The study aimed to evaluate extraction efficiency, detection and quantification of phytochemicals, minerals and antioxidative capacity of different parts of Salacia chinensis L. Continuous shaking extraction, steam bath assisted extraction, ultrasonic extraction and microwave assisted extraction with varied time intervals were employed for extraction of phenolics, flavonoids, and antioxidants. Preliminary screening revealed the presence of wide array of metabolites along with carbohydrates and starch. Steam bath assisted extraction for 10 min exposure was found most suitable for extraction phenolics (46.02 ± 2.30 mg of gallic acid equivalent per gram of dry weight and 48.57 ± 2.42 mg of tannic acid equivalent per gram of dry weight) and flavonoids (35.26 ± 1.61 mg of quercetin equivalent per gram of dry weight and 51.60 ± 2.58 mg of ellagic acid equivalent per gram of dry weight). In support, reverse phase-high performance liquid chromatography- diode array detector confirmed the presence of seven pharmaceutically important phenolic acids. Antioxidant capacity was measured by 1, 1- diphenyl-1-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH), ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), 2, 2′-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) scavenging (ABTS) and N, N-dimethyl-p-phenylenediamine (DMPD) assays and represented as trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC) and ascorbic acid equivalent antioxidant capacity (AEAC). Antioxidant capacity ranged from 121.02 ± 6.05 to 1567.28 ± 78.36 µM trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity and 56.62 ± 2.83 to 972.48 ± 48.62 µM ascorbic acid equivalent antioxidant capacity. Roots showed higher yields of illustrated biochemical parameters, however fresh fruit pulp was found a chief source of minerals. Gas chromatography-mass spectroscopic analysis revealed the presence of a vast array of phytoconstituents associated with different plant parts. The present study revealed the amounts of minerals and diverse phytoconstituents in various parts of S. chinensis and confirmed its medicinal and nutritional implications.  相似文献

The cocoon of insect larvae is thought to help conserve water while affording mechanical protection. If the cocoon is a barrier to water loss, then it must also impose a barrier to inward oxygen diffusion. We tested this hypothesis in pupae of the silkworm, Bombyx mori. The rate of water loss and oxygen uptake (V?O2) at 25 °C was measured in control pupae in their naturally spun cocoon and in exposed pupae experimentally removed from their cocoon. Additional measurements included the oxygen diffusion coefficient, DO2, of the cocoon wall and dimensions and density of the cocoon fibers. Water loss (as % body mass loss) in both control and exposed pupae was ~ 1%.day? 1, and was not significantly different between populations. Similarly, V?O2 was statistically identical in both control and exposed pupae, at 0.22 ± 0.01 and 0.21 ± 0.02 mL g? 1 · h? 1, respectively. The silk fiber diameter was significantly different in the outer fibers, 26 ± 1 µm, compared with 16 ± 1 µm for the inner fibers lining the cocoon. Inner fibers were also spun significantly more densely (20.8 ± 1.2 mm? 1 transect) than outer fibers (8.3 ± 0.2). Mean DO2 at 25 °C was 0.298 ± 0.002 cm2 · s? 1, approximately the same as unstirred air. These data indicate that the cocoon, while creating a tough barrier offering mechanical protection to the pupa, imposes no barrier to the diffusion of oxygen or water vapor.  相似文献

Despite the crucial role of breast milk mineral contents for health and growth of the infants, they decrease with the duration of lactation. So, this pilot study aimed to determine the effects of synbiotic supplementation on breast milk mineral composition and infants’ growth. In this pilot, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 57 lactating mothers were randomly divided into two groups to receive a daily supplement of synbiotic (n = 30) or a placebo (n = 27) for 30 days. Breast milk zinc, copper, Iron, magnesium and, calcium concentrations were determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. Weight for age Z-score (WAZ) and height for age Z-score (HAZ) were assessed for infants. Dietary intake was collected from lactating women using the 24-h recall method. Data analyses were carried out using nutritionist IV, Epi Info and SPSS soft wares. Synbiotic supplementation led to an insignificant increase of the mean breast milk levels of zinc (from 2.44 ± 0.65 to 2.55 ± 0.55 mg L−1), copper (from 0.35 ± 0.24 to 0.40 ± 0.26 mg L−1), iron (from 0.28 ± 0.42 to 0.31 ± 0.38 mg L−1), magnesium (from 17.14 ± 1.35 to 17.17 ± 1.09 mg L−1), and calcium (from 189 ± 25.3 to 189.9 ± 21.7 mg L−1); whilst in the placebo group, these variables decreased significantly (P = 0.001). The observed changes between two groups were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Although WAZ and HAZ of infants increased slightly in the supplemented group (from 1.19 ± 0.79 to 1.20 ± 0.69 and 0.36 ± 0.86 to 0.37 ± 0.85 respectively), these two parameters decreased in the placebo group which was significant only for WAZ (P = 0.01). Moreover, no significant association was found between mineral intake and breast milk mineral contents. It seems, synbiotic supplementation may have positive effects on breast milk mineral contents.  相似文献

