Abstract:The synthesis and characterisation of Pt{4′-(Np1)-trpy}(Ctriple bond; length of mdashCPh)]SbF6 (1) and Pt{4′-(Np1)-trpy}{Ctriple bond; length of mdashC(CH2)2CH3}]SbF6 (2) 4′-(Np1)-trpy = 4′-(1-naphthyl)-2,2:6′,2′-terpyridine] are described. Complexes 1 and 2 exhibit unimolecular 3MLCT (MLCT = metal-to-ligand charge transfer) emission in acetonitrile and in a low concentration 77 K glass solution in butyronitrile. The high concentration glass emission as well as the emission in the solid state is from a 3MMLCT (MMLCT, metal-metal-to-ligand charge transfer) excited state, reflecting the presence of View the MathML source interactions in these media.
