The non «B» biotype ofBemisia tabaci (Gennadius) is recorded for the first time in Crete in 1992, in the north east and south east of the island.Trialeurodes vaporariorum (Westwood) is the predominant whitefly on plants in the north and west of the island. Three surveys of Crete were made in 1992 and 1993 for natural enemies ofB. tabaci andT. vaporariorum and resulted in the collection of 4 species ofEncarsia, (plus a number of species that are unidentifiable at this time), anEretmocerus sp. (unidentifiable at this time) and a fungal pathogen,Paecilomyces farinosus (Dickson Ex Fries) Brown &; Smith.Encarsia adrianae was identified fromT. vaporariorum; which constitutes its most westerly distribution point and a new host record respectively.B. tabaci andT. vaporariorum were found on horticultural crops, ornamentals and weeds. Populations of both whitefly species were severely depleted on field hosts throughout the island during the winter of 1992/93. Climatic constraints, competition withT. vaporariorum in otherwise suitable niches, effective natural enemies and an observed low level of polyphagy may explain the present limited distribution of the non «B» biotype ofB. tabaci in Crete.  相似文献

The relative influence of the southern fire ant, Solenopsis xyloni McCook, Argentine ant, Linepithema humile (Mayr), and native gray ant, Formica aerata (Francoeur), on parasitism of California red scale, Aonidiella aurantii Maskell, was studied in the laboratory for two parasitoids, Comperiella bifasciata Howard and Aphytis melinus DeBach. All three ant species reduced percentage parasitism by C. bifasciata and both percentage parasitism and host mutilation by A. melinus. Southern fire ant was the least disruptive and native gray ant the most disruptive. Southern fire ant removed 12% of scale from the lemons, presumably to feed on them, while the other ant species did not exhibit significant removal of scale compared to the controls. Percentage parasitism of California red scale exhibited by C. bifasciata was more than 2-fold the level exhibited by A. melinus. Percentage mutilation of California red scale, including probing and host feeding, was nearly 5-fold higher for A. melinus than C. bifasciata. Because A. melinus required a longer total host examination + oviposition period in the absence of ants than C. bifasciata and because oviposition occurs as the last act in a sequence of behaviors, disruption by the ants had a more significant negative effect on oviposition by A. melinus.  相似文献

The phenology of the San Jose scale was studied in a heavily-infested almond orchard in northern Greece. It appears that the scale there completes 3 generations per year. The majority of the population hibernates as 1st instar larvae. A series of releases were made using the introduced Hymenoptera parasiteProspaltella perniciosi Tower. Sampling results showed a very high mortality of the San Jose scale, Apart from the percentage due to climatic factors, the remainder is a result of the action of natural enemies. A considerable part of this action is attributable to the local entomophagous insects and especially the predators, of whichCybocephalus fodori Endrody-Younga appears to be the key species. The rest is attributable to the action of the released populations ofP. perniciosi. The main part of this paper was presented during the International Symposium held in Budapest (15–20 August 1983).  相似文献

用灭蝇胺、氟铃脲等6种昆虫生长调节剂和对比药剂辛硫磷LC40-50浓度处理葱蝇1龄和3龄幼虫,观察对其生长发育和繁殖的影响;并且研究了葱蝇成虫取食药剂对其繁殖力的控制效应。结果表明:6种药剂中除虫酰肼外,其余都对葱蝇幼虫发育历期、化蛹率、成虫产卵前期、成虫寿命、产卵量有很大影响,对其生长发育和繁殖表现出显著不利性。其中灭蝇胺和氟铃脲处理1龄幼虫后,存活幼虫的历期和成虫产卵前期各延长3天,化蛹率降低26.7%~30.0%,成虫寿命缩短22.3~24.3天,产卵量降低35.5%~49.9%;处理3龄幼虫主要导致产生畸形蛹,且正常羽化的成虫寿命降低18.0~20.67天,产卵量降低45.7%~57.8%。成虫连续取食用牛奶稀释的2 000倍的药液,能导致产卵前期延长、产卵量减少、卵孵化率降低,幼虫死亡率极高,达95%以上。结果提示,利用成虫补充营养的特性,将灭蝇胺和氟铃脲等混入牛奶或糖水中诱集成虫取食,可有效降低成虫的繁殖力,有助于实现对葱蝇的无公害治理。  相似文献

