Spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) at 4 weeks of age were fed a diet supplemented with sunflowerseed oil (SO), evening primrose oil (EPO), fish oil (FO) or EPO + FO for 22 weeks. A diet with commercially available pellets served as control. Systolic blood pressure was significantly lower during and after FO, EPO and EPO + FO, whereas the lower level after SO was not significant when compared with the controls. Serum triglycerides and total cholesterol were lowest after EPO followed FO. The combination of both EPO and FO resulted in unexpected high values of triglycerides and cholesterol. HDL-cholesterol was likewise highest after EPO + FO. The results indicate a quantitatively different depression of blood pressure and serum lipids from SHR by individual polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA).  相似文献

Dietary fish oil, vitamin E, and probucol have been considered in a variety of human and experimental models of kidney disease. Using subtotal nephrectomized cholesterol-fed rats as a model for progressive kidney disease, we examined the effect of 5% dietary fish oil, or a combination of 5% dietary fish oil with 500 IU vitamin E/kg diet or 1% probucol on renal injury. Three-month-old Sprague Dawley rats were fed a control diet (C group) or a cholesterol supplemented (2%) diet (Ch group) containing either fish oil (FO group) or fish oil plus vitamin E (FO+E group) or fish oil plus probucol (FO+P group). After 4 weeks of dietary treatment, the right kidney was electrocoagulated and the left kidney nephrectomized. After 8 weeks, 24-hour urine was collected before sacrifice. No effect of the dietary treatments was noted on serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, or proteinuria, except that proteinuria was highest in FO+P group. Rats receiving the cholesterol diets had higher serum low density lipoprotein (LDL) + very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) cholesterol (P < 0.05). In contrast, rats in the FO+P group had the lowest serum total cholesterol and LDL+VLDL cholesterol among all groups. The FO group had 26% lower kidney alpha-tocopherol concentrations than the C group. However, inclusion of vitamin E in the diet (FO+E group) increased the kidney alpha-tocopherol status to a level comparable to that in the C group, whereas inclusion of probucol in fish oil diet (FO+P group) did not improve the kidney alpha-tocopherol status. Rats fed the cholesterol diet had a 2.5-fold higher glomerular segmental sclerosis (GSS) score and 1.5-fold higher glomerular macrophage (GM) subpopulation than the C group. These effects of the cholesterol diet were ameliorated by a fish oil diet (FO group: GSS by 30%, GM by 24%). The inclusion of vitamin E in the fish oil diet (FO+E group) did not further improve the GSS score or GM subpopulation. However, inclusion of probucol in fish oil diet (FO+P group) lowered the GSS score by 73% and reduced GM subpopulation by 83% compared with the Ch group. These remarkable changes can be attributed to the powerful hypocholesterolemic activity of probucol. Our findings indicate that progression of glomerular sclerosis in the rat remnant kidney model of progressive kidney disease can be significantly modulated with fish oil treatment.  相似文献

The intention of this experiment was to assess the effects of different sources of dietary lipid on the fatty acid composition of the fillet and liver and the flesh quality traits of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) after a 70‐day feeding period. Four iso‐nitrogenous (approx. 51% crude protein) and iso‐lipidic (approx. 14% crude lipid) experimental diets were formulated. The control diet contained only fish oil (FO) as the primary lipid source. In the other three dietary treatments, fish oil was replaced by 100% (LO30/SO35/SFO35) and 70% (FO30/LO35/SO35 or FO30/SO35/SFO35) sesame oil (SO), linseed oil (LO), or sunflower oil (SFO). Triplicate groups of 40 rainbow trout (~46 g) held under similar culture conditions were hand‐fed daily to apparent satiation for 70 days. At the end of the feeding trials, no difference in growth performance among experimental groups was noted (P > 0.05). There were some differences in the proximate composition of fish fillets (P < 0.05): the eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) levels were highest in fish fed the control diet (P < 0.05); and EPA and DHA levels in fish fed the FO30/LO35/SO35 diet were closest to the control diet (P < 0.05). In contrast, fish fed the diet containing 100% plant oils (LO30/SO35/SFO35) had the highest level of total n‐6 fatty acids in the fillet and liver. In a 12‐day refrigerated storage at 1°C the thiobarbituric acid (TBA), trimethylamin nitrogen (TMA‐N) and pH values gradually increased in all dietary groups (P < 0.05). The chemical indicators of spoilage, TBA, TMA‐N, and pH values were within the limit of acceptability for human consumption.  相似文献

