Agar properties of two potentially commercial important seaweeds from the Gulf of California were studied. Maximum yield in Gracilaria vermiculophylla (45.7%) occurred during the summer months, coinciding with high water temperatures (31°C) whereas minimum yields (11.6%) were obtained during the coldest months of the year when populations of this species diminish in the bay. Gracilariopsis longissima showed two yield peaks, one in spring and another in fall, before the maximum and minimum seawater temperatures. Gel strength in native agar from the two species was low (<22.5 g cm−2) for most of the year. G. vermiculophylla native agar showed a slight increase in gel strength from June to August, which were the hottest months. Maximum value was 85 g cm−1 in August. Maximum gel strength in G. longissima was observed in October (91 g cm−1), and an unusual native agar with no detectable gel strength was observed in March and April samples. Gelling temperatures range from 27.7 to 36.5°C in G. vermiculophyla and from 26.6 to 34.9°C in G. longissima, meanwhile melting points were 73.9 – 53.5°C and 75.5 – 56.6°C, respectively. Sulfate content was high, 6.3–13.9% in G. vermiculophylla and 1.9–11.9% in G. longissima, and on the other hand 3,6 anhydrogalactose content was low 12.1–26.7% and 9.1–23%, respectively compared to other species. Results obtained showed that mean native agar yields of Gracilaria vermiculophylla and Gracilariopsis longissima from the Gulf of California are comparable to other tropical Gracilaria. However, the low gel strength, high sulfate content and low 3,6 anhydrogalactose content observed in the native agar extracted from these species make this an agaroid, thus alternative methods of extraction should be used to evaluate the possibility of commercial utilization of both species.  相似文献

Land-based abalone aquaculture in South Africa, based on the local species Haliotis midae, started in the early 1990s and has grown rapidly in the last decade, with 13 commercial farms now producing over 850 t per annum. Over 6,000 t per annum of kelp Ecklonia maxima are now harvested for this purpose, and some kelp beds are reaching maximum sustainable limits. Research into seaweed aquaculture as feed (Ulva and some Gracilaria) for abalone started in the late 1990s on the southeast coast (where there are no kelp beds) using abalone waste water. A growing body of evidence suggests that a mixed diet of kelp plus other seaweeds can give growth rates at least as good as compound feed, and can improve abalone quality and reduce parasite loads. A pilot scale Ulva lactuca and abalone integrated recirculation unit using 25% recirculation was designed and built on the south west coast of South Africa using one 12,000-L abalone tank containing 13,200 15 ± 2.5 g abalone, connected to two 3,000-L seaweed tanks containing an initial starting biomass of 10 kg of seaweed, replicated 3 times. In an 18-month period, there were no significant differences in abalone health or growth rates, sediment build up and composition, mobile macro fauna densities and species between the recirculation or the flow-through units. Transfer of oxygen generated by the seaweeds to the abalone tanks was poor, resulting in the recirculated abalone tanks having lower (33%) dissolved oxygen concentrations than a comparable flow-through abalone unit. Seaweed nutrient content and specific growth rates in the units were comparable to seaweeds cultivated in fertilized effluent (SGR = 3.2 ± 3.4%.day−1; Yield = 0.2 ± 0.19 kg.m2.day−1). Indications were that at this low recirculation ratio the seaweeds in the units were nutrient limited and that there were no negative effects to the abalone being cultivated in such a recirculation unit at this recirculation ratio.  相似文献

