A novel leukotriene formed by transpeptidation of leukotriene E

A new leukotriene 5(S)-hydroxy-6(R)-$\text{S}$-γ-glutamylcysteine-7,9-$\text{trans}$-11,14-$\text{cis}$-eicosatetraenoic acid (leukotriene F₄) was isolated after incubating leukotriene E₄ with γ-glutamyltranspeptidase and glutathione. Leukotriene F₄ induced contractions of the isolated quinea pig ileum and was less potent in this respect than leukotriene E₄.
