Abstract: | The two adult beta-globin genes (beta 1s2major and beta 2sminor) of the Hbbs2 haplotype are differentially expressed during development. Centrifugal elutriation was used to separate the two populations of erythrocytes present in developing fetuses. Hemoglobin analysis showed that the larger, nucleated erythrocytes (yolk sac-derived) have relatively larger amounts of beta-sminor hemoglobin than do smaller, nonnucleated cells (fetal liver-, spleen-, and bone marrow-derived) at the same stage of development. |