Three estuarine macroalgae (Ulva rotundata,Enteromorpha intestinalis, Gracilariagracilis) of economic potential were cultivated in the laboratory toassess their biofiltering capacities for ammonium in waste effluents from a seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax) cultivation tank. The studywasdeveloped to investigate the functioning of N nutrition of the three species.Atlow water flow (< 2 volumes d–1) the three species strippedefficiently the ammonium dissolved in the waste water from the fish tank, withaminimum biofiltering efficiency estimate of 61% in unstarved cultures ofG. gracilis at a water flow of 2 volumesd–1. Maximum velocity for ammonium uptake (89.0 molNH4 + g–1 dry wth–1) was found in U. rotundata, whereas G. gracilis showed the highest affinity for thisnutrient. The net ammonium uptake rate was significantly affected by the waterflow, being greatest at the highest flow assayed (2 volumesd–1). Variations of tissue N and C:N ratios during aflow-through experiment suggested that N was not limiting macroalgal growth. However, when ammonium was supplied at a flow rate of 0.5 volumesd–1, specially in a three-stage design, the marked reductionintissue N and the biomass C:N:P ratios suggested a more general nutrientdeficiency. A significant correlation was found between growth rates and the Nbiomass gained in the cultures. The three-stage design under low water flow(0.5volumes d–1) showed that the highest ammonium uptake rates (upto 80.9 mol NH4 + g–1 dry wtd–1 in U. rotundata) were found inthe first stage, with decreasing rates in the following ones. As a result, lowincrements or even losses of total N biomass in these stages were found, suggesting that ammonium was excreted from the algae. We conclude that thesespecies present a potential ability to biofilter the ammonium dissolved inwastewater from a D. labrax cultivation tank, suggesting thatscaling up the biofiltration designs, future practises using these macroalgaemay be implemented in the local fish farms, resulting in both environmental andeconomical advantages.  相似文献

The growth, biofiltering efficiency and uptake rates of Ulva clathrata were studied in a series of outdoor tanks, receiving waste water directly from a shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) aquaculture pond, under constant aeration and two different water regimes: (1) continuous flow, with 1 volume exchange a day (VE day-1) and (2) static regime, with 1 VE after 4 days. Water temperature, salinity, pH, dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), phosphate (PO4), chlorophyll-a (chl-a), total suspended solids (TSS), macroalgal biomass (fresh weight) and tissue nutrient assimilation were monitored over 12 days. Ulva clathrata was highly efficient in removing the main inorganic nutrients from effluent water, stripping 70–82% of the total ammonium nitrogen (TAN) and 50% PO4 within 15 h. Reductions in control tanks were much lower (Tukey HSD, P < 0.05). After 3 days, the mean uptake rates by the seaweed biomass under continuous flow were 3.09 mg DIN g DW day−1 (383 mg DIN m−2 day−1) and 0.13 mg PO4 g DW day−1 (99 mg PO4 m−2 day−1), being significantly higher than in the static regime (Tukey HSD, P < 0.05). The chl-a decreased in seaweed tanks, suggesting that U. clathrata inhibited phytoplankton growth. Correlations between the cumulative values of DIN removed from the water and total nitrogen assimilated into the seaweed biomass (r = 0.7 and 0.8, P < 0.05), suggest that nutrient removal by U. clathrata dominated over other processes such as phytoplankton and bacterial assimilation, ammonia volatilization and nutrient precipitation.  相似文献