Little is known about the natural enemies of the leafhopperDalbulus spp. (Homoptera: Cicadellidae). Searches for its dryinid (wasps) parasitoids were made in Jalisco, Mexico. Jalisco contains the greatest number ofDalbulus species, and is considered to be near to the center of origin of this leafhopper genus and its host plants: maize, teosintes (Zea spp.) and gamagrasses (Tripsacum spp.). The dryinidGonatopus bartletti was found parasitizingD. maidis on maize and on annual teosinteZea mays spp.parviglumis. G. flavipes was found parasitizingD. elimatus on perennial teosinteZ. perennis; and a new speciesG. moyaraygozai andAnteon ciudadi parasitizingD. quinquenotatus onTripsacum pilosum andT. dactyloides. Parasitism by dryinids was found at altitudes of 680–2,000 m.Dalbulus maidis, the leafhopper species which causes the greatest losses in maize in Latin America, was found to be parasitized from 680–1,760 m. TheDalbulus species associated with annual host plants (maize andZ. mays spp.parviglumis) were parasitized by dryinids during the rainy season, while theDalbulus species associated with perennial host plants (Z. perennis andTripsacum) were parasitized by dryinids during both the rainy and dry season. The greatest diversity of dryinid parasitoids ofDalbulus spp. and the highest levels of parasitism were recorded from perennial plants, indicating that such species are reservoirs of natural enemies ofDalbulus spp.  相似文献

Gibberellic acid (GA,), chlorflurenol and ethrel were applied at different concentrations to either male or female trees of Myrica esculenta. GA3 induced intersexual flowers both on the male and female trees whereas chlorflurenol and ethrel induced similar (intersexual) flowers but only on the male plants. When GA3 was applied in combination with chlorflurenol, fewer intersexual inflorescences appeared on the male plants along with a significant decline in the number of flowers per inflorescence. In combination, chlorflurenol and ethrel induced copious female and intersexual inflorescences per male plant, especially when two successive treatments of 100 mg/I of chlorflurenol and 1920 mg/l of ethrel were applied. Pesticide-induced differential mortality betweenDelia antiqua(MEIGEN)and several other organisms associated with its natural control [D. platura(MEIGEN),Coenosia tigrina (F.),Entomophtora muscae (COHN), andAphaereta pallipes (SAY)] were evaluated under simulated field conditions. Direct and residual differential mortalities were described for 3 herbicides (Chloro-IPC, nitrofen, and CDAA), 3 fungicides (maneb, chlorothalonil, and copper sulfate), and 1 insecticide (malathion). The recommended field application rates of these chemicals produced high positive differential mortality levels betweenD. antiqua and some of the natural mortality agents. Chloro-IPC, a preplant and midseason herbicide, induced 100% mortality ofA. pallipes over the 3-day residual test period. Modifications in behavioral orientation and death patterns ofD. antiqua adults infected withE. muscae were also noted in malathion-treated flies such that subsequent conidial dispersal was highly restricted. Laboratory measurements of the functional response of adultCurinus coeruleus (Mulsant) to nymphs ofHeteropsylla cubana Crawford on filter paper and on leaves of different host plants showed a significant effect of these different substrates on nymph consumption at several different densities. Moreover, this effect may be explained by the influence of the substrate on the search rate of the predator. Host plants tested includedLeucaena leucocephala (Lam) de Witt,L. diversifolia (Schlecht.) Benth. andL. pallida Britton and Rose. Results obtained may be relevant to plant-protection research programs involving the integration of biological control with host-plant resistance.   相似文献

