Abstract:
  • 1.1. The properties of skeletal muscle sarcolemmal adenylate cyclase were investigated using either Mg2+ or Mn2+ as the cation cofactor.
  • 2.2. Interesting differences in the catalytic properties of the cyclase were observed depending on whether Mg2− or Mn2+ served as metal cofactor.
  • 3.3. Under optimal conditions, the cyclase activities were 4 to 6-fold greater with Mg2+ compared to those with Mn2+.
  • 4.4. Hormone- and guanyl nucleotide- sensitivity of the cyclase was also affected differentially by these cations. Implications of these findings are discussed.