The tissue culture of phycocolloid yielding seaweeds included preparation of axenic explants, callus induction, subculture of excised callus and regeneration of plantlets from pigmented callus in the laboratory. Treatment of algal material with 0.1–0.5% detergent for 10 min and 1–2% betadine for 1–5 min and 3–5% antibiotic treatment for 48–72 h successively enabled viable axenic explants to be obtained as high as 60% for Gracilaria corticata, Sargassum tenerrimum and Turbinaria conoides and 10% for Hypnea musciformis. Callus induction was more conspicuous in T. conoides than in the other three species investigated. Of the irradiances investigated, 30 μmol photons m−2 s−1 produced calluses in as many as 40% explants in G. corticata and T. conoides and 10% in H. musciformis and S. tenerrimum. The explants cultured at 5 and 70 μmol photons m−2 s−1 did not produce any callus in all the species studied except for H. musciformis in which 10% explants developed callus at 5 μmol photons m−2 s−1. Most of the species investigated showed uniseriate filamentous Type of growths and buds from cut ends and from all over the surface of explants. Nevertheless, T. conoides had three Types of callus developments, namely (1) uniseriate filamentous Type of outgrowths from the centre of the cut end of explant, (2) bubbly Type of callus and (3) club-shaped callus clumps. The subculture of T. conoides callus embedded in 0.4% agar produced two Types of filamentous growth, namely filiform (with elongated cells) and moniliform filaments (with round cells) in the 2 months period after inoculation. Further, friable callus with loose cells was also found associated with excised callus. The moniliform filaments showed prolific growth of micro-colonies resembling to somatic embryo-like growth which, in liquid cultures, differentiated and developed into propagules with deformed shoots and distinct rhizoids. The shoots of these propagules remained stunted with abnormal leaf stalks without forming triangular shaped leaves as the parental plant and rhizoids had prolific growth in the laboratory cultures. The excised callus of G. corticata continued to grow when transferred to liquid cultures and showed differentiation of new shoots within 10 days. The shoots grew to a maximum length of 5–6 cm in the 2 months period in aerated cultures in the laboratory. Dedicated to the memory of Late Dr. Rangarajan.  相似文献

The relationship between O2-based gross photosynthesis (GP) and in vivo chlorophyll fluorescence of Photosystem II-based electron transport rate (ETR) as well as the relationship between effective quantum yield of fluorescence (ΦPSII) and quantum yield of oxygen evolution (ΦO_2) were examined in the green algae Ulva rotundata and Ulva olivascens and the red alga Porphyra leucosticta collected from the field and incubated for 3 days at 100 μmol m−2 s−1 in nutrient enriched seawater. Maximal GP was twice as high in Ulva species than that measured in P. leucosticta. In all species ETR was saturated at much higher irradiance than GP. The initial slope of ETR versus absorbed irradiance was higher than that of GP versus absorbed irradiance. Only under absorbed irradiances below saturation or at values of GP <2 μmol O2 m−2 s−1 a linear relationship was observed. In the linear phase, calculated O2 evolved /ETR molar ratios were closed to the theoretical value of 0.25 in Ulva species. In P. leucosticta, the estimated GP was associated to the estimated ETR only at high irradiances. ETR was determined under white light, red light emitting by diodes and solar radiation. In Ulva species the maximal ETR was reached under red light and solar radiation whereas in P. leucosticta the maximal ETR was reached under white light and minimal under red light. These results are in agreement with the known action spectra for photosynthesis in these species. In the case of P. leucosticta, GP and ETR were additionally determined under saturating irradiance in algae pre-incubated for one week under white light at different irradiances and at white light (100 μmol m−2 s−1) enriched with far-red light. GP and growth rate increased at a growth irradiance of 500 μmol m−2 s−1 becoming photoinhibited at higher irradiances, while ETR increased when algae were exposed to the highest growth irradiance applied (2000 μmol m−2 s−1). The calculated O2 evolved /ETR molar ratios were close to the theoretical value of 0.25 when algae were pre-incubated under 500–1000 μmol m−2 s−1. The enrichment by FR light provoked a decrease in both GP and ETR and an increase of nonphotochemical quenching although the irradiance of PAR was maintained at a constant level. In addition to C assimilation, other electron sinks, such as nitrogen assimilation, affected the GP–ETR relationship. The slopes of GP versus ETR or ΦPSII versus ΦO_2 were lower in the algae with the highest N assimilation capacity, estimated as nitrate reductase activity and internal nitrogen contents, i.e., Ulva rotundata and Porphyra leucosticta, than that observed in U. olivascens. The possible mechanisms to explain this discrepancy between GP and ETR are discussed. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The effect of light intensity (50–300 μmol photons m−2 s−1) and temperature (15–50°C) on chlorophyll a, carotenoid and phycobiliprotein content in Arthronema africanum biomass was studied. Maximum growth rate was measured at 300 μmol photons m−2 s−1 and 36°C after 96 h of cultivation. The chlorophyll a content increased along with the increase in light intensity and temperature and reached 2.4% of dry weight at 150 μmol photons m−2 s−1 and 36°C, but it decreased at higher temperatures. The level of carotenoids did not change significantly under temperature changes at illumination of 50 and 100 μmol photons m−2 s−1. Carotenoids were about 1% of the dry weight at higher light intensities: 150 and 300 μmol photons m−2 s−1. Arthronema africanum contained C-phycocyanin and allophycocyanin but no phycoerythrin. The total phycobiliprotein content was extremely high, more than 30% of the dry algal biomass, thus the cyanobacterium could be deemed an alternative producer of C-phycocyanin. A highest total of phycobiliproteins was reached at light intensity of 150 μmol photons m−2 s−1 and temperature of 36°C, C-phycocyanin and allophycocyanin amounting, respectively, to 23% and 12% of the dry algal biomass. Extremely low (<15°C) and high temperatures (>47°C) decreased phycobiliprotein content regardless of light intensity.  相似文献

