Abstract: | The histochemical localization of ascorbic acid and RNA was studied during developmental stages ofDatura anthers. The concentration of ascorbic acid and RNA was high in primary parietal and primary sporogenous layers, sporogenous
cells and pollen grains. The connective of young anther showed remarkably high concentration of ascorbic acid. The high peaks
of ascorbic acid and RNA concentration correlated with the growth phases of anther. The connective and anther wall layers
act as reservoirs of energy needed for developing sporogenous cells. |