In vitro penetration (IVP) of swine oocytes by homologous spermatozoa was evaluated in two experiments using four boars as semen donors. In experiment 1, the IVP rate and the number of penetrating spermatozoa (PSP) were compared using three co-incubation systems for vitrified oocytes and fresh sperm: (1) 35 mL petri dishes in a CO2 incubator, (2) 35 mL petri dishes in bags (submarine system) and (3) glass flasks partially submerged in water bath with the same gas mixture used for the bag system. Mean PSP was 8.2 ± 10.1 and the IVP rate was 90.5%. The PSP differed across all systems (P = 0.0006): 15.5 ± 0.5 for flasks, 6.3 ± 0.4 for CO2, and 3.9 ± 0.4 for bags. The IVP rate for flasks (95.0%) was greater (P = 0.01) than for CO2 and bags (90.8% and 85.0%, respectively), but it did not differ between flasks and CO2 for three boars (P > 0.05). In experiment 2, co-incubation was done as described for glass flasks in experiment 1. The IVP rate and PSP were compared for cryopreserved oocytes: either vitrified in open pulled straws (OPS), or frozen in cryotubes. Mean PSP was 5.4 ± 6.5 and IVP rate was 89.6%. Both PSP and IVP rate were greater (P < 0.0001) for oocytes frozen in cryotubes (7.0 ± 0.3% and 95.8%, respectively) than those frozen in OPS (3.7 ± 0.3% and 83.4%, respectively), with no differences found for three boars (P > 0.05). In summary, successful IVP of swine oocytes by homologous spermatozoa can be achieved using gametes incubated in glass flasks and oocytes frozen in cryotubes.  相似文献

Lack of submerged vegetation was studied in a small, shallow, alkaline, clear-water lake with high nitrate concentration (mean 9 mg NO3–N L−1) and profuse filamentous green algae (FGA) (mainly Spirogyra sp.). A laboratory microcosm and two lake enclosure experiments were carried out using Elodea nuttallii (Planchon) St John. E. nuttallii grew about 1.7 times as well in sediment from its place of origin compared with sediment from the lake. Differential water quality had no effect, and neither sediment nor water prevented growth in the lake. Nutrient addition reduced plant growth by more than 55% because of shading from epiphytic filamentous green algae (shoot dry weight versus epiphytic algal dry weight, r = −0.491, P < 0.05). Transplanted Elodea plants grew better in enclosures in the lake than in laboratory conditions with lake water and sediment (P < 0.001, t-test). Rare Elodea individuals in the lake indicate the presence of plant propagules in the lake sediment, but excessive growth of filamentous green algae (summer mean 3.2 g dry weight m−2) significantly hamperd plant growth (shoot length reduced from 29 ± S.E.M. 1 to 25 ± 1 cm) and bird herbivory significantly reduced survival (from 82 ± 7 to 40 ± 6%) and shoot growth (from 78 ± 6 to 18 ± 5 cm) and thus eliminates establishment of even modest plant beds. Fish disturbance and sediment stability were not important. Restoration of submerged plants may require reduction of nitrate input, control of filamentous green algae and protection from birds.  相似文献

