Two methods were evaluated for the inactivation of African swine fever (ASV) and swine vesicular disease (SVD) viruses in pig slurry: chemical treatment and heat treatment. The addition of NaOH or Ca(OH)2 at different concentration/time combinations at 4 degrees C and 22 degrees C was examined, as was virus stability at different temperature/time combinations. ASF virus (ASFV) was less resistant to both methods than SVD virus (SVDV). In slurry from one source, ASFV was inactivated at 65 degrees C within 1 min, whereas SVDV required at least 2 min at 65 degrees C. However, it was found that thermal inactivation depended on the characteristics of the slurry used. Addition of 1% (w/v) of NaOH or Ca(OH)2 caused the inactivation of ASFV within 150 s at 4 degrees C; 0.5% (w/v) NaOH or Ca(OH)2 required 30 min for inactivation. NaOH or Ca(OH)2 (1% (w/v)) was not effective against SVDV at 22 degrees C after 30 min, and 1.5% (w/v) NaOH or Ca(OH)2 caused inactivation of SVDV at both 4 degrees C and 22 degrees C. At higher chemical concentrations or temperatures, ASFV and SVDV inactivation was faster in slurry than in buffered medium.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the action of two types of stressors in Sprague-Dawley (S-D) and Lewis (LEW) rats differing in their hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis activity on locomotion and rearing in an open space. Exposure to restraint immobilization alone (IMO) or this immobilization combined with cold water (22 degrees C) immersion (IMO+C) lasted for 1 h and started 2 or 5 h before the test. To evaluate the acute and persisting effects of both stressors, four trials were performed in one-week intervals; rats were exposed to the stressors in trial 1 and 3. While in LEW rats both acute stressors produced reduction of locomotion and rearing in all stressed groups, S-D rats responded with a decrease of both parameters only after IMO+C presented 2 h before testing. Neither strain displayed a changed performance one week after the first stress exposure. One week after the second stress exposure rats of both strains exhibited a tendency to an increase of both parameters reaching the significance in several experimental groups. The findings indicate: a) the IMO+C produced stronger behavioral alteration than IMO alone; b) the behavioral responses to stressors were more pronounced in LEW compared to S-D strain; c) change from the reduction of activity to its increase may be interpreted as bi-directional manifestation of long-term effects of immobilization stress.  相似文献

One of the commercial lots of yellow fever vaccine has been attested as the National Branch Standard (NBS) of yellow fever vaccine. This NBS has been studied in all tests required by the regulations for standard vaccines. The NBS has been found to meet the necessary requirements in all its characteristics. The study of the thermostability of the NBS at temperatures of 4-10 degrees C, 20-22 degrees C, 37 degrees C during storage for 24 hours to 1 year has revealed the rapid loss of the infectious capacity of the virus at the above temperatures and its high stability during storage at -20 degrees C. Thus, the NBS has been found to retain the required level of immunizing potency for 3 months at a temperature of 4-10 degrees C, for 1 month at 20-22 degrees C and for 2 weeks (the term of observation) at 37 degrees C. The heat resistance of the NBS of yellow fever vaccine corresponds to the WHO requirements. The newly developed NBS has been used as the standard preparation for controlling 27 lots of commercial yellow fever vaccine.  相似文献

Experiments were performed on coral species containing clade A (Stylophora pistillata, Montipora aequituberculata) or clade C (Acropora sp., Pavona cactus) zooxanthellae. The photosynthetic efficiency (F(v)/F(m)) of the corals was first assessed during a short-term increase in temperature (from 27 degrees C to 29 degrees C, 32 degrees C, and 34 degrees C) and acute exposure to UV radiation (20.5 W m(-2) UVA and 1.2 W m(-2) UVB) alone or in combination. Increasing temperature to 34 degrees C significantly decreased the F(v)/F(m) in S. pistillata and M. aequituberculata. Increased UV radiation alone significantly decreased the F(v)/F(m) of all coral species, even at 27 degrees C. There was a combined effect of temperature and UV radiation, which reduced F(v)/F(m) in all corals by 25% to 40%. During a long-term exposure to UV radiation (17 days) the F(v)/F(m) was significantly reduced after 3 days' exposure in all species, which did not recover their initial values, even after 17 days. By this time, all corals had synthesized mycosporine-like amino acids (MAAs). The concentration and diversity of MAAs differed among species, being higher for corals containing clade A zooxanthellae. Prolonged exposure to UV radiation at the nonstressful temperature of 27 degrees C conferred protection against independent, thermally induced photoinhibition in all four species.  相似文献

