| Abstract: | A candidate for the male sex-determining gene has recently been isolated. This sex-determining gene (SRY) has been found to be mutated in some individuals with failed testis development, and, in mouse transgenesis, the SRY murine homologue (Sry) causes female-to-male sex reversal. The cloning of SRY should facilitate the characterisation of other genes in the testis-determining pathway and provide information on the mechanism of mammalian developmental decisions. |