The Pendjari Biosphere Reserve located in the Sudanian zone of Bénin, is a protected area well managed, but mainly aimed at wild animal conservation. This study assessed its effectiveness to conserve habitat species composition and population structure of three endangered African tree species: Afzelia africana Sm., Pterocarpus erinaceus Poir. and Khaya senegalensis (Desv.) A. Juss. We randomly sampled 120 plots in the protected and surrounding unprotected habitats by inventorying plant species. For the three target species, we estimated adult and juvenile densities and recorded size classes. According to floristic composition four habitats groups were recognized in relation to human disturbance, vegetation type, and moisture. These were protected savannas, unprotected savannas, old fallows and gallery forests. The estimated adult densities of A. africana were similar between protected (14 ± 1.2 tree/ha) and unprotected savannas (17 ± 0.9 tree/ha) while for P. erinaceus the adult density was significantly higher in protected (12 ± 3.7 tree/ha) than in unprotected savannas (5 ± 1.9 tree/ha). Estimated adult density of K. senegalensis was also significantly higher in protected gallery forest (40 ± 5.8 tree/ha) than in unprotected one (29 ± 4.8 tree/ha). Juvenile densities of A. africana, K. senegalensis and P. erinaceus were higher in protected habitats than in unprotected ones but the difference was not significant. Skewness coefficient indicated that populations of investigated trees were declining in their protected habitats. However, in the case of A. africana and K. senegalensis populations seemed to be mostly threatened in the protected area. We concluded that although the studied protected area is effective to conserve some habitats species compositions, protection is not sufficient to guarantee future conservation of some threatened tree species.  相似文献

A novel biotechnological process for the production of high-quality flax fibers was developed. In this process, decorticated fibers from green flax were washed with 0.5% soda solution and treated with the pectinolytic strain Geobacillus thermoglucosidasius PB94A. Before drying the fibers, they were treated with the textile softener Adulcinol BUN. If the fibers contained contaminant shives, a bleaching step with hydrogen peroxide was performed before the softener treatment. In experiments where fibers were treated by the new process, and in which the bacterial solutions were reused seven times, the fiber quality was similar in all batches. The resolution of the treated fibers was 2.7 ± 0.4 and the fineness was 11.1 ± 1.1 dtex, while the starting material had a resolution of 7.3 and a fineness of 37 dtex. The new biotechnological treatment eliminates the weather-associated risks of the traditional fiber retting completely and produces consistently high-quality fibers that can be used to produce fine linen yarns.  相似文献

Saccharum spontaneum is a wasteland weed consists of 45.10 ± 0.35% cellulose and 22.75 ± 0.28% of hemicellulose on dry solid (DS) basis. Aqueous ammonia delignified S. spontaneum yielded total reducing sugars, 53.91 ± 0.44 g/L (539.10 ± 0.55 mg/g of substrate) with a hydrolytic efficiency of 77.85 ± 0.45%. The enzymes required for hydrolysis were prepared from culture supernatants of Aspergillus oryzae MTCC 1846. A maximum of 0.85 ± 0.07 IU/mL of filter paperase (FPase), 1.25 ± 0.04 IU/mL of carboxy methyl cellulase (CMCase) and 55.56 ± 0.52 IU/mL of xylanase activity was obtained after 7 days of incubation at 28 ± 0.5 °C using delignified S. spontaneum as carbon source under submerged fermentation conditions. Enzymatic hydrolysate of S. spontaneum was then tested for ethanol production under batch and repeated batch production system using “in-situ” entrapped Saccharomyces cerevisiae VS3 cells in S. spontaneum stalks (1 cm × 1 cm) size. Immobilization was confirmed by the scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Batch fermentation of VS3 free cells and immobilized cells showed ethanol production, 19.45 ± 0.55 g/L (yield, 0.410 ± 0.010 g/g) and 21.66 ± 0.62 g/L (yield, 0.434 ± 0.021 g/g), respectively. Immobilized VS3 cells showed maximum ethanol production (22.85 ± 0.44 g/L, yield, 0.45 ± 0.04 g/g) up to 8th cycle during repeated batch fermentation followed by a gradual reduction in subsequent cycles of fermentation.  相似文献

