Abstract: | studies have revealed that 2-OH-estradiol can be produced in the brain and that it can compete with estradiol for hypothalamic cytosol binding sites. In the present study ovariectomized female rats received 2-OH-estradiol via sc or iv injections and/or via direct intracerebral implantation either alone or in combination with vehicles, estradiol or testosterone. Behavioral tests after sc progesterone priming indicated that 2-OH-estradiol has relatively weak estrogenic, and no apparent anti-estrogenic or antiaromatization activity in the induction of sexual receptivity. |
