The effect of clipping on self-thinning in Trifolium pratense
Authors:MARK WESTOBY  LEE BROWN
Abstract:The self-thinning rule describes mortality in a crowded even-aged stand as a function only of biomass accumulation. We tested this prediction by stopping biomass accumulation with clipping treatments in Trifolium pratense. Moderate levels of clipping slowed thinning mortality considerably, but did not stop it entirely.