The impact of native natural enemies on populations of the grape mealybug,Pseudococcus maritimus (Ehrhorn) in apple and pear orchards was assessed using a combination of techniques, including exclusion cages, limb-banding, and visual inspection of shoots and fruits. The complex of native natural enemies (which included two encyrtid parasitoids, (Pseudaphycus websteri Timberlake andMayridia species), a coccinellid beetle (Hyperaspis lateralis Mulsant), and a chamaemyiid fly (Leucopis verticalis Malloch), provided reasonably good control in orchards that had not been treated with insecticides for one to two years. However, surveys indicated that most of these species were absent from orchards regularly sprayed with pesticides.  相似文献

We examined whether auxins and cytokinins, either singly or in combination, stimulate cell division in tissue cultures of a red seaweed. Our experimental model consisted of filamentous and callus-like growths that developed from cross-sectional discs cut from young branches of Agardhiella subulata. Plant growth regulators were added to the medium to give combinations of an auxin with a cytokinin over a range of concentrations (1 µg L–1 –10 mg L–1). Several mixtures of auxins and cytokinins, as well as some single auxins, cytokinins and phenolics, stimulated cell division and growth in the tissue cultures beyond that of controls. The treatments that were effective included: phenylacetic acid/zeatin; phenylacetic acid/6-benzylaminopurine; -naphthaleneacetic acid/zeatin; 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid/6-benzylaminopurine; and indoleacetic acid/kinetin. High concentrations of cytokinins (i.e. 10 mg L–1) inhibited the regeneration of plants in some of the cell cultures. These results provide further evidence that growth regulators can be used for the tissue culture of seaweeds and for the study of developmental phenomena in these plants.  相似文献

The effects of intercropping of wheat cultivars and oilseed rape on the densities of wheat aphid, Sitobion avenae, and their arthropod natural enemies were evaluated. Three winter wheat cultivars with different resistant levels to S. avenae were used: ‘KOK’ (high resistance), ‘Xiaobaidongmai’ (low resistance) and ‘Hongmanghong’ (susceptible). The results showed that the densities of S. avenae were significantly higher on the monoculture pattern than on either the 8-2 intercropping pattern (eight rows of wheat with two rows of oilseed rape) or the 8-4 intercropping pattern (eight rows of wheat with four rows of oilseed rape). The mean number of predators and the mummy rates of S. avenae were significantly higher in two intercropping patterns than those in the monoculture pattern. The densities of S. avenae, ladybeetles, and mummy rate of S. avenae were significantly different among different wheat cultivars. The highest densities of S. avenae and ladybeetles were found on wheat cultivar Hongmanghong. The lowest densities of S. avenae associated with high mummy rate of S. avenae were found on wheat cultivar Xiaobaidongmai. The results showed that wheat-oilseed rape intercropping conserved more predators and parasitoids than in wheat monoculture fields, and partial resistance of wheat cultivar Xiaobaidongmai had complementary or even synergistic effects on parasitoid of S. avenae.  相似文献

为探索麦田物种多样性对麦长管蚜Sitobion avenae的生态调控效应,于2007年10月至2008年7月在河北省廊坊市进行田间小区试验,系统调查了豌豆与小麦分别以2∶2,2∶4,2∶6和2∶8比例行间作(分别记作2-2间作、2-4间作、2-6间作和2-8间作)种植模式下麦长管蚜种群数量的时序动态, 同时分析了麦田主要天敌种群数量的时序动态、丰富度、多样性指数及均匀度的变化。结果表明:在麦长管蚜发生高峰期,小麦与豌豆间作麦长管蚜无翅蚜的百株蚜量(平方根转换)极显著低于单作田(P<0.01),其中小麦单作(77.38)>2-2间作(68.62)>2-4间作(68.51)>2-8间作(65.19)>2-6间作(64.94)。尽管不同种植模式下,麦长管蚜主要天敌的动态变化趋势基本一致,但间作处理的优势天敌瓢虫类和蚜茧蜂类均有较高的种群密度,天敌群落的丰富度明显提高,Shannon-Wiener多样性指数增加,但均匀度下降。总之,小麦间作豌豆不仅有效降低了麦长管蚜的种群数量,同时也增加了天敌控制害虫的稳定性和可持续性。  相似文献