The potential of three estuarine macroalgae (Ulvarotundata, Enteromorpa intestinalis andGracilaria gracilis) as biofilters for phosphate ineffluents of a sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) cultivationtank was studied. These seaweeds thrive in Cádiz Bay and were alsoselected because of their economic potential, so that environmental andeconomicadvantages may be achieved by future integrated aquaculture practices in thelocal fish farms. The study was designed to investigate the functioning of Pnutrition of the selected species. Maximum velocity of phosphate uptake (2.86mol PO4 g–1 dry wth–1) was found in U. rotundata. This species also showed the highest affinity for this nutrient. At low flowrates (< 2 volumes d–1), the three species efficientlyfiltered the phosphate dissolved in the waste water, with a minimum efficiencyof 60.7% in U. rotundata. Net phosphate uptake rate wassignificantly affected by the water flow, being greatest at the highest rateassayed (2 volumes d–1). The marked decrease in tissue P shownby the three species during a flow-through experiment suggested that growth wasP limited. However, due to the increase in biomass, total P biomass increasedinthe cultures. A significant correlation was found between growth rates and thenet P biomass gained in the cultures. A three-stage design under low water flow(0.5 volumes d–1) showed that the highest growth rates (up to0.14 d–1) and integrated phosphate uptake rates(up to 5.8 mol PO4 3– g–1dry wt d–1) were found in E.intestinalis in the first stage, with decreasing rates in thefollowing ones. As a result, phosphate become limiting and low increments oreven losses of total P biomass in these stages were found suggesting thatphosphate was excreted from the algae. The results show the potential abilityofthe three species to reduce substantially, at low water flow, the phosphateconcentration in waste waters from a D. labrax cultivationtank, and thus the quality of effluents from intensive aquaculture practices.  相似文献

An N2 strip gas was used in a packed bed sulfate-reducing bioreactor to recover the dissolved sulfide product and improve sulfate conversion. The highest volumetric productivity obtained was 261 mol H2S m−3 d−1. Lowering the initial pH of the medium from 7 to 6 increased the H2S content of the strip gas from 3.6 to 5.8 mol%. The ratio of strip gas to liquid flow rates (G/L) was found be to a suitable basis for scaling the process. Calculations indicated that modest G/L values (<102) were required to recover the residual dissolved sulfide in a downstream stripping column.  相似文献

Cyanobacteria blooms (especially Microcystis spp.) are thought to alter dominance of large-sized daphnids into small-sized metazoan zooplankton. However, several field investigations show different phenomena. Laboratory experiments were conducted based on the hypothesis that different Microcystis spp. concentrations would influence competitive outcomes using two algal combinations of different concentrations and four species of cladocerans. In the algal combination of 50 mg l−1 colonial Microcystis spp. + 1 mg l−1 Scenedesmus obliquus (fresh weight), Daphnia carinata was absent during the experiment in competition with other cladocerans. Decreasing colonial Microcystis spp. concentration (10 mg l−1) resulted in a shift from dominance by small-sized cladocerans to dominance by D. carinata. No significant effects of different concentrations of colonial Microcystis spp. on competitive outcomes were shown among three small-sized cladocerans. These results support the idea that cyanobacteria concentration affects the dominance status of large-bodied daphnid.  相似文献

