Abstract: | Spirochaetes indigenous to the conventional rat caecum were cultivated on agar medium using selective isolation techniques. The 27 axenic isolates represented four morphological types of spirochaetes differing in cell size, cell coiling pattern and number of protoplasmic flagella. |
