Development of ‘strategies’ utilized by albino rats in operant conditioning

A study concerning an operant conditioning of albino rats over a period of 6 months showed that different subjects progressively adopted a highly stable behaviour which could be called a ‘strategy’. Each one of these ‘strategies’ enables the subject to obtain, in a defined manner, a certain number of reinforcements within a given period; despite their different efficiencies, each one of these ‘strategies’ can be considered as ‘correct’. We have shown here that the duration of the conditioning session and the mean yield per stimulus depend on the choice of a given ‘strategy’.