This study investigated the effect of water immersion on surface electromyography (EMG) signals recorded from the brachioradial muscle of 11 healthy subjects, both in a dry environment and a thermo-neutral forearm bath (36 °C). EMG measurements were registered in a sitting position, using waterproof electrodes under 3 conditions: relaxed muscle, maximum voluntary isometric contraction (MVC, 1 s, grip test) and 70% of the MVC (5 s). In relaxed muscle, mean EMG values were significantly higher under immersion compared to the dry conditions (dry: 5.4 ± 3.6 μV; water: 19.5 ± 14.9 μV; p = 0.014). In maximum voluntary isometric contraction, there was a significant difference, though not in the same direction (dry: 145.9 ± 58.9 μV; water: 73.2 ± 35.0 μV; p = 0.003). Under 70% MVC, there was no difference between wet and dry conditions (dry: 102.4 ± 75.0 μV; water: 100.4 ± 65.3 μV; p = 0.951). Results suggest that dry and underwater conditions influence EMG readings; however, the results are inconsistent. These findings indicate additional influences on resting muscle activity, as well as MVC. Further measurements with other muscle groups and different types of immersion are needed to clarify conflicting observations.  相似文献

Odor perception via the antennal sensilla in most honeybee species is poorly studied. We measured the antennal sensillum potential in response to Apis florea mandibular gland pheromone and showed that it is robust and reliable in forager and guard bees. Mandibular gland pheromone may be involved in signaling alarm or foraging resource depletion. Changes of antennal sensilla placodea potential of A. florea foragers and guards were measured after exposure to three concentrations of the synthetic pheromones, 2-heptanone and (Z)-11-eicosen-1-ol, using a potentiostat connected to an e-corder (ED401) with microelectrodes. The resting sensillum potential of A. florea foragers and guards were ?55.37 ± 3.44 and ?52.85 ± 5.34 mV, respectively. The sensillum potential of bees exposed to 1.0%, 5.0% and 10.0% (Z)-11-eicosen-1-ol were ?23.35 ± 0.98, ?16.78 ± 1.94 and ?24.24 ± 8.20 mV, respectively, in foragers, and ?21.95 ± 3.21, ?21.42 ± 4.73 and ?13.54 ± 4.16 mV, respectively, for guards. Exposure of bees to 1.0%, 5.0% and 10.0% 2-heptanone induced sensillum potentials of ?10.64 ± 2.44, ?44.88 ± 2.41 and ?48.84 ± 4.40 mV, respectively, in foragers and 15.85 ± 9.38, ?25.48 ± 1.43 and ?15.52 ± 6.61 mV, respectively, in guards. The highest sensillum potential was recorded in foragers exposed to 1.0% 2-heptanone. In general, except for the response to 1.0% 2-heptanone, the sensillum potentials of all bees to (Z)-11-eicosen-1-ol were higher than that of 2-heptanone. These results show that A. florea antennal sensilla in foragers and guard bees exhibit a stronger response to (Z)-11-eicosen-1-ol as compared to 2-heptanone. Our results also provide useful comparative data to explore olfactory perception in non-model honey bee species.  相似文献

Margaritaria discoidea (Baill.) G. L. Webster (Euphorbiaceae) is a well-known medicinal plant in Africa used for the treatment of various diseases. So far, no cytotoxic effects of plant extracts on cancer cell lines have been reported.Aim of the studyTo evaluate the cytotoxicity against human ovarian cancer cells of extracts of M. discoidea and characterize the major bioactive compounds.MethodsBoth organic and aqueous extracts of this plant were obtained by maceration. The sulforhodamine B cell proliferation assay was used for evaluation of their cytotoxic activities and the potential bioactive compounds were characterized by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry.ResultsThe organic extract of M. discoidea showed stronger cytotoxicity than the aqueous extract with IC50 values of 14.4 ± 3.0, 14.2 ± 1.2 and 34.7 ± 0.5 µg/ml on OVCAR-8, A2780 and cisplatin-resistant A2780cis ovarian cancer cells, respectively. The organic extract was further subjected to bioassay-guided fractionation by partitioning with n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and n-butanol in water. The ethyl acetate fraction was the most potent on the three ovarian cancer cell lines. A GC–MS analysis of trimethylsilyl derivatives of this fraction indicated the presence of phenolic compounds such as gallic acid and the alkaloid securinine. The IC50 values of these two compounds were determined to be in the range of 3–16 µM, which indicated that they could contribute to the cytotoxic activity of the extract of M. discoidea.ConclusionsThis study has evaluated the cytotoxicity of stem bark extracts of M. discoidea against ovarian cancer cells and provided a basis of further development of this plant for the treatment of ovarian cancer.  相似文献