The effect of 21 days of starvation, followed by a period of compensatory growth during refeeding, was studied in juvenile roach Rutilus rutilus during winter and summer, at 4, 20 and 27° C acclimation temperature and at a constant photoperiod (12L : 12D). Although light conditions were the same during summer and winter experiments and fish were acclimated to the same temperatures, there were significant differences in a range of variables between summer and winter. Generally winter fish were better prepared to face starvation than summer fish, especially when acclimated at a realistic cold season water temperature of 4° C. In winter, the cold acclimated fish had a two to three‐fold larger relative liver size with an approximately double fractional lipid content, in comparison to summer animals at the same temperature. Their white muscle protein and glycogen concentration, but not their lipid content, were significantly higher. Season, independent of photoperiod or reproductive cycle, was therefore an important factor that determined the physiological status of the animal, and should generally be taken into account when fish are acclimated to different temperature regimes. There were no significant differences between seasons with respect to growth. Juvenile roach showed compensatory growth at all three acclimation temperatures with maximal rates of compensatory growth at 27° C. The replenishment of body energy stores, which were utilized during the starvation period, was responsible for the observed mass gain at 4° C. The contribution of the different energy resources (protein, glycogen and lipid) was dependent on acclimation temperature. In 20 and 27° C acclimated roach, the energetic needs during food deprivation were met by metabolizing white muscle energy stores. While the concentration of white muscle glycogen had decreased after the fasting period, the concentrations of white muscle lipid and protein remained more or less constant. The mobilization of protein and fat was revealed by the reduced size of the muscle after fasting, which was reflected in a decrease in condition factor. At 20° C, liver lipids and glycogen were mobilized, which caused a decrease both in the relative liver size and in the concentration of these substrates. Liver size was also decreased after fasting in the 4° C acclimated fish, but the substrate concentrations remained stable. This experimental group additionally utilized white muscle glycogen during food deprivation. Almost all measured variables were back at the control level within 7 days of refeeding.  相似文献

Elevation of the incubation temperature of Xenopus laevis neurulae from 22 to 33-35 degrees C induced the accumulation of heat shock protein (hsp) 70 mRNA (2.7 kilobases (kb)) and a putative hsp 87 mRNA (3.2 kb). While constitutive levels of both hsp mRNAs were detectable in unfertilized eggs and cleavage-stage embryos, heat-induced accumulation was not observed until after the mid-blastula stage. Exposure of Xenopus laevis embryos to other stressors, such as sodium arsenite or ethanol, also induced a developmental stage-dependent accumulation of hsp 70 mRNA. To characterize the effect of temperature on hsp 70 mRNA induction, neurulae were exposed to a range of temperatures (27-37 degrees C) for 1 h. Heat-induced hsp 70 mRNA accumulation was first detectable at 27 degrees C, with relatively greater levels at 30-35 degrees C and lower levels at 37 degrees C. A more complex effect of temperature on hsp 70 mRNA accumulation was observed in a series of time course experiments. While continuous exposure of neurulae to heat shock (27-35 degrees C) induced a transient accumulation of hsp 70 mRNA, the temporal pattern of hsp 70 mRNA accumulation was temperature dependent. Exposure of embryos to 33-35 degrees C induced maximum relative levels of hsp 70 mRNA within 1-1.5 h, while at 30 and 27 degrees C peak hsp 70 mRNA accumulation occurred at 3 and 12 h, respectively.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Mild psychological stressors provoke an acute rise in core temperature (T(C)), stimulate the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenocortical (HPA) axis, and induce various stress-related behaviors. In the present study, we examined the effect of ablation of the anteroventral third ventricle region (AV3V) on both physiological and behavioral responses to a novel environment. T(C) was monitored in male Sprague-Dawley rats, with either sham or AV3V lesions, during a 5-h exposure to a novel environment. Trunk blood was collected, in a second group of rats, for the assessment of plasma levels of ACTH and corticosterone. Novelty-induced grooming and rearing behaviors were assessed in a third group of animals. T(C) was elevated in all animals after 30 min in the novel environment, but the rise was exaggerated in rats with AV3V lesions ( approximately 0.5 degrees C). AV3V-lesion rats maintained a higher core temperature for 2 h before it returned to the same level as the control group. Plasma levels of ACTH and corticosterone were also exaggerated in the AV3V lesion group after 30 min in a novel environment. In contrast to the physiological responses, the behavioral measures of grooming and rearing revealed no differences between the groups. The results from the current study suggest that neurons within the AV3V region exert an inhibitory influence on the HPA axis and fever developed in response to stressful psychological stimuli. They also confirm that the physiological and hormonal components of the stress response are independent of certain behavioral measures of stress.  相似文献