The effects of 16 different combinations of nutrient load and agitation on yield, nutrient uptake and proximate chemical composition of the seaweed Ulva lactuca cultured in tanks were evaluated. Intensive fishpond outflow passed through seaweed tanks at four nutrient loading levels and four water agitation combinations of water exchange, bottom aeration and frequently changing water levels (an accelerated tide regime). Specific results from these outdoor experiments were examined further under controlled conditions in laboratory experiments. Agitation treatments affected the performance of U. lactuca only under TAN () load levels below 4 g N m−2 day−1; biofiltration of TAN was the parameter most affected. Biomass yields at each of the four nutrient loading levels were not significantly different between the agitation treatments. Protein content increased significantly with increasing nutrient loading. The agitation treatments had a slight effect on seaweed protein content only at the lowest nutrient loading levels. There were no significant differences in dissolved oxygen concentration, pH, and temperature among the agitation treatments at all nutrient loading levels. Under laboratory conditions, growth rates, protein content, and photosynthetic and biomass yield of the seaweed were affected by water velocity under low nutrient concentrations. It is concluded that the effect of air agitation under the conditions of these experiments was not directly related to photosynthesis, excess dissolved oxygen, or carbon limitation, but to the diffusion of macro nutrients from the water to the seaweed. Therefore, once nutrient concentrations are high enough (above about 4 μM of TAN with the other nutrients in their corresponding proportions), aeration per se is not essential for effective growth and biofiltration by seaweeds.  相似文献

Outdoor tank cultivation of several Porphyra (nori) species was carried out from late November 2002 through early May 2003 using 40 L (with a surface of 0.25 m2), 600 L (1 m2), and 24,000 L (30 m2) fiberglass or PVC tanks provided with continuous aeration and seawater flow. Sexual and asexual spores produced from cultured conchocelis and frozen thalli in the laboratory, respectively, were subsequently grown to produce young fronds (ca. 5-10 cm) in an average time of 8 weeks. Growth in outdoor tanks and ponds was possible for a period of up to 20 weeks (i.e. growth season), with yields above 100 g FW m−2d−1occurring during 12-14 weeks from late December through late March, when seawater temperatures were below 20 C. These yields correlated with the species and depended on the type of tanks in which the algae were cultivated, with the highest yields observed for Porphyra sp. and Porphyra yezoensis when fertilized twice a week with NH4 Cl and NaH2 PO4in 40 L tanks. Calculations of productivity for an entire growth season based on ≥ 100 g FW m−2d−1yields exceed the average productivities using seeded nets in open sea, for all Porphyra species tested (0.96-4.06 kg DW m−2 season−1vs. 0.7-1.0 kg DW m−2of net season−1). Therefore, tank cultivation of Porphyra can offer an additional source of nori biomass to international markets. Land-based tank cultivation also offers an environmentally friendly practice that allows for the manipulation of growth conditions to enrich seaweeds with specific, valuable chemicals such as protein and minerals.  相似文献

Phellinus robustus produced both laccase (700–4,000 U l−1) and manganese peroxidase (MnP) (1,000–11,300 U l−1) in fermentation of nine food wastes, whereas Ganoderma adspersum produced only laccase (600–34,000 U l−1). Glucose provided high laccase and MnP activity of P. robustus but repressed enzyme production by G. adspersum. Ammonium sulphate and ammonium tartrate increased the P. robustus laccase yield (3-fold), whereas the accumulation of MnP was not enhanced by additional nitrogen.  相似文献