A putative aldehyde reductase gene from Oceanospirillum sp. MED92 was overexpressed in Escherichia coli. The recombinant protein (OsAR) was characterized as a monomeric NADPH-dependent aldehyde reductase. The kinetic parameters Km and kcat of OsAR were 0.89 ± 0.08 mM and 11.07 ± 0.99 s−1 for benzaldehyde, 0.04 ± 0.01 mM and 6.05 ± 1.56 s−1 for NADPH, respectively. This enzyme exhibited high activity toward a variety of aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes, but no activity toward ketones. As such, it catalyzed the chemoselective reduction of aldehydes in the presence of ketones, as demonstrated by the reduction of 4-acetylbenzaldehyde or the mixture of hexanal and 2-nonanone, showing the application potential of this marine enzyme in such selective reduction of synthetic importance.  相似文献

Apart from acetyl-choline (Ach), adenosine-5′-trisphosphate (ATP) is thought to play a role in neuromuscular function, however little information is available on its cellular physiology. As such, effects of ATP and adenosine on contractility of mice diaphragmatic and skeletal muscles (m. extensor digitorum longa—MEDL) have been investigated in in vitro experiments. Application of carbacholine (CCh) in vitro in different concentrations led to pronounced muscle contractions, varying from 9.15 ± 4.76 to 513.13 ± 15.4 mg and from 44.65 ± 5.01 to 101.46 ± 9.11 mg for diaphragm and MEDL, respectively. Two hundred micromolars of CCh in both muscles caused the contraction with the 65% (diaphragm) to 75% (MEDL) of maximal contraction force—this concentration was thus used in further experiments. It was found that application of ATP (100 μM) increased the force of diaphragmatic contraction caused by CCh (200 μM) from 335.2 ± 51.4 mg (n = 21) in controls to 426.5 ± 47.8 mg (n = 10; P < 0.05), but decreased the contractions of MEDL of CCh from 76.6 ± 6.5 mg (n = 26) in control to 40.2 ± 9.0 mg (n = 8; P < 0.05). Application of adenosine (100 μM) had no effect on CCh-induced contractions of these muscles.Resting membrane potential (MP) measurements using sharp electrodes were done at 10, 20 and 30 min after the application of ATP and adenosine. Diaphragm showed depolarization from 75 ± 0.6 down to 63.2 ± 1.05, 57.2 ± 0.96 and 53.6 ± 1.1 mV after 10, 20 and 30 min of exposition, respectively (20 fibers from 4 muscles each, P < 0.05 in all three cases). Adenosine showed no effect on diaphragmatic MP. Both agents were ineffective in case of MEDL.The effects of ATP in both tissues were abolished by suramin (100 μM), a P2-receptor antagonist, and chelerythrin (50 μM), a specific protein-kinase C (PKC) inhibitor, but were not affected by 1H-[1,2,4]-oxadiazolo-[4,3-α]-quinoxalin-1-one (ODQ, 1 μM), a guanylyl-cyclase inhibitor, or by adenosine-3,5-monophosphothioate (Rp-cAMP, 1 μM), a protein-kinase A (PKA) inhibitor.Besides the action on contractile activity, ATP (100 μM) led to a significant (P < 0.001) depolarization of diaphragm muscle fibers from 74.5 ± 2.3 down to 64 ± 2.1, 58.2 ± 2.2 and 54.3 ± 2.4 mV after 10, 20 and 30 min of incubation, respectively. Incubation of MEDL with the same ATP concentration showed no significant change of MP.Denervation of the muscles for 28 days led to a decrease of CCh-induced contractions of diaphragm down to 171.1 ± 34.5 mg (n = 11, P < 0.05), but increased the contractile force of MEDL up to 723.9 ± 82.3 mg (n = 9, P < 0.01). Application of ATP elevated the contractility of denervated diaphragm caused by CCh up to normal values (311.1 ± 79.7 mg, n = 6, P > 0.05 versus control), but did not significantly affect of contractility of MEDL, which became 848.1 ± 62.7 mg (n = 6).These results show that the effects of ATP on both diaphragmatic and skeletal muscles are mediated through P2Y receptors coupled to chelerytrin-sensitive protein-kinase C.  相似文献

