| Abstract: | A procedure using a fungal pectinase was developed to rapidlyrelease mesophyll cells from tobacco leaves. Fifty to ninetyper cent of the released cells were morphologically intact andwere converted into spherical protoplasts by cellulase treatment.Cells isolated from tobacco mosaic virus-inoculated leaves supportedmultiplication of the virus during subsequent incubation.