We examined the effects of fish oil (FO) on high-cholesterol diet-induced hepatic lipid accumulation and oxidative stress. Female C57BL/6J mice were fed diets consisting of safflower oil (SO), 1 en% FO (1FO), 2 en% FO (2FO), or 20 en% FO (20FO) with or without 2 weight% (wt%) cholesterol (SO/CH, 1FO/CH, 2FO/CH, and 20FO/CH groups, respectively) for 8 weeks. The hepatic triacylglyceride levels were significantly lower in the 2FO/CH and 20FO/CH groups than in the SO/CH group. The hepatic mRNAs of fatty acid oxidation-related genes were upregulated and the fatty acid synthesis-related genes were downregulated by the FO feeding. Adverse effects were not observed in the plasma levels of indicators of oxidative stress in response to the consumption of FO up to 20 en%. These results suggest that FO consumption in the range of 2–20 en% prevents hepatic lipid accumulation, thus improving lipid metabolism without causing oxidative stress.  相似文献

将324尾健康框鳞镜鲤Cyprinus carpio var. specularis (10.700.70) g随机平均分配在室内循环水养殖系统的12个养殖缸里。在蚕蛹基础饲料中分别添加2%的大豆油(SO)、菜籽油(RO)、鱼油(FO)及混合油(MIX, 大豆油:菜籽油:鱼油=1:1:1), 配制4组等氮(36.5%)等脂(7.0%)饲料, 饲养58d后, 探讨框鳞镜鲤对不同脂肪源的利用效果。结果表明:(1)大豆油组终末体重显著大于混和油组, 肠长比显著大于其他各组, 肥满度和肠指数显著大于鱼油组(P0.05); 肝胰脏指数混合油组显著低于鱼油组和大豆油组, 菜籽油组显著低于大豆油组(P0.05); (2)全鱼水分大豆油组显著高于菜籽油组和混合油组, 粗脂肪含量显著低于其他各组(P0.05); 肌肉水分大豆油组显著大于鱼油组和混合油组(P0.05); 不同脂肪源对框鲤全鱼和肌肉的粗蛋白和灰分、肌肉粗脂肪、肝胰脏的一般体成分无显著影响(P0.05); (3)肝胰脏和肌肉脂肪酸组成基本反映了饲料的脂肪酸组成; 肝胰脏PUFA水平大豆油和菜籽油组相近, 均显著高于鱼油组(P0.05); 肌肉PUFA水平大豆油组显著高于鱼油组(P0.05), 肌肉HUFA水平菜籽油组显著高于鱼油组和混合油组(P0.05); (4)除菜籽油组血清GLU水平显著高于大豆油组外(P0.05), 4种脂肪源对框鲤其他血清生化指标水平没有显著影响(P0.05); (5)组间血清T-SOD活性没有显著差异(P0.05), 大豆油组GSH-XP活性显著大于其他各组(P0.05), MDA水平显著低于鱼油组及混合油组(P0.05), 鱼油组血清AKP活性显著低于其他各组(P0.05); 鱼油组肝胰脏T-SOD活性显著高于其他各组(P0.05), AKP活性显著高于菜籽油组和混合油(P0.05), GSH-XP活性显著高于混合油组(P0.05), MDA水平各组无显著差异(P0.05)。综上所述, 框鳞镜鲤对大豆油的利用效果最好, 其次是菜籽油、鱼油和混合油利用效果较差。    相似文献