Guinea pigs with anteroventral third ventricle region (AV3V) lesions fail to develop fever and the associated rise in acute-phase plasma protein levels following systemic injections of lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Since endogenous pyrogen (EP) injected directly into the preoptic area of animals with AV3V lesions causes appropriate elevations in core temperature (Tco) and acute-phase plasma proteins levels, the blocked responses to LPS probably are not due to damage to the adjacent preoptic area. We proposed, therefore, that EP may pass from blood into brain in the AV3V, presumably through the organum vasculosum laminae terminalis. However, the possibility that a more generalized impairment due to damaged pathways within the AV3V could account for the observed effects was not examined. To investigate this possibility, guinea pigs were given AV3V lesions. Pending histological verification of the ablated sites, AV3V lesions were presumed to be placed correctly if the animals did not develop fever following LPS (Salmonella enteritidis, 2 micrograms/kg i.p., at ambient temperature (Ta) 22 degrees C); those failing to meet this criterion were designated as sham-operated. Two experiments were conducted. In the first, metabolic rates, Tco, and two skin temperatures (Tsk) were measured at Ta 12 degrees, 22 degrees, and 32 degrees C over an 8-month postlesion period during which failure to fever persisted; the data were collected during a 30-min period after thermal balance had been achieved at any given Ta. There were no differences in the variables measured between sham-operated and AV3V-lesioned animals at Ta 22 degrees C.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Rearing temperature influences flavivirus vector competence of mosquitoes   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Culex annulirostris Skuse mosquitoes (Brisbane strain) were reared at 20 degrees C or 27 degrees C and the adult females were experimentally infected by feeding Murray Valley encephalitis virus (MVE). They were then maintained (a) in the insectary at 20 degrees C, after rearing at either 20 degrees C or 27 degrees C; (b) at ambient outdoor temperatures, range 12.2-28.9 degrees C, mean 19.6 degrees C; or (c) at 27 degrees C after rearing at 27 degrees C. There was no significant difference in rates of MVE infection or transmission when mosquitoes were reared and maintained constantly at 20 degrees C or 27 degrees C. However, for females kept at reduced temperature (i.e. mean = 19.6 degrees C or 20 degrees C after rearing at 27 degrees C), the infection and transmission rates of MVE were significantly reduced (2 x 8 replicates). This investigation illustrates that vector competence is depressed by decreasing temperatures for adult mosquitoes compared with those they experienced during development. Similar patterns were evident with previously published work on Japanese and St Louis encephalitis, dengue and yellow fever. The process appears to be reversible, i.e. increased temperature raises virus infection and transmission rates. It is concluded that, without incubation at warmer temperatures, flavivirus recovery from overwintering mosquitoes will be negatively biased.  相似文献

