other floras, one in Maine, a second in New Brunswick, Canada, and a third along the coast of Gaspé Bay, Quebec, are thought to have been at least partially contemporaneous with the Trout Valley flora.  相似文献

The Jisu Honguer Formation (“Zhesi Formation”) is a North China marine carbonate unit of Permian age containing a mixed fauna of Tethyan, Boreal and endemic elements. The age of the Jisu Honguer Formation has been thought to range from Artinskian to Kazanian based on previous studies using mostly benthic macrofossils. A typical Mesogondolella aserrata conodont fauna is reported from the lower part of the upper member of the Jisu Honguer Formation in the Ulanqub District, Zhesi area, of northern China. The fauna indicates a Middle Permian (Guadalupian) age, most likely late Wordian to early Capitanian, for the strata yielding conodonts. The whole Jisu Honguer Formation could be assigned to the Wordian to early Capitanian age. The overlying Yihewusu Formation is probably of Capitanian age. There are no Wuchiapingian marine deposits in the Zhesi area. As characteristic of the open sea Guadalupian conodont faunas of the Tethys, smooth Mesogondolella dominate the fauna. The view that all Tethyan Guadalupian conodont faunas consist exclusively of serrated Mesogondolella cannot be confirmed. Three new species are described: Mesogondolella neoprolongata C. - y. Wang, Mesogondolella mandulaensis C. - y. Wang and Wardlawella jisuensis C. - y. Wang.  相似文献

Llandovery sporomorphs and graptolites have been recovered from the Manbo Formation, Mojiang area, western Yunnan, China, which belonged to the Indo-China Palaeoplate in the Palaeozoic. The graptolite fauna, including 8 genera and 12 species, is considered Mid Telychian, Llandovery in geological age, confirming the existence of Llandovery rocks in this region. The Silurian stratigraphical sequence of this area is reconsidered as in the ascending order: Manbo Formation (Llandovery–early Wenlock), Shuiqing Formation (late Wenlock–Ludlow) and unnamed formation (Pridoli?). The sporomorph assemblage from the Manbo Formation includes seven species in five genera. The dominant members of this assemblage are Tetrahedraletes medinensis and Laevolancis chibrikovae. Based on the low diversity and low abundance, the geological age of this assemblage is considered to be approximately the Telychian, Llandovery. The parent plants of sporomorphs probably inhabited the landmass near Mojiang area, these sporomorph-producing plants probably included bryophyte-like land plants and primitive vascular land plants. The sporomorph evidence shows that the South China and Indo-China palaeoplates may have been in close proximity (maybe with some continental bridges linking them) to each other at least in the Llandovery. They were also closely related with Gondwanaland in the Llandovery.  相似文献

High resolution biostratigraphic investigation of well preserved and highly diversified chitinozoan assemblages from core samples collected in the upper part of the Alternances Gréso-argileuses Formation (late Silurian) in well A1-61 (Tripolitania, north–western Libya) is undertaken. The chitinozoan assemblages document the range of several Pridolian taxa selected as index species for the global Silurian chitinozoan biozonation. Distribution of important accompanying species is also discussed. The abundance and the diversity of these chitinozoans are quantified and collated with the local environmental trends as deduced from the lithology, sedimentary features and from the associated organic walled microfossils (i.e. scolecodonts, eurypterid fragments, acritarchs, spores, leiospheres, cuticles and plant debris). The palaeogeographic distribution of late Silurian chitinozoans is discussed with a particular attention paid to a very distinctive chitinozoan assemblage characterising the middle part of the Pridoli of the Ibarmaghian Domain in northern Gondwana regions. Systematic notes, including detailed biometric investigations and SEM illustrations, are provided for selected taxa of taxonomic interest and useful for regional or more long distance correlation.  相似文献

The dry climate that prevailed during the Triassic period in the eastern part of the Central European Basin was interrupted by several humid episodes of varying durations. One of them was the Carnian Pluvial Episode (CPE), which took place in the late Julian (early Carnian age) and is confined to Camerosporites secatus and Aulisporites astigmosus palynological zones. CPE is marked by a significant change in the qualitative and quantitative composition of spore-pollen assemblages from mostly xerophytic species preserved in the upper part of the Grabfeld Formation (“Lower Gipskeuper”) to hygrophytic forms, which dominate in the Stuttgart Formation (“Schilfsandstein”). Changes in climate towards more humid conditions have been documented palynologically and sedimentologically, and analyzed utilizing quantitative spore-pollen analysis and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) of miospores occurring in core material from Poland. In all the studied boreholes, a shift from dry to wet climate is observed at the boundary between the Grabfeld Formation and the Stuttgart Formation, which matches the data from other European regions.  相似文献

Small plant fragments previously attributed to Dimeripteris cornuta SCHWEITZER and CAI and new specimens are described from the Middle Devonian (Givetian) Xichong Formation of Wuding, Yunnan Province, southwest China. A predominantly trifurcate branching pattern is recognized in lower orders of branching. Erect fusiform sporangia are borne in pairs terminally on a short pedicel on up to three times dichotomously-branching fertile unit. The beaked tips of the paired sporangia point outwards. This plant is distinguished from known plants by the trifurcate branching pattern and sporangia morphology, but is of problematic affinity. The plant is named Tauritheca cornuta (SCHWEITZER and CAI) WANG and BERRY nov. gen. and nov. comb.  相似文献

该文介绍了国内外关于早奥陶世早期的几丁虫研究现状,描述了峡东地区早奥陶世早期分乡组的几丁虫3属6种:Conochitina symmetrica,Conochitina cf.pomoti,Conochitina sp.A,Conochitina sp.B,Lagenochitina cf.combazi,Cyathochitina sp.。根据共生的笔石和牙形石以及这些几丁虫在世界其它地区的地质分布,讨论了其时代与对比问题。指出了长江三峡东部早奥陶世早期的几丁虫面貌与世界各地同期几丁虫生物古地理的亲缘关系。  相似文献