Male Fischer 344 rats implanted with a methylcholanthrene-induced sarcoma (MCS), along with normal (or control) animals, were fed diets containing either 10% com oil (CO) or 2% CO + 8% fish oil (FO), designated as diets CO and FO, respectively, in a study designed to determine the effect of dietary FO on serum lipids (in the presence or absence of a tumor) and the growth and fatty acid composition of the MCS. For both diets, MCS-bearing rats had significantly (p < 0.05) higher serum levels of triglycerides, cholesterol, phospholipids, and total lipids than controls. For both controls and tumor-bearers, serum levels of all these lipids were, with the exception of cholesterol for the tumorbearers, significantly lower in rats receiving the FO diet than for the corresponding groups receiving the CO diet. Relative to rats fed the CO diet, those fed the FO diet had significantly higher serum levels of some fatty acids (e.g., 20:5n-3) but significantly lower levels of others (e.g., 18:2n-6), regardless of tumor status. For the tumor-bearers, differences in the levels of fatty acids in MCS tissue reflected differences in the fatty acid composition of total serum lipids. Sarcoma growth was unaffected by diet. Thus, feeding dietary FO resulted in changes in the lipid status of both control and tumor-bearing rats. Since sarcoma growth was unaffected by diet, the reduction in the severity of MCS-induced hyperlipidemia by FO appears to be due to an effect of the oil per se.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate effects of fish oil replacement by sesame oil in combination with other vegetable oils in diets with regard to growth performance, feed utilization, desaturation and elongation, whole fish and liver fatty acid profiles of juvenile rainbow trout. Sesame oil (SO) used in the feeds was a mixture of linseed (LO), sunflower (SFO) and fish oil (FO), whereas the control diet contained only FO. Duplicate groups of 60 rainbow trout (~7 g) held under similar culture conditions were fed 2% of their body weight per day for 75 days. At the end of feeding trials, there was no difference in feed utilization efficiency or growth performance between the control group and the groups with added sesame oil (P > 0.05). However, viscerosomatic and hepatosomatic index values were significantly higher (P < 0.05) in fish fed with FO30/SO35/SFO35 diets. Results showed that total body lipid levels of fish fed diets containing sunflower oil were higher than in the other experimental groups (P < 0.05). However, crude lipid levels were similar in fish fed the control diet and the diet with sesame oil (FO30/LO35/SO35), which is sunflower oil‐free. Crude lipid levels of fish livers were not influenced by the diets (P > 0.05). Diets with sesame oil increased desaturation and elongation of 18 : 3n‐3 towards n‐3 HUFA. The conclusion was that the diet addition of sesame oil in combination with other vegetable oils increased the nutritional quality of the whole fish and liver of juvenile rainbow trout, in particular the docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) level. Therefore, sesame oil may be of interest for use in aquaculture.  相似文献

Physical and textural properties of mayonnaise prepared using virgin coconut oil (VCO)/fish oil (FO) blends at different ratios were examined in comparison with that prepared using soybean oil (SO) as affected by storage time (30 days). At day 0, sample prepared with SO showed the highest L*, a*, and b* values among all the samples, whereas the lowest values were noticeable for VCO containing sample. At day 30 of storage, decreases in L*, and b* values of all mayonnaise samples were observed (p < 0.05). However, a* values were increased at day 30 of storage (p < 0.05). For texture analysis, highest firmness, consistency and cohesiveness were obtained for the sample containing SO. Increasing levels of FO in VCO/FO samples increased the firmness, consistency and cohesiveness. For all the samples, loss modulus (G″) values were lower than G′. After 30 days of storage, all samples demonstrated slight decreases in G′ and viscosity than freshly prepared mayonnaise (day 0). When the sample containing VCO/FO (90:10) blend was further characterized, slight difference was observed in microscopic structure and droplet size distribution before and after storage of 30 days. Increase in droplet size was noticeable because of coalescence after the storage. Overall, type of oil used for preparation of mayonnaise as well as storage time affected the physical properties including textural and rheological properties of mayonnaise.