In many agricultural systems spider mites are believed to be induced pests, only reaching damaging densities after pesticides decimate predator populations. Wine grapes typically receive two types of pesticides, insecticides and fungicides. Chemicals in either class could impact spider mite densities both directly through spider mite mortality, and indirectly by negatively affecting natural enemies. The impact of a broad-spectrum insecticide (chlorpyrifos) and an inorganic fungicide (sulfur) on mites and their natural enemies was monitored in replicate open-field experiments conducted in an abandoned vineyard in Washington State. In both experiments, chemicals were applied within a 2 × 2 factorial design, allowing assessment of both main and interactive effects of the two chemicals. Following typical management practices on wine grapes in Washington State, we made a single insecticide application early in the season, but repeatedly applied sulfur throughout the season. In the absence of sulfur, chlorpyrifos application led to higher spider mite densities. The main effect of chlorpyrifos appeared to be indirect, perhaps mediated through mortality of generalist phytoseiid mites; generalists appeared to be unable to recover following even a single insecticide application, while there was no evidence for harmful effects of chlorpyrifos on specialist phytoseiid mites. Sulfur had direct suppressive effects on both pest and predatory mites, although in the second experiment the suppressive effect of sulfur on spider mites was weaker when chlorpyrifos was also applied. These field experiments suggest that a complex mix of direct and indirect effects of the two chemicals impacted spider mite population dynamics in our system.  相似文献

The predatorThanasimus formicarius (L.) (Coleoptera, Cleridae) and its preyIps typographus (L.) (Coleoptera, Scolytidae) were studied in the laboratory and the field. In the laboratory, 11T. formicarius laid 71–132 eggs (mean=162) during 66–123 days. During this time they ate 66–132I. typographus adults per pair (male +female). The number of eggs laid per female was not correlated with life span or the number ofIps eaten. In the field, predation byT. formicarius larvae and other natural enemies onI. typographus brood was studied in the last year of an outbreak. Caged and uncaged spruce bolts attacked byI. typographus were used, and pairs ofT. formicarius were released in the cages. The treatments were: uncaged bolts, caged bolts withoutT. formicarius, caged bolts with 4T. formicarius pairs, and caged bolts with 8T. formicarius pairs. The productivity ofI. typographus was highest in the caged bolts withoutT. formicarius (mean=4.5 offspring/female) and lowest in the uncaged bolts (mean=0.9 offspring/female). The density ofI. typographus galleries was similar in the different treatments. Hence, the variation in productivity between treatments could not have been due to differences in the levels of intraspecific competition. There was no difference in bark beetle productivity or density ofT. formicarius larvae between bolts with 4 pairs ofT. formicarius and bolts with 8 pairs (mean=2.5 offspring/female). This indicates that some kind of interference occurred betweenT. formicarius individuals (e.g. cannibalism) and that a maximum level of predation was reached. Predation by larvae ofMedetera spp. (Diptera, Dolichopodidae),Thanasimus spp. and other beetles, and parasitism by wasps (Hymenoptera, Pteromalidae) probably caused the low productivity in the uncaged bolts.   相似文献

