Abstract: | Theoreticians have suggested that genetic changes in long-lived perennial species may show a lag in response to selective pressures. If this suggestion is correct, then these populations should contain subpopulations adapted to dissimilar environments. The present study, employing data on age distributions and gel electrophoresis, provides some evidence for the existence of these genetically differentiated subpopulations among seedlings of Acer saccharum. |