We tested the effects of 8 wk of-tocopherol (vitamin E) and fish oil (FO) supplementation on resting and exercise-induced oxidative stress. Rats(n = 80) were divided into groupssupplemented with FO, FO and vitamin E (FOVE), soy oil (SO), and SO andvitamin E (SOVE), and for FOVE and SOVE they were dividedinto corresponding exercise groups (FOVE-Ex and SOVE-Ex). Lipidperoxidation [thiobarbituric acid-reacting substances(TBARS)] was 33% higher in FO compared with SO in the liver, butoxidative protein damage (carbonyl levels) remained similar in bothliver and red gastrocnemius muscle (RG). Vitamin E supplementation,compared with FO and SO, markedly decreased liver and RG TBARS, butliver TBARS remained 32% higher in FOVE vs. SOVE. Vitamin E alsomarkedly decreased liver and RG protein carbonyl levels, althoughlevels in FOVE and SOVE were similar. Exercise increased liver and RGTBARS and RG protein carbonyl levels markedly, with similar levels inFOVE-Ex and SOVE-Ex. FO increased lipid peroxidation but not proteinoxidation in a tissue-specific manner. Vitamin E markedly decreasedlipid peroxidation and protein oxidation in both FOVE and SOVE,although liver lipid peroxidation remained higher in FOVE. Despitehigher levels of hepatic lipid peroxidation at rest in FOVE comparedwith SOVE, liver appeared to be relatively less susceptible toexercise-induced oxidative stress in FOVE.

Increased concentration of low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol or decreased level of high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol are important risk factors for coronary atherosclerosis. However, an independent association of triglycerides (TG) with atherosclerosis is uncertain.The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate the relationship between serum lipid levels and the extent of coronary atherosclerosis in patients with suspected coronary artery disease (CAD) and no previous myocardial infarction who were not treated with lipids lowering therapy or low-lipid diet.The study was conducted in 141 patients (53.6 ± 7.8 years old; 32 female) who underwent a routine coronary angiography for CAD diagnosis. A modified angiographic Gensini Score (GS) was used to reflect the extent of coronary atherosclerosis. Fasting serum lipid concentrations were determined using cholesterol esterase/peroxidase (CHOD/PAP) enzymatic method for total cholesterol and its fractions and lipase glycerol kinase (GPO/PAP) enzymatic method TG evaluation. The association of Gensini Score with variables characterising lipid profile was analysed with the use of Pearson correlation (r co-efficient; p value).GS was positively correlated with total cholesterol (r = 0.404; p < 0.001), LDL cholesterol (r = 0.484; p < 0.001) and TG (r = 0.235; p = 0.005). There was a negative correlation between Gensini Score and HDL cholesterol (r = –0.396; p < 0.001).In angina pectoris patients with no previous myocardial infarction, the extent of coronary atherosclerosis is positively correlated with pro-atherogenic lipids, i.e. total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and TG and negatively correlated with antiatherogenic HDL cholesterol.  相似文献

Leptin, the product of the obese gene, and peroxisome proliferator activated receptor gamma (PPARgamma) are important regulators of energy metabolism, adipogenesis, and immune function. In rodent models, both genes seem to respond at the mRNA and/or protein levels to dietary fat consumption. To determine the effect(s) of dietary saturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids on the expression (mRNA abundance) of these genes, adipose tissue was obtained from pigs fed three different dietary fat sources. Corn-soybean meal diets containing no added fat (NO, control) or 10% beef tallow (BT), safflower oil (SO), or fish oil (FO) were fed ad libitum (n = 12) for 12 weeks. The abundance of obese, PPARgamma1, and PPARgamma2 mRNA was quantified relative to 18S rRNA using ribonuclease protection assays. The gain:feed ratio was improved (P < 0.05) 21% by all fats with a corresponding reduction (P < 0.05) in feed intake. Relative to pigs fed NO, serum total cholesterol was increased (P < 0.01) in pigs fed BT and triglyceride and nonesterified fatty acid concentrations were increased (P < 0.01) by all supplemental fats. Serum insulin was increased (P < 0.10) only by SO. Neither obese nor PPARgamma1 mRNA abundance were responsive to added fat (P > 0.15). However, the abundance of PPARgamma2 mRNA was increased fourfold by SO compared with the NO diet. These data indicate that the abundance of obese mRNA is independent of dietary fat consumption per se, whether saturated or unsaturated, when feed consumption is reduced due to greater dietary caloric density. Furthermore, we provide evidence that expression of the PPARgamma2 gene in porcine adipose tissue is selectively responsive to SO (presumably linoleic acid, 18:2n-6).  相似文献

