Abstract: | Six estuarine fish species common to Chesapeake Bay in Maryland and Virginia, USA were exposed to electromagnetic pulses (EMP) of 100-kv/m airfield strength at a risetime of ca. 10 nanoseconds per pulse. EMP was derived from a 2-stage Marx generator. Results infer that acute mortality will not occur in fishes swimming near the surface at distances>50 m from a U.S. Navy electromagnetic pulse radiation environmental simulator for ships (EMPRESS II) being field tested off the USA coastline. |