Cyclodextrin glycosyltransferase (CGTase; E.C. 2.4.1.19) is an industrially important enzyme, which is used to produce cyclodextrins (CDs). In this research, we report the use of experimental factorial design to find the best conditions of pH and temperature for CGTase production by Bacillus circulans var. alkalophilus. The optimized calculated values for the tested variables were, respectively, pH 9.7 and temperature 36oC, with a CGTase activity of 615 U mL−1. The CGTase production was further studied with the optimized process parameters on submerged cultivations (SC) and solid-state cultivations (SSC) using soybean industrial fibrous residue (SIFR). The maximum CGTase activity obtained on SC was 1,155 U mL−1 under aerobic conditions. Cell growth and CGTase synthesis in SSC using SIFR as substrate was excellent, with CGTase activity of 32,776 U g(SIFR) −1. These results strongly support the use of SIFR for CGTase production since it is a non-expensive residue.  相似文献

To investigate the ecological effect of macroalgae on de-eutrophication and depuration of mariculture seawater, the variation of dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) and phosphate (DIP), the amount of Vibrio anguillarum, and total heterotrophic bacteria in Ulva clathrata culture, as well as on the algal surface, were investigated by artificially adding nutrients and V. anguillarum strain 65 from February to April 2006. The results indicated that U. clathrata not only had strong DIN and DIP removal capacities, but also showed a significant inhibitory effect on V. anguillarum, although not reducing the total heterotrophic bacteria. Vibrio anguillarum 65 dropped from 5∼8 × 107 cfu mL−1 to 10 cfu mL−1 (clone-forming units per mL) in 10 g L−1 of fresh U. clathrata culture within 2 days; i.e., almost all of the Vibrios were efficiently eradicated from the algal culture system. Our results also showed that the inhibitory effect of U. clathrata on V. anguillarum strain 65 was both DIN- and DIP-dependent. Addition of DIN and DIP could enhance the inhibitory effects of the algae on the Vibrio, but did not reduce the total heterotrophic bacteria. Further studies showed that the culture suspension in which U. clathrata was pre-cultured for 24 h also had an inhibitory effect on V. anguillarum strain 65. Some unknown chemical substances, either released from U. clathrata or produced by the alga associated microorganisms, inhibited the proliferation of V. anguillarum 65.  相似文献

We evaluated the combined effects of algal (Chlorella vulgaris) food levels (low, 0.5 × 106 (or 2.9 μg C ml−1); and high, 1 × 106 cells ml−1 (or 5.8 μg C ml−1)) and zinc concentrations (0, 0.125, and 0.250 mg l−1 of ZnCl2) on the competition between two common planktonic rotifers Anuraeopsis fissa and Brachionus rubens using their population growth. Median lethal concentration data (LC50) (mean ± 95% confidence intervals) showed that B. rubens was more resistant to zinc (0.554 ± 0.08 mg l−1) than A. fissa (0.315 ± 0.07 mg l−1). A. fissa when grown alone or with Zn was always numerically more abundant than B. rubens. When grown in the absence of zinc, under low- and high-food levels, the peak abundances of A. fissa varied from 251 ± 24 to 661 ± 77 ind. ml−1, respectively, and the corresponding maxima for B. rubens were 52 ± 3 and 102 ± 18 ind. ml−1. At a given food level, competition for food reduced the peak abundances of both rotifers considerably. Increase in Zn concentration also lowered the rotifer abundances. The impact of zinc on competition between the two-rotifer species was evident at low-food level, mainly for A. fissa. At zinc concentrations of 0 and 0.125 mg l−1, the populations of both rotifers continued to grow for about 10 days, but thereafter B. rubens began to decline. Role of zinc on the competitive outcome of the two species is discussed in relation to the changing algal densities in natural water bodies.  相似文献

