Abstract: | A guinea pig hypogastric nerve — vas deferens preparation was perfused with 14C dihydroxyphenylalanine (dopa) and the perfusates collected and assayed for newly formed dihydroxyphenylethylamine (dopamine) and noradrenaline. On electrical stimulation of the nerve an increased synthesis and release of dopamine and noradrenaline was observed suggesting that some step in the pathway subsequent to tyrosine hydroxylase, may be increased by nerve stimulation. This effect was not observed when the muscle was stimulated transmurally. |