Variation in plant performance between microhabitats is usually attributed to direct mechanisms, such as plant physiological tolerances or competitive interactions. However, indirect mechanisms, such as differences in herbivore pressure mediated by microhabitat differences, could create the same pattern of variation. In this study, we investigated the effect of insect herbivore pressure on the growth of the grassland cactus Opuntia fragilis under different regimes of grassland canopy cover. Our purpose was to establish the extent to which canopy cover plays a direct, competitive role versus an indirect, mediatory role in cactus growth. We manipulated aboveground microhabitat, specifically the cover of adjacent grasses. The three treatments were: (1) open canopy, with grass pinned down away from the cactus; (2) shaded canopy, with a partial mesh cage staked over the cactus; and (3) ambient grass canopy. We measured seasonal plant growth and recorded changes in insect herbivore occurrence and damage in relation to cover. Cactus growth, defined as the change in number of live cladodes, was higher in the open than under either treatment where the plant was more shaded (P<0.05). However, allocation to new growth, measured as the proportion of new segments (cladodes) in a patch, did not differ among cover treatments. Thus, the hypothesis that physiological constraints, or competition for light, limited cactus performance in grass is rejected. Instead, we found that both cladode mortality, caused by the larvae of a cactus moth borer (Melitara dentata), and occurrence of the moth were lower in the open microhabitat than in either shaded microhabitat. Thus, higher net growth in the open, unshaded treatment, rather than representing a release from competition for light with grasses, was better explained as an indirect effect of grass cover on the activity and impact of the cactus moth. These results show that indirect effects can lead to a misinterpretation of experimental data on direct effects. These data also contribute to an improved understanding of mixed results in the biological control of weedy cacti. Clearly, future evaluations of the relative importance of physiology, competition, and insect herbivory in plant performance must be environmentally explicit.  相似文献

Field experiments were conducted with sesame (Sesamum indicum L. cv. Rama) for two years (1997 and 1998) to study the effect of three level of irrigation (F+C, B+C, B+F+C) and two growth regulators (CCC, 200 ppm CCC; 100 ppm and BX-112, 100 ppm; BX-112, 50 ppm) on growth (root and shoot length, average number of primary branches/plant), morpho-physiological growth parameters(LAI, LAD, CGR and NAR), yield attributing parameters(average number of capsule/plant, average number of seeds/capsule) and seed yield. Irrigation at B+F+C stage showed significant effect on these parameters. Among the growth regulators, CCC, 200 ppm showed remarkable results on these parameters and seed yield. Seed yield in CCC, 200 ppm treatment was more than 53% in comparison to water soaked seeds. The interaction between irrigation and PGR showed better seed yield and it was concluded that the growth regulator CCC might be utilized for enhancement of seed yield of summer sesame under field condition.  相似文献