Stressor-associated alterations in porcine plasma prolactin   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Experiments were conducted to determine effects of restraint and thermal stressors on plasma prolactin (PRL) in castrated male pigs. A single 20-min restraining period in a restraining cage which prevented both movement and injury increased (P less than 0.05) plasma PRL when applied at either 0800 or 1600 hr. Exposure to 32 degrees C at 0800-1000 hr or at 1600-1800 hr produced more moderate increases (P less than 0.05). A combination of 20 min restraint and 2 hr at 32 degrees C produced a response similar to restraint alone. Twenty minutes after stressor application plasma PRL concentrations in pigs exposed to restraint or restraint +32 degrees C at 1600 h were greater (P less than 0.05) than concentrations measured in all other treatment groups at that time interval. However, there were no statistically significant differences in additional quantitative indices of the plasma PRL responses (maximal level, maximal change, or integrated response above basal levels) among restraint, 32 degrees C, or restraint +32 degrees C, nor between morning and afternoon applications of treatment. Such data do not provide, therefore, any strong evidence for stressor-dependent or circadian differences in plasma PRL response. A second study subjected castrated male pigs to 20 degrees C (controls), 20 +/- 12 degrees C (cyclic temperature, sine wave variation), 5 degrees C constant, and 5 +/- 12 degrees C cyclic for 20 days. After 6 days exposure to 5 degrees C constant or 5 +/- 12 degrees C cyclic there were decreases (P less than 0.05) of 59 and 67% respectively in plasma PRL when compared either with pretreatment levels or with levels in pigs at 20 or 20 +/- 12 degrees C. There were no differences in PRL responses between cyclic vs constant temperatures. These results are the first to indicate that plasma PRL in pigs is affected by acute restraint and thermal stressors.  相似文献

A selective medium was used to enumerate Clostridium botulinum growing in the presence of natural spoilage organisms in a model cured pork slurry. The growth responses of a mixed spore inoculum of six strains of Cl. botulinum type A were studied at 15 degrees, 20 degrees and 27 degrees C with 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 or 4.5% (w/v) salt added (aw range 0.961-0.990). Gompertz and logistic curves, which have a sigmoid shape, were fitted to the data and lag times, growth rates, generation times and time to maximum growth rates were derived. Variation in germination rates of the spores occasionally gave a falsely extended lag time resulting in an exceptionally high estimate for growth rate. Products containing 4.5% (w/v) NaCl would be capable of supporting growth of proteolytic strains of Cl. botulinum, even at 15 degrees C, although the lag period would be extended. In products where absence of Cl. botulinum cannot be assured additional preservative measures are essential. The information obtained provides a framework to investigate the effects of a wider range of additives or variables on the growth responses of Cl. botulinum.  相似文献

128 experiments were carried out on febrile rabbits at air temperatures of 8, 18, 24 and 30 degrees C in order to analyze the thermoregulatory effects and mechanisms of physical and/or pharmacological counter-measures. Fever was achieved by injection of 0.1 micrograms Salmonella typhi endotoxin (LPS)/kg into an ear vein. As the pharmacological counter-measure, injections of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) into an ear vein were chosen. For the physical counter-measure, cooling thermodes (5 degrees C) were constructed for the abdominal skin, for the ear and for the rectum. ASA injections had no effect on the first fever maximum, even if applied 20 to 60 min before the LPS injection, but eliminated the second fever maximum. Of course, the additional hyperthermia observed at 30 degrees C ambient temperature could not be eliminated by the injections. On the other hand, cooling procedures can obviously not affect the pyrogen-induced temperature increase, but reduce the hyperthermic effect of a higher ambient temperature. Rectal cooling was more effective than ear or abdominal skin cooling. Abdominal cooling evoked an increase in metabolic heat production. Application of combined physical and pharmacological counter-measures achieved the strongest and quickest reduction of the second maximum, whereas the first maximum was not affected, as in all other experiments. The study emphasizes the necessity of taking into account the time course of the effector mechanisms in order to discriminate between hyperthermic and febrile components of temperature increase. In the initial phase cooling measures would evoke unwanted regulatory responses of the effectors, whereas during the second febrile maximum they would achieve a quicker reduction of core temperatures.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

There is now ample evidence that blind individuals outperform sighted individuals in various tasks involving the non-visual senses. In line with these results, we recently showed that visual deprivation from birth leads to an increased sensitivity to pain. As many studies have shown that congenitally and late blind individuals show differences in their degree of compensatory plasticity, we here address the question whether late blind individuals also show hypersensitivity to nociceptive stimulation. We therefore compared pain thresholds and responses to supra-threshold nociceptive stimuli in congenitally blind, late blind and normally sighted volunteers. Participants also filled in questionnaires measuring attention and anxiety towards pain in everyday life. Results show that late blind participants have pain thresholds and ratings of supra-threshold heat nociceptive stimuli similar to the normally sighted, whereas congenitally blind participants are hypersensitive to nociceptive thermal stimuli. Furthermore, results of the pain questionnaires did not allow to discriminate late blind from normal sighted participants, whereas congenitally blind individuals had a different pattern of responses. Taken together, these results suggest that enhanced sensitivity to pain following visual deprivation is likely due to neuroplastic changes related to the early loss of vision.  相似文献