Echium oil (EO), which is enriched in 18:4 n-3, the immediate product of fatty acid desaturase 2 (FADS2) desaturation of 18:3 n-3, is as atheroprotective as fish oil (FO). The objective of this study was to determine whether botanical oils enriched in the FADS2 products 18:3 n-6 versus 18:4 n-3 are equally atheroprotective. LDL receptor KO mice were fed one of four atherogenic diets containing 0.2% cholesterol and 10% calories as palm oil (PO) plus 10% calories as: 1) PO; 2) borage oil (BO; 18:3 n-6 enriched); 3) EO (18:4 n-3 enriched); or 4) FO for 16 weeks. Mice fed BO, EO, and FO versus PO had significantly lower plasma total and VLDL cholesterol concentrations; hepatic neutral lipid content and inflammation, aortic CE content, aortic root intimal area and macrophage content; and peritoneal macrophage inflammation, CE content, and ex vivo chemotaxis. Atheromas lacked oxidized CEs despite abundant generation of macrophage 12/15 lipooxygenase-derived metabolites. We conclude that botanical oils enriched in 18:3 n-6 and 18:4 n-3 PUFAs beyond the rate-limiting FADS2 enzyme are equally effective in preventing atherosclerosis and hepatosteatosis compared with saturated/monounsaturated fat due to cellular enrichment of ≥20 PUFAs, reduced plasma VLDL, and attenuated macrophage inflammation.  相似文献

n?3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) present in fish oil (FO) potently decrease serum lipids, which is also an effect of thyroid hormones. Both PUFAs and thyroid hormones affect hepatic lipid metabolism, and here we hypothesized that a long-term diet rich in n?3 PUFAs would enhance thyroid hormone action in the liver. Female rats received isocaloric and normolipid diets containing either soybean oil (SO) or FO during lactation. Male offspring received the same diet as their dams since weaning until sacrifice when they were 11 weeks old. FO group, as compared to SO group, exhibited lower body weight since 5 weeks of age until sacrifice, with no alterations in food ingestion, lower retroperitoneal white fat mass and elevated inguinal fat mass relative to body weight, with unchanged water and lipid but reduced protein percentage in their carcasses. FO diet resulted in lower serum triglycerides and cholesterol. Serum total triiodothyronine, total thyroxine and thyrotropin were similar between groups. However, liver thyroid hormone receptor (TR) β1 protein expression was higher in the FO group and correlated negatively with serum lipids. Liver 5′-deiodinase activity, which converts thyroxine into triiodothyronine, was similar between groups. However, the activity of hepatic mitochondrial glycerophosphate dehydrogenase, the enzyme involved in thermogenesis and a well-characterized target stimulated by T3 via TRβ1, was higher in the FO group, suggesting enhancement of thyroid hormone action. These findings suggest that the increase in thyroid hormone signaling pathways in the liver may be one of the mechanisms by which n?3 PUFAs exert part of their effects on lipid metabolism.  相似文献

