Abstract: | 6-Dimethylaminopurine (6-DMAP) and cycloheximide have recently been used for successful production of cloned mammals. We investigated whether 6-DMAP or cycloheximide are mutagenic agents in the Ames test. Whereas cycloheximide showed no differences compared to the negative control in any of the tester strains, 6-DMAP was clearly mutagenic in Salmonella typhimurium strain TA1535. Here, we strongly propose that innocuous chemicals be used in the production of cloned animals. |
