Abstract: | Short term experiments investigated the effects of potassiumsupply on radiocaesium influx/efflux and the radiocaesium compartmentationin intact spring wheat roots. Short term (2472 h) influxanalysis showed that net influxes of radiocaesium to both rootand xylem were reduced approximately ten-times by increasingexternal potassium concentration from 50 µM to 200 µM.Efflux analysis distinguished three components for radiocaesium(namely cell wall+free space, cytoplasm and vacuole) and showedthat the rates of Cs+efflux at an external potassium concentrationof 100 µM (19.16 and 1.70 Bq g-1min-1for |