This study investigated the effects of fish oil on adhesion molecule expression and tissue myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity in hypercholesterolemic mice with sepsis. There were one control and two experimental groups in this study. The control group (C) was fed a regular chow diet for 7 weeks, while hypercholesterolemia in the experimental group was induced by feeding a high-fat diet (20%, w/w) with cholesterol (2%, w/w) for 4 weeks. Then the experimental group was divided into two subgroups with identical nutrient distributions except that one subgroup was fed soybean oil (SO), while part of the soybean oil was replaced by fish oil (FO) in the other one for 3 weeks. After feeding the diets for 7 weeks, sepsis was induced in all three groups by cecal and ligation and puncture (CLP), and mice were sacrificed at 0, 6 or 24 h after CLP, respectively. The results showed that the FO group had a higher intracellular interferon-gamma/interleukin-4 ratio and lower tumor necrosis factor-alpha and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 concentrations in peritoneal lavage fluid at 6 h after CLP than those in the C and SO groups. Lymphocyte CD11a/CD18 expressions were higher at 0 and 6 h and neutrophil CD11b/CD18 were higher at 6 h in the SO group than in the FO and C groups. The SO group had higher plasma intercellular adhesion molecule (ICAM)-1 levels than C group at 0 and 6 h, whereas no difference in ICAM-1 concentrations were observed between the C and FO groups at 0 h after CLP. Hypercholesterolemia resulted in higher tissue MPO activities. There were no differences in MPO activities in various organs between the two experimental groups. These results suggest that hypercholesterolemic mice fed FO did not exhibit immunosuppression when complicated with sepsis. FO administration reduced adhesion molecule expressions and inflammatory-related mediators at the site of injury at an early but not a late stage of sepsis. However, compared with the SO group, the influences of FO on MPO activities in various organs were not obvious in hypercholesterolemic mice with sepsis.  相似文献

The objective of this experiment was to examine the effects of dietary n-3 or n-6 fatty acid (FA) supplementation on blood FA, metabolite and hormone concentrations, follicle size and dynamics and corpus luteum (CL) size. Reproductively normal heifers (n = 24) were individually fed diets of chopped straw and concentrate containing either (i) no added lipid (CON; n = 8); (ii) 2% added fat as whole raw soya beans (WSB, n-6; n = 8); or (iii) 2% added fat as fish oil (FO, n-3; n = 8). Following oestrous cycle synchronisation, blood samples were collected at appropriate times and intervals for the measurement of hormones, FAs and metabolites. On days 15 and 16 of the cycle, animals were subjected to an intravenous oxytocin challenge and prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α) response, measured as venous concentrations of 13,14-dihydro-15-keto PGF2α (PGFM). Dry matter intake and average daily gain were similar among treatments (P > 0.05). Plasma concentration of linoleic acid was highest on WSB (P < 0.05), while eicosapentaenoic (EPA, n-3; P < 0.0001) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, n-3; P < 0.0001) were greatest in the FO group. Plasma concentrations of arachidonic acid were higher on FO (P < 0.05) compared with CON and WSB. Plasma triglyceride concentrations increased, while β-hydroxybutyrate (BHBA) decreased with time on all diets (P < 0.05). There was a diet × time interaction (P < 0.01) for non-esterified fatty acid (NEFA) concentrations. Plasma cholesterol was higher on WSB and FO (P < 0.01) compared with CON. Progesterone (P4) and oestradiol (E2) concentrations, as well as follicle growth rate and CL diameter were similar across diets (P > 0.05). There was a diet × day interaction for PGFM (P < 0.01). When corrected for systemic E2 : P4 ratio, day 15 concentrations of PGFM were higher in the WSB group at 15 and 30 min (P < 0.01) post oxytocin administration compared with CON and FO, which were similar (P > 0.05). Concentrations of PGFM on day 16 were similar for WSB and FO and were greater than CON at 15 (P < 0.01) and 45 min (P < 0.05) post oxytocin administration, and at 30 min for FO (P < 0.05). With the exception of PGFM, dietary lipid source did not affect the reproductive variables measured.  相似文献

