云南开远小龙潭动物群的性质及时代的进一步探讨

本文在前人工作的基础上,结合新材料,对小龙潭动物群作了新的补充与论述.小龙潭动物群在组合面貌上与西瓦立克的 Chinji, Nagri 层动物群相近,动物群的时代不早于 Chinji 层而早于云南禄丰石灰坝动物群,为晚中新世.

MIOCENE MAMMALIAN FAUNA OF XIAOLONGTAN, KAIYUAN, YUNNAN PROVINCE

Miocene mammalian fossil locality at Xiaolongtan, Kaiyuan County, Yunnan Province was revisited in 1984 and 1985. The materials from the lignite beds at the locality was re-studied together with new evidences, and was found to represent a fauna of Late Miocene age. Taxa presently recognized include: Sivapithecus sp., Mustelidae indet., Tapirus cf. yunnanensis, Propotamochoerus parvulus, Dicoryphochoerus sp., Listriodon sp., Cervidae indet., Tetralophodon xiaolongtanensis, Gomphotherium of. macrognathus, Zygolophodon chinjiensis, Castoridae gen. et sp. indet. In view of the fossil mammal assemblage, this fauna, commonly referred to as Xiaolongtan Fauna, is quite different from that found in North China (e.g. Tung Gur, Koujiacun, Babe, Yusbe (Zone I), etc.) with few elements in common (Tetralophodon, Listriodon). On the other hand, the fauna is essentially similar to that from the lignite beds at Shihuiba, Lufeng County, Yunnan Province. They share the followings in common: Sivapithecus, Propotamochoerus, Tapirus, Gomphotherium, Zygolophodon. In addition, Xiaolongtan Fauna is also quite similar to those from Chinji and Nagri beds of Siwaliks of India and Pakistan. The taxa in common include Sivapithecus, Propotamochoerus, Dicoryphochoerus, Listriodon (?), Tetralophodon, Gomphotheriura, Zygolophodon etc., plus some holdovers such as Zygolophodon, Listriodon etc. from the Middle Miocene or earlier. In light of new fossil evidences, Xialongtan Fauna is probably contemporaneous with that of Chinji and Nagri of Siwaliks; and its age should, therefore, be Late Late Miocene, or equivalent to Vellesian of Europs.
