Pine sawfly Gilpinia albiclavata sp. nov. (Hymenoptera: Diprionidae) infesting Pinus pumila in the Japanese Alps

Abstract:Gilpinia albiclavata Hara, sp. nov. is described from Honshu, Japan. Larvae feed on needles of Pinus pumila (Pinaceae). Since 2001, severe infestations of the sawfly have been often observed in the Japanese Alps. Notes on the immature stages and the life history are presented.