The classical induction of Crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) in Mesembryanthemum crystallinum L. by water stress is observed within one week when fourto five-week-old plants (grown under a 16/8 h photoperiod at ca. 600 mol quanta · m–2 · s–1) are irrigated with 350 mM NaCl. The induction of CAM was evaluated by measuring phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPCase, EC 4.1.1.31) and NADP-malic enzyme (NADP-ME, EC 4.1.1.82) activities and nocturnal increases in malate content and titratable acidity of leaf extracts, and the daily pattern of CO2 exchange and stomatal conductance during the 7-d induction period. Three growth regulators, abscisic acid (ABA), farnesol (an antitranspirant and analog of ABA), and benzylaminopurine (BAP), were found to substitute for NaCl for induction of CAM when fed to plants in nutrient media. Daily irrigation with solutions containing micromolar levels (optimum ca. 10 micromolar) of these growth regulators led to the induction of CAM similar to that by high salt. Application of the growth regulators, like NaCl, caused large increases in the activity of NADP-ME and the activity and level of PEPCase, which are components of the biochemical machinery required for CAM. Western immunoblotting showed that the increased activity of PEPCase on addition of ABA, farnesol and BAP was mainly due to increased levels of the CAM-specific isoforms. Also, dehydration of cut leaves over 8.5 h under light resulted in a severalfold increase in PEPCase activity. An equivalent increase in PEPCase activity in excised leaves was also obtained by feeding 150 mM NaCl, or micromolar levels of ABA or BAP via the petiole, which supports results obtained by feeding the growth regulators to roots. However, the increase in PEPCase activity was inhibited by feeding high levels of BAP to cut leaves prior to dehydration, indicating a more complex response to the cytokinin. Effects of 67 herbicides — several of which were mixtures — and plant growth regulators on adult females of the rove beetle,Aleochara bilineata, were investigated in the laboratory. The pesticides were tested in concentrations equivalent to the highest recommended dosages for practical use. Mortality, egg production and hatch of the eggs were measured. Most herbicides had no serious effect on any of the parameters recorded. Among the urea herbicides, however, several showed adverse effects on egg production and/or hatch of the eggs laid. The strongest effect was exerted by methabenzthiazuron that impeded hatch of the eggs completely. Bromoxynil, pyridate and haloxyfod reduced survival, egg production and/or egg hatch to some degree, while carbaryl, which is also used as a plant growth regulator, killed all the beetles immediately. The usefulness of dose-response-studies and the importance of measuring sublethal effects are stressed, and the choice of herbicides showing no toxic effects is recommended.
Résumé Des expériences ont été faites au laboratoire pour tester les effets de 67 herbicides — dont plusieurs étaient des mélanges — et régulateurs de croissance des plantes sur les femelles adultes d'Aleochara bilineata. Les pesticides ont été testés à des concentrations équivalant aux dosages les plus élevés recommandés pour l'usage agricole. La mortalité, la production et l'éclosion des oeufs ont été mesurés. La plupart des herbicides n'ont pas d'effet important sur aucun des paramètres retenus. Parmi les herbicides à base d'urée cependant, plusieurs montrent des effets négatifs sur la production d'oeufs et/ou l'éclosion des oeufs. L'effet le plus fort a été provoqué par le métabenzthiazuron qui empêchait complètement l'éclosion des oeufs. Le bromoxynil, le pyridate et l'haloxyfop réduisaient la survie, la production d'œufs et/ou, jusqu'à un certain point, l'éclosion des œufs. Le carbaryl par contre, qui est aussi employé comme régulateur de croissance des plantes, tuait immédiatement tous les staphylins. L'utilité des études dose-réponse et l'importance de mesurer les effets sublétaux sont soulignés; le choix des herbicides ne montrant pas d'effet toxiques est recommandé.

The red spider mite Tetranychus evansi Baker and Pritchard is a pest of tomato in East and Southern Africa. It is probably native to South America. Three models were established to identify priority areas for the search of natural enemies in South America for classical biological control of this pest in Africa. The models were based on the concept of “fundamental ecological niche”, predicting regions in South America that have similar environmental conditions to areas where the mite is a problem in Africa, using Desktop-GARP (Genetic Algorithm for Rule-set Production). Based on the model established with data sets from Kenya and Zimbabwe, it was determined that priority areas include areas in Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, as well as some restricted areas in other South American countries.  相似文献

Morphogenesis and plant regeneration were analyzed in axenic tissueculture of the red alga Solieria filiformis (Kützing)Gabrielson. Thallus segments cultured in ASP 12-NTA synthetic medium showedgrowth of filaments formed by divisions of cortical, subcortical and medullarycells (filamentous explants), whereas in seawater enriched with Von Stosch'ssolution, thallus segments developed branches. Filamentous explants were abletoregenerate plants when transferred from a solid to a liquid medium. Plantregeneration was significantly promoted by treatment with plant growthregulators on filamentous explants formed from intercalary segments, up to 67plantlets per explant in treatments with 6-benzylaminopurine (5.0 mgl–1), in contrast to three plantlets in controlslackingplant growth regulators. These adventitious plantlets developed into plantsmorphologically similar to those originated from germinating spores. Theseresults indicate that plant growth regulators play a role on the regulation ofmorphogenesis, and could be useful for micropropagation of colloid-producingredalgae.  相似文献
