Abstract: | Streptomycetes is one of the most important genera, representing up to 70% population among all soil actinomycetes. We investigated the
genotypic diversity of culturable Streptomycetes, freshly isolated from thirty-eight different soil samples (wheat cropping system) from Indo-Gangetic Plains of India. A
total of 238 morphologically distinct actinomycetes colonies were isolated and clustered together by restriction fragment
length polymorphism analysis of 16S rRNA gene. Identification of representative isolates from each cluster was carried out
by micro/macroscopic analysis as well as biochemical characterization, and further confirmed by 16S rRNA sequencing (sequences
were submitted in public database, NCBI). |