The worldwide increase in aquaculture production and the concurrent decrease of wild fish stocks has made the replacement of fish oil in aquafeeds an industry priority. Oil from a plant source Echium plantagineum L., Boraginaceae, has high levels of stearidonic acid (SDA, 18:4omega3, 14%) a biosynthetic precursor of omega-3 long-chain (> or =C(20)) polyunsaturated fatty acids (omega3 LC-PUFA). Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) parr were fed a control fish oil diet (FO) or one of 3 experimental diets with 100% canola oil (CO) 100% SDA oil (SO), and a 1:1 mix of CO and SDA oil (MX) for 42 days. There were no differences in the growth or feed efficiency between the four diets. However, there were significant differences in the fatty acid (FA) profiles of the red and white muscle tissues. Significantly higher amounts of SDA, eicosapentaenoic acid (20:5omega3, EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (22:6omega3, DHA) and total omega3 FA occurred in both red and white muscle tissues of fish fed SO and FO compared with those fed CO. Feeding SO diet resulted in omega3 LC-PUFA amounts in the white and red muscle being comparable to the FO diet. This study shows that absolute concentration (mug/g) of EPA, DHA and total omega3 have been maintained over 6 weeks for Atlantic salmon fed 14% SDA oil. The balance between increased biosynthesis and retention of omega3 LC-PUFA to maintain the concentrations observed in the SO fed fish remains to be conclusively determined, and further studies are needed to ascertain this.  相似文献

Although replacement of dietary saturated fat with monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids (MUFA and PUFA) has been advocated for the reduction of cardiovascular disease risk, diets high in PUFA could increase low density lipoprotein (LDL) susceptibility to oxidation, potentially contributing to the pathology of atherosclerosis. To investigate this possibility, 15 postmenopausal women in a blinded crossover trial consumed 15 g of sunflower oil (SU) providing 12.3 g/day of oleate, safflower oil (SA) providing 10.5 g/day of linoleate, and fish oil (FO) providing 2.0 g/day of eicosapentaenoate (EPA) and 1.4 g/day of docosahexaenoate (DHA). During CuSO(4)-mediated oxidation, LDL was depleted of alpha-tocopherol more rapidly after FO supplementation than after supplementation with SU (P = 0.0001) and SA (P = 0.05). In LDL phospholipid and cholesteryl ester fractions, loss of n-3 PUFA was greater and loss of n-6 PUFA less after FO supplementation than after SU and SA supplementation (P < 0.05 for all), but loss of total PUFA did not differ. The lag phase for phosphatidylcholine hydroperoxide (PCOOH) formation was shorter after FO supplementation than after supplementation with SU (P = 0.0001) and SA (P = 0.006), whereas the lag phase for cholesteryl linoleate hydroperoxide (CE18:2OOH) formation was shorter after FO supplementation than after SU (P = 0.03) but not SA. In contrast, maximal rates of PCOOH and CE18:2OOH formation were lower after FO supplementation than after SA (P = 0.02 and 0.0001, respectively) and maximal concentrations of PCOOH and CE18:2OOH were lower after FO supplementation than after SA (P = 0.03 and 0.0006, respectively). Taken together, our results suggest that FO supplementation does not increase the overall oxidation of LDL ex vivo, especially when compared with SA supplementation. Fat-1 transgenic mice endogenously convert n-6 to n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). The aims of this study were to test whether a) fish oil feeding can attain similar brain n-3 PUFA levels as the fat-1 mouse, and b) fat-1 mouse brain docosahexaenoic acid (22:6n-3; DHA) levels can be potentiated by fish oil feeding. Fat-1 mice and their wildtype littermates consumed either a 10% safflower oil (SO) or a 2% fish oil and 8% safflower oil chow (FO). Brain total lipid and phospholipid fraction fatty acids were analyzed using GC-FID. Wildtype mice fed FO chow had similar brain levels of DHA as fat-1 mice fed SO chow. Fat-1 mice fed FO chow had similar brain n-3 PUFA levels as fat-1 mice fed SO chow. In conclusion, brain levels of DHA in the fat-1 mouse can be obtained by and were not further augmented with fish oil feeding.  相似文献

