Scanning electron microscopy of Entomophthora virulenta and Conidiobolus coronatus (Entomophthorales: Entomophthoraceae)

The scanning electron microscope was used to delineate the morphological differences between Entomophthora virulenta and Conidiobolus coronatus isolated from field-infected cabbage and seedcorn maggots, Hylemya brassicae and H. platura. This SEM study supports the removal of C. coronatus from the genus Entomophthora on the basis of microconidial development and resting spores with villose appendages.
