Abstract:Models for interaction of gene frequencies between a parasite and its host have been treated, the genes being those which affect the resistance of the host and the possibility of the parasite to infect. It has been shown that in certain situations, one of the species may remain dimorphic while the other becomes monomorphic. In other situations, on the other hand, the gene frequencies cycle and, in the limit, both species become monomorphic, which alleles remain in the populations depending on chance. Various complications of the model do not affect the results qualitatively.