在基础配合饲料中添加(4%)不同脂肪源[鱼油、猪油、豆油、花生油、混合油I(鱼油:豆油=1:1)、混合油Ⅱ(鱼油:猪油:豆油:花生油=1:1:1:1)]配制成6组实验饲料,对体重(2.23±0.05)g的管角螺幼螺进行60d的饲养试验。结果表明,鱼油组摄食率(34.10g/d·ind·10^3)、增重率(64.33%)和特定生长率(0.79%)最高,与混合油I组没有显著差异(P〉0.05),并显著高于其他各组(P〈0.05),最低的为猪油组;肝体比没有显著差异(P〉0.05),猪油组最高(1.33),混合油I组最低(1.22);饲料转化率和存活率没有显著差异(P〉0.05);鱼油组粗蛋白含量(肌肉:18.35%;肝脏:17.55%)显著高于猪油组、豆油组、花生油组和混合油Ⅱ组,猪油组(2.96%)和鱼油组(2.86%)肝脏粗脂肪含量显著高于其他各组(P〈0.05),水分和灰分没有显著差异(P〉0.05);鱼油组EPA(肌肉:4.44%;肝脏:5.89%)和DHA(肌肉:4.53%;肝脏:5.65%)含量,n-3/n-6(肌肉:1.57;肝脏:1.69)均最高.与混合油I组没有显著差异(P〉0.05)。从人体健康和生产角度来说,以混合油I作为管角螺脂肪源不但可以得到较好的生长效果,还可以节约饲料成本。  相似文献

Red clover and fish oil (FO) are known to alter ruminal lipid biohydrogenation leading to an increase in the polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) content of ruminant-derived foods, respectively. The potential to exploit these beneficial effects were examined using eight Hereford × Friesian steers fitted with rumen and duodenal cannulae. Treatments consisted of grass silage or red clover silage fed at 90% of ad libitum intake and FO supplementation at 0, 10, 20 or 30 g/kg diet dry matter (DM). The experiment was conducted with two animals per FO level and treatments formed extra-period Latin squares. Flows of fatty acids at the duodenum were assessed using ytterbium acetate and chromium ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid as indigestible markers. Intakes of DM were higher (P < 0.001) for red clover silage than grass silage (5.98 v. 5.09 kg/day). There was a linear interaction effect (P = 0.004) to FO with a reduction in DM intake in steers fed red clover silage supplemented with 30 g FO/kg diet DM. Apparent ruminal biohydrogenation of C18:2n-6 and C18:3n-3 were lower (P < 0.001) for red clover silage than grass silage (0.83 and 0.79 v. 0.87 and 0.87, respectively), whilst FO increased the extent of biohydrogenation on both diets. Ruminal biohydrogenation of C20:5n-3 and C22:6n-3 was extensive on both silage diets, averaging 0.94 and 0.97, respectively. Inclusion of FO in the diet enhanced the flow of total CLA leaving the rumen with an average across silages of 0.22, 0.31, 0.41 and 0.44 g/day for 0, 10, 20 or 30 g FO/kg, respectively, with a linear interaction effect between the two silages (P = 0.03). FO also showed a dose-dependent increase in the flow of trans-C18:1 intermediates at the duodenum from 4.6 to 15.0 g/day on grass silage and from 9.4 to 22.5 g/day for red clover silage. Concentrations of trans-C18:1 with double bonds from Δ4-16 in duodenal digesta were all elevated in response to FO in both diets, with trans-11 being the predominant isomer. FO inhibited the complete biohydrogenation of dietary PUFA on both diets, whilst red clover increased the flow of C18:2n-6 and C18:3n-3 compared with grass silage. In conclusion, supplementing red clover silage-based diets with FO represents a novel nutritional strategy for enhancing the concentrations of beneficial fatty acids in ruminant milk and meat.  相似文献
