Abstract: | Methionine, added to a casein diet which is complete for normal rats, markedly increases the survival time of hyperthyroid rats. That the improved survival is due to the labile methyl group of methionine is supported by the fact that betaine, another labile methyl-containing compound, also increases the survival time of hyperthyroid rats. |