Fever improves survival and shortens disease duration in microbial infections. However, the mechanisms of these beneficial responses still remain elusive. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) play important roles in sensing microbes invading and therefore we hypothesized that fever range temperature may enhance responsiveness of dendritic cells (DCs) to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) by promoting TLR4 expression and signaling. In this study, we found that pretreatment of DCs with 39.5 degrees C temperature can up-regulate TLR4 expression in DCs and enhances LPS-induced DC production of interleukins (IL) IL-6, IL-10 and IL-12 but not tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha). Blockade of the autocrine action of IL-10 could increase LPS-induced TNF-alpha and IL-12 production in DCs. Further experiments confirmed that TLR4 ligation activates extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), p38, and nuclear factor-kappaB pathways more potently in DCs pretreated with 39.5 degrees C. We conclude that fever range temperature can promote TLR4 expression and signaling in DCs, leading to enhancement of immune responses to inflammatory stimuli. These results might reveal a possible mechanistic explanation for the significance of fever in activating innate immune responses.  相似文献

Batch xanthan fermentations by Xanthomonas campestris NRRL B-1459 at various temperatures ranging between 22 degrees C and 35 degrees C were studied. At 24 degrees C or lower, xanthan formation lagged significantly behind cell growth, resembling typical secondary metabolism. However, at 27 degrees C and higher, xanthan biosynthesis followed cell growth from the beginning of the exponential phase and continued into the stationary phase. Cell growth at 35 degrees C was very slow; the specific growth rate was near zero. The specific growth rate had a maximum value of 0.26 h(-1) at temperatures between 27 degrees C and 31 degrees C. Cell yield decreased from 0.53 g/g glucose at 22 degrees C to 0.28 g/g glucose at 33 degrees C, whereas xanthan yield increased from 54% at 22 degrees C to 90% at 33 degrees C. The specific xanthan formation rate also increased with increasing temperature. The pyruvate content of xanthan produced at various temperatures ranged between 1.9% and 4.5%, with the maximum occurring between 27 degrees C and 30 degrees C. These results suggest that the optimal temperatures for cell growth are between 24 degrees C and 27 degrees C, whereas those for xanthan formation are between 30 degrees C and 33 degrees C. For single-stage batch fermentation, the optimal temperature for xanthan fermentation is thus dependent on the design criteria (i. e., fermentation rate, xanthan yield, and gum qualities). However, a two-stage fermentation process with temperature shift-up from 27 degrees C to 32 degrees C is suggested to optimize both cell growth and xanthan formation, respectively, at each stage, and thus to improve overall xanthan fermentation.  相似文献

With rapid global change, organisms in natural systems are exposed to a multitude of stressors that likely co‐occur, with uncertain impacts. We explored individual and cumulative effects of co‐occurring environmental stressors on the striking, yet poorly understood, phenomenon of facultative migration. We reared offspring of a brown trout population that naturally demonstrates facultative anadromy (sea migration), under different environmental stressor treatments and measured life history responses in terms of migratory tactics and freshwater maturation rates. Juvenile fish were exposed to reduced food availability, temperatures elevated to 1.8°C above natural conditions or both treatments in combination over 18 months of experimental tank rearing. When considered in isolation, reduced food had negative effects on the size, mass and condition of fish across the experiment. We detected variable effects of warm temperatures (negative effects on size and mass, but positive effect on lipids). When combined with food restriction, temperature effects on these traits were less pronounced, implying antagonistic stressor effects on morphological traits. Stressors combined additively, but had opposing effects on life history tactics: migration increased and maturation rates decreased under low food conditions, whereas the opposite occurred in the warm temperature treatment. Not all fish had expressed maturation or migration tactics by the end of the study, and the frequency of these ‘unassigned’ fish was higher in food deprivation treatments, but lower in warm treatments. Fish showing migration tactics were smaller and in poorer condition than fish showing maturation tactics, but were similar in size to unassigned fish. We further detected effects of food restriction on hypo‐osmoregulatory function of migrants that may influence the fitness benefits of the migratory tactic at sea. We also highlight that responses to multiple stressors may vary depending on the response considered. Collectively, our results indicate contrasting effects of environmental stressors on life history trajectories in a facultatively migratory species.  相似文献