Surface topography and compression elasticity of bovine cardiac muscle fibers in rigor and relaxing state have been studied with atomic force microscopy. Characteristic sarcomere patterns running along the longitudinal axis of the fibers were clearly observed, and Z-lines, M-lines, I-bands, and A-bands can be distinguished through comparing with TEM images and force curves. AFM height images of fibers had shown a sarcomere length of 1.22±0.02 μm (n=5) in rigor with a significant 9% increase in sarcomere length in relaxing state (1.33±0.03 μm, n=5), indicating that overlap moves with the changing physiological conditions. Compression elasticity curves along with sarcomere locations have been taken by AFM compression processing. Coefficient of Z-line, I-band, Overlap, and M-line are 25±2, 8±1, 10±1, and 17±1.5 pN/nm respectively in rigor state, and 18±2.5, 4±0.5, 6±1, and 11±0.5 pN/nm respectively in relaxing state. Young's Modulus in Z-line, I-band, Overlap, and M-line are 115±12, 48±9, 52±8, and 90±12 kPa respectively in rigor, and 98±10, 23±4, 42±4, and 65±7 kPa respectively in relaxing state. The elasticity curves have shown a similar appearance to the section analysis profile of AFM height images of sarcomere and the distance between adjacent largest coefficient and Young's Modulus is equal to the sarcomere length measured from the AFM height images using section analysis, indicating that mechanic properties of fibers have a similar periodicity to the topography of fibers.  相似文献

The Canindé breed of goats (Capra hircus) is currently endangered. The aims of this study were to characterize the estrus behavior, ovulatory responses and progesterone profiles, and to evaluate the in vitro embryo production (IVP) in this breed. In Experiment 1, ten nulliparous and seven pluriparous females received medroxyprogesterone acetate (MAP)-containing sponges (60 mg) plus 75 μg d-cloprostenol for estrus synchronization and their reproductive parameters were evaluated. In Experiment 2, oocytes obtained by laparascopy from hormonally stimulated females (n = 15) were used for IVP. There was no difference (p > 0.05) between nulliparous and pluriparous goats in terms of estrus response (40.0% vs. 85.7%), time from progestagen sponge removal to the onset of estrus (62.0 ± 15.5 vs. 50.7 ± 19.2 h; mean ± SEM), duration of estrus (25.0 ± 16.1 vs. 30.0 ± 15.1 h), percentage of ovulating animals (60.0% vs. 85.7%), number of ovulations (1.2 ± 0.4 vs. 1.3 ± 0.8), and diameter of the preovulatory follicle (5.8 ± 0.5 vs. 6.1 ± 0.3 mm). Progesterone concentrations were also similar (p > 0.05) in both groups. During laparoscopic recovery, there were average 12.2 aspirated follicles and 9.1 oocytes per goat, resulting in a high recovery rate (74.3%, 182/245). A total of 78 embryos were produced (51.0%). The mean number of cells in the blastocysts at day 7 of in vitro culture was 170.3 ± 12.5. In conclusion, nulliparous and pluriparous Canindé goats exhibited similar reproductive profiles. It was possible to produce embryos in vitro, allowing the instigation of an embryo bank for preservation of this breed.  相似文献

Three new compounds, butyl homononactate (5), butyl nonactate (6), 8-actyl homononactic acid (7), along with four known compounds homononactic acids (1), nonactic acid (2), homononactyl nonactate (3), homononactyl homononactate (4) were isolated from the marine Streptomyces griseus RSH0407, derived from the plant Salicornia sp., Chenopodiaceae. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic techniques and by comparison with data reported in the literature. The absolute configuration of 3 was first reported by using X-ray copper radiation. Compound 5 exhibited cytotoxic activities against the HCT-8, A2780, BGC-823, BEL-7402, and A549 cell lines in vitro, with IC50 values of 2.87 ± 0.20, 4.90 ± 0.30, 2.19 ± 0.32, 5.07 ± 0.23 and 1.78 ± 0.18 μM, respectively, and compounds 47 showed weak antibacterial activities against four bacterials respectively.  相似文献

