Abstract: | Summary The wall-less marine alga,Dunaliella tertiolecta, was immobilized and grown within Ca-alginate gel beads. These beads cultured in bubbling columns remained stable even in hypersaline medium, up to 4 M NaCl. In repeated batchwise cultures, the immobilized cells were shown to produce significant amounts of glycerol in the culture medium. |
