Abstract: | This paper describes a new, accurate method for determination of glucose in soil enzyme assays. The low limit of detection
of glucose by the peroxidase-glucose oxidase (PGO) system is 0.004 mg glucose · g soil−1. Comparisons of PGO with the anthrone and phenol-sulfuric acid methods revealed no differences in the detection of glucose
standard solutions. By eliminating the use of large volumes of H2SO4, the PGO system reduces laboratory hazards.