Three processed products derived from the green algae C. vulgaris were investigated: (1) spray-dried only (S-DA); (2) spray-dried and electroporated (ES-DA); (3) spray-dried; ultrasonicated treated (US-DA). A nitrogen-balance study was performed. Male growing Wistar rats, housed separately in metabolism cages, were fed the three algal products as the sole protein source at 150 mg N per 100 g of body weight. A control group of rats was fed with casein at a level to give the same protein nitrogen intake. The coefficients of total intestinal tract apparent crude protein digestibility for the different C. vulgaris products were: S-DA = 0.47 ± 0.127% (mean ± S.D.), ES-DA = 0.44 ± 0.075%, US-DA = 0.57 ± 0.137%. Protein efficiency ratio was 1.4 ± 0.3, 1.0 ± 0.5 and 2.1 ± 0.3, respectively. N-balance was 41.86 ± 32.8 mg, 31.3 ± 17.3 mg and 66.7 ± 30.1 mg, respectively. The biological value was 93 ± 9.5%, 93.6 ± 10%, and 101 ± 5%, respectively. The coefficient of total intestinal tract apparent crude protein digestibility and biological value of C. vulgaris was enhanced by ultrasonic treatment and reduced by electroporating, thus ultrasonication may be a helpful technological process in practical processing of green algae in food industry.  相似文献

The carob moth, Ectomyelois ceratoniae (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), is the most important pest of pomegranate orchards (in terms of economic damage) within Iran, and hence, several control procedures, including biological methods of control, have been attempted as a means of controlling populations of this insect. This research was carried out in order to study the biology of Apanteles myeloenta (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), a larval parasitoid of the carob moth. Laboratory studies were conducted to determine larval developmental time, adult longevity, sex ratio, parasite progeny production, and host stage preference of A. myeloenta. At 25 ± 1 °C, immature developmental time (egg to pupa; mean ± SE) was 28.33 ± 0.85 days and 27.46 ± 0.37 days for male and females, respectively. Adult females survived on average 17.5 ± 0.14, 11.7 ± 0.22, 3.4 ± 0.18, and 2.8 ± 0.12 days at 25 C when provided with honey and water, honey only, water only or no food source, respectively. The sex ratio (females to males) of A. myeloenta was 1:3.5 from hosts parasitized in the first instar, 1:3 for second instars and 1:2 for third instar carob moth larvae. Female A. myeloenta typically preferred to parasitize second instar over third or first instar. The oviposition activity peaked on the 7th and 8th days following emergence, when provided with honey, and 10% sucrose solution, respectively.  相似文献

Early responses of the salt marsh succulent Bassia diffusa (Thunb.) Kuntze to combined salinity and submergence were studied in a laboratory experiment aimed at determining the pattern of the response of photosynthetic pigments, membrane stability, oxalic acid and water relations to these stressors. Three key stages in the response were identified. A drop in chlorophyll a + b within 6 h (4.2 ± 0.2 to 2.4 ± 0.3 mg g 1 DM) with a corresponding increase in carotenoid concentration (0.6 ± 0.1 mg g 1 DM) indicated an immediate response to submergence. Oxalic acid concentration was highest on Day 4 (1.7 g g 1 DM) as opposed to control levels, indicative of its role in submergence tolerance, thus Day 4 may be the peak of positive acclimation. The third phase was marked by a sharp increase in electrolyte leakage to 47.5 ± 2.6% on Day 10, from 9.4 ± 1.4% on Day 7, with a corresponding decrease in total dissolved solutes between Days 7 and 10. Results suggest that oxalic acid accumulates under submergence possibly as a stabilising osmolyte. The threshold for tolerance of the species under submergence is 7 days with membrane damage thereafter. B. diffusa would not survive prolonged submergence (> 7 days) but could survive submergence of short duration (< 7 days) through continuous underwater photosynthesis, accumulation of osmolytes such as oxalic acid and carotenoid, and maintenance of relative water content and succulence within control levels. These data show that this upper intertidal salt marsh plant would be sensitive to prolonged inundation as a result of sea level rise or due to estuary mouth closure and a subsequent rise in water level.  相似文献