The role of herbivorous fishes in maintaining low macroalgal cover was evaluated on coral reefs on several reef sites from Guadeloupe, either protected or not. Grazing by herbivorous fishes was assessed on different algal facies using fish-bite counts. Algal consumption by fish was estimated as well as algal production. Bite counts revealed that herbivorous fishes feed preferentially on algal turf and avoid brown macroalgae. The algal consumption varied between 0.4 and 2.8 g m−2 days−1 and was higher inside marine protected areas than outside. Comparison with algal production revealed that herbivorous fishes did not succeed in regulating algal growth. The insufficient number of grazers may lead to the dominance of stable assemblages of macroalgae on coral reefs, preventing the recovery of reef into previous coral-dominated ecosystems.  相似文献

Fluxes of dissolved oxygen and ammonium across the water sediment interface were measured in a control and in an experimental area farmed with the clam Tapes philippinarum. Young clams were seeded in March 2003 at mean (~500 ind m−2) and high (~1500 ind m−2) densities in a sandy area (2100 m2) of the Sacca di Goro Lagoon, Italy. Approximately every two months, until October 2003, intact sediment cores were collected and incubated in the light and in the dark and surface sediments (0–2 cm) were analysed for organic matter and nitrogen content. Clams farming induced pronounced changes in sediment characteristics and metabolism. Oxygen consumption and ammonium production at the high density area were, on average, 3 to 4 and 1.9 to 4.9 folds higher than those measured in the control field respectively; rates were positively correlated with clams biomass. Experimental fields resulted “Net and Total Heterotrophyc” in 3 out of 4 sampling dates and clams were the major factor shifting the benthic system towards this status. In only one occasion the appearance of the macroalgae Ulva spp. pushed the system rapidly towards hyperautotrophic conditions. Our results indicated that clams have the potential to drive benthic metabolism in farmed areas and to sustain macroalgal growth through regeneration of a limiting nutrient for seawater as inorganic N.  相似文献

A study was conducted in Xiangshan Bay, Ningbo, China, using red alga Gracilaria lichenoides to alleviate nutrient pollution in shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) and fish (Epinephelus awoara) culture ponds. Our results showed that G. lichenoides was efficient at absorbing inorganic nitrogen (IN) and inorganic phosphate (IP), and maintained a more stable dissolved oxygen (DO) level. A total of 506.5 kg (1,013 kg ha−1) of shrimp and 210.5 kg (421 kg ha−1) of fish were harvested from the shrimp/algae (SA) and fish/algae (FA) ponds, respectively. Only 53.5 kg shrimp were harvested from the shrimp pond without Gracilaria (S) due to anoxic asphyxia, and 163 kg fish were harvested from the fish culture pond without Gracilaria (F). Compared with using microalgae, bioremediation by macroalgae has no risk of harmful algal blooms (HABs), and it is easy to control seaweed biomass. During the experiment, there was a better environmental condition (lower chemical oxygen demand, IN, IP and chlorophyll a concentrations) in the ponds with Gracilaria. Furthermore, Gracilaria spp. can be used as food for abalone or other aquacultured animals and thus enhance economic return.  相似文献

The effect of agitation and aeration on the growth and antibiotic production by Xenorhabdus nematophila YL001 grown in batch cultures were investigated. Efficiency of aeration and agitation was evaluated through the oxygen mass transfer coefficient (K L a). With increase in K L a, the biomass and antibiotic activity increased. Activity units of antibiotic and dry cell weight were increased to 232 U ml−1 and 19.58 g l−1, respectively, productivity in cell and antibiotic was up more than 30% when K L a increased from 115.9 h−1 to 185.7 h−1. During the exponential growth phase, DO concentration was zero, the oxygen supply was not sufficient. So, based on process analysis, a three-stage oxygen supply control strategy was used to improved the DO concentration above 30% by controlling the agitation speed and aeration rate. The dry cell weight and activity units of antibiotic were further increased to 24.22 g l−1 and 249 U ml−1, and were improved by 24.0% and 7.0%, compared with fermentation at a constant agitation speed and a constant aeration rate (300 rev min−1, 2.5 l min−1).  相似文献
