A NEW SPECIES OF LYCOPODIUM L．FROM SICHUAN

Species L. herteriano Kumm. similis, sed differt foliis angusto-ellipticis vel oblanceolatis, superne dentatis. A L. serrato Th1lnb. foliis subcoriaceis, costis utrinque leyiter visibilibus differt.Caules erecti, circ. 18 cm. alti, multidichotomi, basi 3 min. diametro. Folia spiraliter disposita 6-fariam, reflexa, subcoriacea, angusto-elliptica vel oblanceolata,7-9 mm. longa et 1.5-2 mm. lata, apice acuminata versus basin angustata, superne remote dentatal costis utrinque paullo prominentibus. Sporangia in ramulis juvenalibus, axillaria, reniformia, luteola, 1 mm. longa et l.5 mm. lata.

A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF POMATORHINUS HERETOFORE RECORDED FROM CHINA

A systematic review is made of the scimitar-babblers (Pomatorhinus) heretofore re-corded from China, presenting a total of 4 species and 21(1?) subspecies, of which onesubspecies (P. ruficollis intermedius)is found to be new to science. DESCRIPTION OF A KUBANOCHOERUS SKULL FROM TONGXIN, NINGXIA

<正> A rich Middle Miocene mammalian fauna was discovered in a gully named Maerzuizi Gou, Tongxin County, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, in the winter of 1985. Among the fossils is a well preserved skull evidently belonging to Kubanochoerus. It is the third and, as far as we know, the best preserved of its kind so far in the world. A careful study of the skull has enabled us not only to review all the fossils previously discovered and assigned either to Listriodon or to Bunolistriodon in China, but also to clarify in certain degree the evolutionary trend and the classification of that particular group.     

LUNGMACHI FORMATION GRAPTOLITES FROM SANLANGPU OF XIXIANG, SOUTHERN SHAANXI

The specimens referred to the Lungmachi Formation graptolites in the present paper were collected from Sanlangpu of Xixiang, Southern Shaanxi, consisting of 8 genera and 51 species or subspecies including 12 new species (see Table l in the Chinese text). This paper describes only the new species, with the rest being shown in tablesand plates. According to the present data on hand, the Lungmachi Formation graptolites studied here may be divided into 4 zones as follows:4. Orthograptus vesiculosus Zone (L_3)3. Parakidograptus acuminatus Zone (L_2)2. Glyptograptus persculptus Zone (L_1)1. Diplograptus bohemicus Zone (W_6)The first graptolite zone belongs to the Upper Ordovician, while the others to the Lower Silurian, indicating that the Lungmachi Formation in our studied area is a lithostratigraphic unit stridling across the Ordovician-Silurian boundary.This paper is in commemoration of the respectable late Prof. Mu En-zhi, to whom the writers are very much obliged for his kindness inguiding their scientific researches.

LOSS OF GIBBERELLINS BY LEACHING FROM STEMS AND FOLIAGE OF CHRYSANTHEMUM MORIFOLIUM ‘PRINCESS ANNE’

Structurally complex metabolites such as carbohydrates, organic acids, and amino acids are leached from plants by rain and dew. Applied GA₃ (1 mg/ml) absorbed by a 5-cm stem segment of Chrysanthemum morifolium and translocated to a single attached leaf was leached from the leaf with distilled water. To detect endogenous gibberellins in plant leachates, Chrysanthemum morifolium ‘Princess Anne’ plants were leached under 8-hr and 18-hr photoperiods. The leachates were collected and extracted at pH 8.2 with methylene chloride to*** remove inhibitors and at pH 3.0 to remove gibberellins. The extract containing the gibberellins was fractionated on a silica gel column by an eluting phase of 0 to 100% ethyl acetate-n-hexane solutions. The presence of gibberellin-like substances was confirmed by their elution pattern from the silica gel column and by two bioassays, the lettuce hypocotyl and the Rumex bioassays. The results suggest that substances similar to GA_1–3 and GA₅ were leached from plants growing under an 18-hr photoperiod. The leachate from plants growing under an 8-hr photoperiod contained gibberellin-like substances similar to GA_1–3 and GA₆.
