Abstract:Tendons from the tarsus metatarsus regions of chick embryos, ages 10, 14, 15, and 16 days, were examined by optical polarization, optical transmission, and electron transmission microscopy to study the development of crimps which are commonly observed in adult tendons, ligaments, and other collagenous tissues which support tension. It is shown that the development of crimp structure is accompanied by morphological changes in fibroblasts.