Understanding the effects of environmental change on natural ecosystems is a major challenge, particularly when multiple stressors interact to produce unexpected “ecological surprises” in the form of complex, nonadditive effects that can amplify or reduce their individual effects. Animals often respond behaviorally to environmental change, and multiple stressors can have both population‐level and community‐level effects. However, the individual, not combined, effects of stressors on animal behavior are commonly studied. There is a need to understand how animals respond to the more complex combinations of stressors that occur in nature, which requires a systematic and rigorous approach to quantify the various potential behavioral responses to the independent and interactive effects of stressors. We illustrate a robust, systematic approach for understanding behavioral responses to multiple stressors based on integrating schemes used to quantitatively classify interactions in multiple‐stressor research and to qualitatively view interactions between multiple stimuli in behavioral experiments. We introduce and unify the two frameworks, highlighting their conceptual and methodological similarities, and use four case studies to demonstrate how this unification could improve our interpretation of interactions in behavioral experiments and guide efforts to manage the effects of multiple stressors. Our unified approach: (1) provides behavioral ecologists with a more rigorous and systematic way to quantify how animals respond to interactions between multiple stimuli, an important theoretical advance, (2) helps us better understand how animals behave when they encounter multiple, potentially interacting stressors, and (3) contributes more generally to the understanding of “ecological surprises” in multiple stressors research.  相似文献

Two of the major stressors endured by a motorsport athlete (MSA) during a racing event are the effects of heat and carbon monoxide. To date, there has been little research into their combined effect on driving performance. Using an interactive racecar simulator located within an environmental chamber, subjects drove a simulated race (60 min) in environmental conditions similar to those that develop during a NASCAR Winston Cup oval track race (50 degrees C ambient temperature and 10-12% carboxyhaemoglobin levels). Subjects also completed cool (20 degrees C) and heat only (50 degrees C) race simulations. During the simulations, oxygen consumption, heart rate, core and skin temperatures and psychomotor performance were measured. The results demonstrated that exposure to a racecar micro-environment combining both heat and CO produced significantly greater (P<0.05) sweat loss and core temperature change (1.53 kg; 1.06 degrees C) when compared to the heat only (1.14 kg; 0.73 degrees C) and cool conditions (0.35 kg; 0.09 degrees C). Furthermore, a significant decrease (P<0.05) in psychomotor performance was also shown between the heat/CO condition (contact points=38), and both the heat only (25 points) and cool conditions (22 points). It follows that lengthy exposure to these two stressors could produce a substantial decrement in driving performance, thereby endangering the MSA and other race competitors.  相似文献

The effects of acute and long-term changes in temperature upon catalytic and calcium regulatory function of red (slow oxidative) and white (fast glycolytic) muscle from striped bass (Morone saxatilis) were determined. Acclimation to 5 degrees C or 25 degrees C had no significant effect on catalytic function (ATPase activity) or regulatory sensitivity (Ca++-activation) of myofibrils from either muscle type. Substantial differences between red and white muscle were found in the intrinsic thermal sensitivity of maximally-activated Mg++-Ca++ myofibrillar ATPase. Arrhenius plots of myofibrillar ATPase from white muscle show one significant breakpoint at 29 degrees C, with activation energies (Ea) of 2.3 and 23.4 kcal mole-1 at temperatures above and below this transition, respectively. Arrhenius plots of myofibrillar ATPase from red muscle show two transitions occurring at 22 and 9 degrees C, with Ea of 7.6 kcal mole-1 above 22 degrees C and 18.3 kcal mole-1 between 9 and 22 degrees C. Activation energies for myofibrils from red muscle increase substantially to approximately 107.3 kcal mole-1 below the 9 degrees C breakpoint. Differences in the intrinsic thermal sensitivity of red and white muscle catalytic function are apparently due to interaction of actomyosins and calcium regulatory proteins which are specific to each muscle type. The results suggest that capacity for sustained swimming in striped bass, which is powered exclusively by red muscle, will be severely impaired at cold temperature unless compensations occur above the level of contractile proteins.  相似文献
